Welcome to day three of our Holy Week timeline from Palm Sunday to Resurrection Sunday. Day three, Jesus goes to the Mount of Olives on Tuesday. That morning, Jesus and the disciples returned to Jerusalem. On their way, they passed a withered fig tree. Jesus spoke about the importance of faith. Now back at the temple, the religious leaders were upset with Jesus for calling himself a spiritual authority. They organized an ambush and planned to have him arrested. But Jesus dodged all their traps and pronounced harsh judgment on him. He said, Blind guides, you're like whitewashed tombs, beautiful on the outside, but filled with dead people's bones on the inside. Outwardly you look righteous, but inwardly your hearts are filled with hypocrisy. Snakes, sons of vipers, how will you escape the judgment of hell? That afternoon, Jesus left the city and went with his disciples to the Mount of Olives, which overlooks Jerusalem. There he gave the Olivet Discourse, an elaborate prophecy about the destruction of Israel and the end of the age. He spoke in parables and symbolic language about the end times, including his second coming and a final judgment. After a long day of confrontations and warnings about the future, Jesus and his disciples returned to Bethany for the night. So let's review the events of Tuesday, day three. Jesus left Jerusalem with the disciples, and he spoke to his disciples about the importance of faith. He gave the Olivet Discourse, a prophecy about the destruction of Jerusalem at the end of the age. He warned his disciples to be on guard. Many would contradict what he said. He encouraged them to endure and keep the faith. This has been day three of Holy Week. From Palm Sunday to Resurrection Sunday. He is risen. Risen indeed.
