Welcome to day four of our Holy Week timeline. From Palm Sunday to Resurrection Sunday. Day four, Holy Wednesday. Now the major event of Holy Wednesday is Judas' decision to betray Jesus. Although the betrayal doesn't take place for another day, just knowing it's coming colors our reading of the Last Supper story, which we'll cover tomorrow. But here's the short but critical scene from Wednesday of Holy Week. Judas agrees to betray Jesus. It's found in Matthew 26, verses 14 through 16. Then one of the twelve disciples, the one named Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests and asked, What will you give me if I betray Jesus? They counted out thirty silver coins and gave them to him. From then on, Judas was looking for a chance to hand Jesus over to them. The Bible doesn't say what Jesus did on Wednesday of Holy Week. Some say after two exhausting days in Jerusalem, he and the disciples spent the day resting in Bethany, preparing for the Passover. But just a short time earlier, Jesus revealed to the world that he had the power over death by raising Lazarus from the dead. And after witnessing such a miracle, many believed that Jesus was who he claimed to be. And they put their faith in him. This week we also saw Mary lovingly anointed Jesus' feet with expensive perfume. A controversial act for those who saw it, indignant, asking why the oil wasn't sold and the money put to better use. But Jesus said, leave her alone. This is the best thing she could have done with it. So let's review Holy Wednesday. Jesus was in Bethany with the disciples, where Mary caused a stir and anointed him with costly perfume. Judas conspired with a legislative and judicial body of Israel called the Sanhedrin to betray Jesus. Jesus anointing with perfume, and Judas conspiring with a Sanhedrin is found in Matthew 26. And Satan entering Judas and discussing the betrayal is found in Luke 22. On day four of Holy Week, from Palm Sunday to Resurrection Sunday, he is risen. Risen indeed.
