Welcome to day six of our Holy Week timeline, from Palm Sunday to Resurrection Sunday. Day six, the trial and crucifixion. Good Friday, the most difficult day of Holy Week. Christ's journey turning treacherous, extremely painful, the final hours leading up to his death. Judas, who betrayed Jesus, was overcome with remorse and he hanged himself early that morning. Meanwhile, before 9 a.m., Jesus endured shame, false accusations, condemnation, mockery, beatings, abandonment. And after multiple unlawful trials, he was sentenced to death by crucifixion, one of the most disgraceful and horrible methods of capital punishment. Before Christ was led away, soldiers tormented him, spit on him, mocked him, pierced him with a crown of thorns. And Jesus carried his own cross to Calvary and again was mocked, insulted. Soldiers nailed him by the hands and feet to a wooden cross. And from the cross, Jesus spoke seven final statements. His first, Father, forgive them. They don't know what they're doing. And his last, Father, into your hands I commit my spirit. Then about 3 p.m., he breathed his last and he died. At six o'clock, Nicodemus and Joseph of Arimathea took Jesus' body down from the cross and laid it in a tomb. Now, upon review, the Jewish religious leaders condemned Jesus for claiming to be the Son of God. Pontius Pilate, a Roman leader, sentenced Jesus to crucifixion, and Jesus was beaten and forced to carry a wooden cross through the streets. He was nailed to the cross by wrists and feet, and he died on the cross. The events of Good Friday, all recorded in all four Gospels. This has been day six of Holy Week. From Palm Sunday to Resurrection Sunday. He is risen. Risen indeed.
