Welcome to day eight of our Holy Week timeline from Palm Sunday to Resurrection Sunday. Day eight, Easter Sunday. On Resurrection Sunday or Easter, we've reached the culmination of Holy Week. The resurrection of Jesus, the most important event in the Christian faith. The very foundation of all Christian doctrine hangs on the truth of this event. Early Sunday morning, several women, Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Salome, Mary, Mother of James, went to the tomb and discovered that a large stone covering the entrance had been rolled away, and an angel announced, Don't be afraid. I know you're looking for Jesus who was crucified. He's risen from the dead, just like he said. On the day of his resurrection, Jesus made at least five appearances. Mark's gospel said the first to see him was Mary Magdalene. Jesus also appeared to Peter, to the two disciples on the road to Emmaus, and later to all the disciples except Thomas, while they were gathered in prayer. The eyewitness accounts of the Gospels provide what we believe to be undeniable evidence that the resurrection of Jesus really did happen. And two millennia after his death, Jesus' followers still flocked to Jerusalem to see the empty tomb. And I'm one of them, and it is indescribable. So on Resurrection Sunday, Jesus rose from the dead and appeared with the disciples and the others. He met with the two Marys after they left the tomb, and he comforted them and he commissioned them. Sundays, astonishing events are recorded in all four Gospels. This has been day eight of Holy Week. From Palm Sunday to Resurrection Sunday. Happy Easter. He is risen. Risen indeed.
