Why Comparison Might Be Killing Your Joy (and How to Stop It)

Spiritually Centered - Rev. Sharon and Rick Loe Season 1 Episode 3

Why Comparison Might Be Killing Your Joy (and How to Stop It)

Ever find yourself scrolling through someone else’s “perfect life” and suddenly doubting your own? Or wondering why your spiritual path feels harder than everyone else’s?

In this episode, Rev. Sharon Renae gets real about the trap of comparison and the subtle ways it steals your joy, drains your energy, and disconnects you from your divine truth. Through powerful storytelling and deep spiritual insight, she unpacks:

  • The difference between contrast (good!) and comparison (not so good)
  • How ego loves to keep us stuck in “not good enough”
  • Why comparison is a spiritual distraction
  • The truth about grace—and why you can’t earn it with spiritual gold stars
  • How to recognize when it’s time to clean out your spiritual closet (and maybe your actual one, too)

If you’ve been measuring your worth against others, feeling like you’re falling behind, or doubting your path—you’re not alone, and you’re not broken. This one’s for you.

Why Comparison Might Be Killing Your Joy (and How to Stop It)

By Rev. Sharon Renae | Spiritually Centered Podcast

What if the biggest block on your spiritual path isn’t your job, your past, or even your doubts—but comparison?

In this episode, I explore two powerful forces: contrast and comparison. One helps us grow. The other slowly eats away at our peace, self-worth, and spiritual connection.

✨ Contrast: The Divine Catalyst

Contrast is the universe’s way of whispering, “Hey, you want more than this.” It’s those moments of discomfort or dissatisfaction that reveal what we do want—whether that’s healing, joy, love, or peace. Contrast is a divine tool. It helps us recognize where we are and where we’re meant to go.

😬 Comparison: The Joy Thief

Comparison, on the other hand, is not helpful. It disconnects us from our truth. Whether we’re comparing ourselves to others, to who we think we “should” be, or to some impossible standard—we lose touch with our divine essence. It’s ego-driven, toxic, and keeps us stuck in shame, doubt, and fear.

I share personal stories of when I let comparison rule my ministry and even my health. At one point, I was so caught up in trying to "earn" grace, I lost sight of my own spiritual intuition and joy. Spoiler alert: grace isn’t something you earn. You already have it.

💡 What to Do Instead

This episode encourages you to:

  • Notice contrast, but don’t get stuck there
  • Stop keeping score based on other people’s lives
  • Clear out the spiritual (and literal) clutter
  • Choose joy—even when it’s unfamiliar
  • Trust your inner wisdom more than outside validation

We are not here to win the comparison game. We are here to grow, love, and live joyfully. Your divine potential is already within you—you just have to stop measuring it by someone else’s ruler.

So, what do you choose today? Joy? Peace? Love? Permission granted.
