Want to ...
Claire Darr (00:01)
Hi there, welcome back to the Yes and podcast. I'm excited today to talk about something that kind of, I wish someone had talked to me about years ago. So let's have a little heart to heart. This is something that's been coming up a lot in conversations with friends I've had, clients.
And it's something that I know a lot of many high performing, high achieving, high capacity, doing it all type A people avoid. And that's asking for help.
and better yet, investing in yourself and in the support to ask for help.
Here's the truth. You're not meant to do this alone. You're not meant to do this life alone, this business, this leadership, all of the things you have on your plate. You're not meant to do it alone. And yet many of us feel like we have to struggle through. Many of us have found ourselves in careers, in jobs where asking for help seems like the worst thing.
in the world. Seems like the very thing you would be penalized for or questioned for, the very thing that people might ⁓ question your ability, your capacity. So you just don't want to show that. And I get it. I have been there. I worked for many, many years as a corporate attorney and I felt that. I felt like if I didn't know the answer, ⁓
I couldn't ask for help. had to go figure it out myself. I didn't know if I asked for help, if it would come back to bite me often. And so I learned how to just muddle on through doing it all by myself, doing it all alone. And I did well, right? And most of you out there who are doing this, you're doing a good job of it. You really are.
⁓
But it doesn't have to happen alone. I'm proof, and I know many other people in similar situations that are proof that when you ask for help, when you seek out community, when you seek out someone who can support you and be a resource to you, you can do even better. So it's not a sign of weakness. And I call this kind of the illusion of I've got this. ⁓
You know, let's be honest, if you're anything like me or like most professionals I work with, you are really good at holding it all together. You're typically the one people depend on and you figured it out and you've powered through and you've built the life and on paper it looks amazing. And yet, secretly in your head, behind closed doors, you find yourself saying, you why am I so tired?
Why do I feel so disconnected from this life that I've wondered, that I built? ⁓ You find yourself feeling uncertain about what's next. Like I said, I spent so many years in a high level, high pressure career and I did wear my success like an armor. All the while I was quietly burning out and feeling...
this growing sense of restlessness, like there had to be something more. Was this it? Was this what I'd worked for? I didn't even know what I needed at the time, but I knew I couldn't keep going the way I was. And so I had a wake up call in talking to a coach and it happened serendipitously. ⁓
by chance, ⁓ a very, very, very dear friend of mine, I use the word dear, not old. We've been friends a long time. ⁓ She became a coach and ⁓ she started talking to me about what she did. And I thought, you know what? I should just continue the conversation. And I remember the first time I said yes,
to her coaching me and me paying for it, right? It felt indulgent at first and it felt unnecessary. I mean, I should have been able to figure it out on my own and I'd already done so well. Why don't I just use the tools that have worked for me over my entire career to continue that? And is this really gonna be worthwhile?
Well, I couldn't figure it out on my own. And that one decision changed the entire trajectory of my life and my career. Working with her gave me space to hear myself again, to remember myself, to remember who I was. It helped me see where I was actually playing small.
Even though I had this incredibly successful career and life to the outside world, I was playing small, not just in my work, but in my life. And I let it get to that point. having her as my coach and talking to her regularly, it also reminded me that having support isn't a weakness, it's actually wisdom, it's smart.
It's smart to ask other people. It's smart to ask those who have a knowledge beyond what you know right now. It's smart to have people ask you questions. And so since then, that was seven years ago now, I've invested in coaches in every season of growth, personally and professionally. I've invested in coaches for very different reasons.
I've invested in coaching programs, I've invested in masterminds, and I've gotten something at each stage out of every single one of them. I've come back multiple times to my original coach, who probably will be with me forever now. Well, she has to be because she's one of my dearest friends, but ⁓ with me professionally forever now, because she does make me better at what I do, and I'm a coach.
You know, heard this, the coaches need the coach too. We do. I've learned the power of having someone in your corner who sees the real you, like the full you, even when you've forgotten how to see yourself. That's what my coach does for me. That's what I do for others. ⁓ You know, kind of hold up the mirror and remind you of who you are and what you're capable of.
what you're put here to do and be the one to ask the good questions. Have you thinking, maybe make you a little uncomfortable. I think I do make my clients uncomfortable sometimes in a good way. I know my coach makes me uncomfortable sometimes. Amazing growth happens on the other side of you getting a little uncomfortable. Amazing, amazing things. I can always point to the growth after that period of me.
feeling a little out of my comfort zone. Always point to the growth.
I said since I hired my first coach seven years ago now, the trajectory of my life and career have completely changed. I've seen just such quantum, huge growth in myself personally and professionally, in my relationships, in my health, in my finances, in my happiness, in everything that if I had left...
myself to do it alone the way I'd always done it? Would my life be good right now? I'm sure it would be. It always had been. But would I have had those leaps?
that I've had, I don't know how I could have, because I didn't know the things I know now. I didn't have that person to talk to all those years ago. So.
knowing the benefit of this, ⁓ you know, a few years after I invested in my coach, I decided to start coaching others. I've done it. ⁓ I've done it informally throughout my career, off and on, you know, kind of imparting ⁓ guidance, teachings, things that worked for me. And I was able to take all of the things I'd learned on a
really windy road and deploy them to help others have a transformation, have clarity, really seek out fulfillment and purpose and ⁓ give them tools and techniques and practices and exercises, things that they take with them into every facet of their life and for the rest of their life. And hopefully they continue to grow and
and see their lives shift in huge ways. ⁓ So it's really exciting to get to work with people. And ⁓ one of the things I created very recently actually is what I'm calling a VIP day. ⁓ It's because not everyone is ready or needs a full coaching program where they spend, you know, weeks and months working with me. Sometimes,
what you need right now is what I call a sacred pause, know, a reset, some dedicated time to really look at what it is you want, start remembering, start that process. And that's actually how I got started with my coach. We spent some intensive time together and then I went away and did some work and then didn't do some work and then realized that I wanted more and started working with her.
on a monthly basis, but this intensive time is dedicated time to get quiet, to tune in, realign what is currently your outer success with your inner truth. Who you are, what you want to feel, who you want to show up as, how you want the world to be for you.
And so this VIP experience is for the person who's doing great.
but feels like you're quietly drifting. And you're showing up, you're getting it done, but you're wondering, where did I go? What happened to my joy, my energy, or my clarity? I'm just not feeling it. ⁓ In the half day we spent together, we'll create some space.
for you to reconnect with what matters most. I love to spend time reflecting, reimagining and setting a course for what feels aligned to you, what feels importantly sustainable to you. We want sustainable habits, we want a sustainable, consistent life and we want it to be full of purpose.
And I've watched people walk out of this time we spend together with a renewed energy, a lightness, a brightness that can't be faked. And it's not because I have all the answers or I give them answers or I get them something. None of that. It's because I often ask the right question or I help them remember what they already had in them.
because that's something I've known from years and years of working with people. You have it within you. You do. Sometimes you just need someone to remind you or point it out or ask the right question. And that's what I love to do for people. So if you're listening and you're thinking this sounds like me ⁓ or if you're tired of powering through,
pushing through, hustling through, trying to get through. ⁓ And you really want and you have a desire to feel alive and aligned again and remember how that feels. ⁓ Just connect with me. Schedule a connect call with me. There's no commitment. We get to explore, we get to chat. I get to learn a little bit about you. You get to learn a little bit about me.
We'll talk about where you are and what you need and see if us working together and spending more dedicated time together could be the reset you've been longing for. If now's not the right time, that's okay. My hope is that if you take one thing away from what I've said today, it's that you don't have to figure it all out alone.
It doesn't all have to be on you. You were never meant to do this alone.
and that you can always reach out to others for support, for resources, and you will be better for it. If you feel aligned and you have it in your heart that I'm that person, amazing, I would love nothing more. If you know of other people that you know could help you, seek them out, but don't do it alone. Don't do it alone.
best decision I ever made was pulling people into my world, asking for help, listening and letting others be part of my world. When I did that, my world expanded and has continued expanding and I am so much better for it. I'm not weaker. I am so much better and stronger for it. So I hope this has inspired you to go ask someone for help.
And I just want to thank you for being here. You're doing great work. You're trusting in yourself. ⁓ Continue to trust in yourself. And if you want more, you want more out of life, you want more success, you want more life. That's okay. That's what this is about. It's about saying, yes, and I want more.
If what I said today resonated with you, please share it or follow me, send it to someone who might need to hear it. If someone might've come to mind as I was talking and you thought, this could help that person, please do, please send it. And if you're ready to take the next step, even if it's just exploring, whether we should spend time together, I'll put a link to schedule a call with me in the notes and...
Until the next time we talk, just say yes to what's next. And don't forget that your fullest, most fulfilled, purpose-driven life is available to you always. You can get started anytime you want. I hope you have a great day.
