Shorty Drew
Shorty Drew brings his unstoppable energy to The Family Business Podcast, sharing the journey behind his rising "Celebrity Mode" movement that's capturing attention across Chicago and beyond.
From his studio in Chicago, Drew reveals the origins of terms like "Celebrity Mode" and "Meet the Blicks," showcasing his natural talent for creating infectious phrases that resonate with audiences. "I created a lot of words," he explains, demonstrating the wordplay versatility that makes his music distinctive and memorable.
What truly sets Drew apart is his grassroots approach to building a fanbase. Rather than waiting for industry recognition, he takes his music directly to the streets, performing impromptu shows everywhere from downtown Chicago to Outback Steakhouse. This direct connection with listeners builds what he calls "real love" – a genuine connection he values more than traditional fame. "I don't even call them fans, I call them lovers," Drew shares, highlighting his appreciation for authentic support.
The conversation reveals a major announcement: Celebrity Mode Volume 2 drops May 13th, featuring collaborations with 600 Breezy and other artists. Unlike his previous project focused on street narratives, this new release aims to deliver celebratory anthems that showcase his versatility as an artist. "I'm talking that money shit, shit that people can have fun to," Drew explains, demonstrating his evolution while staying true to his roots.
Perhaps most powerful is Drew's message to aspiring artists navigating Chicago's challenging landscape. Drawing from wisdom passed down by his grandmother, he emphasizes persistence through inevitable setbacks: "An ill, and another ill, and another ill come with your win." His philosophy—"No risk, no reward" and "You can't wear your crown with your head down"—encapsulates the mindset driving his unstoppable rise. Download Celebrity Mode Volume 2 on all streaming platforms May 13th and witness a star in the making.

Shorty Drew:How you feeling shorty, you know I'm feeling great.
DJ Trouble Kidd:We done had some conversation before the mics was on, you feel me. But now that the mic's on, bro, we definitely want to chop it up with you. You know what I'm saying. You know it's dope how me and you got introduced to each other. You feel me. You know my dad, we not gonna give the whole back story. We just gonna say, man, my dad Pulled me to the side and was like hey, man, I got somebody I want you to meet. And my dad know how I am, like I don't like me, niggas.
Marquette WZRD:Every time I got somebody Feeding me.
DJ Trouble Kidd:I be like I go on the whole tinge and I be like, hey, man, look. But what was dope about it was man, was was finally sent down to me, bro, man, and and like we immediately went to work like it was. I think like our second encounter was just immediately, just us working on the skit together, that that everybody went on to see through our, you know, our brother, ttg louie, who he had on the show earlier, yeah, but, um, what was dope now is that, you know, when I tapped in with Bro, you know he was fully, fully in celebrity mode, celebrity mode.
Marquette WZRD:You dig what I'm saying.
DJ Trouble Kidd:And now, matter of fact, we're going to get there. We're going to get there, let's do it. We're going to get there, but talk to us, man. What's been going on in your world, man, what's been going on in your career, like, talk to us.
Shorty Drew:Man, I've been leveling up. I've been making hits back to back. I dropped Meet the Blicks came with Celebrity Mode Volume 1. I got Celebrity Mode Volume 2 coming May 13th. Make sure everybody be out to get that, uh-oh. I've been slowly going, but now I'm putting it in their face. They deserve it in their face. They deserve it in their face. So I'm going to be dropping heat back to back to back to back Videos back to back to back to back. I got epic records on me. I got a couple of labels trying to sign me. So I'm really focused right now. I put all the bullshit to the side and I stay focused. Right now I'm in my focus zone. I can't be stopped when I get in mode. I'm in mode and it's hard to get me out that mode.
DJ Trouble Kidd:And that's and that's the best feeling in the world. And you gotta know, bro, it's dope to see it.
Marquette WZRD:Yes, you feel?
DJ Trouble Kidd:what I'm saying, bro. Like to walk in, you know to walk in here, walk in studio sessions, and I see people just sitting down like just doing nothing just chilling.
Shorty Drew:I immediately want to leave bro uh, I'll be making sure I drop four fast homes. I'll be hey.
DJ Trouble Kidd:I'll be, because you know something, because the way I be looking, bro, I be like this is a working space. So to walk in here and to see that immediately you feel me, I'm like, nah, bro, we in the right space, the right, we definitely in the right space. So let me ask you this, right, yes?
Shorty Drew:We talking. You know, you just dropped a bomb on us you know what I mean.
Marquette WZRD:Celebrity mode 2 dropping may 13th.
DJ Trouble Kidd:Yes, celebrity mode acting bad, volume 2. Let me ask you this. Let me ask you this let's, let's backtrack. Let's backtrack for just a moment, right, because in order to have a celebrity mode 2, you gotta have a celebrity mode 1, right, yes, so what? What inspired the whole celebrity mode movement?
Shorty Drew:oh man, I like acting bad, you know. And celebrity mode, you know I had came up with that like five years ago. I got everybody saying celebrity mode. I got people saying acting bad. A lot of artists be saying act bad like diddy I. I can sue them for that, but that's motivation to me. So you know, I created a lot of words. I got that celebrity mode acting bad for me. Just wherever I'm at, I record my music Like hey, hold the phone video. This. I play my song everywhere, anywhere, and people will like it. Wherever I'm at, I mainly be downtown doing it. So they'll be man, man, that's nice. They'll be looking at me smiling. So you feel me taking pictures of me and stuff. So that's what I named it Celebrity Mode, act the Bad. So ever since then I've been Celebrity Mode Act the Bad, oh you, acting bad, oh you on Celebrity Mode. Everybody liked that.
DJ Trouble Kidd:So you just took it and ran with it.
Shorty Drew:I ran with it I ran with it. I ran with that. I ain't taking it away. I need that. That's mine. I love that.
Marquette WZRD:What does it feel like when you got out there and just communing with the people and connecting with them? What did that feel like? The first time you got out there to do that, I felt loved.
Shorty Drew:It's hard to get love I'm talking about. I get real love for doing things that I've been doing, like what shooting videos outside in public, wherever I'm at I'm talking about I get the most love than I get from my inner inner, inner inner people that I be around. So I'm like, okay, I'm, I'm going to do this for me and I'm going to do this for I. Don't even call them fans, I call them lovers. I don't bro them because it's hard to find love. That's real. They show so much love when I do things like that so I stay doing it. I don't care where I'm at. If the cameraman we shooting right here, people will pull up, pull a camera out, flick. You know, make me feel special, even though I've been special, but you know you're making me feel more special. I'm gonna do this for y'all even harder.
DJ Trouble Kidd:Go even harder so let me ask you this right, you say you just tell them to put what don't make the camera me if I ain't on that there, then we gonna make the camera If the camera ain't on. I ain't on, it is.
Shorty Drew:I'm talking about that camera on. I'm gonna cause a show. I'm gonna do what I'm good at. I'm good at performing. I'll perform anywhere, anywhere, anywhere, anywhere.
DJ Trouble Kidd:Let me ask you this what was the most Out the ordinary performance? Anywhere, anywhere, anywhere, anywhere. Let me ask you this what was the most out the ordinary performance?
Shorty Drew:spot that you've done so far and Outback Steakhouse.
DJ Trouble Kidd:He just got me right there Outback Steakhouse.
Shorty Drew:Turn up in the Outback. Let's go Outback.
Shorty Drew:Steakhouse, let's go, I'm in there recording they playing my song. I'm recording right there eating, throwing money on the table, letting them know what's really they. Let me roll my woods, sip my drink. You know, I ain't gonna lie. I was on a plane. I had a told a 70 year old. She was like 70. She was like I was like, yeah, I make music. She was sitting on the side of me. I had to sing for her. She made me sing happy birthday for her granddaughter. She ain't know none of my music or none of that, but she liked what I had going on, so I had sung happy birthday for her in my own way. That's crazy.
DJ Trouble Kidd:So let me ask you this, right how do you maintain the glow that you have and when I say that, I mean just this ray of positive energy in the midst of what some might say is considered like a fucked up city at times? Right, like, how do you maintain just this glow that you have about you, this positive aura and the madness?
Shorty Drew:I was born with it, Like it's in me, not on me. I eat, sleep, dream, I rap, I take my mind off things. I take my mind off a lot like making music. I would have been a poet, if anything. That's how raw I am at music. I can make anything happen. I wake up, I be thinking about rap and then they give me that energy. So my energy is crazy. Once you meet me, I got a devastated crazy energy. That's my energy that you ain't even know I was gonna have when you first Seen me. That's a fact.
DJ Trouble Kidd:That's a fact.
Shorty Drew:I'm talking about. You don't know how I'm coming. You can be like this kid Right here. He got a lot of. I see he gonna be something. He got a vibe in him that I never seen before. Big facts, that's facts.
DJ Trouble Kidd:And I confess for this, like y'all gotta understand bro, me and bro would see each other Like smack day in the middle of the night and bro would be like let's go to the strip club I'm talking about right now. Right now we gone Right now.
Marquette WZRD:Right now. I'm talking about what?
Shorty Drew:we doing? I love action, anything, that ting.
DJ Trouble Kidd:I'ma roll with it. Hey man, look, i'ma make it at me. Ready to go, bro, but I'ma dig it.
Shorty Drew:I be ready to go, bro, but I'ma make you know I'ma you stand with me, hey Trevor, where you going. Dj Trevor, let's do it and we'll pull up. And I'm pulling right up.
DJ Trouble Kidd:Crew it all, I'm pulling right up hey every time, man, and and the thing about it is Is that that energy is necessary, bro? Because the thing about Like I feel like these days it's so easy to get caught up in the the fickle and the thin shit yes, you know what I'm saying and it's not, and it's not my place to judge it, it's not my place to criticize it, but what I will say is that the lollipop shit make it a lot harder for the ones who really out here trying to show love, and you know what I'm saying.
Shorty Drew:It just makes it harder for them because it's like now y'all just in a way right, but I'd be adapted to my environment so I'd be in the mix but out the mix, but still in the mix. For sure I know how to beat around them that part. I know how to beat around them. If you ain't got no haters, you ain't popping. You need some haters, that part and let's so, let's talk.
DJ Trouble Kidd:Let's talk about that for a minute. What has that journey been like? Navigating, growing as Shorty Drew In the midst of Chicago?
Shorty Drew:Man, I know it's competition. You gotta take it to another level. Every time you take it, you can't come back the same. You gotta come better. And I always came back better. I made sure that Positive vibes Lead you to the right way. So you gotta stay positive and negative. You gotta kick it to the side. Always came back better.
Shorty Drew:I make sure that positive vibes lead you to the right way. So you got to stay positive and negative. You got to kick it to the side. Because as long as you got negative and you're going to lower yourself to the negativity as long as you stay positive, you're going to be positive with the positive verse, you know. So I make sure I stay positive. Level myself on a higher level than others of level myself on a higher level than others. Right, you can be a lollipop, you can be a sucker. I'm a blicker. You know I'm going to take this to another level, to things that you ain't even know I can do. Now you want to be me? Talk your shit, you do that shit Now you want to be me Now.
Shorty Drew:you want what I got Now you paying attention. You see this shit. You like this nigga. He ain't stopped yet. All gas, no brakes. I wish I would pull over. I wish I would.
DJ Trouble Kidd:So let me ask you, this man From within celebrity mode, one we got meet the blicks, meet the blicks.
Shorty Drew:I invented that, me and my neighborhood where I'm from. We invented that. Meet the blicks, meet the blicks. I invented that, me and my neighborhood when I'm from. We invented that. Meet the blicks and that shit.
DJ Trouble Kidd:Man, look, bro, put me on to his music, right Nigga. I wanna say like 15 minutes later I was putting up Bumping this shit, right? Well, I'm talking about Slamming it too, like not even trying.
Shorty Drew:Like ignorantly you feel me, and so the spank he made that beat.
DJ Trouble Kidd:So I got to ask you this man Like what can we anticipate on Celebrity Mode 2? And who can we anticipate on Celebrity Mode 2?
Shorty Drew:I got 600 Breezy on that. Chino the G, smoke the Dunn, no Limit, smoke the Dunn. And my right-hand man, bucky Bucky, pmg 2,800. He not even a. And my right hand man, bucky Bucky, pmg 2800. He not even a rapper, but I made him rap. And Woo and Woo, my boy, woo the G, he on his way right now as we speaking. Woo, I'm slapping five people on the mixtape, but right after that I'm coming with another one Meet the Blicks Part 2. The mixtape, because I dropped Part 1. So I'm coming with Meet the Blicks Part 2. After I come out with Slavery Moe, I can value it too. So you're just going back to back. I got to Back to back. I got to make them. I'm going to make them listen.
Marquette WZRD:That's it. What was the inspiration for Meet the Blicks? Oh man. Because, it just sounds like there's a story behind it. Yes, yes, you know what that means, my homie.
Shorty Drew:He died. His name Blick, so people be talking. I'm talking about Blick, a gun, the whole time. I'm talking about a person, so I be like, alright, I came out. I'm like alright, fuck it. That's how I'ma do that. Meet the Blicks. It just came upon. I'm raw at words.
Marquette WZRD:A double entendre.
Shorty Drew:Yeah, I'm raw at that. I'm talking about. I come out, I say some shit. You you ain't even know. I said you be like what the fuck? But you understand it. I'm talking about. I'm word versatile, like a motherfucker, joe, I'm word for word. I say some shit that the fuck you understand. But you ain't understand it. Though. You like what the fuck? This nigga just say.
Marquette WZRD:You got to go back and listen to that shit again.
Shorty Drew:Go back and listen to that again, even in your head. If I'm talking to you, I'll be. Yeah, how you blicking, what you on, it's a blick. Then we in celebrity mode tonight Get with me. We gonna act bad. That's my own form Fashion of wording.
DJ Trouble Kidd:He's not, you ain't.
Shorty Drew:You gonna be like what the fuck? I know we going out, I know we finna act bad.
DJ Trouble Kidd:Whatever I like that I put my own words together.
Shorty Drew:Yeah, hell, yeah. Yeah, I put my own words together, so I got my own language for everything, my own lingo, hey that's the way. Yes, sir, hell yeah.
DJ Trouble Kidd:Yeah, 35. So let me ask you this right? You just named some of the features.
Shorty Drew:You just named some of the features. Yeah, I got my dog, Jono the G, right here I'm going to do some. He make beats. I'm talking about he hot on the instrumentals man, that's the word. My brother, how you feeling, I got him, I got him. I got him. You on L right now.
DJ Trouble Kidd:That's the word, brother you got something you want to say to the people Go ahead, man, yeah, come on, come on, I'm 600. You know I'm 59. Legend Legend. You already know who it is. Talk your shit. Talk your shit, blake. Talk your shit. Yes sir, yes sir. But let me ask you this man what has been different about creating Celebrity Mode 2 versus any other project you've done so?
Shorty Drew:far, meet the Blakes. I was doing gun violence because people like gun violence, celebrity Mode, acting bad. I'm talking that money, shit, shit that people can have fun to. I ain't going to say put the guns down, but I'm going to turn it up a notch. I'm going to do some celebrity music. Here you dance to this. Here you shake your ass to this, you bop to this. Here you can make it rain to this. Some fly shit, some fly shit, fuck fly. I been flew Flew. I'm talking about some legendary Shit. We gonna take it to another level. Everybody be wanting a gun, this gun, that. So if you but meet the blicks part too, yes, I'm back, I'm back. I'm back promoting the violence, but right now I'm cooling on the violence. I want to turn y'all up a notch. I got to turn the Roll up. I got to make them understand that it's Not about guns and it's about Money, it's about bitches, it's about having fun. You gotta see this shit there's that versatility again, man you gotta see it.
Shorty Drew:You gotta see it. A lot of people ain't see it to believe it, and I've seen it a lot, so I believe in a lot I'm talking about. I can make it happen. If I can make it happen, I'm making it happen that part they forgot the rule the key is to make it out, not die here. I bet you I'll make it out, you are gonna make it out.
Shorty Drew:That's in my head, every that's in my head Every day. People don't even know I pray. A lot of people don't even pray. You look at me. You're like you don't pray, you don't man what I'm, god son, but the devil on me, what ho got several on me Like for real man, like it's destined for me. I won't, I'm not giving up. I'm talking about the higher the risk, the higher the reward. I'm going to take it though. I'm going to take it though.
Marquette WZRD:Other than Meet the Blicks. Is there anything else that you want to speak on that you got going right now, or like something that's like coming?
Shorty Drew:Macho flexing. Macho flexing, yes, it's like you know I done broke my arm, how hard I been flexing, you know. So I came out With macho flexing. They gonna be like what's that? Macho flexing is when you flex harder Than the next person. Think he flexing. You said thinking you flexing. They think they flexing, but you flexing harder Than them. You flexing harder than a person thinking that he flexing, trying to be more macho. We fuck the same bitches. We getting the same much money, probably, but we ain't doing the same shit. This might look the same, but I know we live a different life, expensive life. They don't even know what's an expensive night. I need to pour a whole eight of pop, this little expensive Sprite. You know what I mean? Money. Make her come by my smell. Make her spend a night. I'm raw at what I do. Hey, talk to him. Talk to him.
Marquette WZRD:Yeah, yeah. Real time right, yeah, real time.
DJ Trouble Kidd:Yeah, thanks, and that's what this is all about. You know, this podcast and this platform is about spreading love and shining a light on those that really have a passion, not only for this art, but also just for the culture in which they are navigating within, and that's something that is that doesn't have to be said. Hey, motive, I want that beat.
Shorty Drew:Say that beat Motive I want that beat.
DJ Trouble Kidd:That don't even got to be.
Shorty Drew:Download that beat. I'm jumping on that next. That don't even hey, we working. We working, I'm in the stool and we live right now, man. Shout out to my people Y'all, make sure y'all go subscribe, make sure y'all get on this podcast man.

Shorty Drew:Oh, house of Knox, my dog motive House of Knox studio sessions.
DJ Trouble Kidd:We gotta give him a shout out Gotta, give him a shout out.
Shorty Drew:Without him, there's no me.
DJ Trouble Kidd:I Shout out that's only right. Without him there's no me. But I definitely got to. You know, the purpose of this platform is to be able to shine a light, you know, on a light. In a lot of ways you feel me and I say that the light on us already. I already know it was on us, but I got to put my light, you know, I got to put my people on to y'all. You see what I'm saying.
Shorty Drew:Yes, sir, because that's just how that works.
DJ Trouble Kidd:It's one of them things where it's like nah, I want to make sure me and Wizard could. Hey, man, we fuck with them too. Go make sure y'all go check them out.
Shorty Drew:You see what I'm saying.
DJ Trouble Kidd:The thing is, because that part is also important in this shit. You see what I'm saying. Yes, that's the main thing. As well as having the creative energy Communicating, you got to be able to spread the wealth and be able to look over to your mans and say hey, man, fam over there, cole is here, you see what I'm saying.
Marquette WZRD:Go fuck with them.
DJ Trouble Kidd:Sis over there, Cole.
Shorty Drew:And it ain't what you know, it's who you know. That part, somehow. It's what you know, not who you know. No, it's who you know, not what you know, do we?
DJ Trouble Kidd:get any of that? Do we get any of that talk on Celebrity Mode at all? Come on man. Yes, you know I got to. Hey, you know I got to. Yes, you know what I'm saying. Because we Celebrity Mode too. Ceezy, you feel me?
Shorty Drew:Man look yeah, you know it See he's just giving them out to him.
Marquette WZRD:Yes, he's giving y'all free game right now bro, hey hold on, look, and this coast.
DJ Trouble Kidd:Hey man, look this coast. Don't say another Cause they gotta go get celebrity mode too Cause, by the time, they hit us. Yes, by the time they hit us Right, by the time y'all hit us, man, celebrity mode 2 gonna be out already May 13th.

Shorty Drew:Apple Music. They still out here bootlegging man iTunes.
DJ Trouble Kidd:YouTube SoundCloud.
Shorty Drew:It's across the world.
DJ Trouble Kidd:Y'all get that, get that celebrity mode too, man, and I want to ask you this before we get out of here you know what I'm saying, because we do know you're in the midst of recording.
Marquette WZRD:You're back and forth right now Right.
DJ Trouble Kidd:Yeah, what is something that you would tell a younger person that's trying to do what you do in the environment that you've come from?
Shorty Drew:Don't never give up. You can be anything. You can be anything. My grandma told me that. May she rest in peace, and it's been stuck to me in my head forever. You can be anything you want to in life. Don't never give up. It's going to hurt. It's going to hurt. It's going to take some ills, but an ill, and another ill and another ill come with your win. People that they lost it hurt them too much. You're going to lose. Everybody ain't going to make it. You got to do it for them. So my advice to y'all is you can be whatever you want to be. Just don't give up. It ain't going to happen overnight and it probably ain't going to happen this year, but you put the right work in, you're to the top. To the top you're going.
Shorty Drew:I witness people around me do it, real celebrities, people I looked up to. Now I'm on the side of them. You know, I didn't know I could get around a lot of people, but I was around them. Drake, a lot of motherfuckers. I just didn't give them a chance To let them hear my music. They heard some of it through 600 Breezy, but they ain't hear the real me. They gotta hear the real me. So to everybody who thinking you can't, you can be anything you want. All you got to do is put your mind to it. These facts, don't give up.
DJ Trouble Kidd:That part that part For real. What is it you got any questions before we get out of here anymore?
Marquette WZRD:What would you tell? I know we already spoke on like. What would you tell someone you know I know we already spoke on. What would you tell someone, a young'un that's probably on the same path that you are, but what would you tell yourself specifically, like a younger version of yourself, man, from everything that you've learned on this path.
Shorty Drew:You came too far to miss it. Why stop now? You came too far to miss it. One thing I don't do is watch others. Why stop now? You came too far to miss it, like you ain't got to. One thing I don't do is watch others. I do it my own way. I probably learned, I probably looked at it one time. But I'm going to switch the flow up different. It's going to be way different. I got a different type of taste, expensive too at that. So like to myself I be boy pride, dignity, success. Everything can happen. Focus, put your head on, don't put your head down. A lot of things happen. Keep your head up.
DJ Trouble Kidd:It's coming Just like Celebrity Mode 2. Y'all know what's going on DJ, trouble, kid, marquette, wizard.

Shorty Drew:Yes, sir, they finna.
DJ Trouble Kidd:Hear it right now, before we get on out of here, because ain't no point of being in the studio and not taking advantage of it, right? So we about to go ahead and get that, but look y, safe all of that. You know what I'm saying? Don't let nothing. Matter of fact, we ain't even going to say nothing, right? We're going to get very specific. Don't be in your own way. Yes, if I could leave y'all with anything for this episode. Do not be in your own way. At times, it becomes very easy to you know, make excuses or to cry and complain. Hey man, look, at the end of the day, that shit don't.
Shorty Drew:Don't ever give up.
