God's Plans for You: Finding Hope in Jeremiah 29:11

Chaplain Terry Season 2025 Episode 1

Chaplain Terry Warner explores Jeremiah 29:11, revealing God's thoughts of peace and prosperity toward His people even in difficult circumstances. This message of hope contrasts sharply with the influence of modern "false prophets" who seek to undermine our trust in God's goodness.

• Examining Jeremiah's letter to the exiles in Babylon and its relevance today
• Identifying contemporary false prophets including mainstream media and social media
• Understanding God's perspective that focuses on our future, not our past failures
• Learning to use our spiritual senses (sight, hearing, smell, taste, touch) to discern God's will
• Embracing our position as co-rulers with Christ on earth
• Celebrating God's compassion, forgiveness and everlasting love through Psalm 103

I'm keeping the name TheChaplainsCorner.net but will be focusing on a completely different style of podcast moving forward. It will be more teaching-oriented to help you carry on discussions with others and explain why you are a Christian. I would appreciate hearing your opinion! You can reach me at terry@thechaplinscornernet.

Speaker 1:

Hello friends, chaplain Terry Warner here. The title of this podcast is Thoughts Toward Me. Your foundation scripture will be Jeremiah 29.11. For I know the thoughts that I think towards you, says the Lord. Thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you an expected and expectation end. That's Jeremiah 29, 11, king James Version, verse 10,. This is what the Lord says when 70 years are completed for babylon, I will come for you and fulfill my gracious promise to you to bring you back to this place, for I know the plans I have for you, declares the lord. Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future. Jeremiah 29, 10 and 11,. That's the NIV, verse 10,. For thus says the Lord when 70 years are completed for Babylon, I will visit you and keep my good promise to you, causing you to return to this place, for I know the thoughts and plans I have for you, says the Lord. Thoughts of plans for welfare and peace and not for evil, to give you a hope in your final outcome. Jeremiah 29, 10-11. That's the Amplified the above translations.

Speaker 1:

That I just read was a letter from Jeremiah to the exiles in Babylon. Jehoiachin was the king of Judah and did evil in the sights of the Lord. Hang on, the paper always wants to stick the stick. He did evil in the sights of the lord. His position a little bit, a little background. He was also referred as king jehoiachin, also referred to as jechaniah and conani. He ruled in judea for three months and 10 days second chronicles 36, 9 in 597 bc, before he was taken captive to babylon. He was 18 years old when he began to rule and did evil in the eyes of the lord. Now we're going to skip on down a little further and get out all this genealogy. As I said, jeremiah wrote this letter to the exiles advising them to be peaceful and obedient captives and promised them that they would return to their homeland after 70 years.

Speaker 1:

However, even in Babylon, the false prophets kept up their fight against Jeremiah, jeremiah 29, verse 20, through chapter 31. May I suggest the new false prophets that we fight in this day? I would say our largest and most obvious false prophet is the mainstream news media. They spew lies like candy, devise ways to discredit our hope and trust in God. They fit the basic format of being anti-God and just plain evil. John 10.10 says the thief, or in other words the devil, the evil. Satan only comes to steal and to kill and to destroy. Another false prophet is the social media. Our smartphones spew out story after story videos and stage reality.

Speaker 1:

Let's not forget our colleges and left-wing propaganda. Get our colleges and left-wing propaganda. We have colleges demonstrating and protesting historical facts and portraying actual facts as if they never happened. Science producing science producing catastrophic weather and climate events in an effort to control and create lockdowns. Organizations like the who, the world health organization, the world economic forum and basically anything that calls for a global event. We have a deep state government that is interfering with our president to block the president in any way they can, for instance, allowing low-level judges to put stop orders to the party known illegals, criminals and out of our country.

Speaker 1:

The church, for the most part, is asleep at the wheel of a reckless driving car barreling down a destructive highway, of a reckless driving car barreling down a destructive highway. The church, by their passive stance on abortion, gender confusion and hiding their evil practices being done to our children. In other words, we are losing ground in references to our godly attributes and a lot of areas. We have totally lost our position. We could go on and on in the examples of evil in our present day world. Enough. But enough doom and gloom.

Speaker 1:

Let's turn the corner and look at a few things we can do. Going back to Jeremiah 29, 11, we notice that God's thoughts and plans are for us. God doesn't look back at our past. He has cast our shortcomings and sin behind his back, throwing them into the sea of forgetfulness. He is forced, in a good way, to make plans for our future that will prosper us, give us hope and help us plan out to see our future. One of the first things we must do is learn how to not rely on our own flesh or senses. Our sight, the ability to perceive and form images, mainly through the eyes. But we have spiritual eyesight too. For, by the grace given me to every one of you, do not think of yourselves more highly than you ought, but think of yourself with sober judgment, that's, seeing with your spiritual eyes, in accordance with the measure of faith god has given you. Romans twelve three. Our eye of faith leads us down the lighted path that we walk and enlightens our steps with his word.

Speaker 1:

The hearing, the ability to perceive sounds, mainly through the ears, spiritual hearing if any one has ears to hear, let him hear. Well, they all had ears. Consider carefully what you hear. He continued with the measure you use. It will be measured to you, and even more. Whoever has will be given more. Whoever does not have even what he has will be taken from him. That's mark eleven. Four. Chapter four. Verse twenty three to twenty five From him. That's Mark 11. 4. Chapter 4. Verse 23 through 25. You may listen with your ears, but you comprehend with your heart.

Speaker 1:

Smell, in other words olfaction, is the ability to perceive odors, usually through the nose. Taste, gustation, the ability to perceive flavors, primarily through the tongue. Smell and taste work closely together. I was in a meeting one night and we had a fairly elderly bunch in the crowd and some motorcycle guys drove up and came in to listen to the service and that was fine and they were a little surprised because we welcome them, we weren't afraid of them, or I wasn't afraid of them, and one old, uh, one guy, I shouldn't say one old guy, one guy of the writers, uh, gave his heart to jesus christ and boy. But just before that happened, we had got a smell that was terrible, as that demon came out of him and put him back on the road and he received his salvation. Then, once he received his salvation, the sweetest flower fragrance filled that place and it was so sweet and so nice and so calming. That's what taste and smell, touch, the tactical sense, the ability to perceive sensations like pressure, temperature and pain.

Speaker 1:

He is a God of love, a father to God and to his children, and is planning on showing us his unsearchable riches that we have in Christ. Don't wait to go to heaven to see these riches. You can start seeing some of them here while you're here on earth, if you fellowship with Jesus. Our God is the only God that deals and operates in love. Other gods deal with us shrewdly and with vengeance, diseases, misfortunes and hostility. Our God reigns not over us, but we get to reign with him by doing this. We get to rule and reign with him. He's the head, we're the body. The body is ruling this earth, whether you like it or not. In some cases we're not doing a very good job. We need to improve. We prosper and go rich in and under his care.

Speaker 1:

Our God is supreme, omniscient, all-knowing, omnipresent, present everywhere at all the same time, omnipotent, all-powerful. That is the kind of God I serve. He loves me with an everlasting love, and so I bring this truth to an end with a short verse that says I have loved you with an everlasting love. I have drawn you with loving kindness. I will build you up again and you will be rebuilt, o virgin Israel. That's Jeremiah 31, verses 3 and 4. So lift up your head, stand on your feet and say with me Praise the Lord, o my soul, all my inmost being, praise his holy name. Praise the Lord, o my soul, and forget not all of his benefits. Who forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases. Who redeems my life from the pit and crowns me with love and compassion, who satisfies my desires with the good things, so that my youth is renewed like the eagles, the Lord works righteousness and justice for all that are oppressed. He made known his way to moses, his deeds to the people of israel.

Speaker 1:

The lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in love. He will not always accuse, nor will he harbor his anger forever. He does not treat us after our sins or repay us according to our iniquities, for as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love toward those who fear him. As far as the east is from the west, so far he has removed my transgression from me. As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him, for he knows that we are formed. He remembers that we are dust. As for man, his days are like grass. He flourishes like a flower of the field. The wind blows over it and it's gone, and his place remembers it no more. But from everlasting to everlasting, the Lord's love is with those who fear him, and his righteousness to the children's children, with those who keep his covenant and remember to obey his precepts. The lord has established his throne in heaven and his kingdom rules over all.

Speaker 1:

Praise the lord, you, his angels, you mighty ones who do his bidding, who obey his word. Praise the lord all his works, everywhere in his dominion. Praise the lord. O my soul. That's some one or three, so how much longer are you going to sit in your pew of comfort and smugness?

Speaker 1:

We have read and watched how the Jewish nation went from total victory then into sin and being cast out of their country and dispersed to the remote places of the world. We have read and seen how Jesus came into our earth as a man and as God, our Savior. We have proof of his wonderful acts of defeating the devil and redeeming us through the resurrection and making possible our redemption and giving us a new life in Christ. Our sins are forgotten, nullified and do not have the ability to hold us back or prevent us from entering into everlasting life. Think about it In essence, we have been born again, not with a corruptible seed of man, but by the incorruptible seed of God, himself Set apart, sanctified, made righteous, made a king and a priest. You can look back at history and see that Jesus Christ has endured the cross, defeated the devil and brought us back with his own blood.

Speaker 1:

Israel is back in its own country. You can see the current day plagues, the wars and rumors of war, the earthquakes and famines, all leading up to jesus soon returned for his church. When he returns, not as a lamb but as a judge, and gathering his church to be with him forever. When he returns, will he be returning for you? I certainly hope so. You can change your destination of going to hell by giving your heart to him and making him the Lord of your life. Your sins have already been forgiven. You just need to sign the document on your heart. Dear Lord Jesus, come into my heart. I confess my sins and ask for your forgiveness. I put myself under your loving care and make you the Lord of my life In Jesus' name, amen.
