Dr. Angammai Monika:

Thank you so much, Richard, for the warm welcome. And it's indeed a pleasure to be here on your podcast.

Rexhen Doda:

It's a pleasure for us too. So I want to learn more about what inspired you to become a coach and then start your own coaching business. What was the start of it?

Dr. Angammai Monika:

Yeah. Before starting my coaching business, I would say I had a corporate experience of 12 years. So post marriage, I had two sabbatical breaks. So I tried to restart after first sabbatical break. I couldn't continue. And after my second sabbatical, again, I thought, why don't I start something of my own so that I have my financial freedom and time freedom and I can look after my family. So that made me to start something of my own. So I started my career again. as a career counselor in 2019. So in the initial first year, I counseled students from 8th to 12th grade and graduates. Because of my corporate experience and HR background, the parents started approaching me, why don't you counsel us? Or in Indian style, we say coaching. when it comes to professional. So then I thought about it, okay, why not help them out? And I was able to do that. So after that success, I wanted to elevate my profile to the next level. Then I took up the program of ICF and I have completed ICF ACTP PCC training that helped me to pitch my profile to high-end clients, not only sticking to the people who are 14 years of experience, equivalent to me. I started pitching to people who are 30 years experienced, 35 years experienced. I was able to break my own limiting belief because of the coaching practice. And yes, I have been fortunate enough to coach a directorate of Navy, Indian Navy, commanders of Navy, models, doctors. So I said, yes, I can do it. And that made me to like... That level of satisfaction, I would say, through coaching I got. I said, this is what I'm going to do. So I elevated and pitched to many other countries. I said, okay, why only India? Because I was already there in Pantene. So I started pitching to global countries and I was able to support them as well. And all because of coaching. I first coached myself through my mentors and coaches. Then I was able to coach my clients as well and help them out to get the results what they were aspiring for.

Rexhen Doda:

And that's basically, so you started in India and then you expanded slowly to other countries as well. Just like we mentioned on the intro, you're now working globally and you've worked with around 29 countries, actually. And what would you say throughout your coaching journey, what would you say you find the most rewarding working with your clients?

Dr. Angammai Monika:

I would say the transformation. That really gives me a high level of satisfaction and the fueling of my journey. Majorly the transformation. And when you impact one life, right? So you really feel, yes, you are capable of more. So you're not only like working on yourself. You are working on yourself. You are running a business at the same time impacting a life. So I feel coaching is not just a job. It's a service too, where you have the power. to transform other people's life. So that gives me an edge over compared to the other profiles or designations, what I held in the past. That made me to stick to this coaching for a long term.

Rexhen Doda:

And since we're talking about the transformation, before we get to that, is there a specific group of people that you typically work with? Do they fall into a specific demographic or a specific industry? Or, well, when we said demographic, we said there's multiple countries, but let's look at like age and gender and things like that. And also when it comes to the goals, is there a goal that generally unifies these clients that need your help? So how would you describe the ideal client? that you work with?

Dr. Angammai Monika:

Yeah, after working on for close to six or seven years, now I would be in a position to say that I'm an exact match for a mid-career professional who is stagnant in their career, might be five to 10 years or 15 years, but they still have that aspiration to grow to the next level. They do have fear factor. What if I lose a job? So they are my exact clients. Although I say I coach women, but I do end up like getting men clients. So 65% are men. my clients

Rexhen Doda:

and when it comes to the program is it a specific length or are there multiple programs that people can join for anyone who's listening and would just be interested in knowing how the program works

Dr. Angammai Monika:

yeah so usually for the vice president level so i do have like one call sessions where they just walk up to me with a specific concern or a challenge to be resolved immediately right so we work on that laser focused apart from that i have a quantum leap career coaching program which is delivered a span of three months 12 sessions and i equip my client with the tools and the resources and my one-on-one coaching which helps them to have that transformation the three months is something like i look for And we end up getting results in a month and even 10 days. So we have got CDC high cock from 35 lakhs Indian currency to 55 lakhs with one coaching session and 10 days of action plan. I said, you do it. Otherwise, you come to my coaching. He said, I will give it a try. So he was able to do it. So it's a win-win situation. And another one lady was from the technical background was aspiring for a DGM role. for the last nine and a half years, she was able to get the GM role within a month. So as you really pointed out, I work at the mindset level first, because I believe 80 to 90% is your mindset. And I have applied it in my life and thousands of other people's lives as well. So once you remove that limiting belief from your side, then the journey becomes very easy.

Rexhen Doda:

Absolutely. And now when it comes to the clients that you're working with, since there's 29 countries, over 29 countries, and it starts with India and then moved and then you spread out. What would you say has worked very well for you in terms of marketing? How do people find you or how do you find people?

Dr. Angammai Monika:

Yes. So in the initial journey, I would say it was word of mouth when I was transitioning from counseling to coaching. I did try Facebook ads and Google ads. They were working. So if you're consistent that you will be able to get those leads, but it's like an instant cash. But when you're planning for a legacy, right, you need to have that in your portfolio. So I was parallelly preparing my own portfolio. When I say my own portfolio, I started working on my ambitions as well, what I really wanted to see. So if you see, I am an Amazon bestselling author just to get the credibility or the visibility for my brand. I'm a World Women Icon Award winner 2023, although it has no relevance to the coaching. But people feel, okay, if she can do that in 30 plus, why can't me? I'm also in the same range category. She looks simple. She is simple. I don't think she's very highly qualified or knowledgeable. So everything by learning skills and being consistent, you were able to do it. So that really helps them to resonate with me. Apart from this, in the recent years, what I did, I had joint ventures. So when I say joint ventures, being in the career field, I had partnership with resume writers, LinkedIn optimization specialists. I do have people in my team, but I do collaborate, right? So earlier people might have had the fear while collaborating you might not get the lead but in today's time period I would say if you collaborate it's a win-win situation so when I say I collaborate with resume writer right so I do the career coaching and we have that resume which is mandatory right and the client also feels in safe hand and we both are excellent in delivering the quality so Collaborate with the right set of people, not anyone and everyone. Just test that quality first and then get into collaboration. So your main intention should be that you need to give quality result to your clients, not only the investment part. So once you focus on quality, then you can get the money part.

Rexhen Doda:

Absolutely. So basically you're referring people to resume coaches or collaborative coaches, and then they're also referring you some of their clients as well. So it works as a collaboration partnership.

Dr. Angammai Monika:

Yes. And apart from this, since I said I'm targeting women audience, right? I do partner with... women platforms like the Herky, which is India's largest career-oriented platform for women. We have SheRose, we have Iron Lady. So I am always visible in my tribe, right? So whenever I have an achievement of my own, it doesn't have to be a direct proportion to my coaching. Hey, this is my coaching package. Hey, this is my testimonial. No, see, this is what I aspired for and I have achieved. So I'm not pushing them towards coaching. I'm just inspiring them. If I can, why can't you? So it's like a long-term game, but yes, when you play smartly, you do end up getting consistent clients.

Rexhen Doda:

Thank you for sharing that. And right now, what would you say are the goals that you have? Do you have any goals specifically for the next one to three years with your coaching business?

Dr. Angammai Monika:

Yes, getting it to seven figures, consistent flow of clients. Still, there is a challenge in it. And I really appreciate Purple Circle taking that initiative and especially you for approaching the coaches and giving us the opportunity to share what are the challenges we have. And you guys are on the right direction. The coaches really need to scale their business, keeping the integrity in place. So I think it would be the best branch for the people who really want to scale in their business.

Rexhen Doda:

Thank you. Thank you so much for that. I appreciate it. And I also wanted to talk to you about investments as well. What have been some good investments that you made on your coaching business that you feel like, oh, that was actually a good investment and good return on it? And maybe if there's any, what have been some bad investments as well?

Dr. Angammai Monika:

I would say investing on coaching. learning the ICIT coaching. That actually helped me to transform my own life. After that, I was able to taste success again after a decade. So the Amazon Best Selling Book or World Woman Icon Award or Best Speaker of the Year, getting into motivational speaking. And I'm one of the top executive career coaches with Coach Foundation. Once I had the fear of not approach, but like, okay, you're not good enough. But I got it. through that. And now I'm featured in a salary like that. I like you have been featured in that website. So I think coaching has been the biggest investment for me and for my clients.

Rexhen Doda:

And right now, do you see any challenges? What would you say is right now the biggest bottleneck for you to get to where you want to be with your coaching to get to seven figures? What would you say is that one thing that if you were to fix it, that would actually make everything else a little better?

Dr. Angammai Monika:

Yes, I would say getting things automated after the intervention of AI, which is very good. I also learned it by implemented AI and chargeability, but somehow I feel, yes, I can still get like more things automated and a great team support can help me out when it comes to scaling to the next level.

Rexhen Doda:

Absolutely. And automation actually, for every coach does make a lot of difference because you can save so much time with your admin tasks and just focus on your coaching hours and it just obviously scaling to a point that you need to grow. You also have to think about if you're just doing one-on-one coaching, you would need to have more coaches that can do the coaching for you. Or if you're doing group coaching, you just need to focus more on marketing and grow that group. So yeah, right now, are you doing just one-on-one coaching or also group coaching?

Dr. Angammai Monika:

Yes, one-on-one, really focusing on one-on-one. I do group coaching for women community, as I pointed out, because of the time. And I do have a plan of getting my programs or courses, like the video content or online courses. So these are a couple of things in my mind for the next one year. So getting the courses so that I can focus more on one. At the same time, I'll be able to support my tribe, not to say that I don't have time.

Rexhen Doda:

And do you find it challenging working in different time zones often?

Dr. Angammai Monika:

Yeah, as I said, 12 years of corporate. So I work with IBM American Express. So we guys are used to it. And after being a mother of two, then we are pro. So anytime we get into the sessions with full alertness, I would say. You have to, like when you love something, right? So I would say coaching is my love or I have so much passion towards it. Even if in midnight, someone wakes me up and say, hey, Monica, I have this challenge. So I would be definitely helping them out. So if you have that true passion, then only you can do it. consisted in this coaching because it also comes with ups and downs.

Rexhen Doda:

Absolutely. I just like was thinking even for me right now, I'm like located in Europe. So generally the calls that I do are afternoon and after. So it's always a little bit of a challenge, not as much because I only have to, most of the coaches basically that are in the podcast are from the United States. And when we interviewing is just a six hour difference for me, but it's been a I would say not the strongest challenge. It's just kind of like, would I like to have the actual normal time zone? Yeah. But yeah, like you said, you have to put more effort. Sometimes you have to sacrifice your time in order for it to grow. So I really appreciate that. And what would be an advice you'd like to give to, and this would be the final question, what advice would you give to other coaches who just like you are scaling, are trying to scale their impact?

Dr. Angammai Monika:

So One point which I have seen in many of the coaches and peers is even if they are in their third or fourth year, niche finalization is something many coaches struggle with. But once they finalize, it's like they have won the half match. And the second thing I would say, once you are scaling, don't hesitate to collaborate with people. So don't feel that they will steal your audience. we will multiply the income. Thank you. Yeah, two things. And you guys are there to scale it to the next level, right? Like seven and eight figures, which is still a dream for many of the coaches like us. So you are giving that dream to us. Yes, you guys can scale it to the next level.

Rexhen Doda:

Thank you. Thank you so much, Monica. It's been a pleasure having you on the podcast. For anyone who wants to reach out to you or connect with you, they can go into LinkedIn and search Dr. Angamai Monica and they will be able to find your LinkedIn profile. Is there any other way that people can connect to you or reach out to you?

Dr. Angammai Monika:

That would be the best way I would be available on LinkedIn.

Rexhen Doda:

Thank you. Thank you so much for coming to the podcast.

Dr. Angammai Monika:

Thank you so much, Rachel. So it's been a pleasure interacting with you and keep up the good work and keep supporting coaches like us.
