interestingly Asian community they began to more open to ayahuasca so now you've entered into an altered state of consciousness so your regular consciousness is ego driven but under the influence of a medicine your ego has shifted your perception has shifted you're now in an altered state of consciousness and so your internal landscape of who you are of what's going on has dramatically changed experiment and experience you have to experiment with life try something may kill you i don't know right you take a big risk that's only one percent where it's gonna be a bad day for you but you have a ninety nine percent possibility or probability that that chance you take is gonna open up a whole new world of amazing things incredible things for you welcome to The Heart Pot the guest I have here today Sel Sarkin he's a magnificent inventor healer teacher and plant medicine facilitator who has helped thousands of people around the globe and he has definitely been a true mentor teacher and family soul family to me ever since I met him he has brought me into many deep transformative experience and today I have this honor to invite him into my show so so how's going doing well it's another beautiful day in Los Angeles and thank you for inviting me to share a podcast with you and let's see where the journey takes us so what have you been doing that you feel very passionate about lately well there's a lot of things that involve the different areas of work that I do and being able to help people from from all sorts of situations that they find themselves in and so there's really I kind of call it two categories the one would be physical phenomenon where they're dealing with possibly a cancer parasites or issues with their organs their body so that's in the physical realm and then we have metaphysical spiritual psychological emotional realm which also plays a large part in physical manifestations so somebody may come to me who is depressed or anxious I may work with someone who has cancer or diabetes or something going on with their skin like eczema and skin conditions are often psychological or stress related like somebody breaks out in hives or develops a rash quite often that has to do with psychological issues or stress working with someone who has cancer is a lot more involved in as far as what stage they're at what have they been doing have they been following so called modern medicine with chemotherapy or have they chosen a holistic path so that all adds to the mix of complexity wow you're really a holistic healer or facilitator that holds space for a lot of people definitely I personally Learned a lot from you as well even though I physical realm I'm pretty good at it but as for Emotional Realm you helped me to discover things that I wasn't even aware of and that's a tremendous work that you have done here for the world actually but before we get deeper into that realm can we know a little bit about the what's your life before this like how did you get into this realm well I can start when I was just a little kid my dad was an orthopedic surgeon and he would leave his medical journals lying around the house and so at an early age I don't know five six 7 years old I would glance through those journals and would read some sections and then go and ask him questions and after about a year I realized my understanding of different medical conditions was pretty good reading every journal under the sun so I already within a year had a pretty good knowledge of the definitions of medicines medical condition psychiatry psychology and so on I think that planted a good seed of inquiry where I became really interested in aspects of human I call it human endeavor because the focus is on okay you have a problem mm hmm what do you need to do to resolve that you have an issue what do you have to do to get better now the problem with science and modern medicine is what's called compartmentalization so you have in modern medicine specialists and a specialist messes everything up right so you have a skin doctor a throat doctor a heart doctor yeah and because they have such a narrow focus on what's going on with you that system I think um I could say fails miserably but the results are interesting meaning you have a heart problem and then the DOC says well we need to do a heart transplant and that may work for how long well in some cases it's been pretty good but the hot doctor is not really addressing the bigger picture of why do you have that condition in the first place what lead to that what's the background so if he had a broad understanding and said well if you did this and you tried for example to detox or you went to an environment that supported you and you could heal naturally and so on and you went ahead and did all of these things and suddenly your heart condition improves and goes back to normal you didn't need to have a heart transplant right but that's a dilemma because you'll never know yeah somebody has the transplant and they go on to lead whatever life they lead and you say well it worked it's great fantastic but that person you'll never know because they never went on the other side of the holistic approach and did a detox and a cleanse and went to a good environment and changed their living situation and improved their mental and emotional health and they got better too and you say well that was exactly what they needed to do right they didn't need a transplant they went and healed themselves naturally I totally agree with you on that aspect I've found out that recently a lot of people especially in the States or in Northern America a lot of people realize that doctors they're they're only treating for the disease but they are not treating the person they're not healing the person they are healing only do the treatment with the disease so that's why they don't have that bigger picture if I put it this way imagine that you are in a big company with lot of department everyone in that department only responsible for only particular department they have no clues or no idea to the bigger picture of it people don't have the holistic view for especially their human health I totally agree with you on that based on that understanding of how the recent medication is not really helping the human health you've shifted from treating the physical realm into the emotional or spiritual realm how did that transform to you well I mean after high school I went and did engineering at university and I never went to medical school because I felt having to study a curriculum which was essentially designed by pharmaceutical companies or under the lobby of pharmaceutical companies I didn't want to become a drug pusher right I didn't want to become a dealer doctors to me are dealers right they're just selling drugs well it's not my interest so I went and did engineering okay disclaimer I have no idea okay yeah well I mean that's a sort of a kind of a dark picture I paint of doctors but essentially a lot of their function is to prescribe drugs and these are legal so called legal drugs which do again often a lot of damage so I was not in favor of going to med school and studying modern medicine I went and did engineering instead what that gave me was a very good foundation into thinking out of the box in med school you're taught to stay in the box you have to do this this and this don't go anywhere outside the box and think for yourself this is the this is they you want you to this is the information we want you to use with your patients and stick to that so I got a very good grounding with engineering on how to think so then I slowly started to incorporate the principles of engineering into medicine and that means you have to look at the bigger picture so if somebody comes to me with a condition I will ask them probably more questions that have nothing to do with the condition so that I can build a much better picture of why they have that condition in the first place would you mind elaborate a little bit more like for instance what kind of question and what kind of idea you would form behind that difference of question that you wanted to ask that individual well a good example is somebody comes to me who's anxious they say I can't sleep at night I'm not doing well I wake up in the morning kind of feeling very desperate and I don't want to even go through the day it's difficult and so on so now I start asking questions like what do you have for breakfast nothing to do with anxiety what's kind of food do you eat where do you work what do you do what's your day look like what's very important for someone who's anxious is to ask the question what sort of friends do you have what's the relationship with your family like do you have a family and so on and so you keep on building the picture based on what information they give and so they may say I hate my job I'm under a lot of stress and pressure I'm always being criticized at work so it doesn't take much to start to see why that person has become anxious it's actually very simple just by by going through the steps why that person has that condition now where it becomes interesting is one question are you willing to change what do you do are you willing to quit your job for example and they say no I can't do that because I've got bills to pay and I've got to pay my rent and and who's going to take care of that right so now they're freaking out from both sides they hate the job very stressful and they're afraid if they quit the job that they're going to be homeless or out on the streets so now we have a difficult situation it's really surprising for me to hear you by asking all these simple question that these lead are persons who share deep inside like what exactly is going on with their life usually that person might not willing to share what's going on maybe deep inside they knew what's going on they didn't want it to diminish it but the way you open it and the way you try to understand a person that's really approachable and really help people to open their hearts you'd diagnose directly into their hearts actually yeah through that question so now this takes us to the next step right so we've been taught that you have to have things in place you've got to have your job your security so the whole thing with society is you have to be functional to be secure so that's it those two are words closely tied together society wants you to be functional to give you security but this person is suffering because they're stressed they're anxious they're not enjoying their life so now it means to go to the next step that person has to take a risk so this is one of the fundamentals of life is to take a risk meaning to go into the unknown now to get better that person actually has to either quit their job or change it do something that's different they have to go to their boss and say I can't do this anymore it's freaking me out I'm too stressed they have to do something that will change the way they're living so society says do not take any risks be safe be secure but the price you pay for that is now you're dying you're anxious you're not having a good time so the person says okay for me to get better I need to take a risk meaning let's say I'm going to quit my job now we come on to inner trust well if I don't have a job I have to find something else does that person trust themselves enough to make that happen maybe they'll go into the unknown and find a much better job no stress more money something magical that's the chance you I think in that scenario a lot of people including me I did had that situation for instance creating this podcast start doing the new stuff every time we step out of the comfort zone to do anything big is stepping to the unknown but for me I feel like the reason why I wanted to do all this is because I know deep inside my heart that is the true joy that I'll have by having conversation with people who have wisdom to share in the world and then to see that a lot of people are benefiting from our conversation so it all comes down to whether that person is willing to listen to their heart the reason why that person is suffering is basically not listen to what they really want inside of their heart and they've been ignoring that by using a lot of critical thinking problem solving but yeah I wanted to echo to you on that as well and I wanted to find out more about how did you start getting into stepping into the unknown because I believe that for you as a engineer background guy you definitely have a lot of logical mindsets as well when people are asking you to step into the unknown how did you overcome that how did you feel at the time going back to as a child I was very curious and I would always ask these how does that work what's going on I want to go and check it out and even in my teenage years I remember wanting to travel and to me travel is a great teacher once you leave your environment and go somewhere else you're going to learn an incredible amount maybe you have to learn another language but for sure in traveling you're going to meet people outside of your circle of religion thinking beliefs we're going to tell you very different things to perhaps what you grew up with they're going to show you things you could never have imagined you're going to see things you can't believe and so travel to me is the greatest way of going into the unknown now you have 2 possibilities with travel you can do external travel that means go out and look at the world and you can do internal travel which is really the way to find yourself much more than external travel because external travel is going to actually help you find how to do the internal travel it's a beautiful dance or combination so you put those two together combine that with some curiosity and you have an incredible mix these are life's lessons life's journey and it's definitely out of the box yeah beautiful sharing feel like in the modern world mostly even for me in the early stages I feel like to do the external traveling is something that everyone's looking forward to right and everyone the society values it but there's not much saying about internal traveling into deep inside of your heart your soul and what do you really want to know thyself so yeah thank you for bringing that up and I also wanted to echo on that to emphasize the importance of the internal travel to discover our soul so leads me to this question about your journey into travel into your internal soul in terms of the medicine place since that you're doing a lot of medicine place to hold a space for people to travel inside of their world how did you get into that I really feel is a transformative experience to share with the world and start holding the space for other people I love to hear your experience on that sure so the common word for internal travel is meditation if we simplify it as soon as you close your eyes and let's say sit on a chair close your eyes for 5 10 minutes you begin the inner travel there's no choice you're not able to be distracted by what's going outside or around you because now your eyes are closed so I call that a beginning phase or understanding as just that simple practice of close your eyes for a few minutes you begin the inner journey and there are a million different types of meditation that can have powerful effects of your inner journey if you add breath work to that it gets much stronger the breath work will take you much deeper and you can add to that and add in some sound so that's why sound baths have become popular now if you want to add to that you can then start talking about spirit medicines or sacred medicines or what we say are the psychedelics what do the psychedelics do they essentially change your software and how do they do that well they lift the veils or the filters that have to do with your ego so essentially psychedelics have a lot to do with the dismantling or dissolving of your ego because your software has changed so now you've entered into an altered state of consciousness so your regular consciousness is ego driven but under the influence of a medicine your ego has shifted your perception has shifted you're now in an altered state of consciousness and so your internal landscape who you are of what's going on has dramatically changed and you can take a small dose of psychedelic medicine and so you still have some functionality of the ego if you take a hero's dose and a large dose you enter into very different worlds dimensions you may see other visions people entities a whole scenario or crazy things may start happening and within all of that there are messages and I call those messages information for you to find out about yourself to find out two things primarily the one is your fears or fears for example of death your fears of loss your fears of being amazing of keeping small and then the great part of the journey is finding the love that you have for yourself and that can expand to the love that you have for others people you know and then it can expand even more to the universe the love that you have the world so that's your choice thank you cell for giving this holistic painting big picture of traveling into the inner journey one point that you brought up inside of that inner journey how plant medicine space is able to dissolve the ego that we used to hold on and then I think that's a lot of people we are trying to distinguish between our ego ego voice and our inner heart voice in terms of that is there any other way like before take on to the medicine journey is there any other way to distinguish any suggestion well the masters of old would always talk about how flexible are you how willing are you to be open minded to listen to somebody else's point of view now the interesting thing about indoctrination programming whatever you want to call it which starts as a child and then they say programming is pretty much done by the age of 7 so it's like whatever's being implanted into you by the age of 7 the work is done and so then to change those beliefs become difficult people will hold on to that information that programming they're willing to die for that so the masters ask the question how flexible can you be in your thinking because it's that inflexibility that causes suffering that you want the world you want your life to be a certain way has to be this way can never change and all you do is suffer but once you're willing to be flexible allow the world to show you things and to adapt to changing circumstances your life can be full of joy so that's the combination flexibility equals joy and happiness because you adapt you see you're willing to be intelligent idiots are those who do not adapt idiots are those who are not flexible 100% the reason why that I was able to connect with you even deeper and have that transformative experience is because for me being open minded as a and it's an Asian many of our audience they're probably Asian as well and we have limited or even none resource of getting touch into the plant medicines we would have that stereotype of thinking that it's some kind of drug but actually it's similar to Ayurveda interestingly Asian community they began to more open to Ayurveda instead of the other plant medicine because I don't know it's just how society shape shape around the the stuff and that's really interesting topic to talk on we don't have to dig into it today but I just wanted to share with that because for me being an open mind person to be flexible to try out everything that's coming in front of me take it as an opportunity to see whether I like it or not it's really helped me to open up a brand new experience of life and that's a great gift do you have any suggestion or any advice for those people who never get in touch with this kind of knowledge or this kind of experience before is there any suggestion beforehand or something that they need to prep inside of their heart I had said earlier that to see the world differently you have to leave your closed environment so it doesn't matter if you're Asian whatever if you grow up in a certain area never really leave that area and the people around you you have a very limited viewpoint of actually what's going on as soon as you're willing to travel a bit and see what else is happening in the world particularly when you meet other people how they think it begins to open up areas of wonder and curiosity inside you now for those people who may have a natural desire to grow and don't leave their environment if they're open to trying something such as a psychedelic medicine that will show them a little more of who they are that person has some courage courage curiosity willingness to go further because it always comes down to fear right how much fear do you have that you always want everything to be the same you want your life to be known and then you see yourself in a certain way this is who I am this is what I've got this is what I've become used to these are my little experiences that's all fear but once you're willing to venture out and try different things I like to use the two words experiment and experience you have to experiment with life try something it may kill you I don't know right you take a big risk you do something stupid you do something wrong you can lose your life people are afraid to experiment because they don't know where it's going to go but that's only 1% where it's going to be a bad day for you but you have a 99 percent possibility or probability that that chance you take is going to open up a whole new world of amazing things incredible things for you so then it's worth the risk you have a 99 percent chance of it going to be beneficial for you definitely worth a chance of trying something experimenting with the unknown and that can be Ayahuasca can be a psychedelic medicine because if you look at the texts from thousands of years humanity has always been doing psychedelics there's mushrooms everywhere on the planet right weed or pot everywhere on the planet people have been drinking alcohol for who knows how long to get a buzz feel differently yeah so in a sense it's not even risk taking because we've been doing this forever and a day but it comes down to the individual just because everybody else has been doing it doesn't mean I have to do it I'm going to live a very straight and narrow life yeah I'm not going to take any chances and then that person's gonna die young so you want to live a long life take a chance thank you for sharing well I just want to remind that we are still in a pg13 channel here but I love how you describe the traveling into that inner journey and you were mentioning about that new experience of opening up to plant teacher that is more also going to another country trying out new stuff trying to live a new way and trying to speak another whole new language that you are not familiar of and traveling into the inner journey using different kinds of plan teacher is really another foreign experience for people to do it even though it is really interesting enough that how people are getting more and more acceptance into ayahuasca instead of other plan teacher I just want to bring that up as well to remind everyone that there are not only ayahuasca in this world that will bring you experience there are many things that in the world just like different countries there are different kind of countries that can bring you different kind of vibe so yeah thank you sharing Sel for so much beautiful message and the knowledge of wisdom inside of the plant medicines space to travel the inner journey last but not least what is that one thing that you wish you could have done when you were younger I don't really have something that I feel I missed out on I don't have really regret so certainly I've lived a full life however if we're going to talk about what I know today and what I didn't know back then is all about love so if I knew what I know today and I could apply my heart to when I was a teenager in my teens or even this matters around love that I was certainly afraid to love and that caused me a lot of pain and if I was able to I would have lived my life very differently I deeply resonate to that totally so that's why our show's name is the hard part so from a rate 1 to 10 how much do you think like right now you're operating from your heart now well every day is different and some days I feel my heart is very open and I feel very loving and very expansive and then some days it's shut down and closed off and I tell tell people don't come anywhere near me otherwise I won't be a good a good what's the word exchange I'm upset I'm this I'm that but so every day is different I think that's the beauty of life is to just observe and watch how we go through our emotional states the key then is awareness in being able to identify when I'm upset and to come out of it and when we have awareness we can come out of that more quickly you don't want to be stuck in being upset or hurt for too long you can be there for a while but don't let it become a habit that's very true I always feel like the true master is not about being the high vibration or being expansive all the time we embrace the up and downs and just let the life universe move through us but don't hold on to any expression we have as I call law of rhythm in everyday life so last but not least what is the one thing you can suggest anyone to create mind and heart coherence the word that comes up right away is gratitude and if you can bring that into your daily practice first of all the fact that you could get out of bed in the morning there's many people who don't even have that luxury of getting out of bed so if you can get out of bed you can be grateful that you now have the whole day ahead of you with opportunity and what is that opportunity that's entirely up to you opportunity to create anything we want yeah you can create as much magic or as much misery or as much whatever it is you want to create the day is wide open amazing beautiful share and a beautiful conversation that I have here with you today so if many of our audience wanted to find you even though you're right now in Los Angeles area where can they find you or like do you have email or website or anything that's open contacts for the audience so on the internet I'm part of a team of Psychedelic Integration Coaches and the name of that website is Psychedelia Integration Org okay if they want if somebody wants to email me they can contact me at sel, s e l sarkin s a r k I n@Gmail com awesome thank you I'll put the information down below to my description as well wow amazing thank you Sel for today's conversation a wonderful wonderful journey that you take us from outside of the travel into inner journey travel wow it's amazing I love it it's a rich world thank you so much thank you so much till next time good seeing you bye Namaste Namaste
