Tim Pulliam: Never Too Late to Come Out
What does it mean to come out late and Black in America? If you’re searching for Black queer coming out stories, advice on coming out later in life, or how to find LGBTQ+ community when you feel “behind,” this episode is for you.
On this week’s BabyGay™ Podcast, host PJ Brescia (they/them) sits down with Emmy-Nominated ABC News journalist Tim Pulliam. He shares how he came out as gay at 29 while building a public-facing career, navigating faith, family, and growing up in the Bible Belt. Together, they explore how "den mothers" and "underground gatherings" shaped Tim’s journey, moving from fear to freedom, and why it’s never too late to embrace your truth and live authentically.
Tim Pulliam is an Emmy-nominated, veteran TV journalist with nearly 20 years of experience covering breaking news, politics, race, and culture for ABC 7 Los Angeles and ABC News. He has reported on the LA wildfires, ICE raids, the George Zimmerman trial, and the opening of the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture. His reporting on the Michael Dunn murder trial was featured in the HBO documentary 3 ½ Minutes: Ten Bullets. Tim has been honored by the National Association of Black Journalists and named Reporter of the Year by the Associated Press and RTDNAC.
If you’ve ever wondered how to overcome internalized homophobia, find your queer community, or take your first steps toward coming out, you’ll find encouragement and clarity here. This episode reminds you that coming out is a journey, not a race... and that you’re never too late.
