Morning Brew with Janine Ford
Speaker 1From the Horn Auto Center Studios Chris Bennett and the Morning Brew. Let's check in with our best friend, Janine Ford at our sister stations Magic 1017 and Itag 1067. Janine, are you over there?
Speaker 3Of course I am yes, yes.
Speaker 1Heck. Yes, she hasn't left. She never leaves. I was wondering if you had any news on the mountain you wanted to share. You have your show tonight Voice of the Mountain. Monday through Friday, from 5 to 6.
Speaker 3Yes.
Speaker 1Anything we should know about?
Animal Cruelty Issues in Apache County
Speaker 3Well, yeah, yeah, last night we had a really good show all on wolves, on the wolf packs up here, and learning about that Tonight it's a little bit. It's going to be a little hardcore. Okay, we have some problems up in Apache County and this has been going on for quite some time with really bad animal hoarders and animal cruelty, and one was broken up a few days ago thanks to Apache County Sheriff's Department helping out and a lot of rescues. They went in and they took like 31 dogs and cats and the guy was charged and arrested. But here's the bigger problem and what we're talking about tonight at five o'clock there are two and even more people that are doing the same things up there and there seems to be.
Speaker 3Apache County doesn't have animal control yet and that seems to be the place for hoarders and people like this that have this problem to run to and do this and it's really sad. So, like more equine and horses were rescued and there at the Arizona Equine they have 10 new mouths to feed, as of a few days ago, 31 dogs and cats and chickens and goats and all these things that were rescued. But there's more people doing this and something has to be done. Oh yeah, it's sad.
Speaker 3So sad the pictures, the pictures I posted some of those rescue on our iTalk page yesterday on there but we can't post most of them. I mean most of them are horrifying.
Speaker 1Yeah, oh horrible.
Speaker 3Well, janine, if you want to hear more about this story, listen to Janine and her show Voice of the Mountain tonight, from 5 to 6 pm.
Speaker 1Yes, and how you can help. That's the big thing, is how people can help.
Speaker 3That's great yeah how can people help? Oh, they can help these rescues. They can call Apache County and say, hey, what can be done about these? We need to get these other people out of there. They need to have something statewide, because I'm going to tell you that some of these people have been prosecuted in Maricopa County, are not allowed to own animals in Maricopa County, and you know what they do.
Speaker 3They move to other counties and keep doing this, and their last stop, generally from being run out of other places, is Apache County, that's not good, no, no, yeah, All right.
Jack Black Lookalike Discussion
Speaker 1Well, I'll be tuning into the Voice of the Mountain tonight to see how I can help and when we come back you want to have a little more fun. Janine, before we get to some good news this morning, I wanted to ask you a question. Yes, I posted a video of me dancing with my sister at her 50th wedding and a bunch of people posted oh, that looks like Jack Black. For a second I thought it was Jack Black, and some people tell me I look like Jack Black. I don't see it.
Speaker 3Do you think I look like In some you know, in some, and there's a look on your face. Sometimes I'm not gonna say it's a crazy look, but no, no, there's, there's some similarities, I think yeah, sometimes at certain angles and when you have that little, that glare, that right he does and that glare, that you do.
Speaker 2You know what I'm talking about it screams yeah.
Speaker 1Well, I could think of like I think that's complimentary to say I look like Jack Black. Before I grew my hair out and had a beard, I would always get Mr Bean, so I'll take Jack Black any day over, mr.
Speaker 3Bean. Oh my gosh, mr Bean, I don't see that one. That's funny.
Speaker 1That's funny. Speaking of famous Jacks, did you know it's Jack Nicholson's 88th birthday?
Speaker 3Yeah, I talked about that earlier in the show. That's kind of cool, 88 years old. Yeah, he scares me a little bit, yeah, he has some scary characters.
Speaker 1I want to play a game. I know you're not good at it, but I am going to say a quote that was said by Jack Nicholson, and you have to guess what movie it was in.
Speaker 3Okay.
Speaker 1Okay, how about this one? You can't handle the truth.
Speaker 3Oh, you know what? That's the okay, I know which movie is. I'm trying to think of the name of the movie. It's the one that the anger management thing.
Speaker 1No, I believe no, it's A Few Good Men, oh A Few Good Men, oh that was so good.
Speaker 3Yes, that was a great one.
Speaker 1How about this one here's?
Speaker 3Johnny. Oh, that's easy, that's the shiny. There you go.
Speaker 1All right, let's see. Oh, this one. I think the movie was late 90s, early 2000s. You make me want to be a better man.
Speaker 3Oh, that, oh not Terms of Endearment.
Speaker 1No, as Good as it Gets.
Speaker 3I love that one he had so many he had a great one, and here's one more.
Speaker 1Wait Until they Get a Load of Me.
Speaker 3Yeah, yeah that one. Oh Wait Until they Get a Load of Me.
Speaker 1He's like a guy that dresses up as a bat.
Speaker 3Oh, batman, there you go. You made it a little easy on me there, that was funny.
Speaker 1Well, Janine, how about when we come back, we share some good news stories on this? Talk About Something Good Tuesday. That sounds great.
Talk About Something Good Tuesday
Speaker 3All right.
Speaker 1All right, janine, on this. Talk About Something Good. Tuesday let's share some good news stories. I'll go first. Okay day, let's share some good news stories, I'll go first.
Speaker 1At 83, bobbi Oxford from Littleton, colorado, finally fulfilled her lifelong dream of driving a race car. Growing up in Hawaii, she was captivated by her brother's drag races but was never allowed the opportunity to race herself because she was a girl. And one time she had a chance to race in like a powderpuff women's race, but it got canceled because of rain, leaving her dream unfulfilled until now, thanks to AARP's wish of a lifetime, she got to take the wheel at Pikes Peak International Raceway in Colorado in a retired NASCAR vehicle and she had her own race suit helmet. And she completed a couple laps explaining, exclaiming I have the need, the need for speed, baby. Her family and fellow residents at her nursing home cheered her on and uh, celebrated this long-awaited moment. And after a drive, a professional driver treated her to high speed spins, given her the full racing experience she's always desired and overjoyed. She declared nothing can ever, ever top this. Her story is a testament to the idea that it's never too late, janine, to chase your dreams.
Speaker 3Oh, I love that one. I saw her picture online. She's cute too. That was really cool. And you know you mentioned Jack Nicholson's birthday also. Well, guess what? It's the world's oldest penguin's birthday this week. It was actually last week, but 37 years old. Oh my gosh, holy moly yeah that's an old penguin, yeah.
Speaker 3Her species usually lives 10 to 15 years in the wild, but she lives 37 in a zoo, see. And you should see her cake. It's pretty darn cute. So there she is, and Schnapp, Schnapp, Schnapp, Spinette, Schnapp it's a weird name, is her name, but anyway she is in a wildlife sanctuary in Cornwall. So there you go she. Happy birthday to her. And also one more birthday a guy near Niagara Falls. His name is Burdette Sisler. He turned 110 years old and 250 people showed up for his party.
Speaker 2He was born in.
Speaker 3Ohio, but then he moved to Canada, niagara Falls, when he was three years old, but, oh my goodness, 110. And he's got a great picture too. Heck, yes, yeah, super cool. I love these viral good news stories. And also, you know, it's Earth Day, right, it's Earth Day, that's right, yeah. So I did a story earlier today about how people suffer Earth Day guilt.
Speaker 2Oh.
Speaker 3Like yes, echo guilt, don't suffer, echo guilt.
Speaker 1Okay, I won't.
Speaker 3Like if you're worried about recycling every little thing, you touch that kind of stuff wasting food, echo guilt.
Paul from Beaumont Joins
Speaker 1I recycle my jokes all the time. There you go, I'm always there you go Don. Tuesday Love you, best friend, you too. Bye-bye Woo.
Speaker 2That's my blog, because Paul from Beaumont said so.
Speaker 1Woo-woo, yee-yee, it's Paul from Beaumont on this Tuesday morning. How you doing.
Speaker 2Oh man, I'm doing great, I'm doing fantastic. Buddy, how you doing.
Speaker 1I'm doing great. I heard you say that you are done with Easter. Easter ended Sunday. Why are you still having an Easter hangover? Too many eggs. So do you guys hide real eggs or do you hide plastic?
Speaker 2eggs, uh-uh. No, not plastic ones.
Speaker 1So then, why do you have so many eggs?
Speaker 2Well, deviled eggs, potato salad. Oh, I mean there are some boiled eggs. Yeah, I mean like they colored like real eggs.
Speaker 1Right, right, oh, okay, and so now you have to like, turn those into egg salad sandwiches and start eating those.
Speaker 2Yeah, and then the residual after effects.
Speaker 1Like what are the after effects? If you were making a commercial for— Don't play dumb with me, fella. Don't play dumb with me If you were going to make a commercial for eggs, like one of those medication commercials, and you're going to tell us the side effects. Tell us the side effects of eating too much eggs.
Speaker 2Eggs, the two-day hangover that comes around and throws you out the room.
Speaker 1Paul, I have some exciting news. You actually told me about it. Yeah, on Friday at the D-backs game we gave away tickets to that game. Yesterday it's country night and at the end of the concert or at the end of the game, they're going to have a concert by a country star who happens to have been on our show and is one of your friends. Who is it?
Speaker 2Scotty Hastings.
Speaker 1Heck, yes, scotty Hastings. He is a new country music, best friend of the Morning Brew, a friend of Paul from Beaumont, and he has a new song out and in honor of him playing at the end of the D-backs game on Friday, how about we play a Scotty Hastings song? Let's play that bad boy dude, all right. How about his new one, pro Beer, pro Beer, I'm all about it. Heck yeah, buddy Paul, have you heard of this thing called ChatGPT or AI? I've heard of AI, yeah Well, so like AI or ChatGPT, it's like just a super powerful search engine and it's cool. Some people think it's scary, but I love using it.
Speaker 1And I asked it this morning what celebrities you and I look like and I put in a bunch of pictures of myself and a bunch of pictures of you and you want to hear what it said. Let us hear it. All right, it told me that I'm rocking big Jack Black energy, not just the beard and the hair, but that full-on, chaotic, lovable comedy vibe like School Rock meets. I just bought this Hawaiian shirt because it felt right, I'll take it. What do you agree with that? Yeah, yeah, it's pretty impressive just off pictures, all right, and here's what it said about, uh, my buddy paul. He's from beaumont and he's got that classic texas warmth tall laid back, solid as a rock. The. He's basically John Goodman meets Craig T Nelson, the actor that played Coach Picture Dan Conner. If he was a grill master with a heart of gold, you just know Paul's the guy who brings extra chairs and cold drinks to every get-together. So saying you look like John Goodman and Craig T Nelson. What do you say to that? You agree? No, I don't think.
Speaker 2AI is right on the looks. I mean like, let's see, I'm not. It's a dead guy and a fat guy.
Speaker 1But it's going more by your personality and your charm.
Speaker 2That ain't what's in the opening line.
Speaker 1Well, paul, and I look like Jack.
Speaker 2Yeah, personality, they were off a little bit. They didn't say nothing about my music talent.
Speaker 1Oh, that's right. Well, I didn't. To be honest, I didn't tell it about your music talent.
Speaker 2I didn't know. I was from Beaumont Because I told it. Okay, okay, you told it.
Speaker 1All right, bonus edition, just for the podcast. It is are you smarter than a redneck between Paul from Beaumont and myself on this Earth Day? Here we go, paul. More than half of the breathable oxygen in the world comes from where Is it? A forests, b oceans, c flowering plants or D clouds? Paul Paul Forests. That's what I would say. Correct answer oceans. Paul Paul Forest.
Speaker 2That's what I would say. Correct answer Oceans, whatever.
Speaker 1Whatever, how much of the world's oxygen is produced by just the Amazon rainforest? Is it A, 1%, b, 5% or C, 10% or D 20%?
Speaker 2Paul, paul, it's pretty high, it's pretty high. It's pretty high, I'm going to say 20.
Speaker 1Dang, it is 20. We're tied at one apiece. Going to the last question, pick a number from three to 10. Six, six, here we go. How many people in the world are dependent on fish as their main source of daily protein? People in the world are dependent on fish as their main source of daily protein.
Speaker 2Is it a 33?
Speaker 1b 43, c 53 or d 63. We'll say it's low paul paul, the lowest one. You got 33. Okay, I'm gonna say 43. Correct, answer 43. I am smarter than a redneck on this Earth Day. Do you smell that? What's so stupid about it? These ocean questions.
Speaker 2There's no way, because you've got to have a doggone air tank to go in the water like that. So how is it produced? That's bogus, and how is that? Many people solely dependent on fish?
Speaker 1I don't know. There's a lot of people in this world and a lot of people live near the ocean. You ain't got vegetables? All right, paul, we love you. Sorry you didn't win today and sorry you're a little confused, but we'll talk to you tomorrow. I'm not confused. All right, buddy, talk to you tomorrow. I'm not confused. Alright, buddy, talk to you later. Have a good one, you too. Bye-bye.
