Chris Bennett Episode 48

The familiar voices of Morning Brew regulars bring warmth and laughter to start the week as we catch up with Virgil the Cowboy from Eager, Arizona. He shares updates on spring foaling season at his ranch and reveals how his hardworking crew spent their weekend making sandwiches for firefighters battling the local wildfire. Through our playful "Back to the Future Price is Right" game, we discover Virgil hasn't mailed a letter since joining the Marines in 1981 - a charming revelation that sparks nostalgia about how everyday costs have changed dramatically over decades.

When Paul from Beaumont calls in, his self-described "brutal" weekend building a fence with his son Jesse has us all laughing about DIY projects gone wrong. The conversation takes an unexpected turn during our Johnny Depp trivia challenge, where Paul demonstrates suspiciously detailed knowledge about his wife Rhonda's celebrity crush, correctly identifying everything from Depp's first film role to his voice acting work.

The episode wraps with a collection of motivational quotes perfect for Monday morning momentum. Bruce Lee's wisdom stands out: "A goal is not always meant to be reached; it often serves simply as something to aim at." This profound reminder to aim high, even if we fall short, sends listeners into their week with renewed purpose and perspective.

These personal connections with our regular callers create the small-town community feeling that makes Morning Brew special. Their stories, challenges, and humor reflect the everyday experiences we all share, reminding us that sometimes the most meaningful wisdom comes from our neighbors. Don't be a stranger this week, and I hope you and the cowgirls and cowboys stay safe.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, the cowgirls were kind of worried about you. They wanted to know if you even know how to ride a horse.

Speaker 1:

No, I don't, but I don't think it's that hard. I've been on a couple, like you know, where you pay to ride the horse and they always give me the old nice horse. That won't hurt you. But uh, yeah, coming up, I am going to uh join you and the cowgirls as a ranch hand for the day at your ranch. Sound, good, we'll see. Uh, we'll see, I'm doing it. I'm doing it. All right, virgil, we love you, buddy, talk to you later, good morning.

Speaker 2:

It's the morning brew with chris. Who's this Talk to you later, later, yeah, bye Woo, that's my blonde, because.

Speaker 1:

Paul from Beaumont said so Good morning, it's the Morning Brew with Chris. Who's this Woo-woo? Yay, yay, everyone's favorite redneck from Beaumont, texas. It's Paul from Beaumont. How was your weekend? It was brutal, man, brutal, brutal, absolutely brutal. Why was it so brutal? Hey, we had to build a fence, oh, no, uh. So uh, ronda said she wanted a fence and instead of paying a professional to do it, she said paul, you're gonna do it. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Did you have, did you have, easy things to make, the, uh, the fence post diggers, or did you have to do it manually?

Speaker 3:

no, my jesse, he brought us a. He brought us a post hole auger. But I think that thing had bad gas in it and it wouldn't run right, but we still got them done and it sure beat the heck out of a post hole digger yeah, the uh.

Speaker 1:

That auger sounds a lot like you. It has bad gas in it.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, yeah, a lot of backfiring.

Speaker 1:

A lot of backfiring. Hey, today is Johnny Depp's birthday. He's 62.

Speaker 3:

That's your wife Rhonda's celebrity crush, right, yeah, I guess. So, man, what an old geezer.

Speaker 1:

Is Johnny Depp older or younger than you?

Speaker 3:

Dude. Come on bro. Of course he's older than me.

Speaker 1:

He's older. Well, I don't know exactly how old you are. My guess is you're 54? No, I'm fixing to be 56. Oh, 56. Okay, I was close. So Rhonda's into an older man. She even named your dog after one of Johnny Depp's characters, Gilbert. Does that ever make you jealous?

Speaker 3:

No, I'm not that type.

Speaker 1:

Well, how about when we come back we play a little. Are you Smarter Than a Redneck? Johnny Depp edition. See who knows more about Johnny Depp, you ready.

Speaker 3:

Speaker 1:

All right, paul. Today is your wife's celebrity crush's birthday, Johnny Depp. So we're going to do some Johnny Depp trivia. If you know the answer, say your name. That's your buzzer. Are you ready? Yeah, we'll see how much I listen to Rob. All right, what was Johnny Depp's first movie role? Was it A Edward Scissorhands?

Speaker 3:

On Johnny Depp's birthday, congratulations.

Speaker 3:

All right, buddy. Well good, Maybe I'll make Rhonda. Happy.

Speaker 1:

All right, buddy Drive safe and hopefully we'll talk to you tomorrow.

Speaker 1:

All right, buddy Y'all have a great day you too. Bye-bye, bye-bye, it is Monday, so you know what that means. It's time to get motivated with it. On this Motivational Monday, normally we talk to our friend Janine Ford, but she's not available today. She's so busy making some great content for her show, voice of the Mountain, on iTalk 1067 from 5 to 6, monday through Fridays. Check that out.

Speaker 1:

But here are some motivational quotes to help you get motivated for the week. Here we go. First quote is from Henry David Thoreau. He says I know of no more encouraging fact than the unquestionable ability of man to elevate his life by a conscious effort. Heck, yes, I do like that one. Denise Brennan Nelson says someday is not a day of the week. Someday is not a day of the week no, it is not.

Speaker 1:

Bruce Lee says a goal is not always meant to be reached. It often serves simply as something to aim at. Heck, yes, I love that one. Earl Nightingale said all you need is the plan, the roadmap and the courage to press on to your destination. And Kathleen Windsor says I have always thought the only genius that's worth anything is the genius for hard work. I love all those quotes, but I let our Facebook live pick the motivational quote for the day, since Janine wasn't available, and it is Bruce Lee, today's motivational quote. A goal is not always meant to be reached. It often serves simply as something to aim at. I love that. I saw a video this week that talked about aim higher than you think you should, because you might not hit where you're going, but even if you fall short, you're going to hit something amazing. So that is our motivational quote for the week Bruce Lee on Q Country 92.5.
