From Kenny Chesney to Casino Night: White Mountain Happenings

Chris Bennett Episode 49

Send us a text

Good deeds, local events, and a dash of country music bring the White Mountain community together in this heartwarming episode of Morning Brew. Hosts Chris Bennett and Jineane start with concert talk as Jineane shares how Kenny Chesney at the Sphere in Las Vegas has completely transformed her expectations for live music. "I don't know how I can ever go to another concert again without it being at the Sphere," she admits, describing fish jumping overhead and crystal-clear visuals that make every seat feel front-row.

The conversation shifts to uplifting news stories, highlighting 14-year-old Cody Chalmers who found a wallet containing $300 and tracked down its owner. His honesty inspired a stranger to purchase the $3,000 electric dirt bike he'd been saving for – proving integrity still pays dividends. Jineane contributes adorable viral animal stories, including a baby raccoon standing "like a little human" on a doorstep and police officers wrangling a massive 12-foot alligator from a North Carolina highway.

Community events take center stage with announcements about the Run to the Bridge in Pinedale (featuring Arizona's only operating bridge), the Show Low Main Street Casino Night fundraiser, and Chris's upcoming comedy shows throughout the summer. Local country artist Ashley Westcott calls in to promote her new single "Honky Tonk Holler," inspired by bikers at an Alpine tavern who proved first impressions can be misleading. The episode perfectly captures the spirit of small-town connection, where good news travels fast and neighbors support each other through shared experiences.

Speaker 1:

From the Horn Auto Center Studios Chris Bennett and the Morning Brew, janine. You over there? Yes, I am. Good morning, holy moly. Welcome back. You were back yesterday, but I didn't get to touch base with you. How was the Kenny Chesney concert at the Sphere in Las Vegas?

Speaker 2:

Oh, so much fun. I gotta tell you that was a blast. First of all, Kenny Chesney was amazing, Just amazing. He has so many hits and it was hard because he didn't play as many of the older ones that Clint wanted to hear, but it was really unreal. And the Sphere oh my gosh, the graphics and it being all around, it's just crazy. I don't know how I can ever go to another concert again without it being at the Sphere.

Speaker 1:

It's crazy. It ruined you for all other concerts.

Speaker 2:

It just ruined me. Oh, it was phenomenal. I mean you've got fish jumping over you. I mean it's all kinds of crazy stuff. It's just really cool.

Speaker 1:

You even told me the way, because you showed me some videos of it and it looked amazing. You even said there were times where they positioned Kenny on the stage and it looked like he was giving you a lap dance, right?

Speaker 2:

I'm not sure about that. I wouldn't say that at all. Yeah, yeah, exactly. No, he's so close.

Speaker 1:

He's so close, he's like right.

Speaker 2:

It's so clear and they're so close. Every seat in there is good because he's you know you can see the little stage down there below, but it doesn't matter, because he's all right in your face on this screen. It's so cool and he, he really puts on. Oh my gosh, he's good live, so good live.

Speaker 1:

Yeah.

Speaker 2:

Really good.

Speaker 1:

That's awesome. Not a bad seat in the house, no, no, I loved it so good. I'll have to check it out, but then again I'm scared because it might ruin all other concerts for me as well.

Speaker 2:

I know it's that good. It really is. It's incredible.

Speaker 1:

Well, Janine, did you know? There's only about three days left for people to vote for their favorite businesses in the White Mountain with the White Mountain Independence Best of Voting and I was nominated for Best Live Entertainment.

Speaker 2:

Oh yes, and so we've got to vote for.

Speaker 1:

Chris Bennett Comedy.

Speaker 2:

Yes.

Speaker 1:

I'm in great company All entertainment venues so it's an honor to be included in that. But everybody's been asking me, chris, when are you going to bring up some more shows? Well, janine, I have an announcement. Yes, we have july 26 at the elks lodge in show low is going to be my stand-up comedy birthday bash, with a lot of great friends joining me. August 22nd we're going to be at torian with headliner tom clark, who's been on conan oBrien, hbo, you name it. And then September 20th we're going to do a show in Pinedale, arizona, with Darren Carter, the party starter, who's been on the Tonight Show. So you'll have to come to at least one of those, janine. It's going to be a fun time.

Speaker 2:

Very cool, that is exciting yeah.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, a little good news to tease. Some more good news. All right, janine, it is Talk About Something Good Tuesday, so it's time for us to share some good news stories. I'll go first. Here we go. Okay, this story takes place in Chandler, arizona, my old haunting ground.

Speaker 1:

14-year-old Cody Chalmers proved that honesty really does pay. Cody Chalmers proved that honesty really does pay. He was riding his bike, janine, and he found a lost wallet containing $300 in cash, nice and credit cards. And even though he was saving up for an electric dirt bike, he didn't hesitate. Immediately he sent the photo of the ID to his mom, who tracked down the owner, and Cody told AZ Family I thought someone would feel really bad if they lost it, so I had to return it. He remembered how upset his dad had been when he lost his wallet years ago and Cody's mom shared the good deed on Facebook. And that's when another Good Samaritan stepped in and, inspired by Cody's honesty, the stranger purchased Cody the electric bike he had been saving for. That was over $3,000.

Speaker 1:

Whoa, yeah. Fittingly, the company that they bought the bikes from were called Integrity E-Bikes, and this young man has a lot of integrity. He's now writing in style with a story that reminds us that doing the right thing can lead to great things. That's awesome. What a good story. Good story. All right, janine, let's hear your good news story on this. Talk About Something Good Tuesday.

Speaker 2:

Minor little ones, cute little ones, because I really love the things that go viral that are just so cute. This one is great. It's from Massachusetts, okay, and it's animal control officers. They had a busy day and this is from Belchertown okay, Belchertown okay.

Speaker 2:

Belchertown in Massachusetts there was this little baby raccoon. He shows up on someone's doorstep and he just stands there. It looks like a photo shoot. I mean, he just doesn't leave the doorstep and he's standing like a little human. It is the cutest photo you have ever seen. He's standing on his hind legs. He looks like a little kid is what he looks like.

Speaker 2:

And so they rescued him and they also find this groundhog and it was tangled in this net inside a batting cage, like he was going to go play some sports or something you know, so they got him untangled. He's adorable and they both are at the wildlife with the wildlife rehabber now and they're they're in good hands, but just super, super cute rescues right there.

Speaker 2:

I really like that one and then the other um uh cool one is there was another one that went viral like crazy is a gigantic alligator in north carolina out in the middle of the highway and it took like four police officers. You can see them, they're all sitting on him. He's like the biggest. He's like like a 12-foot alligator or something. 400 pounds yeah, huge.

Speaker 4:

Yep.

Speaker 2:

So, there you go. And they got him all blindfolded, got him moved back to where he needs to be.

Speaker 1:

So it's kind of just cute animal stories yeah, cute animal stories on this. Talk About Something Good Tuesday. Good morning, it's the Morning Brew with Chris. Who's this Good morning Champion? Chris Heck, yeah, it's Brian from Pinedale. How are you doing on?

Speaker 6:

this Talk About.

Speaker 1:

Something Good Tuesday morning.

Speaker 6:

I'm doing really good and I got something to talk about. Oh, what do you have to talk about? Join Run to the Bridge in Pinedale, arizona.

Speaker 1:

Run to the Bridge in Pinedale, Arizona. When is this and what is this?

Speaker 6:

Okay, it is a only operating bridge in the state of Arizona, the Pinedale Bridge, correct. And we do a run. It's a 10K, 5k, one mile, half mile and quarter mile for the little kids, nice. And they start at different points and they run to the bridge where they get their times checked in, and then we go to the community center, the pavilion outside, we have breakfast for everybody that races and all the volunteers, and we give out the honors and ribbons and awards and guess who's going to host that?

Speaker 1:

Who's going to host the awards ceremony? Mr?

Speaker 6:

Chris Bennett.

Speaker 1:

Heck yeah, I'm so excited for this. And how much does it cost to sign up to do the event?

Speaker 6:

I think it's $20. $20.

Speaker 1:

And all funds go towards what the Pinedale Community Center. And the Pinedale Community Center is a historic building. It's where we filmed Small Town, famous my comedy special, and it's a really, really cool building and it's available to rent for events and so this fund just goes to keeping up this great historical building up here in the White Mountains.

Speaker 6:

Now, if anybody wants to get involved with this or still wants to raise, I've got a phone number, All right 928-231-7233. And she can give you all the info. The times the 10Ks we start at 6 am because it gets warm and we don't want them racing in the heat, and all the other races start at 6.30 am.

When you were a kid, no, no, when I started running around with my wife doing art shows and stuff across the country, because you learn to see people all over the country, yeah, and some of my best friends are from that time, me too, I would agree with you.

Speaker 1:

I think I'd want to relive my favorite road trip. Would you rather tell your 25 year old self one piece of advice, or get advice from your 85-year-old future self?

Speaker 6:

I think I'd rather do the 25-year-old Really.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, I don't know. With age comes wisdom. I would want to know what my 85-year-old self has for me. I think.

Speaker 6:

Well, that comes with dementia, with that too.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, would you rather bring back your first car or your favorite song on vinyl?

Speaker 6:
