Good mornings start with great conversations! This week's Morning Brew delivers heartwarming stories, local updates, and plenty of laughs from our favorite callers across the mountain communities.

We kick things off with Virgil the Cowboy from Eagar, who shares details about his busy Fourth of July weekend moving horses and his unconventional dental hygiene routine that had us all chuckling. When it comes to Global Forgiveness Day, Virgil proves to be the most forgiving person we know—nothing seems to ruffle this cowboy's feathers!

The celebration continues as Paul from Beaumont, Texas recounts an emotional proposal that happened on his birthday. His son Carson surprised girlfriend Nikki with help from their young son Knox, who wore a special shirt asking, "Will you marry my daddy?" Paul's marriage advice? Simply "Don't be jerks"—wisdom that's hard to argue with.

Between games like "Real Dive or Real Lie" for National Dive Bar Day and "Are You Smarter Than a Redneck" featuring chocolate trivia, we get serious with Jineane's news update on the devastating flooding in Texas and the Lucy Canyon fire closer to home. Our brave firefighters have made significant progress building containment lines, Thank you to all the brave Firefighters.

We wrap up with our Monday Motivational Quote from Will Rogers: "Don't let yesterday take up too much of today." As Jineane wisely points out, none of us should carry around our "stinky trash" from the past. It's time to throw it away and move forward.

Subscribe to the Morning Brew for your daily dose of community stories, useful information, and the friendly conversations that make mornings better. How are you leaving yesterday behind today?

Speaker 1:

From the Horn Auto Center Studios Chris Bennett and the Morning Brew. Good morning, it's the Morning Brew with Chris. Who's this?

Speaker 2:

Hey, good morning, my friend.

Speaker 1:

Heck, yes, it's Virgil, the Cowboy from Eager. How was your 4th of July weekend? Busy, busy. What did you do?

Speaker 2:

Ran around all over the place.

Speaker 1:

Like ranching or just having fun. Yeah out, ranching, ranching, moving the horses. Are the cowgirls already out on the range?

Speaker 2:

Oh yeah, they were gone ever since this morning.

Speaker 1:

Oh, heck, yeah. What about the cowboys? They haven't showed up yet. Gosh, dang it. What are you going to do the rest of your day? I'm wearing my pajamas, your pajamas, what?

Speaker 2:

My pajamas.

Speaker 1:

What do you have on your pajamas? Do you have, like Mickey Mouse on it, any patterns?

Speaker 2:

Yeah, Mickey Mouse.

Speaker 1:

Nice. Hey, today is Global Forgiveness Day, so I want to play a quick game with you, called Forgive or Forget. Let me know they sang over the good part of your favorite country song while you were trying to listen to it. Forgive them or forget them. Forgive, forgive, oh, you're very forgiving. I would forget them. They spoiled the ending of your favorite show. You told them you just started watching. Forgive them or forget them. Forgive them. They spoiled the ending of your favorite show you told them you just started watching. Forgive them or forget them. Forgive them, forgive them. Yeah, I imagine you would forgive everyone. Let me find one thing that maybe you wouldn't forgive them. They used your toothbrush at your house and said oh, it just looked just like mine. Forgive them or forget them.

Speaker 2:

I don't have a toothbrush.

Speaker 1:

No, you don't ever brush your teeth. No, no. What do you do to keep your mouth fresh? Use a toothpaste, just toothpaste on your finger. Yeah, nice, is there any like cowboy toothbrush type thing you use? Or just your finger, just your finger toothbrush type thing you use? Or just your finger, just your fingers.

Speaker 2:

So if they did use your toothbrush.

Speaker 1:

They would actually be using your finger. So if they did that, do you forgive them or forget them? Forgive them, oh, forgive them. Virgil is a forgiving dude. It's everyone's favorite redneck from Beaumont, texas. It's Paul from Beaumont, buddy. Fourth of July was your birthday. How was it?

Speaker 2:

Oh man, it was a trip. I mean, it don't happen like that all the time.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, like what do you mean? Like my nanny went.

Speaker 2:

Jesse went, I got one year older. I think I got a new daughter-in-law because Carson proposed to Nikki.

Speaker 1:

Yeah. So on your birthday the 4th of July, your son, who's been with Nikki they have a beautiful son together he proposed to her. How did that go down?

Speaker 2:

It was surprising for her. I was going to surprise him and tell him I left the ring at the house. Did you really I was?

Speaker 1:

going to. Oh, that's not nice, but I was going to. He's already nervous enough asking the woman he loves to spend the rest of her life with him, and you were going to make it just a little bit more stressful for him.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, yeah, I was going to let him hold out for about a day or two.

Speaker 1:

That's cool. Did he wait until the fireworks were going off and then got down on one knee? Did he do it in front of the whole family? Give us a little recap.

Speaker 2:

He did it in front of everybody. We waited for her parents to get there. They didn't know either. Rhonda made a little Knox's shirt. We were taking family pictures. She made him a little shirt and said Will you marry my daddy? And he put him down and let his shirt kind of open. He dropped down and she was like, oh my God, yeah, it went down just the way it usually does, and she said, yes, there we go.

Speaker 1:

That's the most important part. So cool man, congratulations. What advice do you have to Carson and Nikki as they get ready to get married and start a life together?

Speaker 2:

Don't be jerks.

Speaker 1:

That's right. Be nice to each other. Yeah don't be jerks. Don't be jerks. All right, paul, today is National Dive Bar Day. You a big fan of dive bars? Yeah, I kind of like them. But this weekend you just stayed at your vacation house and turned that into your own little dive bar.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, we dove all week.

Speaker 1:

Well, for National Dive Bar Day, I thought we'd play a game called Real Dive or Real Live. I'm going to read four bar names to you. You got to tell me which one is the Real Dive bar. You ready? Okay, all right, here we go. A the Wet Sock, b Snake and Jake's Christmas Club Lounge. C the Dented Can or D Tipsy Tumble Inn, which is a.

Speaker 2:

Real Dive bar I think it was the last one.

Speaker 1:

The Tipsy Tumble Inn. Yeah, no, no, it's Snake and Jake's Christmas Club Lounge in New Orleans, louisiana. All right, next one the Laughing Possum, whiskey and Wrenches. The Dirty Shame or Gator Tooth Tavern.

Speaker 2:

Oh man, these names are so confusing.

Speaker 1:

Well, the Gator Tooth Tavern sounds fun. That sounds like a place I would definitely check out, but that is not one of them, it's either.

Speaker 2:

All these names are just like long.

Speaker 1:

It's either the Laughpossum Whiskey and Wrenches or the Dirty Shame, which is the real one. I'm going to go with B B Whiskey and Wrenches no, it's a Dirty Shame in Custer Montana. And last one, here we go the Slippery Boot, the Monkey Bar, captain's Greasy Pub Bit or the Broken Mug, broken Mug, broken Mug, nope, nope. The Monkey Bar is the real dive bar. That was real dive bar or real live. It is now time for. Are you Smarter Than a Redneck? With our favorite redneck, paul from Beaumont, today is chocolate day, so we're going to do a little chocolate trivia. Are you ready? Let's do this? All right, which is the unhealthiest type of chocolate? Milk chocolate, dark chocolate or white chocolate? Chris Paul, I'm going to say milk chocolate. Incorrect, no, paul, what's your guess?

Speaker 2:

White chocolate.

Speaker 1:

Is it white chocolate? Yeah, was that your nickname in high school? No man, all right, white chocolate, all right. Next one when is 70% of the world's chocolate grown? Is it India, brazil, west Africa or Mexico? Paul, paul, brazil, brazil, no, I'm going to say West Africa. It is West Africa, holy moly. And last question we're tied at one apiece. This will determine who's smarter. Which of the following is not a health benefit of eating dark chocolates? Is it muscle growth? Increased blood flow in the body promotes healthy memory, or high in antioxidants? Paul, paul, a Muscle growth. That's what I was going to say. You are correct. Chocolate has health benefits. Or dark chocolate can help you with increased blood flow, promotes healthy memory and high in antioxidants. So go get yourself a dark chocolate bar today, paul.

Speaker 2:

No, dark chocolate tastes nasty.

Speaker 1:

It does taste nasty, but that's why it's the healthiest one for you.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, yeah, exactly yeah, yeah, hey. Maybe I ought to do that with my grandkids.

Speaker 1:

Oh yeah, Heck yeah. There you go Well, Paul, congratulations. You're smarter than a very handsome radio DJ. We love you, buddy, and hope you have a great rest of your day. Drive safe out there, hey y'all have a great day.

Speaker 2:

We'll talk to y'all tomorrow because, guess what, what? I ain't on vacation. No more, yee.

Speaker 1:

Janine, you over there? Yes.

Speaker 3:

I am. How are you? This morning I'm doing great.

Speaker 1:

I was wondering if you could give us a Janine Ford news update. I know there's a lot of stuff going on in the world, sad stuff, and you also have an update on the Lucy Canyon fire. Go ahead and give us the news.

Speaker 3:

Well, the biggest thing, of course, our thoughts and prayers. Everyone is thinking about Texas and the bad thing is more severe weather's heading toward them, as, of course, the state's reeling from the deadly flooding. It's so sad. I mean there are still 40 more people missing on top of the 80, some that have been pronounced dead, and, of course, those campers, all those young girls. I just can't imagine what those parents are going through, those families, and I mean to face 20-some feet of water suddenly over 45 minutes. They came down the Guadalupe River, unbelievable. So again, more three flash flood advisories for that area today. So it's going to be a long, hard day. We need to all say our prayers for them Closer to home.

Speaker 3:

Concerning the Lucy Canyon fire yeah, it still looks like it. It's still at about 60, some acres 0% containment. This is about 12 to 14 miles south of Sholo and it's in those deep canyons, very deep canyons, but they've made significant progress as of the last update. They have successfully built a line at the head of the fire. Air resources were really really busy in suppression efforts yesterday. So again, it looks like they are holding that fire at Lucy Canyon and we'll be watching that as well locally, chris.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, yes, well, thank you so much to our brave firefighters tackling that. And again our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone in Texas. All right, Janine, how was your weekend? Give us a little recap on Janine's magical fourth weekend.

Speaker 3:

It was so awesome. Yeah, we went out and we camped at X Diamond Ranch in Eager and attended. We went to the parade and rodeo in Springerville Eager and I got to tell you, Springerville Eager, they still have the small town Fourth of July parade, the candy's all over in the streets and it's just a blast and the rodeo is incredible and you know what? It's a small town and it's awesome, Just awesome. Yeah, we had so much fun.

Speaker 1:

That's great.

Speaker 3:

The kids had a blast, had the grandkids, yeah, it was fun. Oh, and one other update from me. I had my cameras course going in a stall, my sweet neighbor Kelly watching the donkey on Donkey Watch Still no baby.

Speaker 1:

Still no baby, still no baby. Yeah, donkey Watch 2025.

Speaker 3:

Fat Haley yeah.

Speaker 1:

Fat Haley, you can't call her that. You mean that's not nice.

Speaker 3:

Addie's seven years old. She's like Grandma, she looks like kind of one of those. Is it a blimp? And I go, yeah, yeah, grandma, she looks like kind of one of those.

Speaker 1:

Is it a blimp? And I go. Yeah, poor Haley, I hope you have your baby soon. Yeah, I had a fun weekend too. There's so many great events on the mountain on the 4th and I got to do the parade for the city of Show Low. Sweet, yeah, oh, janine, everyone, well, big shout out to the city of Show Low and Show Low TV. They had a great broadcast coverage of it that I got to co-host, and so many people went all out with their floats. I feel like it just got bigger and better. So some really great floats this weekend, and then after the parade, I just slept the rest of the weekend.

Speaker 3:

That's all I did. Oh nice, yeah, recovered. Yeah, yeah, yes.

Speaker 1:

But yeah, it was a great weekend and happy 4th to everyone and the fireworks were amazing. How were the fireworks out in Springerville?

Speaker 3:

Unreal, unbelievable. You could see just a chain of cars coming out and they have them at the airport there. They were incredible. Yeah just beautiful fireworks. So, yeah, everything went off great and people were safe. I mean, we have the lucy canyon fire, but you know it's at 62 uh acres that they're keeping. So we've had a really pretty good, pretty safe weekend. Everybody, hey guys, you did good out there you know, stuff was put out fast and they're trying to just get that one and they seem to have a good handle on it.

Speaker 1:

So yeah, way to go to our first responders. We love you. All right, Janine, it's time to get motivated on this Monday morning. You ready? Yes, I am All right. Here's your first quote from Maria Robinson. Nobody can go back and start a new beginning, but anyone can start today and make a new ending.

Speaker 3:

Nice, that was good Did.

Speaker 2:

I do good. Yeah, I like it Okay heck yeah.

Speaker 1:

There you go. I wasn't a stupid idiot. Tina Fey said confidence is 10% hard work and 90% delusion. I kind of like that one. I think it's true too. Go forward, Get your delusion, it's okay. I like that, let's see. Will Rogers said don't let yesterday take up too much of today.

Speaker 2:

I think that's a good reminder for people Move on.

Speaker 1:

Theodore Roosevelt said when you are asked if you can do a job, tell them certainly I can Then get busy and find out how to do it. Nice, I do that all the time. Oh, yeah, I know how to do that. Let's go ahead and check out ChatGPT. Ella Fitzgerald said don't give up trying to do what you really want to do. Where there is love and inspiration, I don't think you can go wrong. Oh, I love that one. Oh, you don't like that one.

Speaker 3:

It's okay, a little goopy, but it's okay. Well, I like the goopy. It's like no duh.

Speaker 1:

I like rom-coms. Okay, and last one is from Henry David Thoreau. He says I know of no more encouraging fact that the unquestionable ability of man to elevate his life by a conscious effort.

Speaker 3:

That's a good one too. All right, which one is our quote for the week I want to go with Roy Rogers because or Will Rogers, will Rogers, sorry, will Rogers. The thing about Will Rogers I mean in that quote is that too many of of us yesterday gets in the way always of today. In a lot of heads People don't throw the trash away. You don't carry around your stinky trash all day long. Right Picture carrying around on your back anything from the past. Yeah, throw it away, move on.

Speaker 1:

Heck. Yeah, it's healthy. Yeah, our Monday motivational quote for the day Will Rogers, don't let yesterday take up too much of today. Janine, you are the best.

Speaker 3:

Hope you have a great day best friend, you too have a good one, chris.

Speaker 1:

Thank you, thank you, bye, all righty bye-bye.
