SPEAKER_03:

From the Horn Auto Center Studios, Chris Bennett and the Morning Brew. Good morning, it's the Morning Brew with Chris. Who's this? Well, good morning, Chris Bennett. This is your best friend, Kirk Nermey. Holy moly, Kirk Nermi upright and early. To what do I owe the honor of your call this morning?

SPEAKER_04:

Well, Chris, I saw this major breaking news and you're shaving your beard, and I had to follow up with some very important questions.

SPEAKER_03:

Yes, I shaved my beard for my comedy shows tonight, tomorrow night, and Thursday night down in the valley for the Dead Comedian Show, where I am uh performing as Robin Williams, so the beard had to go. Yes. What are your questions?

SPEAKER_04:

Well, did you inform the mayor's office before you shaved your beard?

SPEAKER_03:

No, no, I didn't notify my HOE either. I didn't know I didn't know.

SPEAKER_04:

Well, you're gonna turn the whole city of Solo upside down without notifying the mayor's office. You went from you went from town bad boy to town heartblock, and you don't think that's gonna cause me to ups in the town?

SPEAKER_03:

Man, I'm telling you, I look at I forget that I shave my beard and I'll look at myself or my reflection and I scare myself uh half the time. And then it's funny to go around uh town and to see people's reaction and uh based on people's initial reaction, as soon as these shows are over, the beard is coming right back. Oh no, but how do you feel about it? How do I feel about uh not having do you enjoy the clean shaven or do you miss your beard? I hate it. I hate it, I hate it. I I miss my beard. I feel I feel look, I I look like a piece of uh clay that a sculptor hasn't finished sculpting yet, especially around the neck. It just looks like it just looks like a bunch of uh clay that hasn't been molded or chiseled yet. So I am not a fan of the no beard, and the beard is coming back as soon as I'm able to.

SPEAKER_04:

Well, what does Mrs. Chris say about this?

SPEAKER_03:

Uh you know what? Uh, if you don't have something nice to say, you don't say anything at all. So she really hasn't said anything.

SPEAKER_04:

I would I would think, because you kind of went from biker movie to Hallmark movie, that you might like that. You might like the sensitive, clean shaven Chris.

SPEAKER_03:

That's a good point. Maybe she's too embarrassed to tell you. Maybe. I don't know. Yeah, that's a good point. Maybe I get into some uh Hallmark uh Christmas movies. She'd love that.

SPEAKER_04:

That's right. The sensitive side of Chris.

SPEAKER_03:

No, no, no, starring, sensitive Chris. That's right. Uh well, awesome. Kirk Nermi, thanks so much for calling in, best friend. We love you. Anything new with you?

SPEAKER_04:

All right, no, ma'am, but I still think you better notify the mayor's office. It could cause a lot of chaos around here.

SPEAKER_03:

I will. Everyone, be aware. I have shaved my beard. Do not get scared. I should probably let my mom and dad know because I'm staying at their house tonight. I don't want to scare them. All right, buddy, we love you. All right, bye, buddy. I am so happy to have a guest in studio, Principal Marchant. He is the principal of Sho Low High School, here to talk about next step nights uh that is happening uh this Thursday at Solo High School, right? That is correct. Heck yeah, what is uh next step nights and who's invited and why should the students and the parents come on Thursday?

SPEAKER_01:

Yeah, well, we've uh we've been doing this uh every year now for the last three or four years, and the whole idea is to just combine uh a career fair with our parent-teacher conferences. So while while everyone is, you know, all the parents and students are coming in to speak with their teachers and uh you know hear what's going on in class, they can also continue that conversation into talking with local career vendors from all 16 career clusters. I mean we've got we've got uh upwards of 70 different career vendors, um, at least one in each of the 16 career clusters. So uh whatever whatever next step uh our students have, we've got someone for them to chat with and learn about their career.

SPEAKER_03:

It's such a great event because I know, you know, when I was in high school, you're kind of lost. You don't know, like, oh, you know, what am I going to do after high school? You don't really know what your options are. And this is a great night where you have a bunch of local businesses there, you have colleges there, and uh students can learn about possible careers they didn't even know were an option.

SPEAKER_01:

Yeah. Yeah, and you don't want to wait to the last minute. You know, you don't you don't want to be sitting there uh walking across the stage at graduation and then go, all right, what do I do now? Right, exactly. So um, and you know, we as we've all experienced, it it's not a uh, you know, you graduate and then you start in a career and that's what you do the rest of your life. I mean, sometimes, sometimes that works. Right, right, right. But uh, but most people uh have multiple different careers, and so it's good to get exposure to as many things as possible as early as possible. Um and then not to mention all the all the research is is showing that uh the best way to motivate kids, especially right now in this uh in this generation, is to get them tied in to seeing that light at the end of the tunnel. Why do I need to know math? Why do I need to know English and social studies and why would I need to take any of these CTE programs? Um and if they have that light at the end of the tunnel and they think, okay, well, I do want to be an architect, that looks exciting. Um, now it ties in why the math is important and why all of these things are important. And so uh it can it can not only help you with your next steps, but it can help you with your current steps uh and being successful in the classes you're already in.

SPEAKER_03:

What other things uh are gonna be happening at this next steps night?

SPEAKER_01:

Is there any food? Yeah, absolutely. Um we try to do everything possible to bring everyone everyone out. You know, this is this is our one big Super Bowl, if you will, of the year uh short of graduation. That's the that's a big exciting moment uh there. But yeah, this next steps night, we try to get every single parent and student out. That's our goal. Um, and so we've got the uh jazz band playing outside. Uh so you if you want to hear some students play some good music, they'll be playing outside on your way in. We've got uh several food trucks outside, so just bring the family, get some dinner, uh listen to some music, head on in, and uh touch bass with all the teachers that you that you want to talk to. And like I said, there will be about 70 different career vendors that uh and colleges uh that that you can connect with.

SPEAKER_03:

So yeah, so if you uh uh so it's open to all Solo High School students, freshmen through senior.

SPEAKER_01:

Correct. And actually we've we've opened this up in years past and had some students attend as well. But if you're from any of our you know neighboring schools down from Mogion or Blue Ridge or Snowflake, and uh and you're hearing this and your student wants to come and and talk to some different career people, absolutely please come and uh and yeah, you can visit with different career vendors. It wouldn't do you much good to talk to our teachers at the parent teacher conference. Right. You could you could show up and really you know mess with them. Like, yeah, how's how's Billy Williams doing in third hour? Uh that'd be fun. But uh, but yeah, you're you're welcome from any neighboring school to come and uh talk to the career vendors as well.

SPEAKER_03:

Yeah, it's a a great chance for you to kind of gain some uh clarity and kind of decide what you want to do. It is the fourth annual fall next steps night happening at Solo High School this Thursday, October 30th, 4 30 to 6 30 p.m. It is a free event. If you want more information, you can email Krista.rask at Solo.education or Diane.young at SHOLO.education for more information. Thank you so much for coming in, uh, Principal Marchant. And uh I'm looking forward uh to this uh great night. Thank you so much. Thanks for having me again. Good morning. It's the morning brew with Chris. Who's this? Bella. Bella, are you calling to win the two tickets to our comedy show this Saturday night at the Sholo Elch Lodge? Compliments of our friends over at Mountain Mobile Autoglass Intent. Heck yeah. Heck yeah. All you have to do is uh talk about something good on this talk about something good Tuesday.

SPEAKER_02:

All the proceeds stay on the mountain and go to our local Catholic charities where they divvy out the money to help local families in need.

SPEAKER_03:

You know it. Janine, you over there? Yes, I am. Woo! Heck yes. How are you doing on this talk about something good Tuesday?

SPEAKER_00:

I don't have any, but that's okay.

SPEAKER_03:

What's your favorite Halloween candy?

SPEAKER_00:

You know what I love? I just looked at the list, and it's so funny because everything is chocolate until you get to number 10. There's only one, and that's Starburst that makes the top 10. Isn't that interesting?

SPEAKER_03:

Oh, yeah, that is interesting. Uh, Janine, I'm uh stressing out. Why?

SPEAKER_00:

Well yeah, Robin Williams. Yes.

SPEAKER_03:

Oh my gosh. I'm doing uh these dead comedian shows, part of like a Halloween thing down in the valley. I'll be at Desert Ridge Improv tonight. Tomorrow night I'll be in Chandler at Mic Drop, and then Thursday I'm gonna be at Stir Crazy Comedy Club, and all the comedians on the lineup have been assigned a dead comedian, and you gotta do their act. And I'm doing Robin Williams and Pressure Baby.

SPEAKER_00:

Uh oh, the greatest.

SPEAKER_03:

Robin Williams. I haven't been this nervous for a show probably since the first time I ever did stand up. I'm just uh uh I'm worried I'm gonna forget things, but he was just so talented and big shoes to fill.

SPEAKER_00:

So Oh, you're gonna do great with it.

SPEAKER_03:

It's gonna be a lot of fun.

SPEAKER_00:

Shaved for it, you've gone all out.

SPEAKER_03:

What are you wearing? Uh so I I'm dressing like his uh Morkin Mindy days in the 70s. Yes, yes. So I have the uh rainbow suspenders, uh uh old seven.

SPEAKER_00:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03:

Yeah. And then just regular pants. And so, and then uh I got some uh extra hair for my chest and extra hair for my arms. There you go. Because he was very hairy.

unknown:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03:

What about you? Anything new with you?

SPEAKER_00:

Nothing new with me, except I'm having the last little surgery on my leg from my horse kick. Yeah, this Friday. On Halloween, they're gonna operate on my my lovely leg. Yeah, no, it's it's going very well. This should be the last little bit. Oh, no. Skin graft time. So very scary for Halloween. Yes, very scary.

SPEAKER_03:

Well, I hope everything goes well, best friend.

SPEAKER_00:

So you will be gone and we'll be thinking about you. You're gonna have to call in and let us know how the Robin Williams tour is going. Yeah, that's very exciting.

SPEAKER_03:

I'll let you know. If anybody's in the valley, you could go to Chris Bennettcomedy.com and see where I'm performing and get your tickets. It is now time for some good news on this talk about something good Tuesday. Janine, do you want me to go first? Yes, please. All right, here we go.

SPEAKER_00:

Because I'm never ready. I'm just kidding.

SPEAKER_03:

Well, uh uh this good news story comes from Mountain Lakes, New Jersey, where an 80-year-old Natalie Gradbow proved it's never too late to start something new. Earlier this month, Natalie became the oldest woman ever to finish the Iron Man World Championship in Hawaii. Holy moly. That's 2.4 mile swim, 120-mile bike ride, and a 26.2 mile marathon. And what makes this more amazing, Janine, is Natalie didn't even know how to swim until she was 60. So she had uh competitors that were younger than 60, kept dropping out, she kept going, crossing the finish line, and after 16 hours and 45 minutes, and her coach calls her the definition of grit and gratitude. And Natalie says she hopes her story inspires others to push a little farther than they think they can, because as she puts it, it's never about when you start, it's about enjoying the journey to the finish line. I love that. So that is my good news story for the day. All right, Janine, I'm ready for your good news story on this talk about something good Tuesday.

SPEAKER_00:

Well, I love this, and it's going viral. You guys need to watch the video to this one. Okay, it's an eighth grader in California. His name is Kevin Tang, and he was just named America's Top Young Scientist. I mean, he's just a kid, and it came to him in uh just this year, 2025. He invented um an item. It's called Fall Guard, uh, for by his because of his grandmother. Fall Guard, it uses cameras, just basic cameras and AI to detect if someone falls and needs help. You don't even have to say, I've fallen and I can't get up. AI does it for you. The title that he just got comes with a$25,000 grand prize. So huge can congrats to Kevin Tang. But you need to look up the video of Fall Guard, a real-time fall detection system. It is super cool. AI is just like, oh, oh, she's not getting up. Okay, get her, help, help, and calls, yeah, calls for you. It's really cool. Oh, nice. Fall Guard. Yeah, look up that video. I think that's cool.

SPEAKER_03:

That is really cool.

SPEAKER_00:

Great kids, and he just looks like he's 10 years old, you know.

SPEAKER_03:

Uh modern day doogie housing. There you go. Awesome. Well, that was our good news on this talk about something good Tuesday. Janine, I'll miss you the rest of the week, but I'll be uh checking in, let you know how the uh comedy shows go down and back.

SPEAKER_00:

You're gonna do so good. Thanks, best robin. All right, have a good one. All right, you too. Bye bye. Bye.
