Welcome And Today’s Lineup

SPEAKER_01

Hello, it's Chris Bennett from The Morning Brew with Chris Bennett and Best Friends, and here is today's show. It's Relationship Advice Thursday. We got some juicy relationship situations to break down. Plus, JD Pepper joins us from the Timber Mesa Fire Department for his Fire Marshal Minute. And uh we have a little fun with legal or illegal. Uh here you go, best friends. From the Horn Auto Center Studios, Chris Bennett and the Morning Brew. It is now time for relationship advice. And again, today we have not one, but two relationship advice experts, Janine Ford and Steve Carvajal. I'll read the story and then we'll get your advice. You guys ready? We're ready. All right.

SPEAKER_04

Wait.

SPEAKER_01

Here we go. Um I, 20-year-old uh male, have known my girlfriend, 21-year-old female, basically my whole life. Our families are close. We started dating in high school, and I honestly thought I was gonna marry her. Recently I moved away for college, but I still came back to see her whenever I could. Then a couple of weeks ago, I visited and she sat me down and told me she wants an open relationship. Mmm. That completely blindsided me. I'm not into that at all. I believe relationships should be monogamous. Then I asked if she had someone in mind, and she said, yes. Oh my gosh. I got upset and I'll admit that. I ended things and left. Now my family is telling me I should talk to her and hear her out. But I feel like she's crossed a line. How do I know if it's worth sitting down and talking it out like they want me to? You want to go first, Steve?

SPEAKER_00

You want me to go first? You go ahead. You go ahead. Okay, first of all, uh, I wouldn't be listening to my family on this one. I'm wondering what kind of family he comes from. But the big thing, this he has to see it for what it is. He could say to her, hey, we have a relationship, it'll be much like friends, you know. Do whatever you want, I'll do whatever I want. But we will never be in a serious relationship, obviously, right? Because an open relationship is just doing everyone and everything, and so what? You know what I mean? Right. So to me, I'd put on my track shoes because he's only 20. There are so many great people out there. Go find somebody that's decent, you know. And if she wants to mess around and do her thing, let her do her thing. Or he could be in it and just know what it is. Know that he's not really in a relationship with her. They're kind of friends with benefits or something, you know?

SPEAKER_04

Well, you know, I when I But it's not gonna last. No, no, no. It has zero chance of lasting. Right. Because when he asked her, Do you have anybody in mind? And she said yes, we have to assume that she's looking at his brother or her dad or his dad. So I mean, this is just horrible. And that's why they want to keep it in the valley, in the family. Oh, you know? Oh, I didn't even go there.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, because he said the family, that's right, wants him to get back with her.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, that's gotta read between the lines. That is interesting.

SPEAKER_00

Hope not. Oh, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Oh my gosh.

SPEAKER_00

I would put my trackshoes on, maybe put a little distance between. Yeah, and maybe stay away from your family a little bit too, and just say, what the hell's going on with you guys? Yeah, that's just weird. Take a break. Fight a real track shoes on. Yeah, trackshoes on, yeah, exactly.

SPEAKER_01

There's no way I could be in an open relationship. I don't even like sharing my fries.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. And when he said, Yeah, exactly, sharing your fries. And when he said, Um, do you have somebody in mind? My first mind went to, my first thought went to when he's away at college, she's already been with that person. Right. She's wanting to include that person into their relationship. Yeah. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

But yeah, I didn't even think about Steve's angle that maybe it's someone in his family, and that's why his family's like, hey, hear out, man.

SPEAKER_04

I do tend to come from the most disgusting areas you could believe. Sorry, folks. I mean, it's just, yeah, things is what they is.

SPEAKER_00

That is just awful. Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Track shoes.

SPEAKER_01

Get your track shoes. That's right. Uh today's relationship advice brought to you by New Balance Running Shoes. Put those on and run. Thanks so much. Beep, buddy. Beep, beep. All right, you guys are the best. Thanks so much. Have a good one. You too. Bye. Love you. Bye-bye. Love you.

Wildfire Prep And Home Safety

unknown

Bye.

SPEAKER_01

Good morning. It's the morning brew with Chris. Who's this?

SPEAKER_03

Hey, good morning, Chris. It's JD.

SPEAKER_01

JD Pepper, our Fire Marshal with Timber Mesa Fire Department. And that must mean one thing. It's time for our Fire Marshal minute. What you got for us?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, it is, buddy. Hey guys out there, it's uh starting to get warm. Um, if you haven't already started thinking about getting out on the weekends or whenever you can out in your your yards or your property um to get those get those uh biofuels, your biofuels in your yards. That's your wood and your the small brush and stuff like that that are that are uh creating ladder fuels. Um let's get those cleaned up, you know. Um get that five-foot space, that defensible space between your home and your the brush that's in your yard or your plants. I know uh like a lot of people like to let me know myself and my wife, we we like our we like our plants and stuff out there by out in front of the house, but uh I'm sure everybody out there is probably facing some insurance challenges, and those insurance companies want to have that five-foot defensible space. If you create that space between your home and the the brush or the grass or anything that's combustible, you're gonna give yourself, you know, your just just that five feet is over a 20% chance of your home not catching fire during a wildfire event or an or a fire that rolls through our through our community here, right? Um we are doing pretty good on our moisture so far because we had some had some good rains this winter. Uh we didn't get the snow, and that translates into downstream, right? The watershed. Uh, but we but here in our area we we are over our average on rain, actually, um, which is why we aren't are not in uh fire restrictions right now. I don't know if we'll go into restrictions uh probably this month, but I I would expect that if it keeps going the way it is with warm temperatures and our winds are gonna start picking up, we're gonna go into that next month. Um change your smoke alarm batteries, guys. If you need any kind of inspections, please give us a call. As well as check our check out our social media website uh for for any any fire prevention tips and stuff that you can do around your home. Uh and as usual, again, as I said, if you need an inspection, give me a call. They're always free to our our uh our residents.

SPEAKER_01

And what is that number?

SPEAKER_03

Uh our phone number here at Timber Mesa Fire is 928-537-5100, and you can ask for the fire prevention division.

SPEAKER_01

There you go. You heard it from JD Pepper himself. Let's create five feet of space and uh keep ourselves safe and keep our community safe as well. Thank you so much, JD, for everything you do and the Timber Mesa Fire Department and all our firefighters and first responders out there. We're so grateful for you guys.

Legal Or Illegal Rapid Questions

SPEAKER_03

You bet. We love our community.

SPEAKER_01

We are back with JD Pepper, and today is Legal Assistance Day. So, JD, I thought we'd play a fun game called Legal or Illegal. Uh, you tell me if uh these things are legal or illegal. You ready? We'll see if I can stump you.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

All right.

SPEAKER_03

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

Is it legal to keep a pet squirrel?

SPEAKER_03

No.

SPEAKER_01

No, it is not. Very good. There you go. I would think it would be legal, but it is illegal.

SPEAKER_03

You can't assume a squirrel like we have around here running around our woods, but something like a, I don't know, uh a chinchilla.

SPEAKER_01

Uh is it illegal to drive barefoot?

SPEAKER_03

No.

SPEAKER_01

It is illegal to drive barefoot?

SPEAKER_03

No, it's not.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, it's legal to drive barefoot, right? A lot of people a lot of people think that it's illegal. I thought it was illegal too. But you can't drive barefoot, but it's probably not a good idea, right?

SPEAKER_03

Uh, but I mean I don't think it makes any difference, honestly.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, it doesn't? Okay. Uh, is it uh legal to film in public without permission?

SPEAKER_03

Yes.

SPEAKER_01

It is, it's legal. Gosh, he knows everything. Uh how about is it legal to marry your cousin? Which state? Cousin loving. Um well, let's let's go broad. Let's go uh all over the United States.

SPEAKER_03

Some states uh yeah, I I I think it is as long as you're uh over the age of consent of whatever state you're in, I believe that's right.

SPEAKER_01

Do you want to hear a cool song I came up about uh marrying your cousin? Yeah, I'd love it. Cousin lovin' happen so fast, cousin loving, having a blast. And last one, is it illegal to prank call 911? Yes, yes, it is. Do not do that. Do not, do not do that. That was don't do that. Don't do that. That was legal or illegal with our best friend JD Pepper, Fire Marshal with the Timber Mesa Fire Department. JD, thanks for calling in with your Fire Marshal Minute and for having a little fun with us. Hope you guys have a great day.

SPEAKER_03

You bet. Have a good one, guys. Be safe.

Chores Conflict And Breaking Points

SPEAKER_01

All right. Bye. On the phone, I have our best friend from Sho Lo. It's Dave Ramsey, star of Boo or Cool. But today, he's gonna help us with a little bonus relationship advice. Do you consider yourself a relationship advice expert there, Dave?

SPEAKER_02

No.

SPEAKER_01

No, no, no. Well, uh, hopefully you can help this person out. I'll read the story and then we'll get your advice. All right, the dude's uh the girl's uh 26 and the dude and her boyfriend is 28. She says, I've been living with my boyfriend for about a year and a half, and lately it's really starting to bother me. He doesn't help with the chores at all. Ugh, I just started grad school, so I don't have as much time, and I'm realizing now I was doing pretty much everything before. Now, unless I ask him, nothing gets done. He used to work fewer hours and still didn't help, just played video games or watched TV. Now he says he's tired from work or his allergies are bad, and he'll do it tomorrow, but tomorrow never comes. The other night during finals week, I asked him multiple times just to change the cat's water, and he got annoyed and told me to let him relax. I love him, but it's starting to feel like I'm his maid, not his partner. Do you have any advice on how to handle this?

SPEAKER_02

Well, first of all, I'd a controller for the video game. Hmm.

SPEAKER_01

Alright, passive aggressive.

SPEAKER_02

Second of all, don't clean up after him. Just let it lay, and eventually he'll get sick of the way it looks, and maybe he'll start doing something. Maybe he won't, though.

SPEAKER_01

Some people just don't care. Like, uh I don't care that much if things get dirty, but it would probably it's probably gonna drive this lady nuts and she's gonna end up having to take uh take care of it.

SPEAKER_02

No.

SPEAKER_01

Just hold your ground and just don't do it. Don't do it, and then live in filth just because your boyfriend won't do any of the chores?

SPEAKER_02

Now you do your part of what you want to do for your benefit. I was gonna say something, but uh inappropriate. But um the heck with him. Let him live in Divide the house. Let him live on his side, you do live on your side. Yeah, well, shouldn't she just break up with them then? Oh, take a walk, yeah, definitely.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, yeah, yeah, take a walk. Oh, but uh you never mention anything about sitting down and telling him uh that this is bothering you. You just said go ahead and throw away his uh remote control for the TV and the video games. Uh you you don't think she should kind of let let him know that it's bothering her first? She should just do that, uh, those actions instead.

SPEAKER_02

If he hadn't figured it out by now, he's a clod.

SPEAKER_01

He's a what? A clod. What's a clod? A dirt bag. Oh, a dirtbag. I've never heard the term clod. Where does that come from?

SPEAKER_02

Back when I was growing up, we call everybody clods.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, a twad. All right. Dave's advice to you don't talk to him, just hide his remote control. Let the house become a mess. Let him figure it out. If he doesn't fix it, then get your running shoes on and run.

SPEAKER_02

Totally.
