A birthday call turns into a full-on identity check… are you still young at 47, or officially in “groan when you stand up” territory? We call up Ryan McKee, celebrate his birthday, and immediately put him on the spot with a 1979 trivia challenge covering music, movies, and pop culture. Play along and see how you’d do.

Then it’s game time with real stakes — Diamondbacks tickets. National Crayon Day gives us the perfect excuse to play “Crayon Color or Made Up,” where names like Macaroni & Cheese somehow turn out to be real. One answer can make or break it.

Of course, Paul from Beaumont joins us with a weekend story you’d expect… and maybe shouldn’t 😂 plus we test him with marriage and wedding trivia as his son’s big day gets closer.

And because it’s Talk About Something Good Tuesday, we catch up with Jineane Ford from Majik 101.7 and iTalk 106.7 to share some good news, including an American Idol update and a Julian Kalel update, plus a feel-good story from the San Diego Zoo that’s making a difference for kids in hospitals.

Let's go ahead and give him a call and wish him happy birthday on this talk about something good Tuesday.

SPEAKER_01

Hello. Happy birthday, dear Ryan. Happy birthday to you.

SPEAKER_03

You're the second person that sung me happy birthday this way.

SPEAKER_02

Really? Who was the first? Who who sang it better? Be honest.

SPEAKER_03

Well, I think it was you because he shook my hand and then held it while he sang directly into my eyes. It was a little creepy.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, it sounds beautiful. I would have done the same thing if we were person to person, but unfortunately, I'm not able to do that over the phone. But you are uh 47 years young. How does it feel?

SPEAKER_03

Oh, it feels weird. It's it's weird to attach that number to myself. I'm staring down the barrel at 50.

SPEAKER_02

You still got three years. You know what? The 47 is the new 27, right?

SPEAKER_03

I mean, maybe, but I have hearing aids, so I think the new 40 or the new 40 is the new 70 for me.

SPEAKER_02

Did your 21-year-old roommate get you anything uh for your birthday?

SPEAKER_03

Uh I haven't seen him yet, uh, but he and his girlfriend did cook me dinner last night.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, heck yeah. Uh, I want to play a quick game with you uh before we go to our next segment. Uh, since you are 47, I want to know if this is happening to you or not. Uh getting ex getting excited about canceling plans. Happening or not? That doesn't excite me.

SPEAKER_03

I know people get excited about that, but I love a plan.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, alright. And and uh, but canceling plans, you don't ever that doesn't uh that doesn't look good to you. What about making a weird noise every time you stand up? Is that happening to you or not?

SPEAKER_03

Absolutely. It's a big groan every time. Give us an example.

SPEAKER_02

Is that the sound that old man made uh when he sang happy birthday to you? No. He sang it crystal clear. Oh, nice. And last one, getting mad when music is too loud. Oh, definitely. There you go. He's definitely getting old. We are on the phone with birthday boy Ryan McKee, just turned 47. So that means you were born in 1979. So before I let you go, I want to see how well you know your birth year. You ready? I'm ready. What was the number one song in 1979? Was it A, My Sharona, B, YMCA, or C, Staying Alive?

SPEAKER_03

Oh. I hope it's My Sharona.

SPEAKER_02

Holy moly, there you go. Why do you hope it's My Sharona?

SPEAKER_03

Uh, the rest of the only song of those I like.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, there you go. Uh, which movie came out in 1979? Was it Star Wars, Rocky II, or Beaches? Star Wars, I know that one. Well, that's not what Chat GPT told me. No, ChatGPT says Rocky II. No. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Uh, which fast food item debuted in 1979? Was it the Happy Meal, chicken nuggets, or Big Mac?

SPEAKER_03

Happy Meal.

SPEAKER_02

It is Happy Meal, heck yeah. And I was born in '80, and uh uh I have so many good memories of the Happy Meal. Do you remember your favorite Happy Meal toy?

SPEAKER_03

Uh no, but I hope it I believe it was Grimace, because he was my favorite character of the uh McDonald's gang.

SPEAKER_02

Of the McDonald's gang. And last question: which candy came out in 1979, the year you were born? Was it A, Twix, B, Reese's Pieces, or C Skittles? Twix. No, it was Skittles. Ah heck yeah. Two things that came out in 1979, whose theme is Taste the Rainbow, Ryan McKee and Skittles.

SPEAKER_03

I'm gonna have to use that.

Crayon Color Game For Tickets

Paul’s Gun Show And Wedding Trivia

SPEAKER_02

Well, Ryan, thanks so much for having fun with us on your birthday. Uh, you're such a special friend and uh such an amazing person, and so I'm I'm so glad that you were born, and I'm so glad you're part of my life, and I hope uh you have a great day. And on your date uh with yourself, let yourself know that if you do anything to hurt my Ryan, he'll have to answer to me. Sound good? Sounds good, and I'll let you know if I get lucky on my date. Alright, buddy, see ya. Bye. Bye. Good morning. It's the morning brew with Chris. You are first caller. Who's this? This is Kelsey. Kelsey, where are you from? Eager. Eager, Kelsey from Eager. She's eager to win some tickets to see the D-Backs Friday night against the Braves. Today is National Crayon Day, or Crown, or whatever you want to call it. Uh, we're gonna play a game called Crayon Color or Made Up. If you get two right, you win these tickets. Three wrong, you're gone. Here we go. Uh macaroni and cheese. Is that a real crayon color or made up? Real. How did you know that? I just have a feeling that's totally a color. Yep, it is. Uh, you got one right, you just need one more to get it to get these tickets. Dragonfire red. Real or fake? Oh. Um fake. Holy moly, two for two! No wasting. You didn't waste any time this morning. Congratulations. You just won two tickets to see the D-Backs take on the Atlanta Braves this Friday. What station hooked you up? 92.5. You know it. Woo! That's Bob Long! Beaumont says so! Yay yee! Yay yee! Everyone's favorite redneck from Beaumont, Texas. It's Paul from Beaumont. Uh, your wife was away this weekend, went to a bachelorette party with your soon-to-be uh daughter-in-law and your daughters in New Orleans. And uh, what did uh Paul do while the cat was away?

SPEAKER_01

Well, Paul sat around the house and then Saturday I was like, she called me, she's like, What are you doing? I said, I would go to a gun show. She was like, Well, they're pretty boring when you can't get anything. And I was like, okay.

SPEAKER_02

And so uh she basically told you that uh she did not give you permission to get a gun, and uh, so you didn't get a gun, right? No, I got one. What did you end up getting? I got an MP5. Ooh, that sounds like a robot. What is that?

SPEAKER_01

It's like kind you always see like in the China Week movies, all the gangster movies. Yeah. Mine don't go, mine don't go.

SPEAKER_02

So what you were just walking around the house Saturday night in your whitey tidies, uh, just uh making that noise and carrying that gun? Pretty much I was John Wicking in the house. That's awesome. Well, sweet. Well, when uh when is the wedding uh with your uh soon-to-be daughter-in-law and your son? May 2nd. May 2nd. It's right around the corner. It is now time for Are You Smarter Than a Redneck with your son getting married May 2nd? We are going to do some marriage and relationship trivia. Here we go. You ready? Let's do this. How long is the average engagement in the U.S.? Is it A three months, B, six months, C 12 to 18 months, or D three years? Paul. Paul. I'll go with C. C 12 to 18 months, that's what I was gonna say, and you are correct. Uh, what do you think about people that have been uh engaged for like 10 plus years? Yeah, they don't want to get married. Next question. What's the most popular wedding month? Is it A, January, B, June, C, October, or D December? Chris. I'm gonna say B June. It is! All right, ding ding. We are tied at one apiece. This last question is worth a million points. All right, here we go. What's the average number of guests at a wedding? Is it A 20, B 50, C 100 to 150, or D 500? Pa. Pa.

unknown

C.

SPEAKER_02

C 100 to 150? Ding ding ding. He is smarter than a very handsome radio DJ. How many guests are gonna be at your son's wedding?

SPEAKER_01

I don't know, there's already 90 that I know of so far, so I'm not sure.

SPEAKER_02

But probably he'll fall into the range of 100, 150? Oh, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

And are they getting married at your house or where are they getting married at? Oh, no, no. We got a venue. Oh, nice, oh nice. And do they get married in a church and then you go party at a venue, or you get married at the venue?

SPEAKER_01

It's a one-stop shop.

SPEAKER_02

One-stop shop. What uh are uh do you have anything in mind that you're gonna get them uh the newlywed couple for their wedding?

SPEAKER_01

I got nothing. I already I already did enough.

SPEAKER_02

Janine, you there?

SPEAKER_00

Yes, I am. How are you, Chris?

SPEAKER_02

I'm doing great on this tackle about something good Tuesday. You want to share some good news this morning? Yes, always love that. I have a couple things. One, uh, on the morning brew, we do a segment called our country climbs star of the week, where we interview independent artists and play their music for the first time on the radio. And one of those artists, his name is Julian Kallel, originally out of uh New Mexico or uh uh El Paso, actually. And uh he is on this season's American Idol, and yesterday he moved on to the top 14. Ooh, so cool. Yeah, they were supposed to announce the top 12, but they said uh due to voting issues and voting integrity, they needed to wait till next week to uh announce the final winners. So a lot of drama there. Uh, but here's uh my main good news story. Um, you know how much kids love going to the zoo. Well, for kids in the hospital who can't leave for their health, that's not always possible. But now, thanks to the San Diego Zoo, they're bringing the zoo to them. Aww. Yeah, they created a 24-hour channel that streams animals from all over the world with live cams, close-ups, and even behind the scenes uh moments right into the hospital rooms. And it's not just one or two places, this is now in over 400 hospitals across the country and even around the world. And doctors say it's making a huge difference helping kids smile, relax, and forget what they're going through, even if it is just for a little bit. So honestly, that's uh pretty cool.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, live cameras. That is so awesome. I love it.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, bringing the zoo to the kids in the hospitals. I love that. Definitely something good worth talking about this morning. All right, Janine, what good news do you have for us on this talk about something good Tuesday?

SPEAKER_00

Okay, you the you have just a great story about the, you know, the zoos and everything. But this is a really cute one that kind of I I love this one because who doesn't love their childhood teddy bear or a teddy bear? You know, they they they just are anyway. This retired seamstress, and she's fixing teddy bears all across the country. She's running a teddy bear hospital from her home. She's been doing it for more than 20 years. Her name is Ruth Hassman, and she restores stuffed animals back to their former glory. She fixes everything from missing eyes to wear and tear, you know, when your dog gets in the teddy bear. She even hunts through thrift stores to try to match original fabrics. And you should see these teddy bears. They're adorable. Many of the teddies that she fixes are family heirlooms. Um, one teddy bear that's like 115 years old. So she has restored like old stifed bears and everything else. She does a beautiful job, but it's really sweet. And it's not just bears, there's a couple monkeys and things in there too. I can see them. But I just think it's sweet. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

That's awesome. A teddy bear hospital.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

I love it. Well, that stuffed me with good feelings.

SPEAKER_00

All warm and fuzzy, right? There was one other really one that's going viral, you guys have to check out, okay? It was scary, but luckily everyone is safe now. Uh, mother, a little girl in England, she went out and she's walking along the beach, right? Well, there was a pocket of quicksand and she starts sinking. Her mom races out to try to help her, right? And she starts sinking. They both were stuck, like up to their waists, and the tide's coming in. Oh. So people found them, they got ropes to them, they were able to yank them out just in time and rescue them to save the mother and daughter, but before that tide came in.

SPEAKER_02

Oh my gosh. That is like something out of the movie. That is, I'm gonna be paranoid to watch walk today in anything.

SPEAKER_00

Well, we don't have a big beach by us, so you're okay.

SPEAKER_02

That's the only way you get quicksand, is to spend a beach?

SPEAKER_00

No, there are some, there are some of that that black, nasty junk that's sometimes uh it there's this black stuff. Like when we would go out hunting or you're fishing up in Colorado, I got stuck waist high and had to wait for everybody in some of that black death junk that was near a high lake up in the Grambies in Colorado. Oh my gosh, my waiters, I I went right into my waist. It was horrible. It slowly grabs you and pulls you in. So you have to be careful that junk too. Oh my gosh. Black, nasty. Yeah.
