SPEAKER_02Hello, best friends. It is me, Chris Bennett, and that was a little snippet from today's show with our buddy Ryan McKee, who apparently broke up with himself, we'll explain. On today's morning brew, Nashville singer, songwriter, and actress Brooklyn Summer joins us in studio. She's in the White Mountains filming the upcoming movie The Christmas Witch, and she helps us rule on a couple of wild Am I the jerk court cases. We also catch up with Ryan about getting back into the dating world, touch base with Janine Ford, and have plenty of laughs along the way. So sit back, relax, and get ready for today's episode. SPEAKER_02I do. I have a friend. It's a Brooklyn Summer. She's Nashville recording artist out of Nashville and an actress. She's in town in the White Mountains, uh filming um a movie being produced right here in the White Mountains called The Christmas Witch.
SPEAKER_04Oh, I remember about this. Yes. Very cool.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. So she's gonna be hanging out with us this morning. We'll be playing some of her music. And uh also I think uh tonight they're filming a scene for the Christmas Witch. And uh if uh people want to be in the movie, be an extra, they can. Do you know where that's where they go, Brooklyn? Camp Grace. Okay, awesome.
SPEAKER_04Camp Grace, they're filming it. Okay. Camp Grace at what's this kind of is, and it's kind of a little bit of a Hallmark-ish kind of a movie, right? Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it's like a Hallmark Christmas uh Hallmark Christmas movie. Yeah, with a little bit of Christmas magic.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I love it. I love it. I'm I'm a big Hallmark fan. Oh, there you go. That style. I love that style, yeah.
SPEAKER_02And are you the Christmas witch?
SPEAKER_05Oh, yeah. I play Bridget Bailfire and the Christmas witch. I'm one of the main characters, and I'm having so much fun.

Emergency Key Turns Into Snooping
SPEAKER_02Well, sweet. So uh it is Wednesday, and that means it's time for Am I the Jerk Court? Uh, Janine, you'll be our judge today, but Summer is gonna help us out as our bailiff. All right, it's now time for Am I the Jerk Court? The Honorable Janine Ford presides, and we have special guest, bailiff Brooklyn Summer, with the Christmas witch joining us today. I'll read the story and then we'll get your verdict. You ready, Judge?
SPEAKER_04I am ready.
SPEAKER_02You got your bedazzled uh w uh robe on?
SPEAKER_04Yes, I do. Excellent.
SPEAKER_02I love I'm 26, and when I moved into my apartment about eight months ago, I gave my mom a spare key, but only for emergencies. Like if I got locked out, got sick, or needed someone to check on the place while I was away. Last week I was busy at work and didn't respond to her text for about five hours. Instead of waiting or calling me, she used the key and let herself into my apartment. I wasn't even home. She decided to help by cleaning. She did my laundry, reorganized my bathroom, went through drawers in my bedroom, threw away things she thought I didn't need, and even found a box with personal letters, old photos, medication, and other private items. The next day I changed the locks and I gave my spare key to a trusted friend instead. Now my parents say I embarrassed my mom and I overreacted. Am I the jerk for changing the locks and refusing to give my mom another key? When we come back, we'll get the ruling from the Honorable Janine Ford and Bailiff Brooklyn Summer. SPEAKER_04You're writing the story. Yeah, there you go. I always like the break in his voice where he's just about to cry.
SPEAKER_02All right, you two heard the story. Am I the jerk for changing the locks and refusing to give my mom another key? Janine, what say you?
SPEAKER_04You know, I think the mom went way over the top when she gets in there with her key and just starts to organize and clean and go into all those private spaces. So I don't think she's I think she needs to draw a line in the sand with her mom. Um I don't know if she had to change the locks to do that, but I I don't I think they're both being a little bit of a jerk, maybe. Uh, but I think the mom went way overboard and stepped, you know, stepped in it. All right. Well, you know, you don't go into her apartment. You could go in and check and see if she's okay, but don't start cleaning and sorting and going through drawers.
SPEAKER_02Don't go through doors. Oh yeah. What do you say? Uh so bailiff uh uh uh bailiff Brooklyn, you are young. You can relate to this lady. You you are how old? I'm 16. She's 16 years old. So when you're old enough to live on your own, you can relate to this young lady. How do you feel? And your mom's in studio with this right now.

SPEAKER_02So do you agree with Janine's uh ruling bailiff?
SPEAKER_05Oh yeah. You know, originally, as we were just starting the story, I was originally thinking that the OP would be the jerk, but as soon as I started hearing about how the mom was going through all those private spaces and doing a lot more than she needed, I was like, okay, we should tone it down a bit here, because I'd be a little mad if my mom did that to me. Yeah. So, you know, I think the mom should tone it down a bit.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_04And they should resolve. All right. Yeah, and also she just needs to say, Mom, hey, you know, I'm just gonna have my friend do this from now on and stuff. And also, the only thing that with her too, I think five hours not to return a text to your mom, just let her ever know everything's okay. Everything's cool. You know, I mean, just don't ignore her for five hours at a time, obviously. Just say, Mom, I'm good. I've got Carly stopping by my house, everything's good. It's my friend, you know, something else. But she she just needs to blend it over, but not have the mom check in her own private apartment, you know, that thing. Right. Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Should she give her a new spare key?
SPEAKER_04I don't think so. I think, you know, they're both adults, she doesn't need a key, but she can return the text a little faster so the mom doesn't worry. Uh being a mom, you worry a lot. So it's just like, hey, I'll just text my boys sometimes, say, hey, good morning, everything good? If I get no response at all for a whole day, I'm starting to, I'm just sweating. You know, like did they just fall over in an accident or something? Yeah, exactly.
SPEAKER_02All right, so in the case of Am I the Jerk for changing my locks after my mother-in-law used my emergency key to enter my apartment without permission, Janine and Brooklyn rule, you are not the jerk, girlfriend.
SPEAKER_04Oh, and I just noticed something. I missed the mother-in-law that I didn't realize it was her direct mom. Oh my god, the mother-in-law, that really twists the screw in your side. No, you don't like that.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, no. But this was her mother. Did I say mother-in-law?
SPEAKER_04You said mother-in-law just now. Oh, it's her mom.
SPEAKER_02It's her mom. I just like to make things a little more dramatic.
SPEAKER_04I would be really creeped out about it.

Ryan Reenters Dating With Tacos
SPEAKER_02Good morning. It's the morning brew with Chris and today's guest, Brooklyn Summer from The Christmas Witch. Who's this? Hello, hello. It's Ryan. Hey, our best friend producer Ryan, originally from Payson, now in Wilmington, North Carolina. Uh, we have a guest, Brooklyn, joining us today. And uh Ryan's been trying to date himself. Do you have any uh dating updates on his therapists that he needed to look so good?
SPEAKER_01I haven't been so good at dating myself. I mean, I I took a month off. But then I, you know, last week I was like feeling a little bored, feeling a little lonely, and so uh I re-downloaded Tinder, which I have not been on for a couple of years. I was like, let me just see what this town has to offer.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, let's see if if things have changed.

SPEAKER_02Right, especially when you're 47, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. So sh we're gonna go get tacos because I feel like that seems casual enough.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Yeah, yeah, it's a good choice. You think Brooklyn? Yeah, yeah. Coffee is probably like very weird after 7 o'clock on a first date. Uh well, that's exciting. I can't wait to hear some updates. I don't want to jinx anything. Um, but also give my condolences to yourself. Sorry you guys broke up.

Ghost Fear Coworker Dilemma
SPEAKER_02right. It's now time for our second Am I the Jerk Court case today, the honorable Brooklyn Summer, Nashville recording artist and star of the movie being filmed up here. The Christmas Witch is our judge. And our sassy bailiff with a lot of attitude is Ryan McKee. Are you two ready? Oh, did you hear that sass from Ryan? He's bringing it. Oh, he broke the sass. Okay, I love it. Here we go. Am I the jerk? One of my coworkers is terrified of ghosts because of beliefs he grew up with. Our office is in an old factory where several people have died over the years. So everyone has an informal agreement not to leave him working alone at night. Last Friday, I told him I'd be staying until 6.30. So he planned to work late too. But around 5.30, my wife texted saying she was sick and needed me home to help with our toddler. I went to find my coworker so I could let him know I was leaving, but I couldn't find him anywhere. After waiting about five minutes, I left. About 20 minutes later, he texted asking where I was. He was upset, and now my co-workers say I should I uh should have waited longer and not left him alone. I feel bad, but my family had to come first. Am I the jerk for leaving without telling him? When we come back, we'll get the ruling from the honorable Brooklyn Summer and our sassy bailiff, Ryan McKee. All right, Summer, you heard this story. This person wants to know if he's the jerk uh leaving work early without telling his coworker who's afraid of ghosts. Uh, what say you, judge, or do you want to hear from the bailiff first?
SPEAKER_05I I'll go first. I'll go first. I'm the judge after all. Okay. Um, you know, uh first of all, I uh completely agree that family 100% comes first. Come on, it's a wife versus a co-worker, so. Uh second of all, uh, one thing that I noticed is that it was it was just an hour difference. He left an hour early. I'm pretty sure he can survive for an hour in there without getting murdered by a ghost. And uh third of all, I know that he's an adult working somewhere, so I don't know how old this guy is, but I know he's over 20 being concerned about ghosts, so I think he just needs to get it together, so you know. I wish him luck, but at the same time, I don't think this guy is the jerk at all.
SPEAKER_02Our judge Brooklyn Summer bringing the heat. No nonsense, you are not the jerk. Bailiff, what do you say?
SPEAKER_01I I totally agree, but as a peace offering, I think that she I was just looking at during the break online, crystals that ward away goats. So she should buy him like an amethyst or a black obsidian crystal and say, hey, sorry, but just to protect you going forward.

The Christmas Witch And Quick Icebreakers
SPEAKER_02I have been hanging in studio this morning with Brooklyn Summer. So happy to not be all by myself. And Brooklyn is a Nashville recording artist. We're gonna be playing one of her songs here in a second. But you are in town uh from Nashville, and uh you're in town filming The Christmas Witch. Oh, yeah. Yeah, tell us a little bit uh about The Christmas Witch and and why should people check it out?
SPEAKER_05Well, The Christmas Witch, a movie, is coming out based off of the book version of The Christmas Witch, written by Delea Faulkner. Um, super amazing people. I love all the producers that I'm working with, I love all of the actors that I'm working with and the crew members I'm working with. Everybody's just so nice on the set. The script is so amazing, the scenes are so amazing. Just based on everything that I've watched and everything that I've partaken in, it's just gonna be great, and that's why you should watch it.
SPEAKER_02Alright, and so filming wraps up this year, and then when can we expect to see this in theaters? When do you think it's gonna be coming out?
SPEAKER_05You know, I'm thinking about probably sometime next year.
