We're kicking off the week with laughs, good news and a little motivation! David Whitmore from the Show Low Elks Riders calls in to recap an incredible weekend of comedy and the amazing moment that helped us raise more than $1,000 for local children's charities.
Then Show Low's Dave Ramsey joins us for Motivational Monday! In honor of Pluto getting demoted 20 years ago, we're sharing motivational quotes for anyone who's ever been knocked down, rejected or overlooked. Dave also sticks around for Boo or Cool: Waffle Edition—and has some VERY strong opinions about chicken and waffles.
Plus, comedian Ryan McKee calls in before heading back to his hometown of Payson for our comedy show this weekend. He's worried about seeing his childhood bullies again, tells us about his night at a Kesha concert, and reveals that his 22-year-old roommate has apparently been WATERING A FAKE PLANT.

Comedy Fundraiser With Elks Riders
SPEAKER_03Hello, best friends. It is me, Chris Bennett, and that is just a little snippet from our conversation with Ryan McKee on today's show. Hello, hello, happy Monday. We had an amazing weekend of comedy here in the White Mountains. And today we're talking with David Whitmore from the Solo Elks Riders about an incredible moment at Saturday Night show that helped us raise over $1,000 for local kids' charities through the Elks Riders. Plus, it's Motivational Monday, 20 years ago today. Pluto got demoted. So we're getting motivated for anybody who's ever been knocked down, rejected, overlooked, or apparently told they're no longer a planet. Then Show Low's uh Dave Ramsey joins us for Boo and Cool Waffle Edition. And my buddy Ryan McKee calls in before heading back to his hometown of Payson for our comedy show this Saturday night. And apparently he's been leaving his house plants in the hand of his 22-year-old roommate who's been watering a fake plant. Well, uh, let's get the show started, best friends. Chris Bennett and the Morning Brew. Good morning. It's the Morning Brew with Chris. Who's this? David Whitmore from the Solo Elks Lodge, the Solo Elks Riders. Heck yeah, David Whitmore, baby. Uh, the Solo Elks Lodge was where we had our amazing comedy show. Chris Bennett Comedy in Allaberto's presents our summer comedy series. We had headliner Dwayne Perkins, featured comedian Dylan White. And as always, the Elks Riders run security for the event. You guys do such a good job. People start talking. You just stand right next to them and they shut up. Yes, sir. It's the best. We appreciate everything uh you guys do to help us make these shows so great. This weekend show, what did you think of it?
SPEAKER_00Oh, it was amazing. The comedians were great, the crowd was great. Uh we had a great time being there and helping out.
SPEAKER_03And one of my favorite things we do is not only do we laugh and have a good time, but we raise money for the Elks Riders charities, which are for local children's charities here in the White Mountains. You help kids with backpacks, back to school, bikes, uh, you know, uh gifts, coats during the winter season, shop with the cop, those type of things. And uh so we do a 50-50 raffle at the comedy show to raise money for those children's charities. And how much did we raise this Saturday?
SPEAKER_00You know, this was one of the best ones we've had. We raised over $900. I believe it was $968. Um, half of that went to the winner, but the guy who won was amazing and donated his entire portion back. So that whole $968 is going to help the kids on the white in the White Mountains.
SPEAKER_03Heck yeah, and with additional donations, I think we were over a thousand, right? Yes, sir. Heck yeah, dude, so awesome. So great. It was a great night. Great night. Yeah, and that was that gave me chills when he he won the money. You went to give it to him, and he goes, No, give it to the kids.
SPEAKER_00So that's that was amazing. The people, the people of the White Mountains and Show are just absolutely amazing. They uh have such great hearts, and we love them all. Absolutely.

Motivational Monday After A Demotion

Hanging in there, buddy. All right. Well, in honor of uh today is uh 20 years ago today, Pluto got demoted as a planet. So, in honor of Pluto getting demoted, today's motivational Monday is for anybody who's ever been knocked down, overlooked, rejected, passed over, or just plain demoted. Your title may change, but your worth doesn't. Here we go, Dave. Uh, first one, Maya Angelou. Uh, you may encounter many defeats, but you must not be defeated. Is that a boo or cool one? Cool. Cool, okay. Steve Jobs said sometimes life hits you in the head with a brick. Don't lose faith. Boo or cool. Boo. Well, you don't like that one, all right. That one's not in the running. Uh Nelson Mandela, do not judge me by my successes. Judge me by how many times I fell down and got back up again. Boo or cool. Cool. That's a good one, all right. J.K. Rowling, the author of Harry Potter, said rock bottom became the solid foundation on which I rebuilt my life. Boo or cool to that.

Boo Or Cool National Waffle Day
SPEAKER_03It is now time for boo or cool with show loss, Dave Ramsey. Today is National Waffle Day, Dave. Boo or cool the waffles. Cool. Cool, yeah. What do you prefer, uh, waffles or pancakes? Pancakes. Really? I'm more of a waffle guy. I like how they have the built-in cups for the syrup. Uh, but in honor of National Waffle Day, we are gonna do boo or cool things people put on their waffles. You ready? I'm ready. Just butter, no syrup. Yeah, greener used to do that. That's pretty cool. All right, all right. Uh, peanut butter and maple syrup. Boo. No, no peanut butter on your waffle? No. No, you ever try it? Yeah, it's gross. Oh, okay. All right, how about strawberries and whipped cream? Cool. Yeah, heck yeah, that's my favorite. How about fried chicken and waffles? Boo. You don't like that? It's such a trend. It's all over. They got restaurants that just sell chicken and waffles. Why don't you like uh fried chicken and waffles? Never had it. Oh, good. So if you don't, if you've never had it, you just don't like it?

SPEAKER_03All right. How about a fried bacon and cheese on top of the uh the waffle? Basically a breakfast sandwich out of a waffle. Boo. Boo! That sounds so good, Dave. You gotta live a little. Ryan McKee Returns To Hometown Stage
SPEAKER_03Good morning. It's the morning brew with Chris. Who's this?
SPEAKER_01It's Ryan McKee.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, my best friend Ryan McKee, calling us from Wilmington, North Carolina. But he's originally from Payson, Arizona. That's where he'll be headlining stand-up comedy this Saturday at 7 at the Saw Mill Movie Theaters, right?
SPEAKER_01That is correct. It's gonna be a great time with uh you, you're performing. Yep. And our friend Cameron Kahn, who performed in Show Low before and was much beloved by the crowd.
SPEAKER_03Oh, people loved him. And uh yeah, I can't wait. I'm excited to do a longer set. And uh you are a little nervous because you're going back to your hometown where you grew up and uh where you got bullied a little bit.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I never performed back in my hometown. The pressure is on, you know. People are messaging me on Facebook that I haven't seen since high school. I'm I'm I don't know if my childhood bullies are gonna show up and make fun of me, you know? It's a possibility.
SPEAKER_03It is a possibility, but your mom They might give me a wedgie. Your mom will be there to keep you safe. And she also uh took out an ad in the newspaper uh for your show. That is the cutest mom thing ever. What what did the ad say in the newspaper?
SPEAKER_01I I don't know, but I'm imagining it's my baby picture and says, come see my cute son perform comedy. She probably didn't even put the details of where it was.
SPEAKER_03Well, if you want to have a good time and you're gonna be in the Pacing area, come see Ryan, myself, and Cameron Kahn at the sawmill movie theaters. How do they uh buy tickets?

SPEAKER_03All right, this Saturday, 7 p.m. Can't wait. He's heading out of town, so that means that your 22-year-old roommate, just a reminder, Ryan's 47, his 22 Okay, that's that was unnecessary, but okay. So you're leaving him in charge? Is he watching the dog? Are you nervous about leaving him alone?
SPEAKER_01The dog is coming with me. Okay. I'll be out in Arizona for a couple of weeks. Gonna fly with the Chihuahua. Nice. And so I'm not I'm not worried. You know, he's I've left him alone before. He's taking pretty good care of the place. Um, but the one thing I'm a little worried about the plants. Oh no. Okay. You know, I have some have some plants. What some of them that are outside need to be watered daily. A little worried about those, especially because when I, you know, was going through all the plants with him and reminding him when they had to be watered, how often. And he goes, How how often do I water this one? And he pointed to a large, fake plant.
Plant Care Disaster And Kesha Recap
SPEAKER_01And I said, It's fake, Joey. You don't have to water it at all. He goes, Oh man, I've totally watered that before.
SPEAKER_03Well, your plants, both fake and living, are going to be well fed while you're away.
SPEAKER_01I hope so.
SPEAKER_03Uh so Ryan recently went to a Kesha concert. He was trying to decide uh she was a big part of his life when he was down. He loves her music, but he didn't know if it would be weird.
SPEAKER_01She cheers me up. She cheers me up. What can I say?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, and you didn't know if it would be weird or not as a 47-year-old uh single straight man to go to a Kesha concert by yourself. You ended up having a friend being like, I love Kesha too, and you ended up going uh with one of your dude friends. Give us a review of your Kesha concert.
SPEAKER_01Absolutely, it was a blast. Kesha is amazing in concert. I will say I was definitely the only straight male in his 40s at the concert who was not accompanying their child or their girlfriend.
SPEAKER_03And did you meet any uh older ladies that were maybe there with their daughters?
SPEAKER_01Or no, no, not at all. Not at all. Because my buddy decided, hey, I'm gonna buy you a Tesha t-shirt, and then we both have to wear them.
SPEAKER_03Oh, so you looked like you were on a date.
SPEAKER_01And we we bought us both pink shirts, and we definitely looked like a middle-aged couple. Heck yeah!
SPEAKER_03I saw the pictures, and you guys did look really, really good. Yeah, thank you. We're a cute couple. That's awesome. Well, I'm so glad you had fun at the Kesha concert. Uh, but you know what's gonna be more fun? Some movie theater or sawmill theater.
