woke up and he was sitting at the breakfast table and he was having cereal and he said, I'm nervous going to class, I'm nervous going to my classroom because it was a place away from family. 00:04:13.840 --> 00:04:24.399 It's a place where he has to identify as himself, who he's going to be, the friends he's going to have, how people will accept him, will they value him? 00:04:24.560 --> 00:04:25.360 Will they love him? 00:04:26.319 --> 00:04:27.600 Will he fit? 00:04:27.839 --> 00:04:38.800 And it's a huge question, and I know all of us have experienced a similar situation like that, where we've gone to a class or your first day of school and you've been intimidated as well. 00:04:38.959 --> 00:04:50.560 Perhaps it's your first job, perhaps it's uh meeting some uh some family --> 00:05:18.639 A number of years ago, there was uh an article written in the newspaper about a fellow who was actually found naked, unconscious. 00:05:18.800 --> 00:05:22.399 He had been beaten behind this uh restaurant. 00:05:22.879 --> 00:05:34.399 And when he was uh he came to and he regained consciousness, the doctors tried to ask him, like, who are you and where do you come from? 00:05:34.560 --> 00:05:39.279 And all these basic questions, but they weren't able to find any ideal on his body. 00:05:39.439 --> 00:05:47.759 And when they they pursued those questions, they realized that he was suffering with amnesia and he didn't even know who he was. 00:05:48.240 --> 00:05:59.920 And they had investigators online looking to figure out who he was, they had people and they had they put public reports out for people to identify him. 00:06:00.160 --> 00:06:01.600 He even went on Dr. 00:06:01.839 --> 00:06:24.959 Phil and was accompanied by a nurse who's committed to like figuring out this guy's story because an identity is so important for him to be living without a name, without a story, without uh uh a gifting that he discovered about himself, all these things uh attribute to who you are. 00:06:25.519 --> 00:06:31.120 And so he had felt like his identity had been robbed, stolen. 00:06:31.279 --> 00:06:38.079 And I know that uh in today's culture, stealing an identity is such a critical issue. 00:06:38.399 --> 00:06:50.959 I read the other day that it's literally a$5 billion a year issue as people have stolen others' identity and actually claimed taxes, tax returns in their name. 00:06:51.120 --> 00:07:03.120 And the government in the US over the last five years has had to put out$25 billion to repay money to people who've been defrauded. 00:07:03.600 --> 00:07:05.360 But Satan is there. 00:07:05.759 --> 00:07:10.800 We have an enemy, Satan, who wants to defraud more than our money. 00:07:11.040 --> 00:07:15.120 He wants to defraud us, and it's a sinister attack. 00:07:15.279 --> 00:07:21.519 He wants to affraud us of our identity, which is more valuable than money. 00:07:21.759 --> 00:07:27.759 He wants to steal our identity in Christ, who Christ created us to be. 00:07:28.079 --> 00:07:44.720 He wants to hide your true identity, he wants to diminish you as to who you were created to be, he wants to confuse you, he wants you to not know the power that exists in you because you are in Christ. 00:07:45.600 --> 00:07:52.240 Because you are in God, you are so much more than even you realize. 00:07:52.399 --> 00:07:56.480 And the enemy, our enemy, does not want you to discover that. 00:07:56.720 --> 00:08:09.839 So, one of the reasons why we get so stressed out and we get so tired is that there's this unseen battle that's happening that's waging on uh in our life over our identity. 00:08:10.800 --> 00:08:15.920 And every single moment of the day, this battle is waging on. 00:08:16.160 --> 00:08:18.879 We don't see it, but the tension is there. 00:08:19.120 --> 00:08:22.800 The world is trying to strip away who you've been called to be. 00:08:23.040 --> 00:08:28.079 God's trying to reinforce who you were created to be. 00:08:28.160 --> 00:08:39.759 And there's this battle because if you ever found and discovered and realized fully who you were created to be, it would be an incredible thing. 00:08:40.159 --> 00:08:42.720 Satan is not as powerful as God. 00:08:43.200 --> 00:08:46.799 He cannot steal or create anything. 00:08:46.960 --> 00:09:06.720 He can't create another identity on your behalf, he can't take it away forever, but he can distort and he can manipulate and he can pervert and he can dish down that identity that God places a seed in your life. 00:09:07.039 --> 00:09:12.639 He does this with all other types of things, with money, with sex, with relationships, with beauty. 00:09:12.879 --> 00:09:16.639 He does it with power, and he'll do it with your identity. 00:09:16.799 --> 00:09:25.200 He'll corrupt it, he'll deceive, he'll do, use any of his tactics to actually tear it apart. 00:09:25.519 --> 00:09:29.759 And Satan uses certain tools to actually corrupt this identity. 00:09:29.919 --> 00:09:35.919 And perhaps if you know of them, you'll be more aware as to how to resist them. 00:09:36.159 --> 00:09:37.759 The first attack is this. 00:09:38.000 --> 00:09:41.600 He'll use hurt and pain and trauma. 00:09:42.080 --> 00:09:46.000 Hurt and pain and trauma are something that we'll all encounter. 00:09:46.159 --> 00:09:59.840 But if you allow that hurt, pain, and trauma to turn into uh grief or anger or bitterness or uh shame, it will actually corrupt who you were created to be. 00:10:00.320 --> 00:10:16.080 And if you allow the things that have happened to you or even by you to reinforce your identity, then that identity will be corrupted and you'll lose that true identity that you've actually found in Christ. 00:10:16.240 --> 00:10:21.200 So he'll use hurt and pain, but he'll also use other people's opinions. 00:10:21.679 --> 00:10:28.399 And I hate to tell you this, but it's the truth, that people will lie to you. 00:10:28.960 --> 00:10:48.639 People will say things to you that aren't true, and it's their opinions that if you believe them, and they could be your peers, could be your parents, can even be friends in your life that speak to you and you believe them, it can shift your identity. 00:10:48.799 --> 00:10:55.840 They're just not true, and your identity will then be distorted as to who God has called you to be. 00:10:56.080 --> 00:11:17.039 He'll also use culture, he'll use the media, you'll watch movies and read books and go online, and all these things that are pressing on you in our culture are there to convince you to be something or become something that you were never created to be. 00:11:17.279 --> 00:11:25.440 So often I've seen young people scrolling through Instagram, and it's the same images, page by page by page. 00:11:25.679 --> 00:11:44.480 And those images, even though they may be harmless, are reinforcing an identity based on the culture, based on what they're seeing, based on media and movies and music and video, all those things make an impact. 00:11:44.799 --> 00:11:52.559 He'll also use the presence or the um the thoughts that become present in your mind. 00:11:53.200 --> 00:12:11.600 Your own mind will begin to tell you thoughts and give you uh thoughts, and they'll say things like, you're not good enough, or you're useless, or you're worthless, or you're a failure, and you just cannot believe even the thoughts that are going on in your own mind. 00:12:12.000 --> 00:12:24.159 He'll use lies that um you tell yourself and that you're not gifted, that you're not good enough, that you're worthless, and he'll even use your own feelings. 00:12:24.480 --> 00:12:37.679 And if I can teach you one thing today and just coach you one step closer here, it's that we need to leave that therefore it must be true. 00:12:47.840 --> 00:12:57.679 No, our feelings have to be recognized as either our friend or our foe, and the feelings have to be weighed against the word of God. 00:13:18.720 So if Satan can get you to believe thoughts about yourself, and you can realize this war that's happening inside your own soul, then he can distort your true identity. 00:13:18.960 --> 00:14:31.440 It's an absolutely essential perspective that we have to have in order to live a life well-lived, or else we're not going to find happiness, we won't find fulfillment, we'll drift, we'll 00:15:22.639 Apart from Jesus, we can't know the meaning of life, we can't know death, we don't know the meaning of God, we don't know ourselves. 00:15:22.960 --> 00:15:25.840 Everything revolves --> 00:16:14.799 And we're gonna take one passage of scripture in 1 Peter chapter 2, verses 9 and 10, and we're gonna look at five areas where uh five aspects and what God said, who God says we are. 00:16:14.879 --> 00:16:27.840 And just these five aspects, if you lean in and you embrace them and you secure them in your heart, and you begin to trust in them, it will change your life. 00:16:28.080 2, 9 and 10. 00:16:50.240 --> 00:17:09.599 It says, You are a chosen people, yes, you are, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of Him who our our our identity that I am completely accepted. 00:17:47.279 --> 00:17:56.720 This is so important to know this, because the deepest wounds in life often come from a place of rejection. 00:17:57.599 --> 00:18:02.400 And rejection hurts so much, and we've all experienced this. 00:18:02.640 --> 00:18:24.880 Rejection hurts so much that we spend much of our life uh trying to earn acceptance, trying to earn the acceptance that we uh from people, and we want to earn it from our parents, we want to earn it from our peers, we want to earn it from our boss, we want to earn it from our friends, we want to earn it from those we respect. 00:18:25.039 --> 00:18:33.039 We even want to earn it from those who uh who we envy, those who we want to accept us. 00:18:33.519 --> 00:18:37.359 And this drive to be accepted drives our choices. 00:18:37.599 --> 00:18:48.799 It drives what you wear, it drives what you drive, it drives what you buy, it drives the house you live in and the pre and the way you present yourself. 00:18:49.119 --> 00:18:54.880 So much of this is driven by the desire to be accepted. 00:18:55.200 --> 00:18:58.720 We do all kinds of things to earn this acceptance. 00:18:59.039 --> 00:19:05.839 And there's this pain, because there's a pain that we experience from not being accepted. 00:19:06.000 --> 00:19:24.240 And I don't know if you've ever experienced the pain when people were choosing in elementary school, you know, I choose you and I choose you, and I choose you, and you're the last one left on that on that team, and no one's chosen you, and that pain is real. 00:19:24.480 --> 00:19:25.920 That pain is there. 00:19:26.240 --> 00:19:38.000 And it makes such a difference as well when you actually experience self-worth, like when holy, you were found without fault in his eyes. 00:21:22.319 --> 00:21:34.799 Like before the world began, before there was a whale in the ocean, before there were stars in the sky or a sun in the
