just our head to our heart. 00:00:43.520 --> 00:01:03.920 Well, let me put it in a few other words as I've assessed uh the ministry over the last few weeks, from living a convenient life to a life that's based on conviction, from uh living a life that's based on feelings and emotion to a life that's that's built on the the word of God and fact. 00:01:04.319 --> 00:01:15.519 Uh live uh moving our our lives from uh philosophy into experiencing the power of our faith by acting on it, from talk to action. 00:01:15.840 --> 00:01:33.359 The kingdom of God is is spoken of as not being talk, but the kingdom of God is built upon the action that emerges from the anointing of the Holy Spirit working in God's people and expressing itself in the day-to-day uh experience. 00:01:33.840 --> 00:01:39.439 If there ever was a time where our faith needed to be energized, it's today. 00:01:40.079 --> 00:01:50.640 And in the times of crisis and personal challenge, I'm sure you have experienced as well as I, that what we truly believe actually starts to emerge. 00:01:50.719 --> 00:01:58.959 Uh and it becomes the critical point where we've got to we've got to become more than what we are for the day in which we're living. 00:01:59.120 --> 00:02:06.159 And and to do that, to get to that place, we actually need something extra special going on in us. 00:02:06.239 --> 00:02:19.439 And and that's why Brody has been talking about the issue of the anointing, because it's the anointing that can take us beyond our natural capacity and uh allow us to experience the supernatural. 00:02:20.479 --> 00:02:26.080 The word Christ comes from the Greek word Christos, and it literally means anointed one. 00:02:26.639 --> 00:02:36.560 Jesus is the is the term or the human name that was given to him by the angel uh Gabriel when he spoke to uh to Mary. 00:02:36.960 --> 00:02:43.919 But it Christ, the anointed one, is his title, and it signifies that he was sent from God. 00:02:44.159 --> 00:02:54.400 He was commissioned and anointed and consecrated to the Father to do those things that the Father had requested of him to do. 00:02:54.639 --> 00:02:59.280 And when we become a Christian, we become anointed ones. 00:02:59.520 --> 00:03:06.879 And that calling and consecration and commission that was on Jesus' life becomes a part of our life. 00:03:07.039 --> 00:03:11.520 And we begin --> 00:03:42.400 Even though we may not feel very special, the anointing actually supersedes our circumstantial problems and challenges and enables us to do those things that we could never have done, to know things we could never have known, to feel things that we've never felt before, to dream bigger than we've ever dreamed before. 00:03:42.639 --> 00:03:45.280 The anointing takes us to another level. 00:03:45.439 --> 00:03:49.919 And Jesus said, Greater is he that is in you than he is in the world. 00:03:50.159 --> 00:03:53.680 He said, You're gonna do even greater things than I did. 00:03:54.400 --> 00:03:59.039 The magnitude of the anointing in our personal lives can grow. 00:03:59.280 --> 00:04:05.919 And God wants us to plug in to the power of that anointing, especially for this day. 00:04:06.479 --> 00:04:32.160 Isaiah prophesied in chapter 61 about Christ's coming, and then live that out in the Gospels when we read of it in Matthew and also in Luke, that Christ went to be baptized by John in the river Jordan, and then but prior to that we don't see any record whatsoever of any supernatural activity flowing from Christ's life. 00:04:32.319 --> 00:04:34.480 Nothing is recorded in Scripture. 00:04:34.720 --> 00:04:51.120 But when he is baptized and the Holy Spirit comes upon him and then leads him into the wilderness to be tested and tempted by the devil, the Bible says he emerged out of that wilderness testing in the power of the Holy Spirit. 00:04:51.360 --> 00:04:57.920 That anointing came upon him to overcome the greatest test that he could possibly have faced. 00:04:58.240 --> 00:05:06.000 That anointing is a knowledge, a knowledge that's rooted into a relationship with God and the study of his word. 00:05:06.399 --> 00:05:17.439 And that anointing preserved Jesus in the midst of his greatest tests, and he came out of that desert in the power of the Spirit, endued by God. 00:05:17.759 --> 00:05:33.199 Then he went directly into the synagogue, or we could call the modern day church, and he sat down, opened the scriptures to Isaiah 61, and he said, Listen, the Spirit of the Lord is upon me, and he has anointed me. 00:05:33.439 --> 00:05:46.480 And he uh after he outlined the scope of that anointing, uh, he put the book down, and everyone was amazed that that scripture was being fulfilled in Christ at that moment in time. 00:05:46.800 --> 00:05:53.040 Luke 4 makes it clear that when he left the synagogue, that anointing followed him. 00:05:53.279 --> 00:05:57.920 And the first thing that was encountered was in verse 33 and 35. 00:05:58.079 --> 00:06:01.519 There was a man who was imprisoned by hate and anger. 00:06:01.759 --> 00:06:04.959 He was demonized, and Jesus set him free. 00:06:05.199 --> 00:06:09.839 The next thing, he goes to Simon's mot uh Simon's mother-in-law's home. 00:06:10.079 --> 00:06:13.519 She has got a tremendous fever. 00:06:13.759 --> 00:06:18.160 He prays for her, and she's released from that fever and healed. 00:06:18.560 --> 00:06:34.319 Then he starts preaching to anyone that will listen, and he went everywhere he could with the good news of what it meant to have God on your side, working with you on a day-to-day basis, and he called it the good news, the gospel of the kingdom. 00:06:34.560 --> 00:06:40.879 Uh, this he did under the anointing of the Holy Spirit. 00:06:41.279 --> 00:06:48.480 So we've been called to represent Jesus or to represence him in our world. 00:06:48.720 --> 00:07:08.720 And as Jesus was in his world, so we are to be in our world, not trying to imitate his person or his works, but to depend upon the help and the anointing of the Holy Spirit to do the same things that Jesus did and to become like Jesus. 00:07:09.040 --> 00:07:31.199 The anointing takes us beyond our natural abilities and understanding, and it moves us into things that uh we could never have done in our own natural power, to know things that we couldn't know, and to become something or someone that we probably would not have become outside of the anointing. 00:07:31.519 --> 00:07:42.879 And it's not by might, the Bible says, it's not through power, but it's through this anointing in the Holy Spirit that all of our Christian life should occur. 00:07:43.120 --> 00:07:47.360 Let me just give you a little illustration of something about the anointing. 00:07:47.439 --> 00:08:14.000 When I was in Taiwan a number of years ago, I was asked to speak in a in a uh pastor's church, which is basically a street church, and it was filled with probably three, four hundred uh very young uh leaders, and um I had never met the pastor, uh, but I had responded to the request and came that day, sat at the very front of the church and and then was asked to come up and preach, and I started to minister. 00:08:14.079 --> 00:08:21.600 And as I ministered, there was a lady that was wheeled in on a stretcher right in front of me and placed before the front row. 00:08:21.920 --> 00:08:40.320 And uh, while I was speaking, again, there was a knowledge which I called the anointing of the Holy Spirit that God gave in a moment of time to help me understand my circumstance, and he put a thought in my mind that was a knowing, I knew that I knew that I knew it was God. 00:08:40.480 --> 00:08:51.440 And I looked at this woman who was laying stra uh uh flat on the stretcher, and I said, uh, by the this time uh next year, you will have a child. 00:08:51.759 --> 00:08:55.759 I I've I didn't know that she was pregnant or not pregnant. 00:08:55.919 --> 00:08:59.840 I just knew that I had the authority of the Holy Spirit to say that. 00:09:00.080 --> 00:09:08.720 Well, I was not, I was surprised by her response because she immediately got out of the stretcher and sat down on the front row. 00:09:08.879 --> 00:09:14.720 And at the end of the meeting, I went up to her and greeted her, and she said, I'm the pastor of the church. 00:09:14.879 --> 00:09:24.240 And for the last numbers of years, about five, six years, we've been having to have children, and each time we I've I've failed to deliver a child. 00:09:24.480 --> 00:09:36.399 And um we've been uh we've been talking with our doctors, and the doctors basically said, if you don't want to lose this child, you're gonna have to lay flat on your back for the rest of the pregnancy. 00:09:36.559 --> 00:09:41.679 And she said, But you spoke something, and I felt the anointing of the Holy Spirit. 00:09:41.840 --> 00:09:47.440 I believe it, and as a result of it, I'm not gonna lay here, I'm gonna trust God. 00:09:47.600 --> 00:10:03.360 Well, a year later I was back in Taipei, in Taiwan, and I met with her and her husband, and I had a chance to baptize a little baby boy that they called Dawei, which means David in English translation. 00:10:03.600 --> 00:10:08.960 So what I'm saying to you is that the anointing shifts and changes your life. 00:10:09.120 --> 00:10:31.519 And when you start knowing things by the Holy Spirit, some would call it a word of knowledge, others would call it an intuition that is spiritual and substantial, uh, but there's a fruit, a recognition that God is behind it, and there is a witness to your own heart and spirit that what you're receiving is from the Lord. 00:10:31.679 --> 00:10:38.639 Well, God wants an activated church flowing in the power of the anointing. 00:10:38.960 --> 00:10:55.519 So when I look at Isaiah 61, particularly, that is the mandate of Kelowna Christian Center right from its inception, uh, it's very clear in that portion of Scripture that there is a there is a sphere of influence that the anointing has. 00:10:55.919 --> 00:11:05.840 And uh Jesus said that, for example, his disciples in John, anyone who believes in me will also do the things that I do, and he will do even greater things. 00:11:06.080 --> 00:11:20.080 Well, when I look at the dynamics of Isaiah 61 and what God says the anointing will help us do, that's powerful, and I want to speak to a little a little bit about that this today. 00:11:20.480 --> 00:11:24.559 Uh so the question, I guess, before I go into that is do you believe? 00:11:25.039 --> 00:11:46.159 The greatest distance in people's lives, uh, the greatest distance in life the person can travel is not to the moon and back, but the greatest distance is the distance between the head and the heart, moving what you know into action, moving what you believe into a place of conviction in the heart. 00:11:46.399 --> 00:11:50.960 And that's how God wants your personal relationship to Him to be. 00:11:51.200 --> 00:12:04.720 He wants it to be substantial and intimate, He wants you to embrace it and experience the power of what it's like to walk with Him on a day-to-day basis, led by the Holy Spirit. 00:12:05.279 --> 00:12:16.159 So in Isaiah 61, God outlines a few things that Jesus was anointed to do, and I want to comment that this day to you. 00:12:16.480 --> 00:12:20.720 He said, You were going to receive an anointing to preach good news. 00:12:20.879 --> 00:12:25.200 Well, we could sure use a whole lot more good news in the day in which we're living. 00:12:25.440 --> 00:12:34.720 The word good news there is bazar in the Hebrew, and it means to bring good news, and especially pertaining to a military victory. 00:12:35.039 --> 00:12:39.519 So when a victory is announced, we've had victory over our enemy. 00:12:39.759 --> 00:12:41.919 Man, everybody goes crazy in a nation. 00:12:42.720 --> 00:12:44.080 We've had a victory. 00:12:44.399 --> 00:12:54.000 But Calvary was a battle of galactic proportions where the God of this world was defeated by Jesus Christ. 00:12:54.240 --> 00:12:58.240 And the enemy's hold over humanity was broken. 00:12:58.639 --> 00:13:08.399 It was the world's D-Day and V day altogether, not on the beaches of Normandy for World War II, but in the hearts and minds of people. 00:13:08.960 --> 00:13:14.639 The world has got to know that the enemy of their soul has been defeated. 00:13:15.120 --> 00:13:20.159 And the good, God says, we've been anointed to preach this good news. 00:13:20.320 --> 00:13:22.799 It's not just the preacher in the pulpit. 00:13:22.960 --> 00:13:39.360 Every one of us are called to be a minister, a preacher, an expounder of the good news of this victory and what that victory actually looks like and means to us when Jesus has defeated our greatest enemy and given us victory. 00:13:39.600 --> 00:13:41.279 The world needs to know it. used to pick up books from the library and read them, and I remember getting this book by uh on Lieutenant Hiru Onada, who is an intelligence officer for the Japanese Army during World War II. 00:14:02.720 --> 00:14:11.279 And uh it tells the story about how he and a few of his friends did not believe that the war, World War II, was over. 00:14:11.519 --> 00:14:22.720 And for 29 years after the peace had been established, they continued to fight the war against the United States in the Philippines. 00:14:22.960 --> 00:14:24.879 I find that tragic. 00:14:25.200 --> 00:14:41.519 And uh the story goes on to say that he would not end his battle or his fight until his actually his commanding officer met him in the jungle and ordered him to surrender his sword and c and and and uh come out. 00:14:42.159 --> 00:14:58.799 Um the world needs to understand that Jesus has fought an incredible fight and battle on our behalf, and the good news that's out there is that Jesus has already defeated the enemy on your behalf. 00:14:59.039 --> 00:15:05.440 And if you'll believe in him and accept that as the truth, victory in your life can be had. 00:15:05.679 --> 00:15:24.879 Now, the Bible says we're anointed to preach that, meaning this, that when we speak that word, the Holy Spirit begins to come and attaches his anointing to that word, and it penetrates the hearts of people, and they go, I believe it. 00:15:25.120 --> 00:15:30.000 Faith rises in their heart to actually believe that that's true for them. 00:15:30.159 --> 00:15:46.000 Uh, the Holy Spirit works with the truth of the word of God and the pronunciation of the word that we're bringing uh out to people and sets people free and gives them a hope that there is something more than what they're encountering right now. 00:15:46.320 --> 00:15:52.240 So God has called you and anointed you and commissioned you to preach the good news. 00:15:52.559 --> 00:15:58.720 People need to hear about it, lest they have to go on walk in the in the fear of this warfare that I'm going on, uh, that is experiencing. 00:16:24.000 --> 00:16:29.759 The second thing that he talks about here is to bring this good news to the meek. 00:16:29.919 --> 00:16:34.559 Now, the word meek here means uh in the Hebrew hopeless. 00:16:35.360 --> 00:16:36.559 This word is unique. 00:16:36.720 --> 00:16:48.000 It refers to relief for those who've been crushed, who have lost hope and heart, and think there's nothing left in life for them. 00:16:48.559 --> 00:16:57.279 God says you need to preach the good news to those whose hearts have been crushed by the world's circumstances. 00:16:57.519 --> 00:17:20.880 The Bible says that anointing has the power to break that yoke of hopelessness that is settled upon people's hearts, and that despair that de-energizes them and causes them to want to give up in life, and it has the power to lift them up out of the control of experiences that have crushed them and give them hope again. 00:17:21.279 --> 00:17:23.759 Paul said, We had no hope. 00:17:24.000 --> 00:17:24.720 Remember that? 00:17:24.880 --> 00:17:26.319 We were a people without hope. 00:17:26.400 --> 00:17:28.000 We had of all hope has arrived on the scene and is there to break up our hopelessness and despair and bring us out of it. 00:17:47.279 --> 00:17:48.559 How does he do that? 00:17:48.720 --> 00:17:50.160 Through the anointing. 00:17:50.319 --> 00:17:52.079 How does that happen through us? 00:17:52.240 --> 00:18:01.599 Well, it means that we speak life and hope into people's lives and remind them that and it's like you were talking into a hollow soul. 00:18:31.920 --> 00:18:41.119 And yet when you began to speak the word of God under the anointing, all of a sudden light light came into their eyes and hope came in and the tears began to flow. 00:18:41.200 --> 00:18:44.640 And all of a sudden there was a shift in their consciousness. 00:18:44.799 --> 00:18:58.880 Uh, and it really was happening not because of the words that I was saying, it was happening because the Holy Spirit and I were working together under the anointing to break the power of despair and depression over someone's life. 00:18:59.039 --> 00:19:01.680 And they left the office in joy. 00:19:02.160 --> 00:19:17.279 And we have people in this church that had gone down significant roads of depression in their life and never been able to break through in their own power, but under the anointing of the Holy Spirit, they were set free. 00:19:17.599 --> 00:19:40.079 That is the calling resting upon the church to use the anointing that is permanently on the inside of us, that knowledge that we know that we know that we know, the ability to speak the word of God and have God confirm it in power and break people free into a place where they're experiencing true deliverance. 00:19:40.319 --> 00:19:46.000 There's a third thing that's in Isaiah 61, and it's an anointing to heal the broken heart. 00:19:46.799 --> 00:19:50.880 Broken hearts lead to broken lives. 00:19:51.279 --> 00:20:02.559 When we are broken by life circumstances, we feel shattered, damaged, violated, trodden underfoot, bankrupt, cut off, without strength. 00:20:03.119 --> 00:20:08.400 That's some of the dynamics of that word in the Hebrew of the broken heart. 00:20:08.640 --> 00:20:15.680 There are some wounds that go absolutely so deep that there's no person that can heal themselves. 00:20:15.920 --> 00:20:25.599 It's almost like that little child's lyrics of Humpty Dumpty who sat on the wall and had a great fall and no one could put him back together again. 00:20:25.839 --> 00:20:30.079 Well, that's that's the state of many people without Christ. 00:20:30.319 --> 00:20:44.480 They cannot put themselves together, even with all the self-help therapy that's out there, all the counseling that's out there, they don't know themselves like God knows them because God created them. 00:20:44.799 --> 00:20:49.200 He knows them uh you know uh personally. 00:20:49.359 --> 00:20:51.119 It's not an impersonal creation. 00:20:51.359 --> 00:20:58.640 God put you together, he knows all about you, and he knows how to fix what 00:21:16.079 So when the get up and go is gone, where does one go to get back together again? 00:21:16.319 --> 00:21:23.200 Well, there is healing for the heart under the power of the anointing. 00:21:24.000 --> 00:21:27.839 That anointing carries with it words of life. 00:21:28.160 --> 00:21:56.240 That all of a sudden, people who have been controlled by regret and unforgiveness and bitterness and hurt and pain for what other people have done to them, and their world has been contained and controlled, God comes alongside under the anointing and breaks through and heals that which is crushed inside and gives us hope to be able to get up the next day and believe a better day is ahead of us. 00:21:56.559 --> 00:22:00.880 That happens under the anointing of the Holy Spirit. Don't surrender to that spirit of depression. 00:22:22.319 --> 00:22:29.920 Surrender to the anointing and the spirit that can bring you out of that depression and heal your heart. 00:22:30.319 --> 00:22:35.839 He also says that the anointing has been given to us to open blind eyes. 00:22:36.079 --> 00:22:41.119 Now I believe that there's nothing more precious in life than sight. 00:22:41.759 --> 00:22:59.519 And while the loss of physical blindness or physical sight is a tragedy, I've dealt with for almost 50 years of my life the fact that there is moral and spiritual blindness that carries with it a tragedy as well. 00:22:59.839 --> 00:23:04.319 The Bible makes it clear that the human state is willfully dark. 00:23:04.960 --> 00:23:07.680 They have chosen to live in the dark. 00:23:07.839 --> 00:23:09.519 Jesus himself said this. 00:23:18.640 --> 00:23:26.240 Paul confirms that and says the God of this world has blinded the minds of them who do not believe. 00:23:26.559 --> 00:23:33.359 So we're dealing with a spirit of blindness that is in our culture and society today. 00:23:33.599 --> 00:23:40.240 Blindness sometimes occurs from other circumstances, sometimes from internal sins. 00:23:40.480 --> 00:23:44.319 But you don't have to grope your way through life. 00:23:45.279 --> 00:23:52.319 Through the anointing, the Bible says that our eyes can be flooded with this for all this time and believing this for all this time, I now recognize it to be a law, a lie. 00:24:08.160 --> 00:24:12.319 I recognize it to be something that was deceitful and manipulative in my life. 00:24:12.480 --> 00:24:28.559 And all of a sudden the lights turn on, and we begin to realize under the power of the anointing, breaking through into our heart of hearts, breaking through of us this yoke of blindness. 00:24:48.480 --> 00:25:02.240 It's important for us to realize that God doesn't want his people in servitude to anything, bound, addicted, broken, hurt, uh, unholy. anointing is there to set at liberty those who are bruised. 00:25:27.519 --> 00:25:45.200 The Hebrew word for bruising means, or liberty means to buy back someone, to bring them to safety from a place of danger, to break the trap or the snare that they're in, to deliver them from the possibilities of death, those who have been bruised. 00:25:45.599 --> 00:25:47.759 Well, we're living in the Okanagan. 00:25:47.920 --> 00:25:51.200 We all understand what happens when fruit gets bruised. 00:25:51.440 --> 00:25:57.680 An apple gets bruised, you can take it home, uh, sit it on your table with a number of other fruit. 00:25:57.920 --> 00:26:08.319 And uh, it's not long if there's a bruise on that apple that ultimately that bruise begins to work itself into the very core of that apple. 00:26:08.720 --> 00:26:11.759 The same thing happens in life with us. 00:26:12.240 --> 00:26:20.880 When we're bruised through our own sin, bruised through circumstances, bruised from other people, uh
