called us to do. 00:01:56.159 --> 00:02:10.000 I think one of those things is that prayer for part of it may be an untapped resource, it's kind of like an unexplored part of the ocean that maybe we 00:02:20.800 --> 00:02:31.039 Prayer is something that should be as natural to us as eating, or as breathing, or as walking, or maybe walking and chewing gum at the same time, if you can do that. 00:02:31.280 --> 00:02:37.199 Sometimes it seems that we use prayer as a break in case of an emergency mentality. 00:02:37.360 --> 00:02:39.120 That's the kind of perspective that we have. in my own life, as well as maybe some of yours, is that prayer is often associated with only crisis. 00:02:53.919 --> 00:02:59.759 For instance, I heard a story the other day about a man who had uh he was flying a small plane and he called the control tower. 00:03:00.000 --> 00:03:06.960 He says the pilot to tower, I'm 300 miles out from the airport, 600 feet above the ground, and I am almost out of fuel. 00:03:07.120 --> 00:03:09.759 I'm descending rapidly, please advise over. 00:03:10.000 --> 00:03:15.919 Tower to pilot says, the dispatcher says, Repeat after me, our father who art in heaven. 00:03:16.719 --> 00:03:23.199 We oftentimes carry the mentality and perspective that the only time I'm gonna pray is if I'm in trouble. 00:03:23.439 --> 00:03:33.919 Um, and what I'm gonna speak today, I think is maybe a simple message, but I I felt even I was I've heard this before, I've researched this before, but I got some really cool things out of Genesis today. 00:03:34.080 --> 00:03:35.840 But I want us to refocus. 00:03:36.000 --> 00:03:39.360 We've done these 21 days of prayer, we've prayed in, out, and up. 00:03:39.680 --> 00:03:43.280 We want to refocus our life into a life of prayer. 00:03:43.439 --> 00:03:47.919 Um and, you know, as a church, we've there's seven different kinds of prayer. 00:03:48.000 --> 00:03:55.439 I could walk you through communion or what the prayer of spiritual warfare looks like or or the or repentance or forgiveness. 00:03:55.520 --> 00:03:57.120 There's all kinds of different prayers. 00:03:57.280 --> 00:04:04.800 But and if we think about it, prayer is one of the most mentioned or talked about subjects possibly in church. 00:04:04.960 --> 00:04:14.479 If you've ever been to KCC or to our campus, we start with prayer, we have prayer in the middle, then we have prayer at the end, and then after church is over, there's more prayer. 00:04:14.719 --> 00:04:17.120 We talk about prayer all the time. 00:04:17.680 --> 00:04:21.199 We pray after worship, we pray, we pray, we pray. 00:04:21.519 --> 00:04:30.480 And as I was thinking about this, I'm like, you know, prayer may be one of the most important gifts God gave us, other did on the cross, and that's the last experience that we ever have. 00:04:42.000 --> 00:04:48.800 He's not just a statue, he's not a cross on the wall, but he's a living God that we actually get to 00:05:04.079 --> 00:05:17.199 I can say that after I want more prayer, I want more prayer in my own life, I want more prayer in church, I want more prayer in our homes, in our families, in our cars, in our schools. 00:05:17.360 --> 00:05:20.800 We need to be a people of prayer, but we need more prayer. 00:05:21.680 --> 00:05:30.639 The thought came to me as I was reading some of the scriptures about Jesus as he was praying, he prayed continuingly, continuously, constantly, earnestly. 00:05:30.800 --> 00:05:35.120 He knelt down to prayer, he rose to pray, he prayed in the dark, he prayed in the daytime. 00:05:35.600 --> 00:05:39.439 Jesus was God in the flesh, walking the earth. 00:05:39.600 --> 00:05:47.199 Jesus was so dependent on prayer for his ministry that he didn't do his ministry without prayer to his father. 00:05:48.480 --> 00:05:54.720 Sometimes, really, we are in the position to live life without prayer. 00:05:55.040 --> 00:05:57.120 Especially in the Western culture. 00:05:57.279 --> 00:05:58.240 It's so easy for us. 00:05:58.319 --> 00:06:06.079 I can get food when I want, I have a job, I can have a cell phone, everything is handed to me, and there's not a whole lot of dependence on prayer. 00:06:07.920 --> 00:06:12.399 But what we do in the moment when things get tough. 00:06:13.360 --> 00:06:19.839 So I want to follow us in this is that we know that we need to pray, but sometimes we just don't. 00:06:20.079 --> 00:06:27.839 It's inconvenient, maybe it's not as fun as we want it to be, maybe it's you find it just a real drudgery to sit down and just try and communicate and listen. 00:06:28.079 --> 00:06:30.879 But here's something that I learned out of Genesis chapter 3, verse 8. 00:06:31.040 --> 00:06:36.319 It says, And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day. 00:06:36.480 --> 00:06:42.079 And the man and his wife hid himself from the presence of God, or presence of the Lord God, among the trees of the garden. 00:06:42.560 --> 00:06:47.360 This is an interesting bit because this is the first clue that we had that God came down. 00:06:47.439 --> 00:06:50.319 There was a pattern in this moment, there was a discipline. 00:06:50.560 --> 00:06:52.240 There is something that we can pull from this. 00:06:52.319 --> 00:06:56.560 The scripture says walking, not running, not sprinting, not kneeling. 00:06:56.720 --> 00:06:57.680 He was walking. 00:06:57.839 --> 00:07:01.519 It implies ease, it implies a steady progression. 00:07:01.759 --> 00:07:06.639 The key to a relationship with God is a daily walk with him. 00:07:07.759 --> 00:07:09.120 A daily walk with him. 00:07:09.279 --> 00:07:15.439 It's not those who can sprint, it's not those who can go all out all the time, it's those who go wide open. 00:07:15.680 --> 00:07:21.519 It's the key to having a powerful relationship and communication with God is the daily walking. 00:07:21.759 --> 00:07:34.639 It's the daily praying, it's the daily reading of the word, it's the daily seeking of Him, it's the consistency of those things, consistency of walking and talking and communicating with God. 00:07:36.000 --> 00:07:39.519 Think about it this way: the verse in Genesis says, in the cool of day. 00:07:39.680 --> 00:07:45.680 That implies to me anyway, as I live in Kelowna, that the cool of day is a comfortable spot. 00:07:46.160 --> 00:07:49.839 We think of it as a refreshing place to go when things are hard. 00:07:50.000 --> 00:07:58.079 And I think I needed to shift my perspective that when things are good and there's not a lot of pressures from the outside world, that that actually is a place of refreshing. 00:07:58.240 --> 00:08:09.519 In that time, we can spend time getting to know God and refreshing ourselves so when the heat comes around, the heat of life, the pressures of things happen, we are actually refreshed and ready to take on those things. 00:08:09.759 --> 00:08:15.120 When you come to Him in prayer, He says, I will ease your burden. 00:08:15.360 --> 00:08:16.959 I will free you from that burden. 00:08:17.120 --> 00:08:22.399 I will carry your weight, I will break that chain of fear or abandonment or anxiety or depression. 00:08:22.639 --> 00:08:27.279 I will come where you are and make that place a refreshing place. 00:08:27.759 --> 00:08:30.000 That's a communication between you and God. 00:08:30.079 --> 00:08:32.080 That is a promise that he says. 00:08:32.559 --> 00:08:41.200 He will release us from those things that we carry, those things right now that you're carrying that you're --> 00:08:55.600 The amazing thing about prayer and communicating with God is that we don't have to climb the highest mountain or get on a ladder or stand on the top of the house. 00:08:55.919 --> 00:09:00.320 He comes down to where we are to meet with us in that moment. 00:09:00.960 --> 00:09:06.080 The God that died on the cross for our sins, that's the creator of the universe, wants to know have no kids, which means no problems. 00:09:39.360 --> 00:09:47.759 They have no stress, they have no sickness, they have no financial needs, they have no dilemmas, they have no loud neighbors next didn't have to hear the voice from on high. 00:10:05.759 --> 00:10:12.799 When we make time and we pray, we seek after him, he says, I will meet you where you are. 00:10:13.039 --> 00:10:24.720 No matter the issues, no matter the situations, the weight that you're carrying, the things that are happening in the middle of all of COVID, he will come to you when you carve out that time and you pray. 00:10:25.759 --> 00:10:30.159 The beginning of prayer, the goal of prayer at the very beginning was just to be with God. 00:10:30.320 --> 00:10:41.519 We didn't have to complicate it with all the extras and this and the these and the thou's and all the things that maybe you think prayer is, but the beginning, the goal of prayer is just to connect with God. 00:10:42.240 --> 00:10:46.240 going to stay there until you search him out. 00:11:02.720 --> 00:11:10.320 And oftentimes we blame God because you send up the prayer flare, you broke the glass, things didn't go the way that you wanted. 00:11:10.559 --> 00:11:17.039 And you created this situation, that situation is of your design, not God's, but we blame him, so we stop praying. 00:11:17.840 --> 00:11:21.279 We're not maybe carving out time the way we feel that we should. 00:11:21.600 --> 00:11:34.240 I can say that even as I was thinking about this social media or TV, prime time, Instagram, whatever it may be, that's with the Father, that what we do is meshed together, that I think like him, I love like him, I forgive like him, I act like him, I live like him, and I serve like him because we are one. 00:12:36.879 oftentimes we remember to pray and be thankful in the good times, but when the moment that the bad times come, we actually stop being grateful and maybe forget that God is good. 00:15:27.519 -->
