caught in that place where they are striving in their own energy to move life forward when God has given us a way to move by positioning our sail and catching the wind, the fresh wind of his spirit. 00:04:27.600 And the Holy Spirit, he's the third person in the Trinity. 00:04:27.839 --> 00:04:41.040 Now, the Trinity is something that many people may not be comfortable with discussing, but really it's three parts of God in one, considered to be one. 00:04:41.360 --> 00:04:45.600 And they're made up of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. 00:04:45.839 --> 00:04:48.560 Now, the Father we're comfortable with. 00:04:48.879 --> 00:04:50.800 Last week we had Father's Day. 00:04:51.040 --> 00:04:53.519 Many of us know how to relate to a Father. 00:04:53.839 --> 00:05:02.319 We realize and recognize who and what a Father is and how he functions in an individual's life. 00:05:02.480 --> 00:05:05.920 And we're comfortable with Jesus as the Son. 00:05:06.560 --> 00:05:09.360 We know what He may have looked like. 00:05:09.519 --> 00:05:21.120 We've perhaps recognized and seen his birth at Christmas, all through his ministry, to the day he was crucified and then rose from the grave. 00:05:21.279 --> 00:05:28.160 We hear his stories, we've seen movies and heard the children's stories about who he is. 00:05:28.319 --> 00:05:34.560 We become familiar to who he is because he was like a man, walked the earth. 00:05:34.879 --> 00:05:44.399 But when it comes to the Holy Spirit, many people struggle with realizing and relating to the Holy Spirit. 00:05:45.680 --> 00:05:51.360 Some people have called it a spirit, or even the Bible talks about him as a ghost. 00:05:51.439 --> 00:05:57.040 And we think, well, we don't want to relate to a ghost, and we don't want to relate to a spirit. 00:05:57.519 --> 00:06:00.879 It's just uncomfortable to use those terminology. 00:06:01.040 --> 00:06:05.279 So how do you relate to Holy Spirit? 00:06:06.560 --> 00:06:13.360 A lot of that is our conflict, is related actually to our English verbiage. 00:06:13.839 --> 00:06:22.639 And I want to discuss with you today the importance of actually realizing and recognizing who the Holy Spirit is. 00:06:23.439 --> 00:06:32.079 The Bible was written in its original context based upon the language of the Hebrew people. 00:06:32.480 --> 00:06:38.879 The Old Testament particularly, and the New Testament was written with a lot of Greek. 00:06:39.279 --> 00:06:48.480 And over 800 times in Scripture, the word spirit is used and described either spirit or ghost. 00:06:48.800 --> 00:06:58.800 And it wasn't really the translators' fault as they were translating spirit, ghost, and the Hebrew words for they were trying in the translation. 00:06:58.879 --> 00:07:01.120 It wasn't their fault in trying to find a word. 00:07:01.439 --> 00:07:08.079 There just wasn't a word that accurately described what they were trying to discuss. 00:07:09.519 --> 00:07:15.279 And so it was their best attempt, but we're going to go back to the beginning. 00:07:15.439 --> 00:07:17.600 We're going to go back to the Hebrew word. 00:07:17.839 --> 00:07:20.720 We're going to do just a little bit of a study today. 00:07:21.279 --> 00:07:26.480 Starting with the Hebrew word for spirit is the word ruach. 00:07:27.040 --> 00:07:32.319 Now it's Hebrew, so you have to make that sound, that guttural sound at the end. 00:07:32.639 --> 00:07:38.160 But that word means spirit or wind or breath. 00:07:38.959 --> 00:07:43.360 It means a violent exaltation, a blast of breath. 00:07:43.519 --> 00:07:53.439 I think about it like a fog horn on a big ship, where you can actually, the sound of the ship's horn goes off, but you feel it in your chest. 00:07:54.000 --> 00:07:57.439 It's a blast of air that affects you. 00:07:57.600 --> 00:08:14.319 Maybe perhaps you enjoyed going out for Father's Day, shooting at targets with rifles, and you've heard that sound go off, and you feel the reverberation of that blast of air that comes from that explosion from that rifle. 00:08:14.560 --> 00:08:22.639 That's the same breath, that's the same blast of air that is referred to as the spirit. 00:08:22.720 --> 00:08:26.079 It's the ruach, it's that ruach spirit. 00:08:26.160 --> 00:08:45.120 And we read about it first in Genesis chapter 1, verse 2, where it says, the earth was formless and empty, and darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the spirit of God, the ruach of God, was hovering over the waters. 00:08:45.360 --> 00:08:47.279 Now, what did this look like? 00:08:48.480 --> 00:09:04.399 It literally means when God spoke, out of his mouth there was a violent blast, and his violent blast created trees, it created fish, it out of that violent blast, lands and mountains were formed. 00:09:04.639 --> 00:09:12.879 And his breath, that breath, when he spoke a word, that breath was charged with life. 00:09:14.159 --> 00:09:18.399 And when he said, Let there be light, there was light. 00:09:19.039 --> 00:09:23.039 And when he spoke, things came into existence. 00:09:23.919 --> 00:09:26.000 Nature began to come into existence. 00:09:26.240 --> 00:09:28.000 Stars were set in the sky. 00:09:28.240 --> 00:09:30.879 It was a wondrous, amazing moment. 00:09:31.440 --> 00:09:38.399 Whales were born, and fish and starfish and the creatures of the sea came alive. 00:09:38.559 --> 00:09:40.080 It was an incredible moment. 00:09:40.240 --> 00:09:48.480 When he spoke, there was a blast of air and the breath created life. 00:09:49.679 --> 00:09:56.559 It really is important if we're going to relate to him this way, that we relate to him as this wind. 00:09:57.039 --> 00:10:02.799 We relate to him as this blast of fresh air that brings life to us. 00:10:03.600 --> 00:10:04.720 Now imagine that. 00:10:29.840 --> 00:10:35.679 It reinforces the reality of the Trinity as a family unit. 00:10:36.000 --> 00:10:40.559 We have the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. 00:10:40.799 --> 00:10:43.120 The Holy Spirit sets the environment. 00:10:43.279 --> 00:10:49.519 The Holy Spirit creates the nature and the environment of the world. 00:10:49.759 --> 00:10:52.080 So where do you need this life? 00:10:52.399 --> 00:11:03.759 And I asked this today because in our life, if you catch yourself in the doldrums, you've been sitting at home, you've been in this environment that's really uncertain. 00:11:04.080 --> 00:11:07.039 Where do you want this blast of life? 00:11:07.279 --> 00:11:12.159 Where do you want this space to invade your home? 00:11:13.120 --> 00:11:15.919 In the New Testament, the word is pneuma. 00:11:17.279 --> 00:11:24.080 It's a Greek word, and it means a current of air, a blast or a breath, a strong breeze. 00:11:24.320 --> 00:11:26.320 And it is not a ghost. 00:11:26.559 --> 00:11:30.320 See, both of these words are neither ghost nor spirit. 00:11:30.559 --> 00:11:34.480 They're wind, they're breath, they're a blast of air. 00:11:34.799 --> 00:11:39.759 So every time you read the word spirit, it really means breath. 00:11:40.879 --> 00:11:42.960 That's what the Holy Spirit came to do. 00:11:43.120 --> 00:11:48.720 He came to breathe life into our religious experiences. 00:11:49.679 --> 00:11:52.399 To cause them to come alive. 00:11:53.679 --> 00:11:55.120 So why all the mystery? 00:11:55.279 --> 00:11:57.200 Why is it so hard to relate? 00:11:57.759 --> 00:12:05.679 John 6.63 says this, and this is really important, is that it's the Spirit that gives life. 00:12:06.080 --> 00:12:08.240 The Spirit gives life. 00:12:08.480 --> 00:12:15.120 And it's the wind of God, it's that wind that brings life into our environment. 00:12:15.279 --> 00:12:24.559 A lot of people will look to money and to fame and to education and to influence to find life. 00:12:24.960 --> 00:12:32.960 But the fact is, life is not found in those things, into good looks and the areas of vanity. 00:12:33.840 --> 00:12:36.159 Those areas will not provide life. 00:12:36.320 --> 00:12:44.000 In fact, we see people who have money and have all the things in life, and they don't have that life. 00:12:44.240 --> 00:12:47.200 And so their perspective is just get more. 00:12:48.080 --> 00:12:49.519 Just find more. 00:12:49.840 --> 00:12:55.759 And the more you have, then maybe you'll reach that space where you actually have life. 00:12:56.960 --> 00:13:00.240 But the Bible says it's the Spirit who gives life. 00:13:00.559 --> 00:13:04.480 The flesh literally counts for nothing. 00:13:05.919 --> 00:13:08.480 If you want life, you need the Spirit. 00:13:08.639 --> 00:13:12.000 Now I'm going to ask you at home, how many of you want life? 00:13:12.240 --> 00:13:32.879 How many of you want this life in your sail, that energy in your step, that spark in your heart that translates, that gives you the smile and the sparkle in your eye that causes you to be attractive in an unrealistic, supernatural way? 00:13:34.399 --> 00:13:36.159 It's this wind of God. 00:13:36.320 --> 00:13:38.159 It's this breath of God. 00:13:39.360 --> 00:13:47.120 So if we're stuck, and that makes sense, what does it take to want to preach and I'd want you to hear, it would be this message. 00:14:12.159 --> 00:14:14.960 What the Spirit does is bring life. 00:14:15.120 --> 00:14:17.840 What the flesh does does nothing. 00:14:18.080 --> 00:14:20.799 So Jesus is saying there's a secret. 00:14:21.039 --> 00:14:30.320 And the secret is if you want this life, it's in his words, it's in the scripture, it's in this relationship with Holy Spirit. 00:14:31.039 --> 00:14:35.440 The Bible is more than just great ideas for us. 00:14:35.519 --> 00:14:41.039 It's more than just something for us to contemplate and consider and read to bring encouragement. 00:14:41.200 --> 00:14:44.000 The Bible is actually the words of life. 00:14:44.320 --> 00:14:55.679 They contain the breath of God, they contain this wind of God that will help motivate and encourage and build you up and move you from one point to another. 00:14:56.000 --> 00:15:00.559 Even over unsurmountable obstacles. 00:15:01.200 --> 00:15:06.399 We can turn to the word and the word will encourage us and move us forward. 00:15:06.960 --> 00:15:09.600 So those words contain this wind. 00:15:10.159 --> 00:15:12.639 But this wind is hard to describe. 00:15:13.039 --> 00:15:19.200 It would be like trying to describe wind to someone who's only been indoors. 00:15:20.080 --> 00:15:22.799 Only experience has been indoors. 00:15:22.960 --> 00:15:26.480 For them to be able to experience wind, how would you explain it? 00:15:26.720 --> 00:15:33.519 And you might be like, well, it's like uh, or it's like uh, huh? 00:15:33.759 --> 00:15:40.879 You just want to take them outside on a windy day and say, this is what it's like. 00:15:41.039 --> 00:15:45.759 But I'm gonna do my best just to help you experience it today. 00:15:45.919 --> 00:15:50.240 The first thing I want you to know about this wind is that the wind is unseen. 00:15:51.120 --> 00:15:53.279 It's something that we cannot see. 00:15:53.440 --> 00:15:59.600 You couldn't explain the wind because the wind doesn't have color, it doesn't have shape, it doesn't have design. 00:15:59.840 --> 00:16:01.519 In fact, it's invisible. 00:16:01.679 --> 00:16:05.440 You can see the effect of the wind, but you can't see the wind. 00:16:05.759 --> 00:16:08.240 The wind of God is much like this. 00:16:08.480 --> 00:16:09.759 It is unseen. 00:16:10.159 --> 00:16:15.039 And for many people that's a problem because we like to see things. 00:16:15.279 --> 00:16:16.559 It's in our nature. 00:16:16.799 --> 00:16:21.120 We want to see, uh we want to see it in our hand. 00:16:21.279 --> 00:16:23.840 We want to observe the way it functions. 00:16:24.159 --> 00:16:29.600 And it goes against our nature to believe in something that we cannot see. 00:16:30.320 --> 00:16:32.960 But the wind of God is unseen. 00:16:33.360 --> 00:16:38.559 And for some of you that's a problem, but I don't have any other response. 00:16:38.799 --> 00:16:44.000 In fact, Jesus even said, he says, I can't apologize for this. 00:16:44.240 --> 00:16:55.840 Um, the wind is, it comes and it goes, and and uh it's not something that you can actually hold in your hand. 00:16:56.000 --> 00:17:00.000 It's not something that you can actually, it's not tangible. 00:17:01.279 --> 00:17:08.000 But the truth is this, is that the the Spirit of God was never meant to be seen. 00:17:09.039 --> 00:17:11.359 The wind of God was never meant to be seen. 00:17:12.240 --> 00:17:22.319 God didn't intend for it to be logical, that you see something through your eye gate, you believe in it, and then you f you act on it. 00:17:23.119 --> 00:17:29.680 In fact, God's intention was that each person individually experience it. 00:17:30.400 --> 00:17:37.200 To be able to experience the wind of God, to be able to experience this fresh wind is so important. 00:17:37.759 --> 00:17:41.680 There's nothing like this manifest presence of God. 00:17:42.079 --> 00:17:55.119 And once you've been in a space where the presence of God is that tangible that you you can't see it, but you know it's there, you walk and you go, something is different in this space. 00:17:55.359 --> 00:18:02.880 Something is different because the Spirit of God is there, the wind of the Spirit is there. 00:18:04.160 --> 00:18:12.000 One of the psalmists said it this way He said, Better is one day in the house of the Lord than a thousand elsewhere. 00:18:12.559 --> 00:18:22.400 Because that psalmist had an opportunity to experience the wind of God, and when he experienced the wind of God, he said, Boy, this is better. 00:18:23.119 --> 00:18:41.200 One moment in this environment, one moment with that wind in your sail, in your life, that fresh breath, one moment is better than a thousand hours of counseling, a thousand hours of working hard to move. 00:18:41.680 --> 00:18:48.160 One moment in the wind just brings refreshment and and new life. 00:18:49.119 --> 00:18:57.279 If you haven't had that, uh you don't need uh a cushy chair or an experience in a physical building. 00:18:57.519 --> 00:19:14.640 You can actually experience that at your home today, just to open your heart to this wind of God and to move in and to move and allow that wind to impact you and to uh influence you. 00:19:14.960 --> 00:19:17.200 I want you to experience that. 00:19:17.839 --> had heard Thomas had questions, and Thomas was saying, I uh I won't believe it until I actually see it. 00:19:36.160 --> 00:19:46.240 And Jesus, when he finally came to Thomas, he said, put your fingers in the nails in my hands and put your hand in my side and experience it. 00:19:46.400 --> 00:19:54.160 But Jesus said, Because you've seen me, you've believed, but blessed are those who have not seen and still believe. 00:19:54.480 --> 00:20:05.200 There's a blessing for those of us who haven't seen but have, regardless, gone and experienced what God has for us. 00:20:05.440 --> 00:20:12.720 If you really want to see the best of God or you want to experience the best of God, you have to realize that this is a part of who He is. 00:20:12.960 --> 00:20:19.680 The ruach of God, the breath, the wind of God is something that is unseen. 00:20:20.160 --> 00:20:25.839 Next, the wind of God, this wind of God is unpredictable. 00:20:26.400 --> 00:20:27.839 It is unpredictable. 00:20:27.920 --> 00:20:33.359 And how many of you would agree with me that when you're out in the wind, it's unpredictable? 00:20:33.599 --> 00:20:41.839 Uh I've golfed, uh we are always looking for which way the wind is going, which way the wind is moving. 00:20:42.000 --> 00:20:59.839 In fact, when you golf, you see a flag at the end of the uh the fairway, and it's sitting in the hole in the cup, and that flag is blowing one way or another because the wind is always changing, and you have to adjust your shot to accommodate the wind. 00:21:00.160 --> 00:21:06.160 In fact, there's a full-time employee at our airport who's watching the wind. 00:21:06.400 --> 00:21:16.079 That's all his duty is to watch the wind, communicate to those who are flying in how the wind is moving so that messes us up a little bit. 00:21:27.200 --> 00:21:33.200 It's the challenge that we have with the Spirit of God because we don't like unpredictable. 00:21:33.440 --> 00:21:35.200 We like predictable. 00:21:35.440 --> 00:21:41.279 We like to have a if such and such happens, then such and such happens. 00:21:41.519 --> 00:21:46.000 We want to know a formula, and we want that formula to serve us. 00:21:46.319 --> 00:21:49.680 But the fact is, it doesn't serve us. 00:21:49.920 --> 00:21:59.519 Nicodemus uh uh, a uh a professor of the day of Jesus' time, a professor of religion virtually. 00:22:01.119 --> 00:22:04.559 He said, What does it mean to be born of the Spirit? 00:22:04.960 --> 00:22:08.480 What does it mean to be born again of the Spirit? 00:22:08.720 --> 00:22:11.039 And he tried to lock it down. 00:22:11.200 --> 00:22:12.400 This is what it's going to mean. 00:22:12.480 --> 00:22:16.880 And Jesus said to him, the wind blows wherever it pleases. 00:22:17.119 --> 00:22:22.079 In other words, the Spirit blows wherever it pleases. 00:22:22.480 --> 00:22:26.960 You hear its sound, but you can't tell where it's coming from or where it's going. 00:22:27.519 --> 00:22:30.480 So it is with everyone who's born of the Spirit. 00:22:30.720 --> 00:22:37.119 Everyone is going to have a unique relationship, a personal relationship with Holy Spirit. 00:22:37.359 --> 00:22:49.119 Whether you're eight years old watching today, or if you're 80 years old watching today, you can have a relationship with Holy Spirit, but it's not going to be exact. 00:22:50.000 --> you're going to want this spirit, this wind in your life, you have to get comfortable with the thought that you can't pin him down. 00:23:53.119 --> 00:23:58.160 And it's not always going to be orderly or the same. 00:23:59.359 --> 00:24:03.279 God chose at one time to speak to someone from a mountain. 00:24:03.519 --> 00:24:07.440 God chose another time to speak to someone through a burning bush. 00:24:08.000 --> 00:24:10.799 God uses different ways. 00:24:10.880 --> 00:24:30.880 And actually in Mark chapter 8, there's a really great example of this in verse 22 to 26, where it actually tells about some men who were taking their friend, a blind man, to see Jesus because they heard that Jesus was laying hands on people and they were getting well. 00:24:31.119 --> 00:24:34.720 And they actually approached Jesus, and I find this kind of humorous. 00:24:34.960 --> 00:24:36.400 They approach him this way. 00:24:41.119 --> 00:24:44.880 In other words, Jesus, do what you've been doing just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give you life in your mortal bodies by the same Spirit. 00:31:08.240 --> 00:31:17.759 So if this is the source of life, if this is the source of saw on TV or you read online or you've seen and experienced from some people that may have set you off. 00:32:13.839 --> 00:32:22.480 And instead you have to just approach God and seek God personally 13 says this you will seek me and you will find me when you seek me with all your heart. 00:33:00.720 --> 00:33:15.039 The secret here is when you will seek me and find me, when you seek me with And the wind of God is just moving you forward in the direction that he wants you to move. 00:37:22.480 --> 00:37:30.480 And if you want that for your life today, as much as I want it for your life
