00:31:44.960 --> 00:32:00.559 And he is now, whenever you start a job, whenever you go to uh find a place of employment, oftentimes you look at the facilities, you look at the management, and then people look at their job responsibilities and then they look at their benefits. 00:32:01.759 --> 00:32:09.039 And the scripture is very clear in Psalm 103, it says, don't forget the benefits that we have because of Christ. 00:32:09.279 --> 00:32:16.400 And one of those benefits is that he redeems our life, he redeems us from the pit. 00:32:16.799 --> 00:32:21.680 He is our redeemer, our redeemer. 00:32:22.000 --> 00:32:32.559 Moses also realized this, and many of you have probably heard the story of Moses or know about how the Hebrew people were enslaved in Egypt. 00:32:32.960 --> 00:32:37.680 And God spoke to Moses and He says, I'm gonna do a few things for you. 00:32:38.240 --> 00:32:41.119 He called, and these are the I wills of Scripture. 00:32:41.200 --> 00:32:45.599 He says, I will bring you out from under the yoke of the Egyptians. 00:32:45.759 --> 00:32:47.440 In other words, I'm gonna save you. 00:32:47.599 --> 00:32:49.519 I'm gonna save this group of people. 00:32:49.680 --> 00:32:53.519 I'm gonna pull them out of the place where they're enslaved. 00:32:53.599 --> 00:32:54.720 I'm gonna save them. 00:32:54.960 --> 00:32:59.519 Secondly, I'll free them from being slaves. 00:32:59.599 --> 00:33:00.960 And then we call that freedom. 00:33:01.039 --> 00:33:06.720 This is a place where not only are we saved, but we are free. 00:33:06.960 --> 00:33:15.200 And this is where 80% of the church lives, in a place where we realize our salvation and we realize our freedom. 00:33:15.279 --> 00:33:21.440 But the next point here is that God said, I will redeem you. 00:33:23.440 --> 00:33:28.240 With an outstretched arm, with mighty acts of judgment, I will redeem you. 00:33:28.319 --> 00:33:40.480 And really, what this refers to is the redemptive quality of God that He will repurpose you, He will give you back that purpose that you were called to. 00:33:41.359 --> 00:33:56.240 Now, for many uh in my circle that I've just kind of I've vetted this message with, I said, how many of people actually really understand what the word redeem means? 00:33:57.039 --> 00:34:01.839 It's one of our benefits, it's listed in the benefit package of our faith. 00:34:02.480 --> 00:34:15.119 The fact that we have a redeemer, the fact that he promises to redeem us, but what does that practically look like in terms of its execution? 00:34:15.440 --> 00:34:34.639 --> 00:34:44.639 So in the Old Testament, written in Hebrew, the word red redeem really means it refers to an attribute of a person. 00:34:44.960 --> 00:34:47.920 I they it says the word is ga all. 00:34:48.559 --> 00:34:52.400 It's like a Texan, Gaul, y'all, y'all, gall. 00:34:52.960 --> 00:35:02.239 It's like Gaul, which means redeemer, and it actually means uh a person who brings redemption like a kinsman redeemer. 00:35:02.400 --> 00:35:17.679 And one of the greatest stories we read about this is in the book of Ruth, where Ruth lost her husband, and in and in the process lost her land, and she goes to a different country where she has kinsmen, family there. 00:35:17.760 --> 00:35:30.239 She's from those tribes, and she she finds that there's a man there named Boaz, and Boaz becomes her redeemer, her kinsman redeemer. 00:35:30.320 --> 00:35:40.000 And what he does is he not only buys back the land that she had lost, but he decides to marry her and bring her into the family. 00:35:40.480 --> 00:36:01.840 And the Old Testament in the scripture, this illustration was really to illustrate the fact that God would one day send Jesus to come and buy back what was once the what we had lost, buy it back, and then bring us back into our into his family. 00:36:02.639 --> 00:36:03.679 Redemption. 00:36:04.320 --> 00:36:15.280 We read about this this predicament in man's in man's state of humanity where we are dead in our trespasses and our sins. 00:36:15.360 --> 00:36:19.920 Uh Ephesians says, you were dead in your trespasses and your sins. 00:36:20.159 --> 00:36:22.559 You were in need of redemption. 00:36:23.840 --> 00:36:27.440 We're not just lost, we're dead without Christ. 00:36:28.559 --> 00:36:34.159 We're not just distant from God, we're dead if we don't have God. 00:36:34.719 --> 00:36:38.559 This is what we learned yesterday or last week on the power of sin. 00:36:38.960 --> 00:36:52.159 Sin doesn't come to uh hurt your feelings, sin comes to kill you, to separate you, to put you uh in a different place apart from God. 00:36:52.400 --> 00:36:58.000 But God comes, he saved us by bringing us into the family of God. 00:36:58.320 --> 00:36:59.679 There's the salvation. 00:36:59.920 --> 00:37:05.599 So, what I'd like to do is go through what this word redeem actually means. 00:37:05.760 --> 00:37:11.440 As it's got many derivatives in our English language, redeem, redeemer, redeeming. 00:37:11.920 --> 00:37:15.039 But the Greek word actually has different word pictures. 00:37:15.119 --> 00:37:28.639 And if anyone likes picture books, like me, you're gonna like this because this what it does is it actually elaborates on the word and and qualifies this word in a richer way. 00:37:28.880 --> 00:37:34.639 So the first word that we read about being the redeemer is the word agarazo. 00:37:35.920 --> 00:37:40.960 It's a Greek word and it means the marketplace for slaves. 00:37:41.840 --> 00:37:43.199 Agarazo. 00:37:43.760 --> 00:38:06.159 And we read about this word, agorazo, when we read the word redeem in Revelation, and the Bible says this, and they sang in a new song in chapter 5, verse 9, saying, You are worthy to take the scroll and open its seals, because you were slain, and with your blood you have redeemed us. 00:38:08.239 --> 00:38:11.920 Every person from every tribe and language and people and nation. 00:38:12.159 --> 00:38:18.239 Now, this word redeem means he came to the marketplace of slaves. 00:38:19.679 --> 00:38:27.199 God left heaven and entered into a marketplace where there were slaves for slaves. 00:38:28.559 --> 00:38:38.719 And sometimes it's difficult to think this way, and we've become a little bit more because of time, we've distanced ourselves from this idea of the slave market. 00:38:39.119 --> 00:38:53.199 But the slave market was a real place, and it was a vivid place, it was a graphic place, it was a place where people were sold and traded and auctioned like animals. 00:38:53.840 --> 00:39:16.159 In fact, people would place the slave on them on a on an auction block, and people would walk by and they would have like details about who the individual was, and then they would get them to open their mouth and they check their health, and then they curse them, and and and they were even encouraged to whip them and beat them to test their temperament. 00:39:16.800 --> 00:39:23.920 At times they would make them disrobed to be able to check them to see if there were any flaws or imperfections. 00:39:24.159 --> 00:39:26.400 It was a terrible, terrible place. see it in his life where he himself was beaten, he himself was abused, he himself was cursed, he himself his reputation, he was tested and tried, even to the place where he himself was disrobed and book of Galatians where it says, Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law. 00:42:14.559 --> 00:42:22.880 He actually came into the marketplace of slaves to take us out of the marketplace of and buy this prostitute, buy this wild woman who just like she had no cares. 00:46:22.159 --> 00:46:29.440 And he says, go and find her and buy her and bring her into your home and make her your wife. after they had children, she leaves again to go back to being with other people, being with other men. 00:46:44.800 --> 00:46:50.480 And in turn, in that process, she sells herself back into slavery. 00:47:09.760 And then when they get tired of her, they put her back on the auction block, and the cycle just return, just goes over and over, and she's dead to the to her sin. 00:47:11.519 --> 00:47:17.920 And the Lord speaks to Hosea and he says this to her, and this is one of the most powerful verses in this book. 00:47:18.079 --> 00:47:25.280 He says, The Lord spoke to him, he says, Go show your love for your wife again. 00:47:28.719 --> 00:47:42.480 Though she is loved by another man, though she's in bed with other men, though she's still prostituting, and she's an adulteress, love sold property, he brought in money, he brought in produce, he brought in all these pieces, and he said, Gomer, you're mine. 00:48:14.719 --> 00:48:26.480 And he brought her back into her home, his home, and he made her and he brought her back into a position where she was part of this family to be loved in his home. 00:48:26.800 --> 00:48:38.239 The fact that God would do that as an example to this word in Hebrews 9 12 where it says, He did not enter by means of the blood of goats and calves, but he entered the most holy place once for all by his own blood, thus obtaining eternal redemption. 00:49:23.199 --> 00:49:39.440 God purchased us, eternally redeemed us, eternally redeemed us with a price that wasn't calves and goats and money and cash and whatever it may be, a currency he's looking at his boys and his girls, and he looks at us on the slave block and he goes to the owner of the market and he says, I know they're enslaved, I know they're caught up in sin, I know they deserve where they're at, but I want to buy her. 00:51:37.679 --> 00:51:40.719 I want to buy her, I want to buy him. 00:51:42.079 --> 00:51:45.679 And the slave owner says, I'll tell you what, we'll 00:53:33.360 And the word apple is another prefix that means to return, to return to its original state. 00:53:33.760 --> 00:53:47.119 So what he actually did is he not only leutrosis, he not only paid for you and paid you for you fully, but he returned you back to your original state. 00:53:47.599 --> 00:53:55.440 He brought you back to a place where you were, you would have been as if you riches of God's grace. 00:54:20.079 --> 00:54:37.760 When we think about God's redemption, the fact that he redeemed us, I can't help but realize notice and realize the amount of grace, undeserved 00:56:08.159 And not only paying the full ransom so that he could make you a slave, but he paid the full ransom so that you could be free. 00:56:08.800 --> 00:56:14.800 He brought you out to restore
