00:10:48.240 --> 00:10:59.279 He was a tax collector, he was exploiting people, he was it was uh under Roman rule at the time, and he was oppressing the people unfairly. 00:11:00.080 --> 00:11:07.120 He knew how much they could handle, and he pushed beyond that to squeeze every individual economically. 00:11:07.840 --> 00:11:14.240 And he wasn't just a sinner, he was just part of the machine that gonna do is he'll go to the center square, he's gonna start a protest, he's gonna create a reform policy, he's gonna address the taxes in the city, but he doesn't do any of those things. 00:11:34.639 --> 00:11:44.240 Instead, he stops, he looks up, and little Zacchaeus had climbed a tree so he could see Jesus coming, and he calls out Zacchaeus personally. 00:11:44.560 --> 00:11:49.360 He says, dinner. 00:13:01.279 --> 00:13:07.360 Everyone starts murmuring around, but consequently, everything shifts. 00:13:07.680 --> 00:13:14.000 Zacchaeus stops, he stands up, and right away he says, I'm gonna repay everybody. 00:13:15.440 --> 00:13:23.120 I'll restore four times return to you if I've taken from you, and I'll make it right. 00:13:23.279 --> 00:13:31.840 And the fact is, Jesus went in and he fixed a system by fixing a man, a person. 00:13:32.639 --> 00:13:36.480 He didn't go in to oppress, he came under. 00:13:36.879 --> 00:13:43.120 And the kingdom of God is about a different method, a different methodology, it's a different movement. 00:13:43.279 --> 00:14:05.200 And we often think that we have to change laws to change people, but the reality is we can still, by his work through us, the king working through us, establish a different rule and a different law in people before there's even physical change and physical law changed in the country. 00:14:07.440 --> 00:15:02.000 And one of the uh the places that I enjoy reading the most is actually about the how Jesus uh affected the kingdom through relationship is the story of the woman at the well. 00:15:02.480 --> 00:15:10.399 And when I was in Israel, I actually went to the place where the in where the well was supposed to be, supposed to be. 00:15:10.879 --> 00:15:28.639 And when you went to that area, you realized it was on the border of Samaria, and it's one of the purest expressions of the gospel of the kingdom at work, because everything about it, everything about this story runs opposite to how you think influence actually works. 00:15:29.200 --> 00:15:43.120 Jesus could have gone anywhere, he could have gone to Jerusalem, to palaces, to temples, he could have gone to political high points, but instead he goes to a well in the middle of nowhere. 00:15:43.840 --> 00:15:49.120 Samaria, the wrong place, a well, not really the place of influence. 00:15:49.360 --> 00:15:54.480 Influential people weren't carrying water up a mountain to their houses and homes. 00:15:54.720 --> 00:16:06.960 It wasn't the place he went at the middle of the day, a time of day, the hottest part of the day, where people that went to that point were trying to avoid people to connect with. 00:16:12.080 --> 00:16:19.840 She comes down, the woman at the well comes down and she's a Samaritan, and Jesus asks the living water that if he gives her water, she's gonna get him a drink. 00:16:54.080 --> 00:16:59.120 But if he she gets a drink from him, it's gonna make a big difference in her life. 00:16:59.279 --> 00:17:06.000 And she goes back into the city and she says, You've gotta meet a man who's up by the well. 00:17:06.160 --> 00:17:09.920 He's telling me things that I didn't, I haven't told anybody. correct. 00:18:18.400 --> 00:18:38.559 I'm thirsty that few minutes with Jesus hadn't cleared up everything in her life, but at that moment she changed because she had had an encounter with Jesus, and that encounter allowed her to experience the heart of the father and the heart of the king, and that started to change a community. 00:18:38.880 --> 00:18:42.799 So you've got uh Zacchaeus, it's a little deeper? 00:18:54.240 --> 00:19:09.759 And so I think about Jesus going across the the sea of Galilee, and he doesn't go across the sea for a crowd, he goes across the other side for one king said, Jesus, go to the other side, Jesus went, I'm on mission, and every step was intentional. 00:19:28.480 --> 00:19:36.880 So when he gets off the boat, he's greeted by a man who literally is throwing himself at Jesus' feet. 00:19:37.279 --> 00:19:49.759 He was broken, he lived in tombs, he had chains hanging from his wrist from chains that were people that tried to hold him down, and he
