David Nathaniel Smith: My Dad's Eulogy for My Grandfather Bishop Edward Smith (Army Korean War Veteran)
“Today, we honor the late David Nathaniel Smith, a man whose words and presence left a lasting legacy. One of the final times my dad spoke publicly was at my grandfather’s funeral—Bishop Edward Smith. In that moment, standing before family, friends, and a grieving community, my dad delivered the speech of a lifetime.
He had written just a few thoughts down on a piece of paper in my grandfather’s old office. And with those simple notes, he stepped up and spoke from the heart—showing us all the incredible speaker, leader, and coach he truly was.
His words moved the room, comforting us, inspiring us, and reminding us of the strength in family and faith. My dad wasn’t just a great speaker that day; he was a symbol of courage, love, and wisdom.
Today, we celebrate David Nathaniel Smith—the man, the father, the coach, the speaker—whose voice still echoes in our hearts.”
“We didn’t know it all— we learned with love, led with kindness, and earned our way to the top.”
