BUCKLE UP PODCAST — KING TROT

King Trot pulled up to the Buckle Up Podcast, and while many people know him from his viral freestyles and the hit sound “you’re going to jail… going to jail tonight”—his story goes far deeper than the laughs.

A native of Kansas City, Missouri, King Trot was raised in the church, with his father serving as a pastor. Music has always been a part of his life. From a young age, he played instruments and grew up in a family full of musical talent. As a kid and teenager, he quickly became known around school for his ability to rap, all while balancing sports.

That balance led him to college football at Mississippi Valley State University, an HBCU. But after a back surgery, his path shifted. What seemed like a setback became a redirection—pushing him back toward music with a renewed purpose.

After relocating to Las Vegas, King Trot began street performing. Initially, he focused on written material rooted in spirituality, consciousness, and real-world issues. However, everything changed when someone asked him to freestyle.

The response was undeniable.

The joy, laughter, and connection his freestyles created with people was immediate—and bigger than anything he had experienced before. Recognizing the opportunity, King Trot made a strategic shift: leaning into freestyles to grow his platform and reach a wider audience.

But behind the viral moments is a bigger mission.

King Trot’s long-term goal is to use his platform to speak on deeper topics—faith, social injustice, and real-world issues that matter. He understands that sometimes you have to meet people where they are first, build the audience, and then lead them toward something greater.

This episode is a powerful reminder that purpose isn’t always a straight line. Sometimes, the detour is the path.
