Ready to trade street chaos for time slips and trophies? We sit down with the Texas Muscle Car Club Challenge (TMCCC) to unpack how bracket racing turns every kind of car—and every kind of driver—into a contender. From bone-stock commuters and diesel workhorses to full-on dragsters, the series builds a fair fight around consistency, reaction times, and smart dialing. If you can pass tech, you can stage, and the family-friendly vibe means you’ll head home by mid-afternoon with a few runs, a grin, and maybe a new obsession.
TMCCC president Scott Stregel walks us through the series’ footprint across Texas and into Oklahoma, explaining why most classes run the eighth mile while select street categories stretch to the quarter at tracks like Ennis and Thunder Valley. He also shares a big step forward: a dedicated EV class. We dig into what that means for safety, fire suppression, and the surprising advantage electric cars bring in bracket consistency. The message is clear—racing has room for the future, and structure makes it safer for everyone.
Driver Yolanda Vasquez brings the heart of the show with her story: growing up at the strip with her dad’s ’68 GTO, learning the tree, and now running a Challenger Scat Pack to a 7.70 eighth. She proves you don’t need a trailer queen to win; you need reps, focus, and a love for the craft. We round it out with practicals: how $40 gets you at least three passes, how to join a team or start one, where to find the schedule and rules at tmccc.org, and why women now account for a remarkable slice of the grid. Plus, we drop a fresh review of the 2026 Mazda 3 sedan—powerful, polished, but ready for a tech refresh—and touch on a shake-up in F1 broadcast coverage that U.S. fans will notice.
If you’re curious about getting off the street and onto the strip, this is your roadmap. Subscribe, share with a friend who needs a legal outlet for speed, and leave a review telling us what you’d bring to the tree.

Welcome And Guest Intro
SPEAKER_03Welcome to another In-Wheel Time podcast. Welcome to the In-Wheel Time Car Talk Show. Just ahead, Scott Streel from the Texas Muscle Car Club Challenge. What it is, what it was, what it shall be, and where you can see them. Plus, Jeff has his motor minute, and I'll review the new 2026 Mazda 3 today. Just ahead. Um, the In-Wheel Time Car Talk Show. Howdy, along with Mike Out of This World Mars, coming to you from Neederville, Texas. We always need more Jeff's Deacon. Chief Engineer David Ainsley is criticizing every moment that we are on the air. I'm Doc Armstrong. Huh? He's cringy. He's he's like a an old wife. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04You can't do anything. His son uh Ryan came into the our our office and uh he's gonna order some product from us. So uh we're working on that for him as well. Yeah, Jeff sells for his bullshirts. Yeah, yeah, yeah. The bullshirts.
SPEAKER_03That was a free commercial for Bullshirt.
SPEAKER_04It was their advertising on 39.
SPEAKER_03Are they? Yeah. Well, we could be the new mattress Mac for him. You know, right here. That's how Mattress Mac got in wrestling.
SPEAKER_05Every Saturday.
What TMCCC Is And How It Works
SPEAKER_03Yes. All right. Scott Stregel is with us with the Texas Muscle Car Club Challenge. Scott, good morning. Who's next to the next to you?
SPEAKER_02This would be Yolanda Vasquez. She's one of our racers. Hey. Um, she races uh she's got a uh challenger that she races. She does pretty good. She's won some trophies. She's won uh overall champion in her class um a couple of times, so she's she's pretty good at it.
SPEAKER_03Well, you say pretty good. I say real good.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Thank you.
SPEAKER_03There you go. What uh what year is that uh challenger?
SPEAKER_01It's a 16 uh Scat Pack.
SPEAKER_03Have you done any modifications to it?
SPEAKER_01No, just uh cold air intake and exhaust, but that's about it.
SPEAKER_03Well, that's something that makes a difference though. Well, it can give you a couple more horsepower heading down the track. That's always a good thing. Yeah, good deal. So uh let's see, Scott, where are we gonna start? I I tell you what I wanted to do. I I want you to explain to everybody now. This is a drag race event. So what is it that Texas Muscle Car Club Challenge? What does it do? How many events do you have? Give us a brief overview of the club.
SPEAKER_02Okay. Uh it's basically bracket racing. Um, we have a bracket or a class uh for everything, starting with uh your basic streetcar, uh your grocery getter, um, all the way up to your full-blown race car. There's a lot of things.
SPEAKER_03So we can take in other words, what you're saying there is that we could take the 1990 Oldsmobile Cutlass, whatever, cutlass or you know, Olds 88 or whatever it is, and we could race it in a bracket.
SPEAKER_02Correct, correct. Yeah, nice.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, um, in fact, and we probably wouldn't have much competition, I would imagine.
SPEAKER_02You never know. It's all dependent on on your times, really.
Tracks, Distances, And New EV Class
SPEAKER_03Depended on times and uh obviously the place. Now I know that you guys go all over the state of Texas, do you not?
SPEAKER_02Correct. Yeah, we uh we go all over Texas and we are racing also up in Oklahoma at uh Thunder Valley Raceway Park.
SPEAKER_03Okay. So there's there's a racetrack near you, believe it or not. Are you eighth mile or quarter mile?
SPEAKER_02We are eighth mile for the most part. Uh we go to a quarter mile track in Innes, and we go to a quarter mile track up in uh Oklahoma, but quarter mile is is uh relegated to just the streetcar classes. Okay, so there's three classes that race quarter mile. Everything else, even if it's a quarter mile track, all other classes race eighth of a mile, mostly because that's what they're geared for.
SPEAKER_03Yes. And you don't want to get out there changing rear-end gears in the middle of the hot summer.
SPEAKER_02Correct. What a now we'll interject one thing as far as our classes. We're introducing a new class this year, strictly for EV vehicles. Uh-oh.
SPEAKER_03Oh God. Are you bringing a big charger generator out there?
SPEAKER_02That's up to them, man. That's up to them.
SPEAKER_03Okay.
SPEAKER_02But it's we see it as the, you know, it's coming. Um, we see more and more EV vehicles out there. We saw some last year uh when I was eliminated, I'd sit up in the tower and watch. Um I think at this point in time, from what I'm hearing, we're the only series in the country that has a bracket specifically for EV vehicles.
SPEAKER_03So are you explaining me? How do you modify an EV? I mean, different capacitors, uh, you know, uh, you know, some sort of uh different winding in the motor. I mean, what do you do for that?
SPEAKER_06Probably all of that.
SPEAKER_02To be honest with you, man, I have no clue.
SPEAKER_04Good for you. Thank you for admitting that, because I don't either. So you put higher octane in the race car, you got a higher electricity octane. You know, I don't know bigger, what bigger wires in it.
SPEAKER_02All I know is that they have a clear advantage over fuel cars. Um, I talked to a guy who hasn't changed his dialing time in a year and a half. Year and a half. Really?
SPEAKER_03And has he burned up any electric motors in the car yet?
SPEAKER_02No, not that I know of. No.
SPEAKER_03But do they have a foam truck?
SPEAKER_04That was gonna adjust one case. What additional safety items they have?
SPEAKER_02I would I would imagine that they would have, you know, foam type uh fire extinguishers and and stuff like that. That seems to be the biggest concern. Is if they catch on fire, how are you gonna put it out? Right. Um, I know the foam is the only thing that's gonna work. I know that my fire extinguisher for my car, um, I can put out anything.
SPEAKER_03So, you know, but again, that's can you put out a good time at the racetrack? Can you do that?
Safety, Fire Risks, And EV Realities
SPEAKER_02Yes, yes. I guarantee you, and I've told this to people before, your worst day at the track is still better than mowing a lot.
SPEAKER_03Well, there's that, yeah. There is that. There is that. Yolanda, yeah, how in the world did you get mixed up in this?
SPEAKER_01Um, it's a long story, but well, you can make it shorter. I did find Red River Muscle Club um just by word of mouth when I first moved to Texas in 2013. So um I went and checked it out, and and it was uh to me, I felt like I was the right fit. You know, we're all we all kind of have the same attitudes, and um I don't know, we all we just we all love to race, and it's it's one of those things that most of us have been doing since childhood, you know.
SPEAKER_03So Red River Club, is that anything to do with the Red River drag strip out in the hill country? No, no, nothing. Okay, so what is your home truck, Yolanda?
SPEAKER_01Um, well, anything in the Metroplex, in the DFW Metroplex.
SPEAKER_03Okay, so you're uh you're up north.
SPEAKER_01Yes.
SPEAKER_03Got it. Okay. Well, I'm just trying to get a lay of the land here and find out, you know, where you draw your uh your club members uh you know all over and you and you say it's word of mouth.
Yolanda’s Path Into Racing
SPEAKER_02It it mostly is. We're doing a lot this year, and we started last year when I took over as president. It is uh we brought somebody in that handles just marketing and advertising, and we're doing a lot more on social media to get us out there. Um, to try to build car counts and do more than just word of mouth. Um we're promoting us. Yeah, I mean you guys are part of the part of the deal. Um you guys are helping spread the word. Um you know, last year we went out to to uh San Angelo to Concho Valley to the new track there. We picked up 17 racers that were local people. Um you know, not only was the track promoting us, excuse me, but our social media was promoting us down there as well. And and that's what we're looking at. We have racers from there. Uh, I've got guys that come from seven hours away to go to different races, racetracks up here or up in Oklahoma or Wichita Falls or whatever. So, uh like I said, all over Texas, we are literally all over Texas.
SPEAKER_03Well, you know, club guys are uh that way, and you want to be a part of something, and you get a bunch of people together and then spread the word, and you know, there's 17 guys coming from over here, and we got 15 guys here. Not all of them can make the seven-hour road trip or whatever it is, but it it's uh the availability is there. I'm part of the club, I'm gonna go drag racing this weekend in San Angelo or wherever it is, and uh there's a lot of appeal to that. And I don't know as if that's ever been organized like you guys got going.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I agree. And to me, it's it's it's like throwing a rock in a pond. You know, you get a ripple and then you get another ripple, ripple, ripple, and next thing you know, you're you know, you're 17 guys, we might pull out of San Angelo. Maybe this time it's 30 guys. Um because they talk about it, and we just keep going, and and that's that's all it is to just keep it. What kind of cars are told me a couple weeks?
SPEAKER_03What kind of cars and drivers are what kind of cars and drivers are attracted to this setup that you guys got going there at Texas Muscle Car Club Challenge?
SPEAKER_02Anything. Cars and drivers, anything.
SPEAKER_03Really?
SPEAKER_02Yeah. I mean, I one time a couple of years ago, we were in uh Abilene, and there was a guy racing, racing, mind you, a Chevrolet uh equivalent to like an F-550 um diesel. I mean, this thing's slow as hell, but he's out there at the track doing it.
SPEAKER_03Because it's fun to do.
Growth, Marketing, And New Racers
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that's what gets my applause. And you can bring out your Yugo or you can bring out your full-blown. I mean, we've got a guy on my team that uh uh Tony Malone. He's got a full-blown dragster. Um anything in between.
SPEAKER_04Do you hear that, Mike? You can take your Yugo out there. Yeah, that's what I'm thinking.
SPEAKER_05You know, at least it's a place to race.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, right. And that's our goal. We we want to get that guy off the television and stop doing stupid things in the street where you're hurting people or killing people or blocking traffic or whatever, and get some of those people, you know, on the track. I mean, it's 40 bucks. You're guaranteed at least three runs for 40 bucks. Um, you're in a family atmosphere, you're usually done by three o'clock in the afternoon on Sunday. We start at eight o'clock in the morning on Sunday. You're done by three.
SPEAKER_03And you can turn off the traction control, Scott.
SPEAKER_02Exactly.
SPEAKER_03Yolanda's Yolanda's grinning at everyone.
SPEAKER_04She doesn't even know what that is.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. You know how to turn the traction control off in the Challenger?
SPEAKER_01Yes.
SPEAKER_03Okay. Got my vote.
SPEAKER_04So back to Yolanda. Were you brought up in a racing family, Yolanda? Or you just did this on your own?
SPEAKER_01Or I was. My dad, my dad used to race his 68 GTO, and um, he built that for the track back in Albuquerque. And um, so ever since I was, I don't know, 12, we'd we'd go to the track every weekend. And then once I got my 65 GTO, which was completely stock, slow as slow as hell, but it was fun. Like I learned the track, I learned the tree, and I just started racing that. And then once I I uh got a a modern car that had a little more ump to it, then I started racing. Um I had a charger like 10 years ago I raced, and then I've had two challengers, so it's just fun. It's it's it's a good getaway, it's it's you know, it's just fun.
Any Car Can Race, Not Streets
SPEAKER_04So you're a Mopar, you're a Mopar racer.
SPEAKER_01Yes. Well, there's no more Pontiac, so I had to convert to Mopar.
SPEAKER_04Right, right.
SPEAKER_01It's good.
SPEAKER_04Well, and the the 68 sounds like it was a fun car as well.
SPEAKER_01It it is, yes.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, so where are you off to next? Go ahead.
SPEAKER_02I'll tell you something from my perspective. Um, it's good to see the amount of women drivers we have. I mean, we're probably around 40% women drivers. Yeah, really.
SPEAKER_04That's picking up that's picking up in a lot of the series. Right. Absolutely is.
SPEAKER_02I mean, not just it's not just uh your you know your Toyota. Well, we've got women drivers that are running full-blown race cars out there.
SPEAKER_05But it's not just for really nice fast street cars like what Yolanda has. Right. Right. I mean, because face it, not everybody can afford to go off to Florida to the Gator Nationals to race. And and so, you know, it's fun to watch. It's a whole lot more fun to get out there and get behind the wheel. Right. Even if you're running 12, 13, 14 second bracket, you know, you're still racing somebody.
SPEAKER_01That's right.
SPEAKER_03Are you making fun of my 13-second bracket, Mars?
SPEAKER_05Well, no, I was actually making fun of my 14-second car, but of course I can't mention that. But I'll go with your 13-second car.
SPEAKER_02That's nice.
SPEAKER_03That's very nice. Well, so uh when's the first event?
SPEAKER_02First event is March 22nd. We got two weeks from tomorrow at Extreme Raceway Park in uh Ferris. That's um the TMCCC home track. Um we start then.
SPEAKER_03Okay, tell everybody where Ferris, Texas is. I know it's up there off of 45, isn't it?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it's right off of 45. It's about uh 15 minutes north of Innis on 45.
SPEAKER_03Closer to Dallas, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Closer to Dallas. If you want to come watch, it's uh$20 to get in the gate. And when you get in the gate, you can watch the races, you can go to the pitch, you can look at the cars. That 20 bucks gets you all over the place.
SPEAKER_04Can I get a media pass?
SPEAKER_02Absolutely.
SPEAKER_04Okay. Hot dogs and hamburgers and all that good stuff?
Event Details, Costs, And Merch
SPEAKER_02Yeah, everything's open. The concessions are open. Um, so you can get anything. I mean, they do a really good uh what do you call it, smoked brisket up there. Um, they are they're even selling their merchandise just like we are. We're we've got a merchandise tent where you can like you can see this shirt. This is our new shirt for for 2026. We've got uh hoodies, hats, I mean you name it. Um if you want to race, it's$40 for a tech card. And you can either come up and start your own club or team, or you can join up with one of the teams that are there and spend the day racing.
unknownThat's good.
SPEAKER_05So anybody, if you show up, you can race. You might you know once you do all the people, yeah. Well, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_03As long as the car's got brakes, I'm sure that uh there's some sort of tech on that.
SPEAKER_02And let's not forget, bring your safety equipment. I mean, if you're running like me, I'm running a six-second car and and I don't have a helmet and a fire jacket, I'm not racing. Period.
SPEAKER_03Or a roll bar. Where can we find the schedule of events and more information?
SPEAKER_02Okay, that would be our website. It would be tmcc.org. Uh, once you go to there, you'll find everything: the rules, contact information for all of us that run this thing, um, where we're gonna be, the schedule, there's a printable, printable version of the schedule on there. Um there's a page with all of our sponsors, all of our events, there's pictures, um, I mean, it's pretty much everything you'd want to know about TMCCC. And if there's something that it doesn't answer, then you can email or or call me and I'll be happy to answer the questions.
SPEAKER_03And and do you have a direct connection somehow to uh the your barber?
SPEAKER_02To who?
SPEAKER_03Your barber. I I just just thought just thought of it. Jeff might be looking for a haircut when he comes up there and erases his view.
SPEAKER_02I don't know if you can tell. I I don't worry much about barbers. There you go.
SPEAKER_03We noticed that, yes.
SPEAKER_02I mean the weather kind of messes with my hair a little bit, but you know, uh generally get some helmet hair.
SPEAKER_04You get helmet hair. Helmet hair. Back to you, Alanda. What was your what what what kind of times are you running?
SPEAKER_01Um the fastest I've done is 770. Um that's in the eighth mile. Yes.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Cool. It's still pretty quick. Yeah, it is. Well, listen.
Yolanda’s Times And Her Shop
SPEAKER_05And you Londa, we're in in your shop, real quick. What is what is the shop? Where are you at?
SPEAKER_01So we're in Celina, Texas. It's called Sick Rides Window Tent and Auto Detail. So we do, of course, window tent, you know, ceramic coating, car wraps, PPF.
SPEAKER_06Perfect.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_01We do all the beautifications here.
SPEAKER_03Well, thank you all both. We appreciate you uh stopping by and chatting with us this morning. Good luck this year. Let's check in the middle of the middle of the season and see how things are going, okay? Absolutely.
SPEAKER_02You got it.
SPEAKER_06Sounds good.

2026 Mazda 3 Sedan Review
SPEAKER_04Yeah, this goes back to last week when Mike had uh something on his segment about Danica Patrick. Well, appreciate you uh pulling the trigger on that, Mike. But there's gonna be some changes. Our Formula One fans will not see a familiar face this year as the coverage of the world's biggest race series comes to Apple TV in the States as an American racing veteran. Danica Patrick will not be returned to the company uh as an an and as an analyst for the 2026 F1 season.
SPEAKER_03She's doing just all right. She's been fired.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, okay. Well, here we go. Sky, which is the network on that, released coverage plans for the broadcast talent of 2026, and Patrick's name was noticeably absent. Uh the American F1 fans have been treated to the British broadcaster coverage of Formula One has been syndicated on ESPN during the length of their rights deal with the racing series. This year, Apple TV will provide American viewers both with Sky feed featuring David Croft and Martin Brundle, which are good anal good analysts, and the entire team of analysts and reporters as well as the in-house F1 feed. Sky featured Danica uh alongside Formula One champions as veterans, pre-race analysts, including likes of Jens Jensen Button and Nico Rossberg. Jensen Button.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, there's an English.
SPEAKER_04There you go. It was traditionally utilized as an analyst during the North American races in the United States.
SPEAKER_03He got to do skating, didn't he?
SPEAKER_04Yeah. Ice skating? Yeah, all that. Well sports in general. Patrick was a trailblazer in American Racing as the first woman to win an indie car series. Okay. After 116 races in IndyCar escort, several podium finishes, moved to NASCAR, found limited success in stock cars, but never won a race. Imagine that. 191 starts. Regardless, her record speaks for itself as the most accomplished female driver in history, which I take challenge with of American racing. The record wasn't enough for everyone. I write this is what that is. That's okay. As it's not mentioned, the elephant in the room of her very outspoken and increasingly extreme conservative politics have become more and more pronounced in the recent years. For instance, after the USA hockey team won the gold medal in the Winter Olympics, she posted that Canada should have been smart enough to become the first 51st state. This probably wouldn't have made a very popular figure in the pit lane since they're going to Montreal. year uh with the race. So her podcast is also home of conspiracy theories, moon landing conspiracies, eye talking, all that good stuff. Indianapolis 500 in the past, both NBC and Fox Sports. So you know it's it's one of those things for her. Sorry to hear that, but uh why? I'm not sure I mean it was easy on the eyes, but her analysis just doesn't do it.
SPEAKER_03I got new glasses and it that still doesn't work. Okay. Time now for this hour's car review. 2026 Mazda 3. This is the four-door compact sedan. They do make a hatchback but forget that. This is the sedan. Available trim levels the S, the SELECT and the S Preferred along with the Carbon Edition all-wheel drive the 2.5 Turbo Premium Plus. I had the 2.5 Turbo Premium Plus top of the line compact four-door sedan seats five exterior changes minimal it was completely redesigned in 2019 so this current design is getting a little long in the tooth exterior features include the shark grille with the laid back aero windshield quick back design with a small trunk lid and a small opening back there. Slick wraparound headlights 18 inch black wheels on this particular trim level given a premium appearance but I like the overall sporty design. We could use improvement uh well something new a seven year old design it it sells it's good but it's time to bump it up I think uh interior highlights design and quality get high marks uh small infotainment screen sits atop the dash minimum minimalist control switches they look good but some are hard to find the ones that you need uh front seats are comfortable um but rear ones not so much small trunk room and especially that opening back there is very small so you're not gonna get your you know your big big suitcase back in there uh what I liked quality materials this is high end really for this kind of car and for this price what could use improvement but the infotainment operation is still too complicated it's the same one they've been stuck with for years and I'm not a big fan 2.5 liter four cylinder engine 227 horsepower 310 pound feet of pork uh pork torque 310 pound feet of pork transmission six speed automatic 23 miles per gallon city 32 highway for a combined at 27 i got 25.2 miles per gallon over 525 miles oops 25 miles over i'm sorry what i liked the plenty of power for this top of the line engine um what could use improvement how about a hybrid offering for better miles per gallon i i i don't know if it's possible or not but that's a slick looking for a sedan what I liked about it the sporty nature of the sedan what could use improvement for the ride and handling nothing base trim price no base trim price 36740 prices tested 39145 which is a lot of money for this car but base model price 24550 oh very good hello I'm in for that competitors the Honda Civic starts at 24695 this is just so weird to me when I started looking all this stuff up I'm going wait a minute they're all within you know a thousand dollars of each other Toyota Corolla starts at 22925 and the Hyundai Alantra starts at 22625 isn't that bizarre the the price really comparison is between the Mazda 3 that I drove for the base model price 24550 and the Honda Civic for 24695.
SPEAKER_04And you got some youngster going away to college it might be a good first car on the base side of it 2225.
SPEAKER_03If you can find you know the the base cars are hard to find they want to sell them with all the goodies on it because they make more money that I I get it they're not going to order you one with just base. I don't think they probably would but oh they would yeah anyway so that's the car review of the Mazda 3 sedan I liked it and it it it's a sporty car. Clearly Mazda's brand is about sportiness it's not going to ride like you know the Buick Regal of the past oh no you can you can toss it around the corner and the the shape when you saw the the the silhouette of the side view of that vehicle everything looks like euro.
