Houston car culture is hiding in plain sight, and once you know where to look, your weekends fill up fast. We’re set up at the Mega Meat Cruise In and we’re talking with the people who connect the dots across the city, from meet promoters to motorcycle crews, plus the small details that keep a cruise-in fun instead of chaotic.

First up, we hang with Omar from HTXCars.com, a new Houston-focused car meet and car show platform built to list events across Houston, Stafford, Richmond, Sugar Land, and beyond. He explains why a central calendar matters, how short recaps and live streams help people discover new spots, and why the real win is meeting owners and families out enjoying the scene together. We also talk about the seasonal reality of Texas events: spring is perfect, summer pushes meets into the night, and venues get cautious when takeovers ruin trust.

Then we switch to two wheels with Jonathan from Only The Few Bike Crew out of Katy. We get into group ride culture, community-focused events, and beginner-friendly motorcycle advice, including why 300cc to 400cc bikes are a smart start, what to know about dealerships versus marketplace buys, and how to think about mods and value. We also keep it real on safety, from helmets to the risks you can’t ignore.

If you’re looking for Houston car meets, Tailpipes And Tacos cruise-ins, and the people who make these events worth showing up for, hit play, then subscribe, share with a friend, and leave us a review so more local car fans can find the show.

Welcome From Mega Meat Cruise In

Don Armstrong

Welcome to another In Wheel Time podcast. It's the In Wheel Time Car Talk Show today, coming to you from Team Gilman. Subaru Acura and Mazda dealerships here in the 18,000 Block of the North Freeway. Welcome to the Mega Meat Cruise In. Just ahead, we're going to uh talk to a very special guest with us with uh Omar, HTX Cars Media. That's his muffler on that car, and he's gonna have it looked at, I think. Um, we're also gonna have Mr. Mars do a review of the brand new Mustang GT Convertible. That's coming up a little bit later on, seven tracks worth visiting. Jeff's gonna have the cruise internet events calendars as well. All coming up in this segment of the In Wheel Time Car Talk Show. Howdy, and good morning to you. Welcome. Along with Mike out of this world, Mars. We always need more Jeff Zeken, master studio and transmitter technician, engineer, and soothsayer David Ainsley. I'm Don Armstrong, glad you could. You didn't know you were a soothsayer, did you? Oh, now you do. Now you know.

SPEAKER_04

All right.

HTX Cars And Houston Meets

Don Armstrong

You gonna charge extra for that? He he charges extra for everything, and you ought to know about that. All right, uh, in the studio, the remote studio here with us today. Omar from HTXCars.com.com. Somebody pop that balloon. You did that. I was gonna say uh so Omar, tell me about uh yourself first. Uh what about you?

SPEAKER_02

Yes, sir. Don, thank you for having me. First of all, thank you for thank you.

Don Armstrong

Pull that microphone a little closer to your mouth because we gotta overtake all of the balloons.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Thank you for the opportunity to be here with you guys. I love the show. I love I love your podcast, and um thank you for having me. Uh a little bit about me. I'm a promoter, I promote uh businesses, and right now we're focusing more in the car culture and the car scene of Houston. So our website focuses on car shows, car meets all over Houston. We post every single meet, every single show uh in Houston and all around Houston, Stafford, Richmond, uh, Sugarland, you name it. And every single meet and show is in there for a community. Um we also promote the businesses that fuel that car scene and the car culture in Houston. And we also write some articles about you know what's what's the the the car crews that make this happen. We we cover all different types of events.

Don Armstrong

Interesting. Yeah. And how long have you been doing this?

SPEAKER_02

Uh well, this is pretty much brand new, if if you will. We started doing it back in October. So we started October last year. Um I I didn't know, I've uh excuse my ignorance, if you will, but uh I didn't know about all this car scene happening in Houston all over. Where the hell have you been? I know, right? I've been here 25 years, uh, and I didn't know about all this. And then I found you, and I found everything. So I see I saw all the car meets and car shows everywhere, but not not a place that connects them all.

Don Armstrong

So you you need to have some age on you like me, buddy. I've you need to come along with us. You don't want that. Yeah, use the computer instead of age. Is that is that right? Forget that. Now we're we're we're car people, we get out and about all the time, and uh, I have done it all my life. And um I think we all have on this on this day. Oh, day, so to speak. Um well it's uh good to have you out here. It's good to meet you. Thank you. We've been hiding somewhere because we go to a lot of a lot of cruise ins and stuff. Yeah, in fact, we've got more cruise ins coming up. Uh next weekend we're gonna be in Beaumont for the tailpipes and tacos at uh Lupi Tortilla.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, yeah.

Don Armstrong

And then um and then we have uh Easter Saturday. We're gonna be at the Lupi Tortilla in Cady for the tailpipes and tacos there with the Easter bunny and a lot of kids, and that's a great one. You need to really make plans to attend that one. That's a good one. Introduce you to Stan that uh is the founder, he's a big drag racing guy, and um it's part of the car culture that we all are part of. Right, and um typically we don't have these kinds of cars, it's more old school, duh, because we're old. On the hot router side, yeah, we're uh yeah, on the hot router side. But uh anyway, so what have you gained from being out here so far today?

SPEAKER_02

Oh, today. Well, let me let me start by saying this. We went uh very early this morning at the post, the one that happened this morning uh in the heart of downtown. We got great footage, we got great video, we saw awesome cars, the vibe was great. And then we head straight out to this one. And uh so far, I mean, I just see all the people, you know, enjoying the meet, enjoying walking around with their families. It's a family-friendly event. I mean, the car the car network has put this together uh in an amazing way. Uh and what we what I get out of this mainly is is the people. I mean, looking at the cars, enjoying the builds, everybody puts a lot of uh different, you know, effort and things into into their builds, but the people that you meet is second to none. I mean, it's you meet the owners, you meet, you know, the passionate people that really care about the car, the car culture in Houston. And that's that's my favorite thing about about going that.

Jeff Dziekan

You got a you got a fan right there? How's how's she connected to you there? Yeah, she's the wife.

SPEAKER_02

She's my beautiful wife, medley. Yeah, we've been married for two years. There you go. She's the boss, yeah. I didn't want to say it that way. I understand. But we all understand it completely. That's right. No, but that's what what we love. I mean, uh community is very important. Uh we go to a lot of uh also classic shows. Well, I saw you guys at the Houston Out of Body show in downtown. That was great. I didn't want to, you know, just come right into you, but I I was there uh so that was a great event. So we try to cover every single event. Sometimes we go to uh four or five events uh per weekend.

Don Armstrong

So, in other words, that you spend a lot of time at the Academy Shoe Department.

SPEAKER_02

I do, I do. Because I believe me, you you know this walking around in this concrete grounds, yeah, it gets your shoes, definitely.

Don Armstrong

And you know, this is uh really the sweet spot of the car show cruise in season. Yes, because as you all know, come July, July, August, September is too hot to do anything. You're gonna do it, you gotta do it at night. Then you gotta find someplace that's lit, and uh good luck in trying to find a place that's lit.

Jeff Dziekan

Exactly, that will allow you to do that. Yes, a lot of places won't let you do that. Yeah, because of the old school, well not the old school, but what what happens today with the takeovers and all that, that's why people are shying away from it.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, there's too much liability. But um this is great. The weather's great. We've got a lot of people wandering around looking at cars and just a lot of family looking people that are just out here enjoying being here. And then you got us. And then you got us sitting over on the side, kind of taking it all in.

Jeff Dziekan

But we gotta we gotta roped off our stanchion roped off so the Russian people don't. Yeah, don't cry. I think it's great.

SPEAKER_02

That's great.

Jeff Dziekan

Yeah, there's that.

SPEAKER_02

But I I think that's uh that's important that you mentioned. I mean, it's important for the community to understand that if if we want to keep enjoying these type of events, they need to be respectful, they need to show up and then just enjoy everything without without uh you know being being crazy about it. And and I think for the most part, people in Houston had had that understanding. Um so I think it's it's great.

SPEAKER_04

Generally speaking, car people know. I mean, you can go up, you can look inside the door and stuff, make sure your belt buckle or your camera doesn't drop down and clang up against doors. Car people know that and they respect the cars. And and like you say, people that are interested generally are the same way. Once in a while there'll be some knucklehead you need to don't don't sit on my hood or something like that to take the pictures of your girlfriend, you know. Correct. Something like that. Crazy people. Yeah, definitely.

SPEAKER_01

You don't believe me? Why do you look at him? He's like, Why do you look at me? Yeah, exactly.

Don Armstrong

I I had nothing to do with that.

SPEAKER_01

I know, but I I've seen that happen.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah. I didn't do that. No, no, no, it wasn't you.

Jeff Dziekan

Yeah, it's all once. I think you see that more on the hot rider side. These guys all understand because they've got certain lighting, they've got certain well, the part right here's got a uh a wrap near finish. Um there's there's different cultures.

Don Armstrong

I was a little bit distracted, I have to admit, because that's a brand new Dodge.

SPEAKER_04

I saw him backing in here.

Don Armstrong

Yes, and um that's one that uh I have not seen in person. And uh yes, it does look like a challenger, and uh but it is awful big. Well, the challenger's big.

SPEAKER_04

Well, but I mean that just I was thinking more of a charger, but it's a two-door, so it can't be a charger.

Don Armstrong

Well, it can be. I don't know what they've done with their lineup because um they haven't schooled us on it. But um it's a two-door challenger or charger. I don't I don't know. But I'm sure that the person that's driving it knows. Brand new doesn't even have a dealer plate on it yet. So yes, I had to I had to check it out. Yes. Um well uh it's it's great to have you here, and um I know that the the knowledge is being absorbed as we speak. And you're going, why am I on this show?

Jeff Dziekan

But here's one thing I need to point out. He said this young lady's his wife, so they're doing it as a family. What is that? There, you know, you you don't see a lot of you know men and women coming out here as a family to do that, so I just that's very cool.

Don Armstrong

Well, there's there's the boys and the girls, the girl boyfriends and the girls.

Jeff Dziekan

Women have their own clubs as well, and then that's good. And they usually beat us with them, but they're they have their own club. That kind of club, yes. Oh, different kind of club.

Don Armstrong

Uh yeah, well, I got it.

Jeff Dziekan

But I think that's great.

Don Armstrong

Well, we appreciate you stopping by and talking to us. Thank you very much. It's great. And um, please stay in touch. So it's uh website is how do we get a hold of you?

SPEAKER_02

htxcars.com. And then same social media. We got a great following in uh TikTok and on Instagram. Uh we pull out a lot of content. You can see car meets. I mean, you can see cars, car meets. We we do a little recap of each event uh in a little video with really good format. And uh we do lives. We're about to go live on on TikTok in about uh 10 minutes.

Don Armstrong

Uh we're gonna be live on there too.

SPEAKER_02

You can, yeah. I can come over and and uh and well we'd love to have you stop. It's gonna be nice. I mean, we get a great follower. Uh the last video that that we posted, I post a weekly video with all the events on TikTok. Uh, we got 20,000 views from Wednesday to now.

Don Armstrong

You do us, we'll do you. How's that?

SPEAKER_02

That sounds good.

Don Armstrong

Well, it might not be the correct way to quit it, but whatever.

SPEAKER_01

In this context, I think, baby. Share and share alike.

Don Armstrong

That's what it is.

SPEAKER_01

I take it in this context. The car context. The car context. Good.

Don Armstrong

Omar, great to talk to you.

SPEAKER_04

I think I can get my computer in there. Yeah. Well, I want to use a hot tub. You have a hot tub, don't you? I can build a bonfire out there. I can turn the crank up the barbecue pit. All right.

Don Armstrong

You know, something tells me there's none of that going to happen, but it's going to be next weekend, so join us for that.

Jeff Dziekan

Take the transmission out of the bathtub and put some warm water in it.

All right, so uh Jonathan, only the few bike crew. Yes, two wheels.

SPEAKER_00

Yes, two wheels.

Don Armstrong

Two wheels. Okay. So uh what do you got?

SPEAKER_00

We are a uh bike group from Katie. Really? Yeah, we we we we're based in Katie, but we go all over the place. Yeah, we uh we go to meets, uh we do car meets, car meets bike meets, car meets, and we also do events for like uh the community. So we did a birthday for a kid that had cancer. We went to a special uh to a special place where they uh they have special people, and then we we also did uh pretty nice.

Don Armstrong

How many in the how many in the group?

SPEAKER_00

In the group, it varies time to time because we invite everyone, so it's not just sport bikes, it's all kinds of motorcycles. So there's sometimes that there's uh 75 or plus or 100 or plus. So really is that your group that came through here this morning? Yes, they're they're the ones that what what is considered a sport bike? A sport bike at anything that goes over 120 miles.

Don Armstrong

Anything that goes over 120 miles an hour on one wheel.

SPEAKER_00

Uh maybe well, some do one wheel, you know, but there was a time I've owned some motorcycles. Have you?

SPEAKER_04

Um never found a motorcycle I couldn't wreck.

Don Armstrong

Couldn't wreck? Oh, that's great.

Jeff Dziekan

You want to see some things? How about you, Jeffrey? I rode a little dirt bike when I was a kid, but it was just a short experience. I'm not a bike guy.

Don Armstrong

I had a I had a Yamaha, I've had Honda, I've had all sorts of stuff. You've had road rash. Right. No, I actually didn't. No, I never had road rash. Thank God. I didn't have any of that. I guess I didn't live. I didn't push it to the limit because I don't think that there was a limit to this other than 35 miles an hour or whatever that thing would go. But uh that those many years ago.

SPEAKER_04

First gear.

Don Armstrong

Oh, yeah, first year.

SPEAKER_04

There's one on here you guys want to try. There's one, the small one here.

Don Armstrong

No, I'm good. And and I I appreciate it. So um what what is the most popular sport bike going right now today that's affordable?

SPEAKER_00

Oh, there's many uh popular bikes right now. Okay. The one that just came out is the R9. Uh Yamaha. It's a Yamaha. R9. Okay. So that one's that just came out.

Don Armstrong

So they still make the Hayabusa?

SPEAKER_00

They do. They do, but that one's expensive. Yeah, you got quite a bit.

Don Armstrong

Well, I mean, because you know I got that kind of taste.

Jeff Dziekan

Right. I did have a Huffy growing up. A Huffy, not that kind of bike. Upgraded to a swing. Oh my god.

SPEAKER_04

Um so how big are these bikes, cubic inch wise?

Don Armstrong

Well, not cubic inch.

SPEAKER_04

Not CC, whatever.

SPEAKER_00

CCs? Well, um, normally in our group, we don't have bigger bikes like that. It's normally like a thousand or less. Thousand or less. Yeah. Most of the if they have a higher CCs, they like just to take off, you know. And we usually ride in a group. So we have a lead 650, 750. 6750, 1000, you know. And people have bigger bikes, they just take off or they don't wait for us.

Don Armstrong

You know, does Honda build anything in uh your category?

SPEAKER_00

Yes, they do.

Don Armstrong

What is it?

SPEAKER_00

The CBR 1000.

Don Armstrong

So is it a is it a four-stroke? Uh yes. Yes, it's it is, it's four stroke.

Jeff Dziekan

And um young guy like that, very knowledgeable about it.

SPEAKER_00

My head.

Don Armstrong

Well, why wouldn't he be?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. No, I have a Kawasaki 650.

Don Armstrong

You have a Kawasaki 650. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

So I don't I don't go that fast. So you're gonna laugh.

Don Armstrong

I think that's okay you do laugh because back in my day.

Jeff Dziekan

But I don't go that fast.

Don Armstrong

When I when I got the urge to get in a motorcycle, I was in middle school. That was a long time ago. And the hot thing back then was the Honda 50.

Jeff Dziekan

Oh wow.

Don Armstrong

Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. My God, I looked, I looked for one of these things. I did ride one. You can very very rarely find one. If you do, oh my god, they're outrageously priced.

Jeff Dziekan

Almost like a regular.

Don Armstrong

And all of the kids that were my age, and I mean 15 years old, 14, something like that. Uh the kid got the bike because he made good grades in school. His dad gave it to him for a birthday present. And he was the bomb, man. Oh my god, he had a Honda 50. Yeah, yeah. Because, you know, back then, Honda was new to the United States, period. They didn't have cars, it was it was motorcycles, and that was it. And uh, it was the bomb, man, and everybody wanted that. So you've got to have some youngsters that are really into the sport bikes. What is the first bike that you would guess would be like a 14-15-year-old just got his driver's license? What would he go for? Something that would be affordable to him, obviously not necessarily new, but that's used, that he could pick up.

SPEAKER_00

Uh the 300 or 400 CCs. Yep. That's what uh mostly everyone starts on. Okay.

Don Armstrong

And it would be any particular brand? Yeah, any particular brand. Any brand.

SPEAKER_00

Any brand. Yeah. Because every oh yeah, all brand, all mod all make they all make this uh 300 and 400 and 300.

Don Armstrong

And so how much would something like that cost? Yamaha or Suzuki or whatever, name it.

Beginner Bikes And Safety Talk

SPEAKER_00

So whenever I first started riding, I had the 400 Kawasaki, and that was around 5,000.

Jeff Dziekan

That's a lot of money. So where you talk you're looking for a bike. Mike's looking for a bike, he's a new rider. Do you go? Where would you go? Do you does one dealership carry all the brands? Do you go to a bike dealer that carries specifically Yamaha? Or you look online. Because you can go to a you can go to a Harley store and you see Harley's.

SPEAKER_00

But for sports bikes, they don't have uh specific sports. Like you if you go to Wild West or to uh uh different uh dealerships, they have all kinds of bikes. Including used ones? Yeah, including used ones. Yeah. But normally if you want to use one, it's better to get it out of marketplace and not from a dealership.

Don Armstrong

It'd be better if I were to offer anything, I would say find a club. Find out about the guys in the club, because everybody in the club, you know somebody that's selling a bike. So do you, so do you, so do you. And that's what I would do. I don't want one on some stock thing. I want something that's you know, off where the you know, he's got his uh exhaust system on it or he's got an intake system on training wheels.

SPEAKER_00

Because all the stuff that they put on it, like the saws, all the mods, yeah, the mods and everything. So there's some that they're worth more than the new ones. So

SPEAKER_04

So you need to talk again to his point. You kind of need to talk to somebody like you to have a guide to say, okay, this this is a new bike for 5,000. He wants 8,000 for it. Is it worth 8,000 now with his mods and all that stuff? You need to do things like that.

Jeff Dziekan

And there's just not just not uh men in it. There's women that ride, and there's women that have cleaned up.

SPEAKER_00

My wife rides, she's right there. That's my wife right there. She rides uh and what do you have? A faster bike than me. 1200 is 636. The 636 Owasaki. So that one is way faster than mine. So yeah.

Don Armstrong

Do you have an automobile?

SPEAKER_00

I do.

Don Armstrong

What is that?

SPEAKER_00

I have uh Audi A6 and I have uh Chevrolet.

Don Armstrong

He's got an Audi A6.

Jeff Dziekan

He's not paying attention.

Don Armstrong

Okay. Good for you.

Jeff Dziekan

Nice. Is it yours or is it hers? It's hers. You just glommed on, didn't you? Yeah.

Don Armstrong

I got that look in your eye. I know. I know you. I know you.

Jeff Dziekan

She let me sit, didn't it?

Don Armstrong

Exactly. Uh, you know, it it's uh it it it's interesting. Our cultures, we've so we've got the car guys here, then we got the bike people. But there's also that cross hatch where you got these car guys, yeah. I got a bike too. What do you got? Oh, I got that ten thousand dollar bike over there. Yeah. You you you like motion, and uh that that's what it's all about. I mean, you like going to the races? What what if if you were gonna go to a race, what would it be? A car race or a bike race?

SPEAKER_00

I'll do a bike race. Bike race.

Don Armstrong

So Coda's got one. Is it this weekend?

SPEAKER_00

It's uh this this month, yeah.

Don Armstrong

Um I've never been to a bike race, especially at a track like Coda, but I've seen it on television. I'm going, oh hell no. No, I'm not doing that. I mean, I'll go fast in a car, but I'm not doing that on a bike. I might have sometime in my life earlier days, but not today.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

Don Armstrong

You know, to me, I you know, I really don't even have a desire to get one of those great big gold wings or whatever. I got a friend of mine that has one of those. Oh, I love it, man. You can't even pick the thing up. You can't. Well, if it goes over on its side, you're done. You gotta get some help.

SPEAKER_00

They're heavy. Yeah. Yeah, they're heavy. No, I no longer know helmet. Yeah, helmet. It has to be a helmet. Good. Yeah. Yeah. We talk about wearing them on the desk here too.

Don Armstrong

Well, I I will say this, and I don't want to be a Debbie Downer on it, but I fly in news helicopters, so uh I get to see some really ugly actions.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, yeah, yeah, all the time. Very ugly. Yeah.

Don Armstrong

And uh no. So that that shaded me about going the motorcycle route. I'll stay in the car with the seatbelt.

SPEAKER_00

Well, that's the reason we started uh the the group, because we ride together to a place where we eat and there's they're not out there, you know, going fast. How often do you get out as a group? We do Tuesday, Taco Tuesday. We do taco Thursday.
