Celebrating Earth Mama Magic: Sunflowers, Community, and Willie Nelson
Have you ever looked at a sunflower and wondered what secrets it might be hiding? In this episode, we dive deep into the remarkable versatility of these sunshine-filled blooms that offer so much more than just seeds and beauty.
Our exploration reveals the surprising truth that nearly every part of a sunflower is edible and nutritionally valuable - from the petals that brighten salads to the young stalks that taste similar to celery. We share our experiences growing mammoth sunflowers reaching 12 feet tall and discover their remarkable environmental superpowers as phytoremediators capable of cleaning contaminated soil by absorbing heavy metals and even radioactive elements.
The conversation naturally flows from garden wisdom to community celebrations as we excitedly discuss the upcoming 26th anniversary of Cheryl's Club, a beloved local establishment where connections flourish and memories are made. We reflect on the powerful concept of "unlearning and remembering" - questioning what we've accepted as normal while reconnecting with ancestral knowledge that helps us forge healthier paths forward.
Our storytelling takes you along to a magical evening seeing Willie Nelson perform at Alpine Valley, experiencing the transgenerational appeal of a 90-year-old legend who still shares his gifts with the world. Throughout the episode, you'll feel our genuine joy in discovering nature's bounty, celebrating community milestones, and finding meaning in shared experiences.
Whether you're a gardener, a food enthusiast, or simply someone seeking more natural approaches to everyday living, this episode offers fresh perspectives on working with nature's gifts. Follow us on this journey of discovery and let us know what parts of nature you're exploring in your own life!

SPEAKER_03:Come on, Rod the chain. And rat it. Come on, Rod the chain. And rat it.
SPEAKER_06:Oh always gotta start out with a little bit of fun and dance and high vibrations. Yes. We are at it again, live recording our podcast numero 20. 20. 20 podcasts in sunshine, and we're just getting started.
SPEAKER_02:That's cool. Does it seem like 20? No. Me, I know. I don't think so either. It does not.
SPEAKER_06:But it's getting easier. It is. I must say. It's getting feeling more natural, more conversational, more vulnerable. Yes. Ah, just all of it. This is my bestie sunshine. For those of you who have never came across this beautiful soul that roams the land and spreads joy wherever she goes, all the time, it seems. It really does seem that way. It's one of your superpowers, sunshine.
SPEAKER_02:And this is my bubblish friend who's always high vibing and ready for action and getting the party jumping and started and just spreading her love and joy. Just so infectious.
SPEAKER_06:Ain't nobody gonna steal my joy. That old church song in my soul. Okay, it's in. It's the music is intertwined. I can't stop.
SPEAKER_02:She's got the music here. She's got the music here.
SPEAKER_06:We will talk about that. Yes. And we are just too high-vibing Earth Mamas, Jesus loving crusaders on a mission to spread peace, love, and light.
unknown:Amen.
SPEAKER_06:And aside from all that, our mission, you might be wondering, is to spread awareness and education and alternatives to everyday people, really anybody, all vertebrae species, that are looking to enhance their quality of life naturally, holistically. So we're inviting you on this wonderful adventure to discover, explore, play, and create with all of nature's gifts. Ah! So many. Today we are featuring this beautiful babe right here. Sunshine sunflowers. Sunshine, sunflowers. It goes hand in hand.
SPEAKER_02:They are by far like I don't have favorites, but they're one of my favorites.
SPEAKER_06:When I think of you, I think of sunflowers, honestly. I mean, the obvious is the sun, but they say sunflowers, it has it in the name. So it would only be normal that if you put sunshine into a flower, which happens every day with photosynthesis.
unknown:Yes.
SPEAKER_06:Oh, it's so much fun growing these sunflowers. They're so easy to grow. Yeah. Yeah, just put the seed in the ground and water it and bam. I'm talking mammoth sunflowers. I mean, some of those sunflowers can get to be this big flowerheads on there. Can you imagine all the seeds? And from that one flowerhead can plant an entire field of sunflowers. It's like the gift that just keeps on giving.
SPEAKER_01:It's so beautiful, too. They're so tall as well. Like I'd say ours are to guess 12 feet tall.
SPEAKER_06:Yes. And sometimes there's so many different like buds and flower heads on there. Yeah. And I just love to see the birds and the bees and the flowers and the chicken. But like all the pollinators buzzing around them and like they're just teeming with life. It's like it's a whole little like own ecosystem there, like the sunflower patch. Remember when we did that sunflower circle?
SPEAKER_02:Ah, I do. That was like the best day ever. Sitting in the sunflower circle, laying in the hammock with kittens and our besties and the kiddos. Oh, yes, I do. We're gonna do that again next year for sure.
SPEAKER_06:Yes, we are. And then I had the crazy idea. I was like, you know, we should do next year. Because the sunflower circles is quite the feat. I remember Uncle Dave was like helping us along do the sunflower. You have to like establish your radius and then work out from the diameter and kind of like really circle it out. Otherwise, you're gonna miss the spot. It's not gonna look like a circle. Yeah. So a little, a lot of effort went into it. And then we did our rain dance. Remember, we're like, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Let it rain. And it did. Because it gotta get rained in. Almost like when you plant anything, you gotta have it rained in. But it did, and then this beautiful sunflower circle came to be, and I was like, next year we should totally write like something in the hemp fields with like the sunflower, so like the aerial like drone view, it would be like peace. Like DNA, or I don't know what it would say, but oh, a B sign would look cool. Right? That would be really cool. That would be really cool. Then you have like circles inside of the circles, and then before you know, we're just creating this ultimate vortex of awesomeness. Or a sunflower maze. Oh, that would be good. Yeah, a lot of people have talked about a corn maze, but a sunflower maze would be.
SPEAKER_02:Or a sunflower hemp maze.
SPEAKER_06:Ho ho ho. While the northern lights are happening. I mean, because I think like jar. For some reason, I just went to Halloween.
SPEAKER_07:Yeah.
SPEAKER_06:Like in my head, it was like the haunted sunflower hemp maze. With because it right around harvest time, we think of Halloween, and then we get a hit of Jay from the gift nook. Yeah. And he said he has like the entire all the things we could ever hope and dream. Scary, leery things that are he's like got a treasure trove of scary, scary things that he can use to make a haunted garden, sunflower hemp maze. Yes. I say let's do it. Whoa. Well, we just spoke it into existence. I'm pretty sure the seeds have already been planted. And it's all happening. Who's in? Who's coming with us? Who's coming over for that?
SPEAKER_02:Or photo apps, like take your senior photos there or family photos. That would be really cool.
SPEAKER_06:That would be really, really cool. And then we'll have different, we'll offer teas and farm treats and snacks. I'm loving the CSA box that, or the farm to table box that we created for our visitors this week. Oh my gosh. It was gorgeous.
SPEAKER_02:I think we're on to something. I did too. It was bossing with beautiful buds and flowers and mushrooms and what? Her succulents. Oh yeah, herbs, galore. Yeah. All the colors and the greens and it's beautiful.
SPEAKER_06:We shared one online, so you guys gotta go check it out. It was so much fun to create just to like to harvest the herbs and like walk around like together in unison, just capturing all of the magic that is out there right now to be harvested, and then create that box and then be able to give it to somebody as just a gift.
SPEAKER_02:Oh, their faces like just lit up. Autumn.
SPEAKER_06:In exchange for that. And I feel like one of it was kind of like a barter, but she didn't know it. She didn't go into it thinking that she was gonna get that, but she did. Sweet Autumn from Fall Marie came and did a photo shoot because we're like, hey, we gotta come check out all of this harvest goodness. And she came over and tried to capture the essence and left with that box, which was super, super awesome. Her face on that, yeah. If we can capture that. Yeah, we should have. We definitely have the surprise factor. Oh, I think that's good. Is that good? Yes.
SPEAKER_02:Hi, Ruby. I'm sorry.
SPEAKER_06:Ruby Dovini is also kids a potty. Yes. She likes to send flowers too. Oh. She sure does. But we are seriously, like you said. I like the size of her.
SPEAKER_02:She doesn't love her mama at all. Oh, I love the Ruby kisses, even though they smell like fish. From the pet oil, right?
unknown:Yeah.
SPEAKER_06:Or maybe the food. I feel like your food has has the fish into it. Or I sometimes have feeder fish scan. I'm like, I don't know if it's helping the cause, Ruby, but I know it's skin for her coat, so. Oh yeah. Anyways, we digress. We digress. Sunflower magic. We, like you said, are seriously under utilizing the sunflower.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah, after some research, not just the seeds, and they're not just beautiful bouquets, but you can eat like the whole thing. Yeah.
SPEAKER_06:From the buds to the to the flower to the petals are great in a salad or as a garnish, um, or even the buds. Here, should we pull out one? Yeah.
SPEAKER_02:Here we go. These little guys, before they do their beautiful budding.
SPEAKER_06:You can eat those and steam them like an artichoke. Come on. I bet you could. I don't see why not. Yum. Delicious. And all that nutrition packed into that little bud. And the leaves. You can also, it turns out what you can eat. I have never ate a sunflower level. Never have I ever ate a sunflower leaf. Have you? Nope. We're about to find out here. Because why not? It's a little hairy, but I don't mind it. Better than kale. Yeah. I feel like kale's like, but we eat it because we know it's a superfood. Well, turns out this baby is too. Woo! What a thought. I can't believe it.
SPEAKER_02:You can do the whole head, you said, right?
SPEAKER_06:Yeah, people saute, they'll like remove the petals and then like saute the flower head. And that is really delicious too on the grill or pan fry it. Oh, on the grill. Yes. People swear by it. It's especially when it starts like closing in and more seeds form. Once more, I think that's more when the seeds are really forming in there, and that's what you're using.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah, because we've heard about sunflower seeds and sunflower oil is a big one, right?
SPEAKER_06:Because it has a good cooking temperature. A high cooking temperature, which is really nice.
SPEAKER_02:And the bugs love it.
SPEAKER_06:And then the shoots and sprouts from sunflowers. I'm obsessed with sprouts and microgreens lately. I think they're absolutely amazing. They blow my mind that all the nutrition is just packed in that tiny little sprout. So I take a handful of them, like, I just ate 20 broccoli heads. Yeah, I think my vegetable intake is good for today, but here's some more. But that's kind of crazy to think in the sprout, you get all of that nutrition delicious. And I love sunflower sprouts. I think they're wonderful on like avocado toast in your salad, garnishing with it. I'll even sub it for my lettuce on a sandwich. Any sprouts in general, but sunflowers I feel like are a little meatier. Yeah. They fill you up a little bit more than some of the other greens do. So that is yummy too. More substance. Okay, and I can't even. The stalks, the center pith of the stalk can be tender when young and eating like celery. Come on. Alright. People are sad, like, what? Yeah. Just um peel that off. Yeah. And bite it. I dare ya. Do it, do it, do it.
SPEAKER_02:But I want you to have some too. Oh, yeah, I will. Don't put it in there. Well, it's just an e degree.
SPEAKER_06:Yum. Yeah. Celery, a sub for celery. No shortage. Celery sub. Come on. Yeah. It takes a little energy to get to that. Yeah. But I think it's well worth it. And for how abundant things are. I feel like celery is kind of hard to grow sometimes because it's made up of like 95% water, right? And all that cellulose. So I feel like you really do have to water it. But sunflowers, I feel like, don't really need all the extra attention. You really could just plant a field of sunflower and let nature do its work.
SPEAKER_02:Here, that's more like celery, though, of course.
unknown:Let's see.
SPEAKER_02:Once you peel the prickly parts. Yeah, it's got like those strings in it, like it's sweet. Yeah.
SPEAKER_06:So it's got a little sweet flavor to it. Who would have thought? Oh my goodness, I love you, sunflower. I love you. There's even more reasons to love a beautiful sunflower and utilize it. So when you get that sunflower in your bouquet, if it's from an organic farmer, what should you do? Eat it! Why not? Yeah, the sunflower oil, cooking oil, frying baking, salad dressings, high iolic varieties are especially stable for high temperature cooking. So really great oil, not just the olives. I feel like olive oil is more used for like dipping and like salads. Yeah. Because it's just it takes a lot to get the olive oil out of this. But this was so plenchful. They're even it's a biofuel. Wouldn't you know it? You can fuel a vehicle on sunflower oil. Isn't that crazy? That's amazing. Run diesel engines, sometimes mixed with petroleum diesel. We got some research to do or some advancements to make working with nature. And the seeds, of course, I love it as a snack. I'll just eat like a handful. I'll also I put it on everything in the parfaits that we're making in the I hide them in my protein balls with the kids because you know they're small and don't really have a big taste to them. So they'll eat them. Great source of small but mighty. Mm-hmm. Baked goods, breads, muffins, cereals, your confections. Sweet treat. The butter, a popular nut-free spread alternative to peanut butter.
SPEAKER_02:Oh, I wonder.
SPEAKER_06:Some flow butter.
SPEAKER_02:Do you just grind up the nut?
SPEAKER_06:Yes.
SPEAKER_02:The seeds?
SPEAKER_06:Make the yeah. I would assume. We'd have to consult a recipe book, but I'm sure there's one out there just to Google search away. I've never done it, but I wouldn't mess around and find out. Yeah. Seed meal for cakes. The leftover after oil extraction is a rich in protein and it's primarily used as a liver stock feed or fertilizer. So compost it, right? Work it right back in. Nothing goes to waste. Utilizing the whole plant. I don't know. It's they're talking too about the physical structure and the unique properties of sunflower. Because it is a sturdy flower. I feel like it's del the petals are delicate, but it really can withstand a lot.
SPEAKER_02:Oh yeah. So wind, rain, storms. Yes. If the head gets too big, they'd suggest tie them up and give them a little more support. But yeah, they're super strong. Reminds me a lot of hemp. Not gonna lie. Honestly. Yes.
SPEAKER_06:She has strong phytoremediator. Phytoremediator. That's it. Say that three times fast. Goodness. So it cleans the soil.
SPEAKER_02:Whoa.
SPEAKER_06:Sunflowers are hyper hyperaccumulators, meaning they can absorb and store high concentrations of toxic materials like heavy metals and even radioactive elements. Nuclear.
SPEAKER_02:What? So that's why it's very important if you're gonna eat it and consume it to make sure it's organic and from a good source, right? Otherwise, it could be nuclear.
SPEAKER_06:Yeah, it's soaking everything up in the arc. Yeah.
unknown:Wow.
SPEAKER_06:Oh my gosh, famously used after Chernobyl and Fukushima nuclear incidents. Plant sunflowers. And be like a super bioaccumulator. Just clean it up. Got it, guys. Something beautiful. Isn't that what nature always does? But you know, another some more garden uses is that birds just love it. So I feel like it's providing that natural food source for birds, and they are feeling healthy and good and can withstand all the elements, which is wonderful. Garden structures, you could use stalks, trellises, supports, compost, and for your mulch.
SPEAKER_02:I use it as like a fence. I just made like a line in my yard. It's kind of like a natural fence. Yes, but a happy fence line.
SPEAKER_06:It was so pretty fat. Even dyes, yellow dyes to be used from the flower petals.
SPEAKER_02:That would make sense. Like a dandelion. How they have that yellow.
SPEAKER_06:And they say the seeds can make a purple dye too.
unknown:Interesting.
SPEAKER_06:So that's really awesome as well. And of course, you know, it's just good as well in bouquets. I feel like that's where you're traditionally seeing it, but holy cats!
SPEAKER_02:I think of summer, I think of a sunflower.
SPEAKER_06:Yes. So I just one of my favorite things is planting them and spreading them in bouquets and flowers because they always just bring smiles. Yeah. Sunshine, who did you give it to?
SPEAKER_02:My post office lady. I gave her a bouquet of sunflowers and she like looked like she wanted to cry with happiness. She was like, thank you. I just popped in and out. I didn't want to say anything. I was like, here, this is for you. Oh, did you mail anything?
unknown:No.
SPEAKER_02:No, you just like shipping some orders, but yeah.
SPEAKER_07:I didn't have to put it to her.
SPEAKER_06:Yes. You! This is for you. Hey! Well, that's the best time because it's like they're not expecting it. It's totally just a gift of appreciation. Yeah. Hanging forward.
SPEAKER_02:I know you said you were getting to your children's teachers. What a great idea. Brighten up the classroom.
SPEAKER_06:Everybody, everywhere I went, I brought a sunflower with me of okay. Friends, family, different service workers. Everyone's getting sunflowers. Normally it would be hemp. So I feel like there was a while, there was a long period in my life where I just brought hemp flour with me wherever I went. But and I still do. I'll put it in with the bouquet.
SPEAKER_02:You know, the combination is stunning.
SPEAKER_06:Yes. As I loved creating those bouquets at Cheryl's Club because then people can just see it. But sometimes I feel like for the parse average, if I am handing this out to strangers just to be a joygiver because it's amazing, because that's a defined mission. Like, I don't want them to think I'm handing them anything illegal or make them feel uncomfortable. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01:I do love the shock factors.
SPEAKER_06:Yeah. Like, oh my gosh. But normally it's like the tribe, right? Like we've on the tribe. So I got the stash in the back. I'll look you up. But just for like strangers, I'm just like, we'll start with the sunflower because then they won't be surprised. When I bust out the hemp, they'll be like, oh, that's example. She's got hemp tube. Hemp tube? Yeah, yeah, yeah. So we have a whole bucket here. I'm actually gonna just pull this up because I would just like to show.
SPEAKER_04:Oh, what we harvested from out there. And we'll be just going around and about in the community. Sunflowers, delivering these beautiful flower bouquets.
SPEAKER_06:It's like my natural habitat here.
SPEAKER_03:I just love it.
SPEAKER_06:And all you know what's wonderful? Besides a few that we've wildcrafted and that nature provided, we grew all of these. So how special is that? So special.
SPEAKER_02:And to find them happy homes is just so rewarding. You delight! You delight. Especially this weekend. I don't want to jump into it, but what's this weekend at Cheryl's Club?
SPEAKER_06:Jump into it. We be jumping. I'm like, where are we jumping? That's we're diving. Okay. Cheryl's Club 175 in Slinger, Wisconsin, is my mother's place. My mom is Cheryl. She is a wonderful mentor and entrepreneur entrepreneur that has stood the test of time. From what her she has experienced over the years being a bar restaurant owner and being able to adapt and go with the flow and hold space and with her service heart and business mindset. I don't know where, like, she is a force. And real. She is celebrating 26 years since 1999. 26 years in business. Yes, Cher Bear. For my dear Mama Cher Bear, who is in fact coming with us to Cancun, Mexico. It is sunshine and bubbles. Dragonfly Princess, pretty Rachy, and Mama Cher to hold it down. I'm so excited for that trip. But we offer it, we were like, we're like, Do you wanna, do you wanna come with us? And she was like, I would love it because honestly, she's the most hardest work, most hardworking lady I know. She works six days a week opening up that bar. I'm on one day a week for Fridays, but I have been there full time for a good portion of my life, for 15 years of my life. I worked there full time, laying it all down there out there and building what it is today. And we're like super sweet, proud mother hens over there. Just because it's like you're in the driver's seat, you're in control, you're making all the decisions. Like, and there's daily decisions, many of them need to be made. And especially with working with the public, that just has a whole thing. Oh man. I mean, we have hundreds of people walking through our door on the daily. Yeah. So from our staff to the cleanliness, I feel like she's always kept such a clean bar. You got time to lean, you got time to clean. She runs a tight ship for real. She has high expectations, but that's what makes her so successful, and that's why people just love her because she's consistently awesome and keeps raising the bar and keeps doing the cutting edge and is not afraid to try new things. I think she's like the chameleon, right? Like she just adapts to it and a lion. She's like the chamellia lion. Camellia.
SPEAKER_02:And female. Like in the bar industry, like it's not easy, right? If it'd be easy, everybody knew it. But yeah, for her to stand the test of time and keep rocking. Amazing.
SPEAKER_06:Ah, so we would love. We're inviting everybody and their grandma. Because there has been lots of grandmas that come out to that blue room that made that joint famous. We hear lots, there's a lot of history there. Bring your key. We don't forget. It's the unlearning and remembering of our of the ones who came before us. Imagine how many babies were conceived. Ooh, how there's been a lot of love there. A lot of good memories. I feel like way more good than bad, but there has been some dams, too. And some doozies. We got some stories. We do, we do. But looking back, you know, we can laugh about them. Yeah. So we're still here. We're still rocking. Party on. And we have a kick-ass band, ID90, that has a pretty good following that is going to be playing all the favorite jammy jams. I think it's a very wide eclectic variety of music that we'll be offering. And Mama Cheryl's heart is so big. She does this every time for anniversary party and Christmas, also. Free drinks. Free drinks for one hour.
SPEAKER_04:Like people are thirsty, I'll tell you.
SPEAKER_06:So it is wild. I'm bartending. Yes. Behind the copper top. I'm closing the club. I have not done a closing shift shift in years. Yeah, yeah, rah.
SPEAKER_02:Welcome back. It's like riding a bike.
SPEAKER_06:No, I have no. I remember last time I did a closing shift. I was walking funny. I'm not kidding. I was like, it is like 10 hours, 10, 12 hours. On your feet, not stop. On your feet, non-stop. Like the energy, like you're sweating. You're saying that. And you're like, oh my God, I want to wear the GoPro. Jamie Hayes always said that. She's like, we need to wear the GoPro while we're boarding. I would, I'm down, I'm gay.
SPEAKER_02:It would be fun. Yes. Yeah. Just see that.
SPEAKER_06:As long as people know, like that's what I'm like. But they don't they would be laughing, maybe smiling. Do the ray bands. Oh my gosh, do the ray band do the ray bands. Don't tempt me with a good time. I just might have to go live with these babies. Yeah. Oh my gosh. Why does that make me nervous? I don't know. I don't know. It's not like you're even on it. I know. I just don't want to like, you know, people are partying and having a good time. Oh. I'm really doing it. Yeah. Yep. We're just gonna throw it out there. You and there's tons of shock girls too. I feel like there's like three sets of shock girls that can come out that are handing out all their latest creation stations from the big brands that are supporting their local business. So I feel like that's another great way to try new things and come out. And even if you have a story to share or you have it in your heart to make some new stories with us to share, we would love to serve you. Because I think one of her slogans, and I always just truly adored this, and we used to have to answer the phone. It was a mouthful. Everyone that calls, say it, Sunshine. You know it.
SPEAKER_02:Although Cherosclub, where there's no strangers, just friends you haven't met yet. How can I help you?
SPEAKER_06:Where there's no strangers, just friends you haven't met yet. And to have that mindset mentality mantra, if you will, has been really great because people are just coming there for the camaraderie. You know, you could go anywhere.
SPEAKER_02:And people come to Cheryl's because you have so many groups like Bingo and card players and well, Dart and Pools, obviously, but yeah, you got a lot going on there.
SPEAKER_06:Yeah. Bowling and trivia and a karaoke and DJs and you name it, we got it going. Oh, yeah, but Caleb Hyatt, who just blows my mind every time I see him on Friday night. Some tableside entertainment. Yeah, we used to have like go-go dancers. Oh man. The shadow dancers on the box. Oh my gosh. Feed the fish. Oh, there's so much food. Oh, oh you oh no, you didn't remind me of feeding the fish. I might not, I won't wear a skirt. I won't wear a dress because I might have to. This whole thing. You better get in there. This whole thing better get up there, feeding fishes. Thirsty. Thursday. It's like mama's going, mama's going out. That's why I quit doing nights, honestly, because I was like, this is becoming my night out. I think it's different now that I don't drink alcohol. So I'm really excited to kind of take this shift. Having being so like sober and, you know, seeing that as possible. Oh, yeah. Because I think that was my biggest as a bartender. I when I look back, I not to say I would do it any different because I loved the, I mean, it was so much fun. I was dubbed the Duchess of Debauchery. Oh. That was an instigator. Should have earned that title. All good vibes. But I think I wouldn't. My mom said that the secret to her success, because she is bartended everywhere. She's had hit, she just didn't open up Cheryl's Glob one day because she wanted to open up a bar. That girl's deep-rooted in her service industry. That's where she met my dad at the Orchard Inn.
SPEAKER_07:Oh.
SPEAKER_06:And she worked at the Slinger House there. She, I remember her days of being cooking, having an entire full bar, serving them drinks, and cooking their food, and ringing you out. Mm-hmm. Like, what? That's how Cheryl started. Yes. You were everything. She worked at the mine shaft, uh, race away. I remember when I was a girl, I would help her plate the fish fries. She was in the kitchen. She's cooking. And bartending too, I bet. I was doing a little bit of both. And uh I'd be I'd be on the potato slicer. We had those big old potatoes, I'd be like just all night slicing those fresh potatoes, which were worth they were so good. Those are still my favorite. I just love them. Made with love.
SPEAKER_04:Yeah.
SPEAKER_06:But her her secret to success was not drinking behind the bar. She said she just can't, you gotta lay off the sauce to be the boss. And if it don't make dollars, it don't make sense. And one napkin per customer.
unknown:Yes.
SPEAKER_06:You can get another one after Earth Soil, but just one. You don't need to.
SPEAKER_02:No. You don't need just one. Yeah. Yeah. Oh my gosh. I am so honored that I learned how to barge in there. Because I feel like, yeah, standards are high.
SPEAKER_06:She's setting you up for success. Successes were had at Cheryl's Club. Oh, so many good memories. And I can't wait to connect and share with them on Saturday. It's going to be so much fun behind the bar. Just where I need to be. I'm so excited. And it's kind of wild because uh my brother has also, for a period of his life, has worked there bartending and being a manager, helping out after my dad was sick and then passed away, and we were kind of taking care of mom in the best way we know how, even though she didn't, nor know she didn't need our help. She got this all day long. But, anyways, she loved having you there. She did well, we loved being a part of it when we learned. And I think, you know, there is gonna come a day where it's gonna be good to know what you're doing over there. So we got it out tight. But Michael's bartending too, my brother. My big brother, my bro, Tato. So to see him behind the bar is definitely gonna be he's gonna be like the very creature back there. I remember one time there was a write up in the newspaper about him, and it called him the master mixologist. Michael. Oh. So come see him in action. Oh my gosh. Dutch as a debacle. Master Michael. Like, wow. So, so good. Have a beginnings, friends. Oh my gosh. And honestly, if you ever need like a mood boost or like a pick-me-up, go to the club. I'm telling you, those people are so nice. I don't think we'd be in business. My mom wouldn't have kept her doors open for so long if it wasn't for the people. The guests are just so kind. They just have so much love. They want to be loved and just like anybody and have so much love to give. And I feel like when you create the right environment for that to thrive of people that like-minded people that care about our community, it's a small town in Slinger. So, you know, just keeps getting smaller. So I feel like when you create that environment and for those relationships to flourish is just so exciting there. And that's why I think my mom keeps getting up day in and day out and doing what she does because it really is all about the people and making a smile, bringing smiles and smiles in the aisles. Oh, and we've had some wonderful bartenders that are my some of my best friends.
SPEAKER_02:Oh, we had so much fun.
SPEAKER_06:That we met along the way.
SPEAKER_02:So much fun.
SPEAKER_06:And without Cheryl's, there would be there would there, you know, but then it takes a team. It takes a team.
SPEAKER_01:It really takes a team.
SPEAKER_06:Yes. It really, I mean, so, and also, yeah, so our guests, we went through that our guests, but our squad is tight. Like, I love our veteran bartenders, past, present, future. It takes a certain type of person to work at Cheryl's Club. You gotta be, you gotta be smart, you gotta be beautiful inside and out. You gotta be, you gotta have serve, you gotta have a big heart.
SPEAKER_02:You gotta be in psychiatry, you gotta be quick. Yep, yep. Listening ears, always.
SPEAKER_06:I'm still working on that. I'll do better.
SPEAKER_02:And can we talk about the food? Oh, oh, yummy. Shout out to the kitchen staff, because you guys gotta go now. Oh, yes, the tacos and the wings and the specials. Oh, the fish fries.
SPEAKER_06:The secret food that they feed me when I ask on request. I'm like, hey, hey, uh, any of that meat leftover, any of that pastor left over from Taco TV. Say, how about a burrito? That's my favorite. I can't. I cannot. The burrito. I mean, and I feel like they always kind of like mix up something special for the staff, right? Like it's so delicious. But especially for the people, they're consistent, just consistently delicious every single time and very conscientious about what they put out. I feel like there's a lot of pride back there in that kitchen about what they're doing.
SPEAKER_02:And mind you, that kitchen is not big. No, there is not a lot of wiggle room. So what they pump out of there is amazing. Right.
SPEAKER_06:Yes. And the variety, and yeah, just two too.
SPEAKER_02:Please.
SPEAKER_06:Alab. Let's go to Cheryl's Club of Destination Nation. Oh, and all the charities and events and poker runs and weddings and celebrations of life and yeah. Just celebrations. You know what plan a well, we've had some funerals too. I think we've done this. Yeah, yeah. Okay. Party!
SPEAKER_02:Oh, Cheryl's called. The mothership. It's the mothership.
SPEAKER_06:We really do. We've I feel like we have to bring it up because we cross post on Cheryl's Club, and that's where a lot of the people our viewers and listeners are from there. And from the kind of like that bar restaurant circuit. And we're so happy to have them because you know they're they're learning.
SPEAKER_02:And she's supported DNA since day one.
SPEAKER_06:Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_02:Elevated cocktails. We had some fun parties there, 420 parties.
SPEAKER_06:My mom has been my biggest fan and supporter, that is for sure. She'll, it's a miracle. She'll say, Oh god, a miracle! Yes, mother, test tip, test tip fi. But she's our first retail location. And Danny's first display that he had a custom made for behind the bar on the back bar, and then navigating that and having the patience and grace and like just trust in us has been so amazing because she really had had let us do whatever we want over there with like blind trust. And that's like the mother's love, right? And and I feel like she's brought you her bonus daughter. I feel like she's out, she always has had the nicest things to say about you. Oh, that's a true friend, Ashley. Now that they're they don't make them like her every day. Oh no, now that is a good person. She is a true friend.
SPEAKER_02:She took a chance on me. I was young. She didn't have young bartenders when I started. She took a chance.
SPEAKER_06:Yeah, it worked out. Oh my gosh, I have the Cher song, Take a Chance on Me. Take a chance on me. Oh, Cher.
SPEAKER_02:Remember when the lady at Body Pop said I looked like Cher? Yeah. I didn't see it until she said it. And now I can't unsee it. Really? Uh yeah. Yeah. Now Cher keeps popping up on my feed. The figure and the hair and the just the style and grace.
SPEAKER_06:And she started when she's a little older too. I feel like she was in her 30s when she kind of like popped off. If I'm not mistaken. I don't know. I watched like this progression of it was like a short video of like her over the years and how her she's just an icon, how she's transformed, and I feel like she's aging in reverse.
SPEAKER_01:For real.
SPEAKER_06:She really is. I can only hope. I'm I'm more of a I'm a natural gal, and I'd like to think Cher is too.
SPEAKER_01:I do. I do. Yes.
SPEAKER_02:I think she had a show, and every time she would like have these just glorious outfits that she just like.
SPEAKER_05:And that's how she started her show. Sharon is Karen. Okay, maybe this wasn't the best idea. I couldn't resist any longer. This cucumber looks so good. It's so good. It's crunchy. Have a bite. I'm serious. Just do it. It's so good.
SPEAKER_01:Just uh.
SPEAKER_06:Oh yes. Unlearning. Real quick. And remembering. Unlearning and remembering. Unlearning and remember. I feel like that just hits me on my soul, you know, of like you think you know, but you don't know until you know. And then it's like you're remembering from the past. Because they say you have 13 generations of knowledge that are stored with you. So mama share, you know, it's just kind of all builds. And I just feel like do the healing and do the work for our future generations is like unlearning maybe the bad oops sorry, the bad habits and things that maybe we'd like to work on and to progress.
SPEAKER_02:Or the things that we have accepted.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah. Right. Over the years. Yeah. Like as normal, which really shouldn't be normal. Yeah.
SPEAKER_06:Do you have any examples? Can you think of that's putting you on the spot? I'm sorry. Actually, I was. But is there some that comes like top of mind?
SPEAKER_02:Yeah, I was doing homework with Charlie, my my 10-year-old. She's in fifth grade and she's learning about Christopher Columbus and all the, you know, the pilgrims and how I know when I was in school, I it I feel like they were almost glorified, like, yay, they found the new earth and blah, blah, blah, blah. But now, knowing what we know, I was trying to explain to her, like, that's not how it happened. So just to be humble enough to know that you will never know everything, but stay thirsty for knowledge. And if it doesn't feel right, question it and do your research. Because not everything that you have learned is proper or the way it should be.
SPEAKER_06:Oh, that was good. That was a good download, sunshine. Yeah! Garden vines. Oh, wow. Yeah, precisely. And I feel like that just really ties into everything that we're talking about, like with the circle of life and how we're all connected, and we are one, and the natives really have a true grasp on all of that. It's really wonderful. Yeah. Just like how they're using sage to clear out energies. I feel like recently, you know, the smudging, and I feel like this is such a native thing is utilizing the herbs. They really knew how to work with the herbs, and there was no books back then. There was no guide, you know, no Google, certainly. And so, really, how did they know all these things? They were things that were passed down and with the connection from the doctrine of signatures, perhaps, and how God had created Earth to give the cues. So I just wanna, it was native, National Native Day this week. And so just really paying homage to our ancestry and unlearning and remembering as we forge our way on this new earth, blazing trails and making in setting trends, baby.
SPEAKER_02:Yes, yes. Testify. Don't just talk about it, be about it. Dance red, dance red.
SPEAKER_06:I feel like we have talked about everything but what's on this paper. Well, we've got two. Okay, okay. Oh, I mean, do we I feel I'm looking at the time sunshine, and it might just have to be some of it shelved for next time.
SPEAKER_02:That's okay.
SPEAKER_06:Because I think we had some good juicy nuggets that we uh shared here today. And it's a wonderful thing. How long? Hey. It's good. Yeah. Because we can't even get into the hemp testing with Justin that we'll have to talk about next week and the great photo shoot. And the goodbye visitor from Katie. Love you, Katie and Steve. Oh, and the epic hot yoga session with ritual hot yoga and the elevated yoga collaboration that's set to happen in October. With Nishka. Oh, I like this.
SPEAKER_07:Yes, yes.
SPEAKER_06:The pizza sauce canning and the confectionery making. Sunshine sweet treats at the West Bend Farmers Market. Come and get you some. I'll be there. And how are wait, we have to talk about Willie Nelson at the concert. Come on.
SPEAKER_02:I love Willie.
SPEAKER_06:We got the opportunity to see him. Dragonfly Princess, pretty Rachie, treated us to the concert tickets for our birthday celebrations at Alpine Valley in iconic. Iconic music venue for Wisconsin. And none other than we roll. So we are running a little bit late because we had to fit it all in. We had to fit it all in. It was my kids were in the Slinger Homecoming parade, walking with the cheer squad and the football team. Hoo doo! Go number 53.
SPEAKER_02:Yes, and then we next it.
SPEAKER_06:They got like epic amounts of cany. They like ran to the ice cream shop after. It was such like a beautiful small town, wonderful, safe experience that we got to share with my brother and my mom and my besties. Yeah. And all the my sister-in-law, like the community members, friends. It was awesome. Thank you, darling. So we had a quick hit that up and then hogtail it down to Alpine Valley, which is about an hour and 15 minutes away from us. And we had a the feel like we got into the spaceship cruiser. We were there no time. Rachel, we had to stop at Quick Trip to get waters before we went in. You could bring them in, and grapes as a snack for the lawn, because that's where our seats are. And we just found an epic spot. As we were walking in, Cheryl Crow was playing. What song was that? I just wanna have fun. I'm gonna soak up the sun. No. You're combined a bit. The fun one. Yeah, the fun. No wanna have fun. So something just wanna have fun. No, it's offering that no bad.
SPEAKER_02:But it was the perfect song for us to come and dip like do our little dance right down the valley. Do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do. It was so cute. Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_06:With the button of hats. Light up cowgirl hats that you provided. Thank you for those. Those were epic, awesome.
SPEAKER_02:Whoa. Bottom, not knowing what I was gonna do with them, but yes.
SPEAKER_06:Now we know. And the bubbles and the the beautiful company. I feel like we made some new friends. Those girls next to us. She's like, I think I'm gonna get a tattoo of bubbles on my arm.
SPEAKER_05:I was like, do it.
SPEAKER_06:She thought we were famous. Because we are in our own world, that is for sure. And so are you, and so are you. That's a good one.
SPEAKER_02:And I love what's the grass seats. I love them because you have space, you can dance, like no restrictions, no people telling you what to do and making people mad. Grass seats where it's at. Next time we'll have to crowd serves out.
SPEAKER_06:Crowd serves. Oh yeah, I mean.
SPEAKER_02:Oh, that was perfect. Because we were sweating.
SPEAKER_06:Dancing up a storm. Yeah. Yes, but I loved those grass seeds laying down for Bob Dylan, just jamming. Oh, you took it all. You took a space cruise in that one. Oh, that was awesome. But you took it all. I was like, I'm gonna stay here. I'm gonna stay here, guys. I wasn't that was vibing hard with Bob Dylan. Oh, that was good. That was good. So it was like the perfect show in the evening to spend together. What a delight.
SPEAKER_02:And then on the way out, when we were like, oh, you know, you're kind of sad when it's over, you don't want to go home. And then we found another party. Yeah, another dance party at the moment.
SPEAKER_06:Kind of in a weird way. Because I could use those methods and we like walked in the background.
SPEAKER_02:Is that is that music?
unknown:Yeah.
SPEAKER_06:All of our wiggles out by the time the parking lot cleared out. What a perfect end to the evening. And it was safe and awesome music. And Willie Nelson is just such a legend. I love his vibe. He has his whole family up on the stage with them and brought them all out. I just want to hug him. Maybe pulling his breath. Just for what that man has seen and experienced and his sacrifice. I mean, I think I know he's living the life, and you know, everyone loves Willie. But it is time away. It is on the road. It is maybe a you think of this glamorous lifestyle, and I'm sure he makes it amazing, but he just also seems really humble.
SPEAKER_02:So humble. Did you see his guitar? I feel like he's had that thing for a minute. Yeah. He doesn't change out his guitar every song.
unknown:No.
SPEAKER_02:And he's in his 90s. 90s! Like what? And he's still just rocking. Just has that urge to share. He is not done sharing his gifts. He's transgenerational. There's young, there's old, there's of course us. But yeah, there's everybody loves Billy. Cowboys, hippies.
SPEAKER_06:Because it's when a time in music means something. And it's cool to like see older pictures of him when he was our age. We're like, oh my gosh. Like that feel like connects it all because it's like, wow, this guy has really made that sacrifice, like commitment. And he's very religious. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02:And he's friendly. And bulbs pop.
SPEAKER_06:Oh, he's known for it. Like everyone's lighting up at the Willie concert.
SPEAKER_02:And Farmate, he has been helping farmers for a really long time. I don't know all the details, but I know FarmAmate is a thing, and he has either created it or has been a huge part of it in keeping America's farmers up and running because where would we be without farmers? We would have no food. We would starve.
SPEAKER_06:We're not starving.
SPEAKER_02:As a matter of fact, we are gonna eat our sunflowers.
SPEAKER_06:In fact. Indeed. I loved that we shared that experience. And thank you for it. I'll do it again. Oh, I'd do it. Oh, we'll I hey I wanted to go see my kids in the parade at the end of the day.
SPEAKER_02:That's where I would never fault you for them, but by the grace of God, we fit it all in. Yes. Perfect timing.
SPEAKER_06:We didn't miss anything. Nope. Divine timing per usual. I surrender. I surrender. I'm working on it. I'm a work in process, but I love you. I'm sorry. Please forgive me. Thank you. Namaste friends. Spread your peace, love, and light. Until next time, keep liking, sharing, commenting, posting, encouraging not just us, but your neighbors, your friends, your family. Everyone, spread the love and light. Use your gifts and share it with the world because we need more of that in this world. And it's such a beautiful, high vibrational thing. And I couldn't be more excited to be co-creating with y'all. Yes.
SPEAKER_02:You have a purpose and he has a plan. Hey, if you guys want to come on here and share your gifts, let us know. Hit us up.
SPEAKER_06:Our in for contact information is all over this place. Everywhere. Yes. And be persistent. Perseverance. It always pays off.
SPEAKER_02:Have you guys.
SPEAKER_06:Okay. Well, that was fun. I have to roll out.
