In Prairie Happy, fear grips Dodge when rumors of a Pawnee uprising spread through town. Matt Dillon discovers the fear is being stirred deliberately by Tewksbury, who sets fires and plants evidence to inflame suspicion. When Chester catches him in the act, the truth comes out—his pride and desire for glory have cost innocent lives. With his daughter’s help, Tewksbury meets a solemn end, and Matt restores order, revealing how easily fear and rumor can turn deadly on the frontier.
In Chester's Mail Order Bride, Chester courts a woman through a matrimonial paper but sends Matt’s photograph instead of his own. When Ann Smithwright arrives—having sent her sister’s picture in return—the truth quickly surfaces. Just as Chester finds the courage to pursue an honest engagement, a Pinkerton agent reveals complications from Ann’s past. Choosing integrity over impulse, Chester releases her to return east, learning that romance built on illusion cannot endure, even in Dodge.
