Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Comedy Podcast, where comedy meets yours slash my commute. I'm your host, Dave Thompson. Welcome to episode 4.5. I'm on my way home from doing a couple shows, and I thought, what better time to speak to the people? To speak to the people than on my way home. If you guys have never listened before, because I'm getting new listeners every episode, apparently. If you guys have never been here before, my name is Dave Thompson. I'm the host of the Carmody Podcast. I drive for work, I drive for comedy, and therefore I don't really have time to do a video podcast. We do an audio-only podcast where you can hear my car. I'm using my AirPods. I'm doing the best I can to put out content that's good and fun and that I like. And because I do that, um, there have been people that have been listening, and I've been very appreciative of that. You guys, I my last episode, y'all, real talk, 84 people listen to my last episode. I was looking at the cities. I'm like, who do I know in Atlanta, Georgia? I don't know nobody in Atlanta, Georgia. And I saw somebody listen to me from Japan. Who's listening to me from Japan? I'll take it. Whatever it may be, I'll take it. That's cool. But the analytics look great. I was happy that even just a few people wanted to hear from me. That really, really warmed my heart. I'm gonna be honest with you guys. That was really cool. So thank you guys so much for being so supportive for the messages after the pods when you listen and all of that. It's really, really appreciated. Everybody that shares the flyers, everybody that shares uh or comments on the pods on Spotify and Apple Podcasts, iHeartRadio, and and online on Buzz Sprout and my RSS feed, all that. Thank you guys so much for being so kind, so generous. Please make sure you're following my Instagram at Dave Thompson Comedy, uh, my uh producing shows uh at i comedy and also the obviously the Karma D podcast, C-A-R-M-E-E-D-Y podcast on all the social media platforms. Uh appreciate it. I focus on Instagram though, so hello. Uh yeah, let's get into it. So I just did a show where it was a D D show. If you guys know Dungeons and Dragons, it's a show that's called goodness. You had a little yawny. A show that's called Dumbasses and Dungeons or Dungeons and Dumb Asses, or one of those two. I don't know what. Um it was super fun. It was super, super fun. They have a really, really unique way of presenting the comedy show that is interactive with the audience, and the audience dresses up and they cosplay, and and most of the performers dress up and they cosplay, and sometimes they play, you know, exaggerated versions of themselves or whatever. But you also could just make up a character and then do the character on the show, and it was really cool to see the innovation that people had and the and the kind of creative freedoms that you have being another person. This isn't just like, oh, I have a stage name. This is like you you're uh as another person. Like I was a wizard, you know, and in real life, I'm not a freaking wizard, you know. Obviously, but um, yeah, so I was I was Dave the Wizard. D Wiz for short, little D Wiz, you know. I like that, that's funny. Um, and uh yeah, it was a super cool show, super fun show. Definitely check it out. Check out their Instagram, uh, the creators of it, uh Frank Martinez created the show. Definitely check him out. Shadi Matar helps write, and John Frazier hosted, so check that out. The local Temecula boys and Mirietta boys, Hemet boys, um, kind of took the reins on that show and and created something really new, really unique, really cool. Um, and I was glad to be a part of it. And then after that, I went to Above the Iron. I'm gonna be posting a clip from Above the Iron. When this comes out, that clip should already be out. Uh, I got a clip. I was very happy. You guys, I struggle most with my openings, to be honest with you. Like I know kind of where I want to go, but it's where do you start? You know, I know what I want the ending to be, but where do you start? And my opening minute, I I achieved a new personal record. My opening minute from when I got on stage and began speaking until 60 seconds after that, my opening minute, I got nine laughs. Nine laughs in my opener. You guys, I've been working so hard to write opening bits, I've been working so hard to perfect the tag after tag after tag. My first joke about my name has five tags on it, and every single one of them got laughs. So I was able to get six or five five laughs from the first joke about my name, and then four laughs from the next joke that has to do with my name. And it's that was such a confidence booster and such a good way to start off because I know that that's the thing where you're like trying to get them on your side and you're trying to get them to to like you and trust you, and uh you know you're performing for them, you want to do a good job. And uh, I was really happy with that. That's that's a that's a personal best for sure, and and I'm sure I if with more time and experience, I could probably do even better than that. Um, but that that was really high. That was really good for me, and I'm really excited that I have the opportunity to do that. Definitely check it out, Above the Iron Comedy Club, if you haven't yet. It's in Menifee, it's a really, really cool spot. It's called Above the Iron Comedy Club. It's above Gray Iron Brewing. Both of the owners of Gray Iron Brewing are amazing people, huge comedy fans. They love comedy, they're very involved. And Frank Martinez is the club manager. He uh books the clubs for the weekends, and then he also has producers come in on Thursdays and do shows. He's a really, really great guy, really awesome. Definitely come check out his stuff. He's been doing comedy for a long time. He's kind of the veteran in the scene out there uh in the IE. Real cool guy. So check it out. Uh, other stuff I want to talk about, comedy related. Uh, we have Kill Tony coming up. Kill Tony. Uh Thursday, May 7th, uh is Kill Tony at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood. So if you are planning on going, I have a special announcement for you. This is a uh comedy exclusive. So Thursday, May 7th at the Intuit Dome is Kill Tony. If you're planning on going, obviously you get in for free because you're a comedian. You're signing up to get thrown in the bucket. There's gonna be hundreds of people there, and we're gonna have a leg up if we get picked. You know why? You know why? Because Wednesday, May 6th, the day before the Kill Tony show, we are hosting, and by we, I mean I am hosting at the Above the Iron Comedy Club, a Kill Tony Mike. Yes, a kill Tony Mike. The day before we go to the Intuit Dome to try and get picked to go do our minute before the whole world and and and Tony Hinchcliffe, we have the opportunity to do our minutes in Medivh. Here's how it's gonna work. First 40 comedians to sign up are gonna get a spot. You're gonna be slotted in order. Every comedian out of the 40 is gonna come up, they're gonna do their minute with the sounds. Do not go over, and then the next person will come up and they will do their minute. We're gonna do this twice. So you're gonna be number 12 or number 33 or whatever, and then you're gonna you're gonna do your minute, and then everyone's gonna go again, and then you're gonna do your minute again. So everybody's gonna get their doing their minutes twice. You're gonna have time you're gonna have time in between because we're going down a list. You're gonna have time in between to switch up some words, maybe. Maybe you went over, or maybe it was not enough, and you need to add something, or you want to tweak something, or you didn't like how you said something, you want to change it. You'll be able to record two separate sets, you'll be able to um kind of take those and work on them for the next day. So we're gonna do that there. It's gonna be great practice for us. It's a really, really cool opportunity. Hopefully, one of us gets up from the IE. I'm hoping that we get some luck and uh that somebody from the IE gets picked, uh, because that's a huge opportunity to go out in front of a huge crowd and and do, you know, you know, comedy and kind of showcase yourself and your funny. It's it's a really, really cool opportunity. I know some people they don't like Kel Tony, they don't like the idea of it, or what he stands for, or his freaking joke about Cuba or Puerto Rico. Who cares? Um no, I'm just kidding. I actually don't know anything about that. I'm probably offending people by saying that. I really don't know anything about it. I think it was something about Puerto Rico's floating garbage, but you know, we do say a lot of stuff we don't mean, right? We do say a lot of jokes. We say jokes. We say jokes. I don't know, I don't know, I don't know his heart. I don't know. I don't wanna act like I know Tony. Because I don't know Tony. The only Tony I know is Tony's pizza. Y'all eat Tony's pizza? First of all, if y'all aren't on the Red Baron frozen pizza game, I don't know what you're doing. Okay? It's not delivery, it's garbage, okay? Don't eat DeGiorno, don't do the regular home brand, off brand. No, you need to get thin crust pepperoni or thin crust supreme or thin crust sausage of pepperoni or thin crust Hawaiian or technically thin crust five cheese because that's freaking baller. Red baron thin crust is delicious, it's delectable. 13 minutes in the oven, 400 degrees. Let's go, baby. Booyah! You know what I'm saying? I'm out here preaching. Amen faraga, amen fataga. You know what I'm saying? Sorry, I'm kind of going off on tangents right now. But yes, if you are going to Kill Tony, definitely check it out. Flyer's coming out soon. I'm gonna post a little video about it. It's probably gonna be posted by the time that this video is or this uh this video, this pod, this audio only pod, because we don't do video around here. Uh by the time this pod's posted, the video should be posted, the flyer should be posted. Sign up should be open. The first 40 comics. I'm sorry, I know that those spots are gonna fill up quickly. If you don't get on the first 40, there's no way for us to be able to get you in. We're only gonna have 90 minutes to do the open mic, and everybody needs to be able to do their minutes twice. And I need to introduce each comedian, and so please don't run the light, and please have fun, and you'll have another opportunity to do your minute a second time. So hopefully there'll be some other people in the community. I don't know as far as the other open mics uh that are gonna be operating that day. I don't know if they're also gonna try and do stuff like that, you know, on Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday, uh leading up to Thursday. I don't know if other people are also doing that. Hopefully, some people can shed some light on that, or that there's posts that are gonna get made about it because I know that most of us out here in the IE are going to Kill Tony, and so definitely um, you know, let's see what happens. Let's check it out, let's get prepped, let's get ready in case we get picked, you know, and we can have a solid minute that we really enjoy, that we really like, that kind of showcases us a little bit, and then uh talk a little bit about uh the interviews, you know, about you know, cracking back with some bits and uh rolling with the punches, doing a little improv, doing a little zing zang zoom zap or whatever they call it. Um, so that's really cool. So, yes, that was a lot. That was a mouthful. I know these episodes are only half episodes, but that's kind of what I got coming up. I'm very excited. Um, something else that's coming up is my wedding anniversary. Aw, wedding anniversary. That's so sweet. My wedding anniversary with my wife is this next Thursday, May 1st, 5115 is when we got married. May 1st, 2015. I got married to the Love My Life, the person who means the most to me out of anyone in the whole world. She's amazing, she's loving, and she doesn't support me whatsoever. Um, she doesn't support my comedy because she wants me to, you know, if I'm gonna do comedy, then I need to do it. I need to make a little make a little scratch once in a while, that I need to, you know, be healing emotionally and not need to pay for therapy and stuff like that. So I'm doing my best to appease her, you know. I'm doing my best, but no, she's amazing. She's literally the best um person that I know. She's the best person there is, and and I love her very much. And so I'm really excited. We're gonna go out. Uh, I think we're gonna go to a theme park. I'm gonna go see a playoff hockey game. Very excited to see some playoff hockey. Haven't seen it in a year. Yeah, isn't that crazy? The playoffs only happen once a year. That's crazy. Alright, I'll see myself out. Alright, no, but for real, thank you guys so much for the support. You guys are amazing. I love each and every one of you. Thank you guys so much for everyone who's supported, who's listened, who's posted. Whether you're from the IE or from LA or from San Diego or apparently Japan or Atlanta or Dallas or any of these places I'm reading. I had one from New Jersey that's that's listening to these episodes. You guys, thank you so much for listening to the episodes. It means the world. Uh, pretty soon I'm gonna have a link posted with the podcast, and hopefully you're following me on socials, uh, about some YouTube stuff coming. I have one vlog up already, me preparing to perform at Levity Live with Maddie Smith. I have that on my YouTube, and I also have a new one coming out that will be vlogging Kill Tony as well as uh some behind the scenes stuff with my shows and uh the opening of my set at the comedy store, which was really, really cool. So, thank you guys so much. I love you guys. You guys are amazing. I hope you guys have a wonderful week, and I'll talk to you guys next week. So, see ya. Goodbye.
