What's up, ladies and gentlemen? Welcome to the comedy podcast, where comedy meets yourslash my commute. I am your host, Dave Thompson. This is episode 6.5. Now, straight up off the top, let's let's talk about it. Okay? I said there was gonna be a guest on, and there's no guest. Okay. I asked three separate people, would you like to be a guest on the pod? And all three are down. They just never have time for it. Okay? I'm sorry. They don't have time. I also asked Ed to be on the podcast, and he said that he wouldn't do it. Said he was gonna bring the podcast down. It's like Ed. You guys know Ed, by the way. Ed! You're not gonna bring the podcast down, buddy. Your comedy does that already, okay? You're a tired police officer, of course! Alright. That's enough of that. You guys, I'm quitting. Hot take. I'm quitting comedy. This is it right here. This is it. I think I'm at a point right now, you guys, where I just wanna just I wanna go out on top. You might think, on top of what? You're not on top of anything. Exactly, that's why I'm quitting. That's why I'm quitting. I'm quitting. And I know that y'all don't even think I'm that good because if you thought I was being serious, and you really thought I was good, you'd call me right now. You'd pause this podcast, you'd call me right now, and you'd be like, Don't you dare quit. Don't you dare. But I know I ain't receiving none of those phone calls because nobody thinks I'm that good. And maybe I'm not. I'm probably not. But no, I'm not gonna quit. I'm having too much fun. Having too much fun. For those of you that have never listened to the pod before, once again, my name is Dave Thompson. I am a comedian out here in sunny Southern California. On my way out to Los Angeles right now, as we speak to work, I do DoorDash and for comedy. I'm gonna be at the comedy store tonight. The Hollywood improv as well. And I'm very excited to do all the things that I have coming up. Got a bunch of tour dates that are about to come out, like six tour dates that are about to come out. Just secured a new venue for comedy, which I'm very excited about. More details coming soon. Uh just got booked at another club. Very excited. Gonna be traveling to Arizona, gonna be traveling to Austin, Texas in October. And I'm just very excited about everything I got coming up. It's really, really cool. And uh yeah, thanks for coming along in the journey with me. Uh, crazy news has been hitting crazy news has been hitting the the world. Uh there was a shooting recently in San Diego. Um it was just the one-year anniversary of the terrorist bombing in Palm Springs. And um I just have thoughts on the terrorist bombing. May I, if if I may be so bold, may I discuss the terrorist bombing from my perspective, okay? Because I was in Palm Springs at the time of the bombing, and no, I had no part of it. Okay, I had no part of it. So this is what happened, right? So I I'm at Ralph's, I'm at Ralph's, and I'm not close enough to hear the explosion, but I'm close enough to hear all of the fire trucks and officers that are coming from the surrounding areas of the city rushing over there. And it was and it was chaos. It was actual it was actual chaos, it was nuts. Um seeing the aftermath of that place, of that street, was was nuts. Let's let's even let's let's take a pause real quick. Let's take a pause. So let me let me start you back at at the beginning of the day. Okay, so this is what's happening that day. So I have a comedy show that night, and me and Pierce, which is another comedian in Palm Springs, me and Pierce are going to a show at a casino right next to the Palm Springs club that we were gonna do the comedy show at. Okay, and and the reason for that was because I was a fan of this girl, still am a fan of this girl, named Britney Brave, very funny comic from uh Miami and New York, and she was playing in the Palm Springs casino, and then the bomb goes off, which is like not a great, you know, first impression of Palm Springs, you know, the bomb going off. Um, so you know, prick, that sucks. Um so yeah, her her experience definitely wasn't great. I ended up bringing her back um to do our club after like months later, and uh yeah, that was crazy. Um, but uh yeah, so I I'm I'm out and I'm and I'm door dashing and I hear about it, and then I start seeing it on social media. I start seeing it everywhere about how there was a terrorist bombing, and that that is like insane that that happened so close to where I was, that that happened in Palm Springs, a city that I'm in all the time because I'm doing comedy in the city, I I'm I'm I'm I'm constantly there, I'm doing work and everything, and so that's just it's crazy. And then we started seeing the news reports about how there is a police presence up in 29 poems, and they said they couldn't comment on that at this time, and the reason for that was because they knew who the person was, they clocked him, they knew who that fool was, and that they're potentially, I guess at the time, was uh a second person that may have helped or been an accomplice or whatever to this guy who who bombed, which we'll talk about him in a second. Um, and and so they they they go up there and they they get to the house and all that stuff, and he's got you know his freaking little manifesto papers or whatever talking about how he he wanted to blow up a fertility clinic because those eggs, those would-be kids, they didn't ask for life, and he's had a hard life, and nobody asked his permission for life, and so he he he made a bomb to try and blow up a fertility clinic that had a bunch of embryos, eggs, whatever. He was trying to scramble the eggs, is what he was trying to do. That that boy was trying to scramble those eggs, okay? And um and he didn't do it. He didn't do it. Uh, I saw a recent news report as there was a post from NBC Palm Springs about the one-year anniversary of this tragedy, and somebody was like, Man, that guy blew himself up, but that's it. Like, that's all he accomplished. All he did was just blow himself up. Like, I know there was property damage to the nearby properties, to the hospital windows, to the building, obviously, of the fertility clinic, but he didn't even kill any of the eggs. Like, this guy's got a bomb and a car, and children that aren't even moving, and this guy couldn't kill a single one of them. I mean, this generation is hopeless. The terrorists can't even kill children that aren't moving with bombs.
SPEAKER_00Isn't that insane?
SPEAKER_01I just you know when I was a kid, I experienced 9-11. Okay, I was eight years old when 9-11 happened. I remember watching it on TV. I remember my mom talking to my dad on the phone about how there was a terrorist attack in New York, and I saw the second plane hit the tower. I watched it happen. Now, back then I didn't know that it actually was a hoax and it was our fault. I didn't know that back then. Um I'm just kidding, you know? Or am I? Am I kidding? Where's the smoke coming from? Is it coming from inside the house? Is it don't worry about it. Listen, that's not the point. The point is this it back in my day, sound like an old person. Back in my day, the terrorists actually did their jobs. You know what I'm saying? Terrorists actually blew up stuff and killed people, they ran planes into the Pentagon. Okay, they were blowing stuff up. Now that you got these new TikTok terrorists that are looking up videos or asking AI how to build a bomb or whatever, and this guy couldn't kill kids that weren't moving. I mean, are you kidding me? God bless him. He needs Jesus Christ. Well, he's already dead, so he's definitely. I don't think he was a follower of Jesus Christ of Nazareth. I don't think he was. Maybe he was. I hope not. I really hope not, because that was that's quite the representation. I mean, churches already have a big problem right now in the news, churches in general, so they don't need that too. That'd be that'd be crazy. But yeah, so I I just remember this day where this bombing happened, and and and it was crazy. But you know what? There was people that wanted to get out. There was people that wanted to get out and they wanted to laugh, and they wanted to take that power away from people like that, who are willing to kill themselves over their ideals, who are willing to hurt and harm other people and other people's property, and people wanted to come out, and people wanted to laugh, and we gave that to them. I'll get to that in a second. Before we did our show at night at the Rock Gallery in Palm Springs, Pierce and I went to that comedy show, that Britney Brave comedy show at the casino. Remember the one I was telling you about? We went there and it was over. Because nobody told us that they had moved the time. So we went there and we walk in and everything's being put away. And I'm like, wow, this sucks. I really wanted to meet her. I'm a fan of hers. Uh, I think she's very funny, and I didn't get to meet her. Then later, obviously, I got to meet her, and and I'm you know, we're cool now, and we DM back and forth once in a while and stuff. But uh at that time I hadn't been able to meet her, so that's just what it is. We walk back from the casino back to the rock gallery, and it's time. It's time for the roast. It's time for the the they're having a roast battle. Okay, this guy just blew himself up, he roasted himself down the street, and we're about to have a roast battle, and there's people, the rooms, the rooms filled up, and the ho the person who is producing the show is not there yet. It will go unnamed who that person is. Comics are sitting in the green room, and they're like, the show needs to get started. The owner's like, the show needs to get started. Somebody needs to go out, somebody needs to break the ice. Okay, we had a terrorist bombing down the street today. Somebody needs to go out there and break the ice. And who's gonna do it? Who's gonna do it? This guy. This guy's gonna do it. I did it. I went out there and I said what I had to say about my thoughts and my opinions, and I made people laugh. I made people laugh, I made people smile, and we will never, ever, ever allow people to take away what the good Lord has given us. And that's the ability and the right to laugh. People try and take that away, they try and instill fear in us. There was some people that that weren't wanting to come out to the show because they were scared about what was gonna happen. Were there gonna be people copying or imposters? Was there gonna be more bombings? And there was not. Okay? No comics bombed that night. It was all good. And so I'm so glad, I'm so grateful for that opportunity that I had that night to bring some joy, to bring some laughter, because at the end of the day, you guys, it's our God given right here in this country to be able to laugh, to be able to voice our opinions. And I'm very excited that I was able to do that. You guys, my name is Dave Thompson. Have a wonderful day.
