What's up, everybody, ladies and gentlemen? Welcome to the comedy podcast, where comedy meets your slash my commute. I am your host, Dave Thompson. Yell at me and tell me you hate me. Because why have you not released a podcast for 10 days? Tell me that. Yell at me, scream at me, throw Fantagrape soda cans at my head. Please. Please let them be full of Fantagrape because I love it. You know why? Because I used to drink Dynamitap as a kid. Okay? I used to drink that perp drank as a kid. That's true. What's up, everyone? Welcome to Carmody. Uh let me tell you what happened. Okay, so I've I recorded episode 7.5 with a wonderful special guest named Johnny Gold. And I had to scrap the podcast because tell you why I had to scrap it. Because Johnny. An avid listener. Thank you, Johnny. I love you, Johnny. An avid listener of this podcast, as as well as you guys, thank you so much. Um, he just absolutely went bonkers on the scene and started name-dropping a bunch of people. And I'm like, Johnny, we can't put this out. We cannot put this out. It was an hour long, it was absolutely wild, it was nuts. Um, but we can't we can't do it, unfortunately. It's just not it's just not gonna happen. So that's the that's the that's the new IE Epstein files, the IE files. Um is the Carmedy podcast featuring Johnny Gold. That's what that is. So it's not it's not coming out, it's not gonna see the light of day. But I have another episode coming out with Johnny. That'll be the next episode. We're gonna do a 30-minute episode. I'm gonna interview Johnny, we're gonna talk about a lot of cool stuff about the scene. I want to get into the nitty-gritty of when Johnny started, because Johnny started a long time ago. He's got a lot of great stories about being at the comedy store, about his parents, being actors, a lot of great stories in comedy. So I want to pick into more of that instead of just the gripes he has with people around the scene. Because you know what? We can glean some wisdom from some really funny people. I just saw Johnny do a set tonight, and he just said that we should turn Whole Foods. Sorry to repeat your bit, that we should turn a Whole Foods into a place where people can just have sex. And I was like, wow, that's that's just so insightful. You know, he's like, let's let's remove the apples and then people can just have you know oral sex. And I'm like, wow, that's Johnny Golden Delicious, everybody. That's Johnny Golden Delicious. Sorry. That's enough about you, Johnny. I know you're listening. That's enough about you. Alright, for the rest of y'all, what is up? Hope you're having a wonderful week. I miss you guys. Sorry I have not posted an episode. Uh, on my way to another mic right now in the middle of the night. Gonna go do a mic in San Bernardino. I don't recommend it. I'm probably gonna die before this gets uploaded. Probably gonna get murdered. Uh, you know how it is. But we do what we gotta do for stage time, you know what I'm saying? We gotta do what we gotta do. Gotta go into this the heart of human trafficking to get an extra five minutes. You know, that's wild. Uh, a couple things I would love to talk about today. Uh, just a couple things in the news. Um uh the the apartments on University Avenue burnt down today in Riverside. Wow, that's insane. I just want to know what it was from, you know? Uh and the reason is because I had this scare one time where I thought I was gonna set my whole apartment building on fire. Because I had a stove fire when I was making mac and cheese. You guys ever let the mac and cheese boil over? You ever let it boil over? I let it I let it boil over, right? And I I pretty much just didn't even have like the right fire on, like it I wasn't doing it like at the right temperature, and I could have swore that I was gonna start a fire because I wasn't paying attention to it. And uh I can only imagine like if you burnt down your entire building just because like you weren't paying attention to your mac and cheese, because you were scrolling TikTok or something, like that would be insane. That would be insane. Ah man, what else is going on? Uh I'm super stoked. I got a really, really cool lineup of shows coming up here. Let me plug some some shows. I'm gonna try and get this episode uploaded tonight. So um tomorrow I'm gonna be in Apple Valley with some amazing comics up there. Uh, next week, Marco does a game show. It's gonna be at an awesome spot in Corona. Uh, once you get your ticket, you can get the address. It's at someone's house in their front yard. It's gonna be actually insane. Some of the best people we got here in the scene are hooking it up, allowing us to perform in their front yard. Also, too, hala hala hala for a dollar. Just got a new venue. Super excited! Got a new venue in Yukaipa, super stoked. Uh, this weekend I'm gonna be releasing all. I'm so excited, I'm releasing all of the flyers for the heat wave comedy tour that we have confirmed right now. So we have Joshua Tree, we have Palm Desert, we have Riverside, we have Redlands, we have Menaphy, we have UKIPA, we have Temecula. It's gonna be so fun. Please come out and see the Heat Wave comedy tour. Come see the new jokes, the new set that I've been cooking up, and all the new jokes and everything that everybody that's on the shows is cooking up. It's gonna be so much fun, you guys. It really is. It's me, all my friends. Me, Pierce Mauro, Melissa Nami, uh, Mike James, Mike Baker, we're the solid five, the heat wave, and then we're bringing friends along for each show. And I'm really excited about that because it's really a cool time where all of these comics that are maybe one year in or less, maybe they've never even been on a show before. I love to give them a platform to be able to have a few minutes in front of an audience. Oh yeah, yawning today. Um, because somebody did that for me. Shout out Zach Miller back in the day when I first began, just a couple months in. I think I wasn't even three months in yet, or maybe about three months. He he let me get on one of his shows up at the Huntington Beach spot they used to have the third floor. Got on one of his shows there, so was really appreciative of that. That was really, really cool. So uh I just want to be able to do that for other people, help boost the confidence a little bit, help them to kind of gain their footing and be a part of that journey. I love that, and uh so I'm really excited about that. So please come out and check out the heat wave comedy tour. Please follow me at heatwave comedy tour. You can see where all those dates are, all the flyers will be posted there, and obviously on my stories at Dave Thompson Comedy. Please make sure you're following my Instagram um at Carmedy Podcast so you can see when these drop. If you don't follow it uh already on Spotify or Apple Podcasts, or wherever you listen to your podcast, iHeartRadio, or on my RSS feed, however, you do it. Um, I super appreciate you guys. You guys are amazing. I love seeing that you guys are actually listening and that you're listening all the way through the episode. It really means a lot. You guys have no idea how much that means to me. Always inspires me to keep doing them, and I apologize that I hadn't put out two episodes, I had recorded one. Excuse me, I am yawning so much. Then I had to obviously record something else. So this is what it is. I know you guys forgive me, I know you guys love me because I love you. Um, yeah, let's talk a little bit more about comedy stuff going on. So, besides the heat wave comedy tour coming up, I'm really excited uh about doing some traveling. Uh, there's some opportunities that I've had in some other states to go out and do comedy. Uh, New York is gonna be coming up. More details to be shared soon. There's gonna be a little New York thing I'm gonna do, as well as in Texas, and I and I love that because my mom is in Texas, and my mom's never heard me do comedy even once, which I think is wild. So, all the craziness with my dad and their divorce beginning and everything started before I got into comedy. Yeah. And then I got into comedy, and then she moved to Texas, like right when I got into it. So she's never seen me once on stage do do anything. She knows of some of my bits, she's seen you know, my few stand-up clips that I have posted. She's seen them, she's thought thought they were funny. So it's just one of those things that I'm just gonna have to just bite the bullet and just do it, and she'll just have to see me in person. And if she likes it, she likes it, and if she doesn't, she doesn't, and uh, you know, we'll just freaking see what happens. Um, but yeah, performing in front of family is interesting. I did a mic in Corona, and my cousin was there, and I didn't expect him to be there, and even that was kind of weird for me. Like, even my cousin being there was kind of strange. So I don't know how that's gonna be with my mom there. Am I gonna be nervous? Am I gonna just like be scared of like saying things in front of like I don't know how my body is gonna physically react in that moment when I'm walking on stage and I can see her, or maybe I'll just ask her to sit in the back so I can try and forget she's there, but she's probably gonna be like, oh my gosh. Um I'm gonna make my mom pee herself. She's gonna laugh. Uh that's that's at least my mentality going in, but we'll see. We'll see what happens. Uh, and then some other stuff too. I've been working on these bits, right? So let's talk, let's talk, let's get the nitty-gritty of comedy, right? I've been working on bits because I I struggle with uh opening the set. Struggle with opening. I've heard, you know, do self-deprecation up top, get people to like know you, maybe make light of something that's going on, or or maybe make light of something going on in the room. You know, the ceilings are so tall, or there's a funky light. Somebody's wearing a weird hat, hat or something. Like, be really relatable and present to what is going on in the room right then. So I'm trying to do that, but I'm also just trying to have openings, right? And so I've been working on this opening like about my name because my name is super white, so this is kind of like where I'm at right now, and I'll keep you guys updated on like how it's going. But like where I'm at right now is you know, my name is Dave Thompson, which is a super Caucasian white guy name. Like, my name is for a CEO, but I have a face for EBT. So that's like one of the opening lines I have. I said it kind of slow, whatever. Whatever, don't judge me. I'm not gonna bomb on my own pod. I'm not gonna bomb here. It's not the bomb pod, it's comedy. Uh so I love that part. Um, I like the wordplay of the CEO and EBT because originally when I wrote it, it was I have a I have a name for corporate, but a face for unemployment. Or I said body for unemployment. Uh uh name for corporate body for unemployment. But then I changed that to name for a CEO and then face for EBT. So I don't know. It's been working so far. I kind of like it. And then I kind of have been going into stuff about Yukaipa, because I'm getting ready, obviously, my new Yukaipa show. Getting ready to do some stuff in Yukaipa. So I wanted to have some things kind of locked and loaded for the city. So I I feel like I have some stuff kind of cooked up that I like for the city. Um, other other bits I've been working on. So I've been continuing on the apple bit. If you guys haven't heard about it, it's just that the apples, you know, every name of every apple, it just is really trying to like make you think about sex, uh, or in in some way. And so there was stuff that I kind of had added to it, and I finally added Apple Pay to the end, and like wherever I'm at, I'll I'll like ask the venue on stage, I'll be like, Do you guys take Apple Pay? And 90% of the time they say yeah, and then I'll be like, ladies, let me let me address you real quick. 96% of cities or 96% of businesses in America take Apple Pay. Please be like 96% of businesses and let us tap that apple. And it's got a decent response so far. It's just a silly little joke, it's a silly little joke. I'm probably gonna scrap the whole thing. Why does it feel like I'm bombing? Is it is it because I keep yawning? I don't know what that is. I have a problem. Whenever I'm doing a podcast, I start yawning for some reason. I don't know. I've I don't ever do that on stage. I don't understand. Let me get some air real quick. I just feel like I can't let there be silence because then you guys aren't gonna listen to the episode. I don't know. I don't know what that is. Kind of out of funk tonight. I don't know what it is. It's kind of been a little bit of a funk. It's all good. I love you guys though. Uh yeah, so working out new bits, working out a whole new 25 minutes for the Heat Wave Comedy Tour, separate from the last one that I did. So if you guys came out to our our last show um that we had last summer, the 25 that I'm gonna do is gonna be brand new compared to that. Very, very little crossover, maybe just a little bit of DoorDash crossover. But besides that, uh pretty much all new material, so I'm very excited about doing that. And I'm really excited about going out with my friends and us doing these shows together and giving ourselves stage time and giving stage time for for newer comics and some vets. We're gonna have some of our veterans to the scene, some of our friends come out and also do some of the shows with us. So I'm really excited. It's just a lot of cool stuff coming up. Very excited about thank you guys so much for being patient with me with the pod. Uh, the next episode, I'm gonna have Johnny Gold on here. I'm gonna give him a call. We're gonna do a little 30-minute ep. Gonna talk about his journey in being a legend in the IE, and also about kind of our scene in general and how we can make it better. And I would love to ask him some comedy advice about beginning a set, ending a set, and we're gonna hear it all from him on the next episode. But you guys, thank you so much. This has been episode 7.5. My name is Dave Thompson. Thank you so much for listening. Please follow all uh the social media accounts at Carmedy Podcast, at IE Comedy, if you want to keep up with stuff out here in SoCal, and obviously at Dave Thompson Comedy at Carmody Podcast. Thank you guys so much. Have a wonderful day. Bye bye.
