The Called Activist
This is a podcast of the Festival Center where we will interview activists, organizers, advocates, and agents of change and hear why they do what they do. One of the best ways we find encouragement and hope is to hear how people have been transformed, to hear what sparked the passion that fuels them to create change.

This month on the podcast, we celebrate the ways art, story, and community shape our collective life together. In honor of Pride Month, Festival Center Executive Director Bill Mefford shares reflections on his own journey toward becoming an ally and the relationships that deepened his commitment to LGBTQ+ inclusion and justice. We also sit down with artist and curator AnaYelsi Velasco Sanchez to discuss her new exhibition, Under the Same Sun, and the launch of the Festival Center's new rotating arts curation program. Through vibrant color and deeply human storytelling, AnaYelsi's work explores culture, identity, liberation, and our responsibility to one another, inviting us to imagine the kind of world we are building together and the communities we hope to become.
