Lazy or Misdirected Pt.2: Effort That Doesn't work
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
You’re putting in the effort—but the results still aren’t showing up.
In Part 2, we go deeper into why hard work alone doesn’t always lead to growth.
In this reflective Soul Spa moment on the EmpowerHER Business Podcast, Linette continues the conversation around feeling “lazy” when results don’t match your effort. For many Black women entrepreneurs in their first five years, the instinct is to push harder. But sometimes the real issue isn’t effort—it’s direction, alignment, and where your energy is being invested.
This deeper pause invites you to examine what you’re doing, why you’re doing it, and whether your actions actually support the outcomes you’re expecting. When effort is misdirected, exhaustion grows while progress stalls. This moment helps you reconnect with intentional, aligned movement instead of constant pushing.
In this Lazy or Misdirected Part 2 episode, you’ll experience:
- A deeper look at effort that doesn’t translate into results
- Insight into misdirected energy in business growth
- A grounding pause to reassess your current focus
- Permission to shift direction without self-judgment
- Encouragement to choose aligned, sustainable action
This episode is part of The Soul Spa — short solo pauses you can return to whenever you need a moment of grounding.

Welcome back to the Empower Her Business Podcast Soul Spa series, where our intention is to bring you food for your soul. This is your space to pause, to breathe, and to come back to yourself. Here we navigate through the nuances and internal challenges of building a great business, bringing insight, clarity, and tapping into our inner guidance. In the last episode, we started with the question: Are you lazy or could you be misdirected? And today we're going one layer deeper because once you realize it may not be laziness, the next question becomes, are you busy or are you actually building something that grows? This one can be hard to look at because I know from experience that being busy feels good, it gives you a sense of movement, a sense of progress. You can say I worked on my business today. But when we slow it down, not all work creates growth. That needs repeating. Some work organizes, and other work prepares, but only certain work actually generates revenue. And this is where a lot of businesses get stuck because you can fill your entire day with things that feel productive, posting content, updating your website, fixing your logo, learning how to do something new, going through your emails, and none of these things are wrong, but they don't all carry the same weight. And if most of your time is going to these activities, guess what? Your business can stay in motion without ever really moving forward. So instead of asking, did I work today? I want you to begin asking yourself something different. Ask, did I do anything today that could lead to revenue? Doesn't have to be immediately, it can be eventually lead to revenue. Did I have a conversation? Did I make an offer? Did I follow up? Did I position myself to be seen in a way that connects to my work? Because growth doesn't come from activity, it comes from aligned activity. In the next episode, we're going to talk about something deeper because even when you know what you should be doing, there can still be resistance, avoidance, and pullback. And that's not about strategy, that's about what's happening within you. So for today, just notice where are you busy but not building? And where could you gently shift your time towards something that actually supports growth? And remember, we're not going for judgment here, we're going for the power of awareness. And if you need help sorting through what actually leads to revenue, the CEO guide I created would walk you through that. You'll find it in the show notes. Let's take a breath here. If today's experience resonated, I'm glad you're here. I invite you to trust what's stirring inside you. We'll continue this conversation in the next episode. Until then, take care of yourself, and I'll talk to you soon on the next episode of the Soul Spa. Be well, I'm going to be able to do that.
