You’re doing the work—but waiting until everything is perfect to move forward.
Perfectionism may be the quiet reason your results feel delayed.

In this reflective Soul Spa moment on the EmpowerHER Business Podcast, Linette explores how perfectionism can disguise itself as productivity. For many Black women entrepreneurs in their first five years, the desire to get it “just right” can slow momentum, delay visibility, and quietly stall growth. The effort is there—but the results take longer because nothing feels ready enough to release.

This reflective pause invites you to notice where perfectionism may be holding your progress hostage. Sometimes the issue isn’t laziness or lack of discipline—it’s over-refining, overthinking, and over-preparing. This moment helps you soften the pressure and return to aligned, forward movement.

In this Lazy or Misdirected Part 2 episode, you’ll experience:

  • A reframe of perfectionism as delayed momentum
  • Insight into how over-preparing slows business growth
  • A grounding check-in around fear of getting it wrong
  • Permission to move forward before everything feels perfect
  • Encouragement to prioritize progress over perfection

This episode is part of The Soul Spa — short solo pauses you can return to whenever you need a moment of grounding.

Hey and welcome back to the Empower Her Business Podcast Soul Spot series, where our intention is to bring you food for your soul. This is your space to pause, to breathe, to come back to yourself. Here we navigate through the nuances and internal challenges of building a great business, bringing insight, clarity, and tapping into our inner guidance. So we've been talking about something that shows up for so many women in business. Working but not seeing growth. We talked about direction, we talked about being busy versus building, and today we're going deeper because here's the truth. A lot of us may already know what we should be doing. So the real question becomes if we know what to do, why aren't we doing it? This is the part that doesn't always get talked about because from the outside it can look like inconsistency, procrastination, or a lack of discipline. But when we slow it down, it usually is something else. It's a hesitation, even avoidance, something like a quiet pull to do something easier instead. And most of the time, the things that actually grow your business require a level of visibility, a level of being seen, being heard, of putting yourself in your work in front of people, and that doesn't always feel safe. Even if you don't consciously think of it that way. So instead, your mind being the powerful thing it is gently redirects you into things that feel productive but don't quite require the same level of exposure. So you might say, I need to tweak this first, I need to get this ready, I need to feel more prepared. And again, none of this is wrong, but it becomes a pattern. It can quietly keep you from the very things that would actually move your business forward. I saw this when I was taking a course on podcasting. The number one issue in the class was waiting for perfection. Either the heavy task of editing or second guessing or having all the right equipment or you name it, but over 95% of the attendees were busy doing everything but actually releasing their podcast. At one point, our instructor said, You're being selfish because there's someone out there who needs to hear what you have to say. They're waiting on you, and you're over here stalling for perfection. They don't need you perfect, they just need you. And that has stayed with me through everything I do. So instead of asking, what's wrong with me that keeps me from not doing the things that I know will move me forward, I want you to begin asking, what about this feel uncomfortable? What about this feels exposed? And what about this feels uncertain? Because when you understand that, you can move with yourself instead of working against yourself. And in our last episode, we're gonna talk about how to shift this without forcing yourself, without overwhelming yourself, but in a way that actually supports you as the CEO of your business. So I'll leave you with this. You're not avoiding your business. You may just be avoiding how something feels, and that's something we can work with. If this is hitting you, the CEO guide I created will help you see where this is showing up and what to do next. You can find it in the show notes. Let's take a breath here. If today's experience resonated, I'm glad you're here. I invite you to trust what's stirring inside you. We'll continue this conversation in the next episode. Until then, take care of yourself. And I'll talk to you soon on the next episode of The Soul Spa. Be well.
