The goals you set in January were based on who you were and what you knew then. But growth changes perspective—and sometimes the best thing you can do is give yourself permission to change the plan.

In this episode of The Soul Spa Series: Summer Permission Slips (Part 2), we're talking about why pivoting isn't failure. As you grow through entrepreneurship, your business, experiences, and clients teach you new lessons. Whether you've discovered a new opportunity, refined your services, shifted your priorities, or realized your original goals no longer align, you're allowed to recalibrate without guilt.

In this episode, you'll learn:

  • Why changing your business goals is a sign of growth—not failure.
  • How new opportunities can reshape your original vision.
  • When it's time to pivot, refine, or let go of plans that no longer fit.
  • How to trust yourself as you evolve as an entrepreneur.
  • Why giving yourself permission to change creates space for sustainable success.

👉 This episode is part of The Soul Spa—short solo pauses you can return to whenever you need a moment of grounding.

Hey beautiful, welcome back to the Empower Her Business Podcast Soul Spa series, where our intention is to bring you food for your soul. This is your space to pause, to breathe, and to come back to yourself. Here we navigate through the nuances and internal challenges of building a great business, bringing inside clarity, and tapping into our inner guidance. I'm your host, Lynette Cottrell, founder of Empower Her Bookkeeping and Advisory, where I guide women founders through compassionate accounting, financial education, and financial leadership. Women move from overwhelm and avoidance to confidence in the capacity to build business and wealth that are designed to last. Today your second summer permission slip is this. You have permission to change the plan. Yes. Now at the end of last year, or maybe during the first couple of days of January, you probably sat down and set some goals for your business. You thought about what you wanted to accomplish, what you wanted to create, and how much you wanted to earn in where you hope your business will be by the end of this year. You set those goals with every intention of achieving them. And now we're a little past halfway through the year, and I think this is a good time to remember something very important. Those January goals were your very best intentions. You created those goals based on what you knew then, but you've lived, worked, learned, and grown since January because entrepreneurship is truly a journey. And as you move through that journey, your business teaches you things. Your clients teach you things. Your experiences teach you things. And sometimes you discover things about yourself that you couldn't have known when you first created that plan. Maybe an unexpected opportunity became available. An event, a partnership, a speaking engagement, or a new connection that wasn't even on the radar at the beginning of the year. Maybe you recognized a new way to use your skills and experience. You saw another avenue for generating revenue, and you decided to step into that lane. It could be that you found a way to fine-tune your services, improve your processes, or simply serve your clients differently. It could be that you realize that something you plan to offer doesn't feel aligned anymore. Maybe the strategy you chose requires more energy than you want to give it or you have available to give to it. Or maybe you simply don't want what you thought you wanted back in January. And hey, that is okay. There are so many experiences that can cause us to pivot, tweak, or recalibrate the goals we originally created for our businesses. And that doesn't mean we failed. It means we learned something. It means we gained more knowledge and experience. It means we were paying attention to our business and to ourselves. And that is a wonderful thing. So today I want to give you permission to change your mind about something you thought you wanted. You have permission to adjust the goal without feeling as if you failed. You have permission to slow down the timeline if it no longer feels aligned. You have permission to release and offer a commitment or strategy that's been draining you. You have permission to choose a direction that better fits who you are now. You also have permission to stop forcing something simply because you announced it, invested in it, or told other people that you were going to do it. And perhaps most importantly, you have permission to trust what you have learned about yourself in your business. Sometimes we can continue pursuing a goal because we don't want to admit that we've changed. We don't want anyone to think we gave up, and we certainly don't want to believe that changing direction means we weren't committed enough. But changing your mind after gaining new information isn't failure. It's wisdom. And honoring that wisdom is a form of self-trust. So let's take a breath here. Look at the plan you created at the beginning of the year and ask yourself, does this plan still fit the woman I am today? And does this plan still fit the business I have today? And if it doesn't, you are allowed to change it. That is your permission slip. If today's experience resonated, I'm glad you're here. I invite you to trust what is stirring inside you. We will continue this walk together. Until then, take care of yourself, and I'll talk to you soon on the next episode of The Soul Spa. Be well.
