Know Surrender
A Podcast discussion on events and talks given at Bootle Protestant Free Church . These are not sermons but thoughts on a sermon. You can find the sermon on our youtube site https://www.youtube.com/@bpfc
Why "know Surrender" it is taken from a pamphlet I was given some years back and is a play on words. "No Surrender" is of course a well know phrase but to "know Surrender" that is to surrender your self to the Lord Jesus, the Christ is more than a well known phrase. It is the key to eternal life.
Know Surrender
The Siege of Londonderry and the Spirit of No Surrender
The booklet being explored details the Siege of Londonderry, a pivotal event in 1688-1689 Northern Irish history, highlighting the fortified city's strategic importance and its Protestant inhabitants' defiant stand against James II's forces. It traces the city's origins, the buildup to the siege, including the pivotal moment when thirteen apprentices famously closed the city gates, and the subsequent military actions. The text particularly focuses on Governor Robert Lundy's controversial role and subsequent betrayal, contrasting his actions with the steadfastness of the city's defenders who famously adopted the cry of "No Surrender!" Finally, it describes the city's eventual relief by Williamite ships breaking through a boom, interspersed with theological reflections on loyalty and faith, alongside the lyrics of "Derry's Walls," a commemorative song.
