“The enemy’s goal is to make you question the very word God gave you… so you’ll make a decision you have to repent for later.”

Many Christian's love God—but still find themselves questioning what He said.

In this powerful episode of Unrelated Sisters: Truth & Grace Conversation, we break down one of the enemy’s oldest and most effective strategies found in Genesis 3: “Did God really say?”

Before Eve ever took a bite, she entertained a question—and that question led to confusion, distortion, and ultimately disobedience.

How often do we do the same?

This episode explores:

  •  The true meaning behind the enemy’s question in Genesis
  •  How spiritual doubt shows up in everyday life
  •  The difference between God’s voice and the enemy’s voice
  •  How to stand firm on what God already spoke

If you’ve ever second-guessed your calling, your identity, or God’s promises… this conversation will anchor you back in truth.

✨ You don’t need a new word—you need to stand on the last one God gave you.

 Chapter 2: God speaks clearly

God says:

  •  “You are called”
  •  “You are forgiven”
  •  “You are enough”
  •  “Wait on me”

Chapter 3: The enemy questions what was spoken

Then life happens…

And suddenly:

  •  “Maybe I’m not”
  •  “Maybe I missed it”
  •  “Maybe that wasn’t God”

👉 The enemy doesn’t need to create a new narrative
👉 He just needs you to question the original one

“Don’t let a question in your Chapter 3 rewrite what God already settled in your Chapter 2.”

 PRAYER

Father God,

We come to You right now in humility and honesty.

Because if we’re real… we’ve questioned You.

We’ve doubted what You said.
We’ve entertained thoughts that didn’t come from You.
We’ve allowed confusion where You already gave clarity.

But today, God…

We come back to truth.

Remind us of what You spoke.
 Anchor us in Your Word.
Give us discernment to recognize Your voice over every other voice.

Silence the enemy’s lies.
 Strengthen our spirit.
And help us stand firm on what You’ve already said.

We trust You again.

In Jesus’ name,

Amen.

Dear Lord, thank you for this day and thank you for your mercy and your blessings and your grace that you give each and every one of us, Lord Jesus. And today, as me and Deborah come to share the story or share the words that you have given us over the next 20 or 30 minutes, Lord Jesus, please let it be your words. Please let it be your voice that everyone hears. Please let your presence be known and felt during this during this episode that we are doing today. We have had a listener reach out, and her brother Chad was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer yesterday. He has a few spots. So any listener that is listening, please pray for him today and for his family going forward, that his wife and his family find peace and that the story that they have to tell maybe we can share it one day on this episode, Lord Jesus, on Unrelated Sisters. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.

SPEAKER_02

Amen. Hey sisters, welcome back to Unrelated Sisters Truth and Grace Conversation. So this is a space where we show it real, where we sit in truth, and where we cover everything in grace. And today we're talking about something that hit me deep. Not just surface level, not just that was good. I mean something that makes you stop and say, wait a minute, is this me? Is this how is this because I heard something recently that said the enemy's goal is to make you question the very word God gave you so you'll make a decision you have to repent for later. Wow, that's good.

SPEAKER_00

You know, and that's I think I you know, I hadn't quit thinking about that because I and we've talked about this recently, and you know, I feel like I'm in a phase or in a season of okay, God, is that you? You know, okay, God, is that you? You know, and I've been working on finding my authentic self. But because I I have all these great things that can I can do, but they're not I do them sometimes and it's not it wasn't mine to do, right? And so that's what I've been working on. And when this came out, the enemy's goal is to make you question the very word God gave you. It made me it it made me rethink the whole way I've been looking at is that God? You know, um, because if we're honest, we love him, we love God, we worship, we pray with him, we pray with him or pray to him every day, but somewhere in between we start questioning things. You know, did God really say that? Was that really him? Did I hear him wrong? You know, you think you get this pathetic word, you know, and I see people all the time on the internet, on on TikTok, talking about I have a prophetic word for you today. And if you if you scrolled up on it, then you're supposed to hear this, you know. And sometimes I sit and listen and it gives me cold chills, and I'm like, huh, that was good, right? But I don't know that that was for me. It doesn't always fit where I feel like I'm at, but was it for me? Like it makes me question those kind of things, and you know, this whole segment or this whole episode is based off of Genesis, right? About Adam and Eve and the apple and the and the snake, and um, you know, we know we know the story, right? She came to the she came to the garden to the tree, forbidden tree, and the snake, you know, said, Hey, you know, you can have this apple, right? Take a bite of it. And then she talked, you know, she pulled Adam over there and she talked him into it. So in Genesis 3, the serpent approaches Eve and says, Did God really say? Not he didn't say God is wrong, and he didn't say disobey him, go out and do what you know is wrong, right? He didn't say, Hey, getting high is okay. You know, he didn't say, he just questioned. And how many times in life do we do that? Oh yeah, how many times do we question not just God, but our husbands and the decisions that they've made for our families, um, our preachers, our our bosses, you know, we question things all the time.

SPEAKER_02

And you know, the enemy he don't start with destruction. No, he starts out with doubt, making you second guess, making you uh, you know, think, was that really what I heard? Is that really because a lot of times, um, for me, like the Lord will I get, you know, I feel like he spoke something to me, and then just because he speaks it right then, don't mean it's gonna happen right then. Right. And so we get all messed up when it don't happen right then. Was it really God? Yeah, was my flesh? Or because doubt opens the door, and once doubt is in, confusion follows, and confusion leads to compromise, and compromise leads to consequences.

SPEAKER_00

And the thing is, is just because God told you it was going to happen, just because God told you this is what you're supposed to be doing. You know, and I've struggled with this with the with the podcast, right? So that first, you know, the first year we had all these follow- you know, we were building all these followers and we were we were having, you know, we were getting a hundred downloads a week, and we were doing this, and we were doing that, and then life happened in December, and you know, for us, and and we didn't post anything. And then January was rough, you know, and and we posted a little bit, but it was still rough, and we're not getting 100 downloads as a week now, right? We're we've we've you know we've lacked off and you know, you know, and I started and I went through that this, you know, in January, you were you were so busy and life just seemed to be getting in the way, and and uh I felt like um like I knew on Wednesday when I was off I needed to to sit down and record, right? And then I would rush home on Friday afternoon, right, and record something. And I felt, I mean, it's not that it wasn't God's word, right? It was he had given it to me, but I felt like in January I lost something in in in the podcast, and um, even though people kept saying, Oh, that was so good, and but to me, I felt yeah, like I had to be compromised, I guess. You know, and um it felt just I felt confused in doubt. And when I read this, I was like, that's what I was doing. I had left the whispers of of an enemy, you know, and even when you look at it, right? The enemy, even in the in the in the garden, it was a snake. Yeah, well, snakes belong in the garden, right? Like that that's not unusual. So usually the enemy is sitting there with you and you're not afraid of it. You're not shocked by him. You're not you know, it's not a picture of horns and fire and and and all the you know, the descriptive pictures and paintings that we've seen of the devil. You know, Eve wasn't afraid of him, and most of the time we aren't either, you know. Um, but why is that? And it's because he didn't look out of place, you know, that friend that keeps negativity in your life, or that friend who betrays you that betrays you or keeps chaos in keeps their chaos in your life. It's not makes it doesn't make them a bad person. It just makes the chaos from the enemy. Right?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

You know, um, I like that you said the enemy looks like he belonged in the garden. Uh like you were saying a lot of times, uh the enemy does I mean, sometimes we don't even know the enemy's same beside us. It could be somebody you know what I mean? And we think for me, Kevin gets on me all the time because he's like, Oh, you just you just let every anybody in, you just you know what I mean? Like you just and you you gotta do better, like uh have better discernment. And so sometimes the enemy could be somebody really close to you, you know, you don't even know. Um, Eve, she wasn't afraid, she didn't run. Why? Because it didn't look at a place, and that's how the enemy still operates today. He doesn't always come as something obvious, sometimes he just shows up as a logical thought, a reasonable fear, a voice that sounds like your own. The Bible says that Satan disguises himself as an angel of light in 2 Corinthians 11 14. So if you're waiting for something dark and obvious, you might miss that.

SPEAKER_00

Right, yeah, and you know, I don't know, like well, I'm not telling you, and this is by any means not telling you to not try. Yeah, right? Like sometimes you have sometimes you have to try because your light can change the darkness in them. But there has to be a point, like you said, discernment at when you have to say, okay, you're not good for my peace.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I'm saying this boundary.

SPEAKER_00

You're not good for my joy, and that's boundaries, yeah. You know, and for me and you boundaries are hard.

SPEAKER_02

I know we need to we need to talk about that again.

SPEAKER_00

So, uh, you know, the enemy wants to distort things. God said, Do not eat from the tree. Eve said, We must not eat or touch it. It's not a complete lie, right? But it's not fully accurate either. And when when you compromise a little bit, compromise those words. And words are strong, right? The strongest muscle in your body is your tongue, right? Here you get into danger because you don't need to completely forget God's word, you just slightly misremember. Yeah, right, and that can that causes distortion and creates distance between you and and God's word, and between you and God. And the distance creates vulnerability, it allows the enemy to slither in, you know, and allows him to put that down.

SPEAKER_02

Like distance, sorry, I know I'm okay. Like distance, um, mean isolation. You know how some people can they start isolating. What do you do when you're isolating? What do you most of the time you're in a it causes depression or it causes, you know, you go into yeah, um get in the bed, put the cover over your head, turn the lights out, you know what I mean? And that's what it's a you know, and it's not just happened just right then, you know what I mean? It's something that happens over time, and it's and you're more vulnerable when you're like that.

SPEAKER_00

Yes, you are because you think God has left you. You think that you're by all along you forget all the things that you know, and it just takes one misdirection. One misdirection. Yeah. You know, we talk about going left a lot, or I talk about going left a lot, and there's that misdirection, right? God is not confusion, for sure. So let's break down chapters two. God speaks clearly, and chapter three, the enemy questions what is spoken. You know, and if you're honest, this happens in our lives every day. It happens all the time. God says you're called, and God says, wait on me. But then laugh happens, yeah. And when laugh happens, we suddenly say, uh, maybe that's not it. Maybe I'm not called, maybe I'm not called, you know, maybe that wasn't God.

SPEAKER_02

Maybe I missed it.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, yeah, you know, but when he says you are forgiven, when he says you are enough, then that's it.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

The enemy doesn't need to create a new narrative, he doesn't need to change your thought process, he doesn't need to change what God said to you. All he needs to change is you and that one slight maybe I'm not. Yeah, maybe. Like maybe an if, if a two-letter word that changes every direction in your life. It's a ma it amazes me. He just needs to he just needs you to question originally what you already know is the truth.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. So how do you how do you discern God's voice versus the enemy? One blood, you ask.

SPEAKER_00

Yep, let's see.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, go ahead.

SPEAKER_00

No, go ahead.

SPEAKER_02

Let's get practical. How do you know the difference? Well, one, God's voice will bring clarity, not confusion.

SPEAKER_00

Clarity. Clarity.

SPEAKER_02

God is not the author of confusion, 1 Corinthians 14, 33. And God's voice will always, always, always align with the scripture. It will never contradict his word. So if they don't line up, you hear there's a voice in your head telling you something, and it don't line up with the word of God. No.

SPEAKER_00

And if you're not if you're not strong with the word of God, if you're not, if you're if if if you get this like feeling, right? Like you get this like gut feeling when it's wrong. You do you need to listen to that feeling. You know, it's no different than when you walk outside somewhere and you're like, ooh, you know what I mean? Sometimes the God is like, hello, it's not safe here. You know what I mean? And that's the same. And nowadays, you have God at your fingertips. You have the Bible app. Yeah. Just Google. And Google will pull up Bible verses and and help you find the word to say positive on.

SPEAKER_02

Another thing is that God convicts, He doesn't condemn. If he brings condemnation, that's not of God. Conviction says, Come back to me. Condemnation will tell you you're not good enough. Romans 8.1 said, There is now no condemnation. And also God's voice will always produce peace, even when it's hard. Colossians 3 15 says, Let the peace of Christ rule.

SPEAKER_00

Condemnation. You know, and and coming, you know, our history and out of addiction and a lot of the choices that we made, condemnation was Hell yeah. I mean, that was I think that's all I knew. Right? And it was, and it you know, and and I used to be like, oh, it's me, you know, it's me feeling that way. But was it really? I don't think so anymore. Right? Uh the deeper I get with God, he was always screaming, come back, yeah, come back, yeah. You know, and I was always like, I'm not good enough. But that was always the enemy talking to us and teaching us that it wasn't we weren't good enough and that we couldn't come back. So, personal ref you know, let's reflect a minute. So, what did God say in chapter two? What did he say about your life? What is your calling? Do you know your identity in God? And what season do you think you're in? You know, and there's there's days I wake up and I think I'm in a waiting season, and then there's days I wake up and I feel like I'm in a peace season, and then there's days I wake up and life is happening and I feel like I'm in a chaos season.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, and tornado, tornado season.

SPEAKER_00

Yes, yes, but it's not when we're talking about this, it's not things that I particularly am causing in my own life, but like the world still happens, right? Work still happens, things still happen. You know, uh it took three days for us to finally get together because work kept getting in the way, you know, life kept getting in the way, and I was just like, this, and by yesterday, I was just like, okay. So this morning when I woke up, and you text me, I was I was already awake, but the first thing I did was I turned on K-Love, which is a satellite radio Christian station. I turned on K Love, you know, and I was just kind of just meditating, meditating in the worship music, you know, I was kind of just talking with God, you know, I prayed for Chad. I was just kind of just, you know, and that's when I know I'm at peace. That's when I know I'm at peace. And so like my favorite day of the week has become a day off because especially if my husband is at work because I'm by myself. No, right, because I get that moment of peace.

SPEAKER_02

Mine wants to take off when I'm off now. Can come over and peace while we're podcasting.

SPEAKER_00

Hi, at least he's at least he's he's spending time. I know.

SPEAKER_02

That's good.

SPEAKER_00

But where you start to question it is because this isn't everyone. This isn't about Eve anymore. It's about us, right? It's not about the decisions or the choices that Eve made. It's about the decisions and the choices that we make, you know, and and the apple and the garden and all of the things, it represents everyday life. It represents every decision that we make, every choice that we make, you know, and like we were talking about uh trying to figure out who my authentic self is, you know, instead of agreeing right away, now I pray. And that's not something that I've always done. Yeah, same. You know, that's not something I've always done because I get invited to do things all the time, right? But it's not always my blessing to share, and it's not always my story to give. And and sometimes there's someone that somebody else needs to hear, and that's where we need to know. So you don't need a new word, you need to remember the first word that God gave you, the old word that God gave you. Yeah, and you need to stand on it. And when I when we started this podcast at that women's conference, and uh, you know, when we started discussing it, you know, I don't dream very often. Like when I sleep, I sleep, right? Uh I could sleep to a tornado. Um, but when we first started this, and I was so excited and just couldn't think about anything else. You know, I dreamed that in 10 years that me and you would be traveling and talking to groups and doing all the things, and this being the second year, I feel like we're nowhere close, right? But 10 years seems to be a long time away. You know, and and I believe that that dream was from God, and I believe that that's where we are headed, and I believe that, you know, I get all these messages all the time. Oh, you can pay to get this many downloads or this many follows. I'm not gonna do that. Yeah, I'm not doing that, yeah. Because I feel like that's not that's not the point of the podcast, right? It's not the point, it's not the point of being famous, it's not the point of having whatever. It's never been the point of that, it's always been the point of being where we're supposed to be, when we're supposed to be. And so we want to stand on that, and that's why we keep pushing through. Yes, even when I feel defeated or distracted or discouraged, you know. You have to live it like it's true. Yeah, and that's you know, whether I get one download or 50 downloads on the on each episode, it doesn't matter.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, right?

SPEAKER_00

It doesn't matter.

SPEAKER_02

Because if God said it, he means that's right. He means that's right.

SPEAKER_00

And we believe, we truly, truly believe in in what God says and what he is going to guide for us and where he is taking us. And we pray for you every day that he is leading you and guiding you where you need to be. Dear Father God, we come to you right now in humility and in honestness. Yes. Because if we're real, we've questioned you on more than one occasion. We've doubted what you've said, we've entertained thoughts that didn't come from you. We've allowed confusion where you already gave us clarity. But today, God, we come back to truth. Yes. Remind us of what you spoke, anchor us in your word, and give us discernment to recognize your voice over every other voice. Silence the enemy's lies, strengthen our spirits, and help us stand firm on what you've already said to us. We trust you, and we trust you again and again and again. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.

SPEAKER_02

Amen. And if this episode spoke to you, share it with another sister because someone right now is questioning what God already confirmed. And maybe your share is a reminder that they need.

SPEAKER_00

Don't let a question in your chapter three rewrite what God already settled in your chapter two.

SPEAKER_02

Amen.

SPEAKER_00

Amen. See you next week, ladies.

SPEAKER_02

Bye.
