Navigating School, Gaming, and Life with Arie
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
There's something magical about seeing the world through a child's eyes – where honesty flows freely, perspectives are refreshingly straightforward, and life's complexities are distilled into beautifully simple terms.
In this heartwarming return episode, young Arie joins us again to share his thoughts on everything from school life to family pets. With remarkable articulation for his age, he offers candid insights into the reality of bullying, explaining that people sometimes tease others "because when they get very angry." When asked what makes someone a good friend, his answer is touchingly practical: "Being nice to people... Like when they go to the ground, help them get up."
The conversation meanders through his entertainment preferences (Moana 2 is a favourite because "she has a special power that she can control water"), his gaming world (complete with a special microphone for connecting with friends while playing Roblox), and his impressive menagerie of pets – including two cats that hilariously "box each other" on their hind legs. Throughout it all, Arie displays an astonishing memory, recalling specific dates, song titles, and details about his pets with remarkable precision.
Perhaps most endearing is Arie's willingness to showcase his musical talents once again, bravely singing "All My Life" without hesitation or self-consciousness – a reminder of the natural confidence many children possess before the world teaches them doubt. As our conversation concludes with the promise of singing "Chasing Paradise" during his next visit, we're left reflecting on the wisdom, humour, and unique perspectives that children bring to our lives when we simply take the time to listen.
Join us for this delightful glimpse into childhood that will leave you smiling, nodding in recognition, and perhaps seeing your own world with slightly fresher eyes.
Meeting Ari Again

Speaker 1Saturday.
Speaker 2Once again. I remember that last time we did this podcast, you were very quick at answering, and you're already quick again, aren't you?
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2What was the most significant thing? What was the most important? Thing, you did last time on the podcast. Do you remember Singing? You had to sing and you were our very first person singing. Yeah, now, I did send that recording to your mum and then your dad separately. What did they say about your podcast last time?
Speaker 1Very cool.
Speaker 2Very cool. What do you think of the podcast last time?
Speaker 1Very cool as well.
Speaker 2Well, I think you're very cool. Now are you ready for some more questions today?
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2Do you want them to be easy or challenging questions?
Speaker 1Easy.
Speaker 2All right, we'll start off easy, then we'll see how we go, you ready.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2Do you have a preference of what we talk about first?
Speaker 1No.
Speaker 2All right, let's talk about the weather. It's raining outside.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2Do you like it when it's rainy or sunny?
Speaker 1Sunny.
Speaker 2Do you like it when it's cold or hot?
Speaker 1Hot.
Speaker 2Why.
Speaker 1Because when you get cold you can probably freeze to death.
Speaker 2Now, when I picked you up, was it cold. Yeah, why was it cold?
Speaker 1Because it was raining.
Speaker 2Yeah, we had to run through the rain, didn't we? Yeah, and we got a nice warm car.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2I felt like falling asleep. Yeah, lucky I didn't. When I was driving, hey, yeah, you'd have to drive. No, can you drive a car? No, well, that would be awkward, wouldn't it? How do we get home? Would you go outside and push?
Speaker 1No.
Speaker 2That'd be a bit unfair, wouldn't it? Yeah, okay, so you like summer months?
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2All right, let's talk a bit about you. How old are you?
Speaker 1Two.
Speaker 2You're two years old. Oh wow, You're speaking very well for a two-year-old, aren't?
Speaker 1you, hey David.

Speaker 1The worst one is bullying.
Speaker 2Also, I had a lot of bullying, bullying. So what number out of five would you feel like school is? Is it a one or two, or three, or four or five? If five's the best and one's the worst, what's school for you? School, okay, and so there's some bullying at school? Yeah, do you get bullied?

Speaker 2me? No, and you know what. It's not just your school, it happens in all schools. You know that. Yeah, you know. I know there's parents out there who think there's schools that have snowballing, but there's always bullying in some kind of school. Yeah, why do you think people bully?
Speaker 1Because they want to tease everyone.
Speaker 2Yeah, but why would they want to tease people?
Speaker 1Because when they get very angry, they want to tease.
Speaker 2Yeah, yeah. Have you ever done any bullying to people? Nope, that's good. That's good. Yeah, a lot of people who have things in their life going on that's not good. They often bully other people to make themselves feel better. Yeah, which isn't right, is it?

Speaker 2Okay, you've got two PlayStations.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2How do you play two PlayStations at the same time?
Speaker 1Oscar plays on the other PlayStation and I play on the other PlayStation, even though I got my brand new mic, a gaming mic, have you?
Speaker 2Yeah, does it happen like does a gaming mic hop, does it go on your earphones, like your headphones, or does it come separate, like the ones we're on now?
Speaker 1It's like ones that can connect to the desk and then go towards and have that screen thing to make your voice go better, and a microphone.
Speaker 2Oh.
Speaker 1It goes like this, and then you can talk.
Speaker 2And does it get very loud? Nope, is it very clear like these ones.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2And who do you talk to?
Speaker 1My friends.
Speaker 2Okay, how does that work? So you're playing games but you're talking to your friends at the same time? Yeah, how do you do that? Do you mean like you're both playing? You're all playing the same game.
Speaker 1Yeah, but I'm plugged in to the keyboard onto the PlayStation.
Speaker 2Yeah.
Speaker 1So I don't have to use the PlayStation to talk, I can use the mic.
Speaker 2Is it better? Yeah, how long have you had that for?
Speaker 1Again.
Speaker 2How long have you had that for?
Speaker 129th of January.

Speaker 2Yes, probably not good for young people either. Is it so? Fortnite and Minecraft? No, minecraft and Roblox All right. What's your favourite out of those two?
Speaker 1I would say Roblox.
Speaker 2And so people are going to laugh at me because I've never played it before. What's the main thing with Roblox? What do you do? What's the whole idea of the game? What do you have to do?
Speaker 1You have to. Some games you have to get stronger and fly. Some games you have to grow stuff. Okay, and some games are simulators.
Speaker 2Ooh, that's a big word. Yeah, what do simulators mean?
Speaker 1Like a game, like I don't really know. Okay.
Speaker 2It's like a make-believe sort of game.
Speaker 1Yeah.

Speaker 1with the game I just go like beep, beep beep.
Speaker 2Do you ever sing on your microphone? No, not in your games. No, do you know if you sang on your microphone during games? Do you ever put on your microphone? No, not in your games. No, do you know if you sang on your microphone during games? Do you ever put the other person off?
Speaker 1I'll put my mic off. Well, I can't, because it will only block the PlayStation one, except for the mic.
Speaker 2Oh, okay, can PlayStation still play DVDs? No one does DVDs anymore.
Speaker 1You can still do DVDs.
Speaker 2Do you have DVDs at home of movies and songs?
Speaker 1I watch Paw Patrol.
Speaker 2Oh, paw Patrol, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 1That's all I watch.
Speaker 2Okay.
Speaker 1Oh yeah, I watch funny cat videos.
Speaker 2Oh, I've heard about these funny cat videos. Is it when cats just do silly things? Yeah, what's the funniest one you reckon you've seen a cat do in those cat funny videos?
Speaker 1The first one that I ever seen was a cat in a cat carrier, and the person was trying to get it, but it slipped out of its hand and then landed on the ground.
Speaker 2Do you have a cat at your mum's or dad's place?

Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2Do they get up on their hind legs and fight yeah, no way. How does that look? Does that look funny?
Speaker 1Yeah, they go like.
Speaker 2Up and scroll each other. Are they old cats or young cats?
Speaker 1Young cats. They're both young Didi's like three years old.
Speaker 2Okay.
Speaker 1And Nala is five months old.

Speaker 1Okay, and do they scratch you? No, do they bite you? No, they don't.
Speaker 2Is that because you were teasing her?
Speaker 1No, I was scratching her belly and she goes like. You know how they kick their legs on your hand.
Speaker 2Yeah.
Speaker 1That's what she did and then went like oh, and a hiss. No bit me.
Speaker 2Oh, did it hurt. No luckily yeah, and do you have any other animals?

Speaker 1No, oh sorry, two dogs. Yeah, Now here's a trick question?
Speaker 2Well, not a, not good. So you've got two hot dogs? No, oh sorry two dogs, yeah. Now here's a trick question. Well, not a trick question. Here you go. What? How old are those dogs? Do you know how old those dogs are?

Speaker 2Very good, good memory, yep.
Speaker 1Poppy, who's 12 years old.
Speaker 2Whoa, that's old.
Speaker 1Yeah, she got a little limp.
Speaker 2Okay, now here's the next. I have to ask you hard questions because you're too good at the podcast. Here we go ready. Do you know what kind of breed they are? Do you know what? Nope, you don't know. You've got homework, then haven't you? You've got homework from Mr Woodford? You, no, you've got homework, then haven't you? You've got?
Speaker 1homework from Mr Woodford. You have to find out what breed your dogs are. My cat is a tiger. A tiger so when he gets older, he's going to turn into a tiger.
Speaker 2He has hairs like on the top of the ears. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, I know what you mean.

Speaker 1No.
Speaker 2Not even a gold one.
Speaker 1Goldie.
Speaker 2Goldie, that's a good one. I like that. So you've got a heap of fish.
Speaker 1What.
Speaker 2So you've got a heap of fish, you've got two dogs, you've got two cats and fish and fish Any other animals you've got on cats and fish and fish, any other animals you've got on your farm or in your place no birds, no budgies, no cockatoos, no cockatiels, no. Speaker 1All my Life.
Speaker 2All my Life. Yeah, that's the song you like to sing. Yeah, is it the one you sang last time?
Speaker 1No, last time I did right foot first.
Speaker 2That's right. You're right foot first, and does that mean you're going to sing All my Life today?
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2Are you going to be brave enough to sing again today?
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2I love it when you do that. That's so cool. All right, are you going to sing now? Yeah, okay, do you want me to say three, two, one, all?

Speaker 1I don't know.
Speaker 2Do you feel nervous singing? No, it's amazing. It's amazing. That's so good and so can you remember, by the way, that was really good. Can you remember the songs you played on Spotify on the way over here from your place to the library here in the studio?
Speaker 1All my Life Chasing Paradise. I Was Made For Loving you by Kiss.
Speaker 2And was there one more? What about the one that Dad likes?
Speaker 1Purple Rain.
Speaker 2Purple Rain by Prince. How do you have this big? Where did this big memory come from? I don't understand how you got such a good memory. And this is a scary thing I actually got Ari to say because my phone was on the charging dock and playing music through the, I suppose through the radio. We plugged it in, but I asked Ari to unlock my phone using my passcode and he remembered it. Yeah, I asked Ari to unlock my phone using my passcode and he remembered it.
Speaker 1Yeah.
