Connection To Country: Kids, Waterholes, And Songs
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
Start with the smell of salt on your hands, the hum of tyres after a long drive, and the easy rhythm that only comes when mates pile into one day with no big agenda. We invited Arie, Jack, and Memphys to lean into Connection to Country, and what unfolded was a string of small, honest moments that felt bigger than any plan: a caught flounder, a lost magnet miraculously scooped from the water, and the kind of laughter that makes time slow down.
We move from jetty talk to waterhole dreams, swapping stories about Iluka, rule-bending at the waterpark, and the micro-choices that reveal who we are—favourite colours, best snacks, and why some of us will always choose the movie theatre over the couch. Music keeps the energy warm and unguarded. Eminem becomes a lullaby on a late-night drop-off. Marshmello and Juice WRLD spark a debate about beats, vocals, and what gets stuck in your head when you’re not trying to impress anyone. Ari threads in a brave melody. Memphis drops robot tones with style. Jack leans into the jokes and the heart.
Underneath the banter sits a real framework for belonging: land, water, and shared attention. Connection to Country isn’t a slogan here—it’s the jetty under our feet, the net in our hands, and the way a lucky catch can turn a near-miss into a story everyone owns. We touch on kindness and giving, too, when the candy-aisle question becomes a conversation about charity and character. Even the snack picks—honey soy chips, gummy bears, and apple pie with custard—carry the comfort of rituals that say, you’re safe here.
If you’re looking for an episode that blends youth voice, outdoor adventure, and the healing power of music, you’ll feel right at home. Press play for a day that proves strong communities grow from simple habits: show up, share the moment, sing the chorus, and celebrate the small wins. If this resonates, follow the show, share it with a mate, and leave a quick review to help more people find these stories.
Welcome And Intros
SPEAKER_04Well, welcome to another vision of Beyond the Plan. I've got three gentlemen with me here at the moment. I've got Ari. How are you, mate? Good. I've got Jack, he's Grooving here. How are you, Jack? Good. First time on the podcast, mate. Welcome. Well done. You notice? A little bit. Yeah, it gets normal. That's good. And I've got Memphis over here to my right. How are you?
SPEAKER_01Good. Pretty good.
Connection To Country Day
SPEAKER_04That's good. Um, gentlemen, we've just we're doing a program called Connection to Country. And we've gone for a bit of a drive, we've gone for a bit of a fish, have some morning tea, and now we're doing a podcast. Ari, you've done a few podcasts before.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_04What are you known for on a podcast? What do you normally do that no one else usually does?
SPEAKER_00Sometimes I sing.
SPEAKER_04Sometimes you sing because you like the music, don't you? Yeah. Because mum and dad are into music as well, aren't they?
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
Fishing Stories And The 80cm Flathead
SPEAKER_04Yeah, very good. And Jack, what's your biggest passion? What do you like doing the most? I know the answer to this, but what do you like doing? We've just been fishing to Iluca for a couple of nights, don't we? How good was that? Good. Caught a big flatty? The bet thing ever. It was the best thing. It was so much fun with you, mate. You did such a good job. Can you remember how big the flat was? 80 centimeter. 80 centimetres. That's amazing. And today at the at the boat at the jetty we were fishing at, you caught something in the a founer. A flounder. And he caught something else too. Big red string on it. Oh yeah. A mutton. Yeah. What what did he catch? Memphis? He caught something else in his net. What was that? It was a he caught a flounder fish. He caught this other fish. It looked like a red rope. And had a metal bit at the end. Like he caught that in his net. What was that called? What kind of fish was that he caught?
SPEAKER_00Uh Taylor?
SPEAKER_04No, red piece of rope. Bit of metal on the end.
SPEAKER_00And DK. I don't know.
SPEAKER_04You can't remember what he caught in his net. Something he might have thrown over the edge accidentally?
SPEAKER_01Oh my magnet. What was it? My magnet.
The Lost Magnet And Lucky Net
SPEAKER_04So that's probably the first time and only time Jack will catch a magnet, I think. Yep. How lucky were you? What happened? Take us through. What happened?
SPEAKER_01Uh I accidentally I wasn't I didn't realise that I wasn't holding the rope. And then when I threw it in, by the time I realized it was already too late and the entire thing was already in the water. But then min but then moments later, Jack caught it in his net.
SPEAKER_04And it's lucky because Jack's a freak with his net, which means he's really good at it. Because I think I was fishing next to you, Ari, and I was trying to get the hook to get it. I had no chance. He's a gun, says, I don't think you're going to find it even if you swim out there. And next thing Jack comes in and goes, I've caught something in my net. And I couldn't believe it. And we were so excited, so happy about it.
SPEAKER_01And I and but and before that, I was saying, Well, we have to get an underwater trade, maybe.
SPEAKER_04But well, I was actually saying too when's your your birthday's in a few days' time, like in 11 days' time. And I said we're gonna maybe get look up a magnet and see get your new one for your birthday.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
Waterpark Slides And Rule-Bending
SPEAKER_04But Jack's save a day. Ari, what are you looking forward to the most today? You're looking forward to a swim. Yeah?
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_01I love swimming.
SPEAKER_04You do?
SPEAKER_01I know, I do still force your buttons.
SPEAKER_04I've seen you before recently swim and where would where'd we go this week? I've taken I've taken Memphis before. Where do we go this week? Um Where'd we go with your brother? Yes. And for some reason, can you remember how many can you remember how many steps there were?
SPEAKER_00Um 48.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. Remember doing the 48 steps? It was like doing leg day.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_04You guys were going crazy on those slides.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Yeah, it was funny. Especially on the um the tube slide.
SPEAKER_04Oh yeah, the tube. Hey, guess what?
unknownWhat?
SPEAKER_04I think Jack and I'd be okay, but you know that when we when you and I went on the tube, we we broke the rules. Because I read the rules the other day, guess what it said?
SPEAKER_01What?
Music Chats: Eminem, Marshmello, Juice WRLD
SPEAKER_04It said no more than 140 kilos, and I'm about a hundred kilos, and no more difference in weight, no more difference than weight in 40 kilos, which means you would have had to be in 60 kilos, and you're not 60 kilos. You're a lot lighter. So that's why we went down the slide, and I sat in the back, it was like up on an incline, and the guy was trying to push us down because I was bogging us down. You're supposed to be like similar weight. So we're naughty doing that. I saw this song the other day. And I didn't think Ari was gonna be big enough, but you were easily, weren't you? You're tall enough. Ari, what were some of the songs that you sung on the podcast before? Can you remember? It's been a while.
SPEAKER_00All my life.
SPEAKER_04Are you gonna sing again tonight?
SPEAKER_00Maybe.
SPEAKER_04Might be towards the end. Alright. Um, you boys won't know this, but there's somebody sitting at this table right now who likes MM. Who do you think that is?
SPEAKER_00Jack.
SPEAKER_04We both looked at Jack.
SPEAKER_00Oh yeah, I even got a new song from Daniel Ferry.
SPEAKER_04I'm gonna sing that in a second.
unknownYeah.
Quickfire Favourites: Colours To Games
SPEAKER_04Um Jack helped me move all day yesterday, so he's probably a bit tired today. We I picked him up about 7. I was a bit late, 7.40. And guess what? I dropped him off at 11:30 at night. Yep. And the last thing I said to Jack was, can you remember the last thing I said to you in the car? No. Because you were busted. I said, I'm gonna put some Eminem on it for you. Yeah. And so I put some Eminem on for him, and guess what? About two minutes later, I looked across. I thought, I wonder if he's singing here. Because last time we talked to Luke, he was just doing a jam and a bit of a sing. He was uh singing ZZs, he was asleep. He was gone, he was gone. So I just kept listening to Eminem by myself, kept going. Yep. Um, Jack, what are you looking forward to the most today? Like we've done fishing, we're doing a podcast now. We're gonna go The Waterhole. Yeah, you like the Waterhole? Yeah. Yeah, nothing. Why I don't have a hot woman. It's just allowed.
SPEAKER_01Can we get on with the questions? No, what's the mistake?
SPEAKER_04He's looking forward to the water hole because there might be some hot women. Yeah. The bet thing ever.
SPEAKER_01I mean, to be fair, he does need a girl.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, he needs a girl. Well, he's a strong. Oh yeah. Thank you. Well, so he's patient. He's a strong week. He's a strong looking lad, isn't he? He's good. I'm a bit scared of what's on his shirt though.
SPEAKER_01He's praying in two weeks' time that he'll get a hot girlfriend.
SPEAKER_04Well, well, being nice is the most important thing. We've talked about that, but he's a good bloke and he deserves a nice girlfriend. So yes. Let's go to the quick questions. We're gonna go around the Memphis first, around this way, and then Jack, I'm gonna ask you first. We're gonna go back this way. So you're gonna be in the middle. And Ari, you're gonna sing before we leave. I'm gonna challenge you to go have a bit of a sing before we go. All right, ready? And I've asked some of these questions before, but Jack might know the answer. So here we go. We ready? Memphis. Favourite colour?
SPEAKER_01Red. Blue.
SPEAKER_04Red. Red, okay. Um, do you have a favorite number? 13. 13?
SPEAKER_0110. First favourite number seven. Uh, but my second favourite number is 67.
SPEAKER_04Oh my gosh. T minus. That's 10. That's two push-ups. Every time you say six, seven, two pushups today.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_04Okay, Memphis. You're um oh, let's go. Jack, you have to think back a bit. You're a bit older. Your favorite subject at school you do. Favourite subject?
SPEAKER_01Free time.
SPEAKER_04Can you say that? Like lunchtime.
SPEAKER_01No, no, no, that sometimes in my classroom we get free time.
SPEAKER_04What do you what do you do in free time?
SPEAKER_01Colour.
Movies, Foods, And Strong Opinions
SPEAKER_04Colouring. What's your favorite subject? Math. Oh, you're like you're good at math. Jack, when you're at school, did you have a favorite subject? Mation food. Oh, good. That's good. Yeah, that's good. That's nice. All right. Do you well I know you're answering this one, Jack? We'll go again. Favourite song or singer? Mm. MM. I like eating MMs. Is that different? Me too. Favourite song or song type?
SPEAKER_00Or my favorite artist is Daniel Ferry.
SPEAKER_04And you're going to sing some Dan Ferry soon. You speak very well. I like that.
SPEAKER_01Come and go from Juice Well to Marshmallow.
SPEAKER_04Oh, are you going to sing some of that today, too?
SPEAKER_01I don't know how to sing it. I don't I only know the song, but yeah.
SPEAKER_04You play some good songs in the car and we go for it for it.
SPEAKER_01Marshmallow rarely speaks, so he mostly does. So it's mainly the DJ who does the music in the background. And Juice Well's a singer.
SPEAKER_04Can I ask you a serious question?
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_04If marshmallow was to be teased, does that mean he's toasted? Or roasted? What do you mean like a roasted marshmallow?
SPEAKER_01Roasted. No, but he would become a black marshmallow.
SPEAKER_04Oh, I like those when you cook them too much and you eat them, it's delicious. That's so good.
SPEAKER_01The reason why I said black is because uh he might come after you. Just so you know. Just so you know.
SPEAKER_04Because I burnt him.
SPEAKER_01Just so you know.
SPEAKER_04Alright. Um, Memphis, your favorite video game at the moment?
SPEAKER_01Minecraft.
SPEAKER_04Minecraft?
SPEAKER_01Oh.
SPEAKER_04Jack?
SPEAKER_03No.
SPEAKER_04No? You're a TikToker? You like watching TikTok? Yeah. What kind of things do you like watching on TikTok? Hot Woman. Censored. Censored, censored. Uh out bit ooh. Yeah. Uh fitting bitter.
SPEAKER_01Uh six seven memes.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, that. Yeah. Disentertaining stuff. Yeah. Yeah. I want the foot one a bit more. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01At least Shaq doesn't wear a furry tale anymore.
SPEAKER_04No, okay. Um would you prefer going to, I'm going to go with you, Jack, first, the movie theatre to watch a movie or watch it at home on Netflix? Or would you prefer? Movie. Theatre, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Theatre.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_01What was the question?
SPEAKER_04Would you rather go to the movies or sit at home and watch movies?
SPEAKER_01Theatres.
SPEAKER_04No, two questions, sorry. Your least favourite food. Members? Least favourite food is probably how would have to be I can hear Jack sniffing in his microphone because he's got the flu. He's trying to give me COVID last night and coughing. He did 15 sneezes in a row. He's laughing over there.
SPEAKER_01I don't know.
SPEAKER_04Least favourite? I know what they are. Fruit, vegetables.
SPEAKER_01Oh yeah. Salad. Salad.
SPEAKER_04I don't like salad.
SPEAKER_01I don't like salad.
SPEAKER_04Alright. What's your least favourite food, Ari?
SPEAKER_00Watermelon.
SPEAKER_04You don't like watermelon?
SPEAKER_00Oh yeah. I mean orange.
SPEAKER_04You don't like orange?
SPEAKER_00Just kidding. Psych. I know he's very.
SPEAKER_04Is there some food that you go, I'm not eating that, no chance. What is it? What's it mean like? What's your least favourite food, Jack? Puntin. But don't like pumpkin. Okay, audio. When I was a kid, I was the same, but now I'm not.
SPEAKER_01Do you say pumpkin or pumpkin?
SPEAKER_04Yes, pumpkin. Okay, fat best food. Favourite food. Apple pie, my favourite. Oh yum. Stop. That sounds delicious. Same. Yours is apple pie too. Yum. Do you like it with custard and ice cream? Yep. Oh, stop.

SPEAKER_04What's your favorite food?
Sing-Along, Beatbox, And Closing Thanks
SPEAKER_01You put the water in it and then you put the melons in it. Watermelons. Sets it.
SPEAKER_04Alright, we can't finish on that note. We have to do one more. And this is one I've asked you guys before, but I haven't heard Jack's.
SPEAKER_01Favourite superhero.
SPEAKER_04Oh my gosh. I'm not even going to ask that because we know it's all Superman. He wears his undies on the outside and his pill.
SPEAKER_01Take the what?
SPEAKER_04Pardon? Um no, on here, if you had, if I gave you each$10 now and you went to Cole's or Woolies or Aldi, whichever shop you go to, and you have to buy your favourite either chips, lolly, or chocolate. Only one, what would it be? So Memphis, I've given you$10, and you have to buy it on one of those things. What's your favourite? You go down a lolly aisle or chip awesome, or what do you have?
SPEAKER_01First of all, I'd buy you or I'd invest it.
SPEAKER_04You're always very giving a lot about you. But what would you do?
SPEAKER_01Actually, you know what? No, I'll give it to charity.
SPEAKER_04Okay. But if you had to buy a lolly or chocolate, what would it be? Do you have a favourite? A chocolate? Just a plain chocolate?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, but if I yeah, but if I had like say like 10 or 20, I would either give it to charity or character research.
SPEAKER_04Oh, very good. I love that. That's very thoughtful. Thank you. Ari, you're sitting there very patiently thinking about it. What are you thinking? He looks like a professional podcaster. Look, shoulders up, just relax, chilled out. What would you have?
SPEAKER_00Wait, what?
SPEAKER_04If you got to have one volley of chocolate or a pack of chips, what would you have? Chips. What flavor?
SPEAKER_00Potato ones.
SPEAKER_04Just plain ones? Plain potato chips.
SPEAKER_00The one the honey soy.
SPEAKER_04Oh yum. The kettle chips, that's good. Alright, Jack. Lucky last. What would you buy? Gummy bear. Oh, the gummy bears.
SPEAKER_01My ears just blasted out.
SPEAKER_04Sorry about that. Alright, now before we go, we're gonna put Memphis wants to do a bit of robot noise, but I want to hear if uh we've got a couple of lines here. Jack, are you keen to sing? Yep. Yeah, what are you gonna sing? I don't know, yeah. Oh, this is good. Are you gonna sing Memphis?
SPEAKER_01Beatbox, probably.
SPEAKER_04Did a beatbox to a robot noise?
SPEAKER_01Sure.
SPEAKER_04Alright. Ari, are you gonna sing? Who wants to go first? Ari, alright, let's go.
SPEAKER_00Don't be like me. Don't be a free.
SPEAKER_02Oh I feel so. I feel so good. I forgot to say happy.
SPEAKER_04Oh that was awesome. That's a best one. That was so good. Well, that's a bit of pressure. Jack, what do you got? I want an apple pie. These um what? These palms are sweaty. Palms are spaghetti. Memphis? You gonna go to a bit of robot? Okay, ready? This could be interesting. Um let's do the monster one. Oh This is interesting, isn't it?
SPEAKER_02Oh do the monster one?
SPEAKER_04Oh baby. Okay, well that's fine, but don't speak like a baby, please go. Ask me properly.
unknownCan I?
SPEAKER_04No, you're not like that.
SPEAKER_02Good.
SPEAKER_00Can you do mine?
SPEAKER_04That was actually pretty good too.
SPEAKER_02Yay! Yay.
SPEAKER_04Well, we're nearly finished here, so we're gonna sign off. But boys, thanks very much for coming on the podcast. Jack, well done. First one, you did really well. And I hope you guys enjoyed the rest of your day. Thanks for coming to the program today. I hope Dabby, Barbie, Apple Pie are there.
