Fishing, Friendships, And Friendly Rivalries
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
A fishing line bends, a reel almost hits the water, and three teens spark a debate that sets the tone for everything that follows: was it skill, luck, or pure mateship that landed the brim? From that first laugh, we dive into a day shaped by sport, holidays, and the kind of quickfire questions that reveal more than they seem. The energy is light, the teasing is real, and the insights sneak up between stories of sleepovers, boat rides to Moreton, and cheering the Bullets win or lose.
We open up the sporting map: basketball dreams with point guards in the making, rugby union passion from flanker to second row, and shoutouts to the Wallabies and Brisbane teams. The chat flows into what school gets right—HPE wins when movement beats theory—and why aiming high matters. We talk about setting goals big enough to stretch you, like shooting for Australia and being proud if you land at a top club. The boys own their preferences without apology: red or blue, six or seven, chocolate or gummy bears. Those choices, simple as they are, carry a confidence you can hear.
Then the lens widens. A green Lamborghini versus not caring about cars at all. Bikes and riding with mates. A $100 million thought experiment that turns into a lesson on investing, private islands, and buying a Maccas franchise because community spots and business can go hand in hand. The thread through it all is persistence and play: try a different bait, cast further, stick with it. We wrap with plans for a feed, a kick of the footy, and a swim—because the best days balance effort with joy.
If you love youth sport, real talk, and the spark of big dreams told with a grin, you’ll feel right at home here. Listen, share it with a mate who needs a nudge to aim higher, and leave a quick review to help more people find the show.
Well, here's the second edition of You on the Plan. I've got three new guests here. We're all part of a big program here, six boys. Um, but we've just been fishing. I've got Malakai. How are you, mate? Good. I got Nicholas, how are you? Good. Welcome to your FOD first podcast. Well done. Zave, Zave's been here before. How are you? Good. Hey, I saw a bit of a banter between you and Malaklo about catching a fish. What happened there? Um did Mal cheat or what? Did he put special bait on?
SPEAKER_00Well, I told Malikai that his rod was on a fish and it almost fell in the water.
SPEAKER_02No.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01I saw it. I saw it. I saw it too. I just saw all I thought was Xavier out and go, Oi, your rod, you've got a fish. I looked over, and his rod was half beating over, and the reel that was just hooked onto the piece of wood was about to fall. It's brand new right back to go in the water.
Are We Competitive Or Just Keen
SPEAKER_02Nearly fell.
SPEAKER_01But you caught a brim.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Yeah, nice, right? A hair. I rubbed it in Zeb's face.
SPEAKER_01There's gonna be revenge, isn't there? Yeah. Would you say Xavier, would you say you're a competitive person? Are you competitive? You like to win? Yeah.
SPEAKER_02He hates losing.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_01Do you like what about you, Mel? Do you hate losing? Nah. It doesn't worry?
SPEAKER_02Because I never lose.
SPEAKER_01Oh, he's gonna smack early. What about you, Nick? Do you like losing or do you like do you worry you losing? I like winning. Yeah, you're competitive too, aren't you? You like basketball, AFL, league, don't you? All of them. Yes. What's your favorite out of those three? Basketball. You like basketball? You've got a fair bit of merch too for basketball, don't you? Yes. Well, I actually did bring a basketball today in case we get a chance to have a shoot a few hoops too. See what you've done. I'll cook you. You probably will. You probably will. What about you, Mel? What's your favourite sport?
SPEAKER_02Um union.
Favourite Sports And Holiday Highlights
SPEAKER_01You're about union? You paid a bit of union and league last year, which is pretty cool. And Zay, what about you? Union. Union. But we also talked about cricket on the way here. Oh yeah. Mal, are you a cricket guy or not? Do you like that? Nope. No, but Zave, you follow it? Yeah. And so do you. You'll tell me about the cricket too, Nick, won't you? Yes. That's cool. Yeah. Alright, tell me about so far. I'm going to go to Zave. I'm putting up pressure first. Zave, and then across here to you, Nicholas. And then over to you, Mal, and then we'll go back the other way. What's your been your favourite thing so far about the holidays? Um going in the boat to Morden. Yeah, nice. Good weather over there. Yeah. Any fish you catch? Um, not really, nothing. That's right. At least it's good to get away, isn't it? Yeah. Yeah, nice work, mate.
unknownGood.
SPEAKER_01Nick, best thing about the holidays so far?
SPEAKER_00Going to bullets games.
SPEAKER_01Oh, they have been? Have they been winning? No. Oh no. You need to train up, mate, and play for him one day. What do you think? Maybe you could get as tall as 6'7, 6'7, and see you go from there. Or seven foot. Even better. That'd easy slant dunk, wouldn't it? Mal, best thing about holidays you've done? You've been overseas, I heard.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. I went to New Zealand.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, nice.
SPEAKER_02Saw my family.
SPEAKER_01That's been the best thing. And you had your birthday over there?
SPEAKER_02Yeah. During lunch.
SPEAKER_01Teenager?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that thing.
SPEAKER_01Does that mean we expect a fair bit of attitude from you now? You've turned a teenager.
SPEAKER_02You want attitude?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, see, this is what I'm talking about. Did you hear that?
SPEAKER_02Oh, yes.
SPEAKER_01How old are you now? 15. So you've already got attitude for a long time. Is that what you're saying? Nicholas, give me the death there. I'm scared of. Yeah. Yeah. Yes. Zabe, do you think you've got attitude? Uh, kind of.
SPEAKER_03Yes, a lot.
SPEAKER_01Now, I want to know. I'm I'm wondering whether Mal and Zabe are going to last the whole day because we're here till four or overall the whole day. But these guys have been stayed out at Mals last night. Oh, I mean, we're on the podcast, so you're very well behaved, weren't you? You're in bed by 10 o'clock? Yeah, definitely. 10 o'clock asleep, snoring?
SPEAKER_02Maybe, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Had about eight hours of sleep, maybe? Not ice cream or lollies and three, but okay. Yeah. Nicholas, have you ever had a sleepover? No. If you did have a sleepover, do you think you'd misbehave or do you think you'd go straight to bed at 10 o'clock? I'll probably go to bed at 12. Good answer. You sort of went in between both those things, didn't you? Well done. Um, so boys, we've done fishing. Uh, we've done a podcast now, and then now we're gonna get a feed, have a kick of the footy, and then have a swim to finish off. What activity do you think will be the best for you by the end of the day? I'll go for you, Mel. What do you think is gonna be the favourite?
SPEAKER_02Um, probably the swimming. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yep, like last time you got the rope, swings and stuff.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it was nice.
SPEAKER_01Nick, what do you think?
SPEAKER_00Swimming.
SPEAKER_01You're looking forward to that as well?
SPEAKER_00Yes. Okay, is that uh I can swimming would be good, but rug we're all good as well.
Quickfire Questions: Colours To Classes
SPEAKER_01The footy? Yeah, yeah, cool. So, what we'll do is we'll ask you guys a fair few little questions now, like really quickly. You've got to answer it as fast as you can so see if your brain switched on in the holidays. Um, and then after that, we'll pack up and we'll head out to the footy field, grab a feed, and then we'll finish off with a swim. Sound good? Mel, I'm gonna start with you. We're gonna we're gonna let Nick go third and first this time. So Mal, Zave, Nick, and then next question will be Nick, Zave, Mal. I feel lucky, Zave. You're in the middle time, you get a bit of time to think about. Okay, now you guys, I may have asked this question to you guys before because you've been on the podcast, but Nick hasn't, so we're gonna get you guys to know each other. Here we go, ready? You're scared. Gonna be very hard questions.
SPEAKER_02Uh-oh.
SPEAKER_01Favourite colour?
SPEAKER_02Ah, red.
SPEAKER_01Red. Blue. Do you know? Last guy's two out of three said red as well. Mine's like you, blue, yeah. All right. Do you have a favorite number? Nicholas. Six. Don't say the next one. Six? Um ten. Ten?
SPEAKER_02I'm actually being serious. My favourite number's seven.
SPEAKER_01Seven. Okay, right now. It's like a lucky number too. Um I'll ask this question only because we are on holidays. So this is for you, mail. When you are at school, what's your favourite subject?
SPEAKER_02Well, um, wait, so I tell you again.
SPEAKER_01When you're at school, what is your favourite subject you don't mind going to?
SPEAKER_02Um probably science.
SPEAKER_01Science?
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Okay. Not too much learning.
SPEAKER_01Um HPE. HPE, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Oh, I forgot about that.
SPEAKER_01HP. HP, yeah. Okay. Would you use what's yours favourite science out of science and HP, do you reckon?
SPEAKER_02Pardon?
SPEAKER_01Out of science and HP, what's your favourite?
SPEAKER_02HPE, because we just play around.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, play sport.
SPEAKER_02But not once summer.
Sport Dreams And Teams
SPEAKER_01Sports good. That's all like you guys connecting each other with new friends too, because you guys all like have a similar interest with that with fishing and that and also with a bit of sport. So looking forward to see you guys rip in and do that. Alright, here we go. You're if Nicholas, when you're older, or when, let's say when, because you're gonna be a gun, right? You're already the guru. When you're older, what sport are you gonna play if you get paid for it? Basketball. What position are you gonna play? Tuning guard or point guard. Would you who you gonna play for? I don't know. Okay, come back to you. Alright, come back to it. Dave, you could be any sports star in the world, what sport would it be? Rugby union. And what position would you play? Flanker. Nice. Alright. Mal? Union. Yeah. Second row. Second row, right here. Now I'm gonna go back around and ask you again. Who would you like to play for? Mel, your first?
SPEAKER_02Ah. Broncos.
SPEAKER_01I'd say league?
SPEAKER_02Oh.
SPEAKER_01But you still play for rugby league. Yeah?
SPEAKER_02Oh.
SPEAKER_01Do you have a favourite rugby union team?
SPEAKER_02I don't know. No. Oh wait, I thought Broncos was union.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, no league. So you play for the Broncos, eh? That'd be pretty cool.
SPEAKER_02Brisbane Lions. I'm I'm AFL?
SPEAKER_01That's AFL.
SPEAKER_02Oh. Crap.
SPEAKER_01I don't mind. Some people actually do play a couple of different sports.
SPEAKER_02What's if you tell you what?
SPEAKER_01If you go to the Broncos, we'll come and watch you. But you ought to give us tickets, free tickets.
SPEAKER_02Uh uh. You gotta pay.
unknownThat's hard.
SPEAKER_01Boom. Give me money. Who would you play for? Wallabies. Wallabies, nice. Australia. Yeah. Who would you play for? Brisbane Bullets. Alright, nice. All right. So remember when you do these, when your dreams and goals when you guys are younger, you gotta aim high.
unknownWait.
SPEAKER_01If you're saying wallabies play for Australia, that's perfect. Because imagine if you don't get there, but the one under is still playing for Brumbies or something really high. That's pretty cool. But if you aim for Brumbies and don't get that, you'll make a local team. You know what I mean? So you've got to aim high all the time as you can. Can we do dream cars now? Favourite cars. Like dream car. You are a car guy, aren't you? I don't know if these other guys are a car guy. Let's find out. What's your favourite dream car?
SPEAKER_00Lambo.
SPEAKER_01What colour is it? Green. Green Lambo? And then what's it gonna feel like when you actually drive that Lamborghini up the sunshine case? Fast. You're gonna feel good? Alright, nice. You gonna take me with you? I hope the seatbelt's work. Will you drive sensibly or will you drive fast? Fast. No, don't tell the police. Alright, fine. That's good. Do you have a dream car? Um, not really. I don't know. No. Not really car guy? Not really. No?
SPEAKER_02I don't do cars. I don't know.
SPEAKER_01Don't know?
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Alright. So it's funny how everyone's got different passions, hey. Like yours is cars and sport. What would you say your other passion style? Like your what do you really like?
SPEAKER_02Uh union.
Dream Cars, Bikes, And Hobbies
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so sport, mainly sport. You also like ride your bikes around and stuff too. Oh yeah. Say what about you? Yeah, probably riding. Right? Yeah, riding. Yeah, it's cool. I like you guys doing that. Alright, let's finish off to get to know you guys. I'm gonna ask you questions. You have to answer this as fast as you can and not think about it. It's gonna go the first thing that comes to your mind.
SPEAKER_02It's tired.
SPEAKER_01Okay, you ready for this? I think we started this, haven't we? We said this before. We said favourite colour, favorite number. Let's go. You've just been given ten dollars each and you have to spend it at the shops and get either chips, chocolates, or lollies. You're gonna get one, one thing. What are you buying? You got ten dollars. Chocolate. What kind? Cabry. Cabry plain, dairy milk. Cabry plain. Are you sharing it with me? No. What are you getting, Zave? Lollies. What kind is your favourite? Um gummy bears. Oh that's what one of the guys said over here before. I think Jack said gummy bears. Yeah. Alright.
SPEAKER_02Basically what he said. Plain clearing plain, yeah. Favourite.
SPEAKER_01Nice. Okay. Well, Mal, while you're on the spotlight here, favorite dessert.
SPEAKER_02Dessert?
SPEAKER_01You've had a big feed and then they go, like, dessert time, what do you have for dessert?
SPEAKER_02Wait, what's that with Oreos?
SPEAKER_01Like a McFlurry thing? Yummy. It sounds good, doesn't it? Yes. You can always taste it. If you think about it enough, you can almost taste it. Yeah, alright. Dave? Oh, ice cream. Do you have a favourite flavour? Um, not really.
SPEAKER_02So vanilla.
SPEAKER_01Ice cream. Ice cream as well. Do you have a favourite flavour? Chocolate. Okay. The last lot the guys all said they wanted hot apple pie.
SPEAKER_02Oh, yeah. Apple yummy cuscus.
Snacks, Desserts, And $10 Choices
SPEAKER_01Imagine apple pie with custard and ice cream on. Yes, please. Yes. Is it making you hungry now, this podcast? Yeah, yes. Alright. Um, before we go, before we go. Can we do the hot channel? If if you had as much money in the world and you didn't have to go to school anymore, and your parents actually said, you know what? You have enough money to live the rest of your life and maybe give money to other people, whatever you want to do. What are you gonna do with the money? Like, let's just say you inherited a hundred million or you you made a hundred million dollars. You've got you've now got a hundred million dollars in your bank and you don't have to go to school, and you're like thirteen, thirteen, and fifteen years old. Oh, invest it. Invest it to get more money so you're always safe. Yeah. Would you buy yourself anything though? Would you get your nice car? What are they worth? A mil? One mil?
SPEAKER_00Well, some Lamborghinis in Australia are like uh around like a hundred K or whatever.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I can even more than that, I know, hundred thousand. Yeah. So you buy a nice car first and invest the rest. Good answer, Nicholas. Nice. Would you give something to the Gary Woodford charity account? Yes. That'd be good. I'd need some of that. Thank you. All right, Zay, you got 100 mil. Um buy a private island. Oh, how good. How good's that?
SPEAKER_02Um, I'll buy a mansion.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Um, I'll get like a good car, even though I can't drive. Yeah. Um, I'll still go to school.
SPEAKER_01You would just be mates?
SPEAKER_02Yeah. I just there to see my mates. Um and I'll buy my own Maccaz.
SPEAKER_01Oh, so you'd have your own franchise. That's good. We'd go there, wouldn't we? You'd go to supporting.
If You Had $100 Million
SPEAKER_00Hey, remember how I said we should make a six-seven cafe?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that would be cool. So mention that. A six-seven Maccus cafe. Maybe you're putting the thing together. You'd be loaded. Well, the kids would be like. Probably. Maybe if they did something silly, you could the best one give you a free ice cream or something. I don't know. I like that. So always thinking about business and how to make money. You could you could do um with your island, you could have people come over and stuff. Get a private island. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Advice some people over, like me.
SPEAKER_01Alright, is there anything else on the podcast that you we haven't spoken about you'd like to speak about? Ah. Before we go.
SPEAKER_02I do not know.
SPEAKER_01Don't know?
SPEAKER_02Oh yeah. I'm better at fishing.
SPEAKER_01Uh no.
SPEAKER_02Uh, yes.
SPEAKER_00No.
SPEAKER_01Is it yes? Is it possible that when Malachi had his line out, the fish accidentally just fell on the line? Like just was getting trying to have a scratch. I was trying to scratch himself on the hook and it just you think so?
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_01Mel, what do you think? Do you think it was all skill or do you think it Yeah, it was my skill.
SPEAKER_02It was my rod, you know. Zeb was like, you can't catch a fish or a shark with that rod. It's terrible. I said you can't catch a shark with it. I magically got a fish in my hands, and you were like, whoa.
SPEAKER_01I love how you guys were lazy. Do you know what was really good? Just didn't a second, do you know what it was really good? How you three guys especially just kept going. Like Nick, you tried a different bait, you tried a livey, you kept going, kept going. Your your cast was like about 80 metres, I think that that second last one I saw you. So you guys improving all the time. And good things come to those who wait, right? So well done. Um, before we go, I think we've got something happening here on the podcast, something special. Um Xavier, can you say thanks for having us?
SPEAKER_00Did the hype fit stand?
More Fishing Teasing And Encouragement
SPEAKER_01It's just matured. I think he's gonna say, Um, I'm looking forward to going for a swim. I lucky poor old Zay's going back to flying.
SPEAKER_03I'm looking forward. I'm looking forward to the cover.
SPEAKER_02Zings up fire.
SPEAKER_01Poor old um. Oh my god. Poor Zay's on the spot because only his microphone does it, unfortunately. But um, boys, love to have you guys on this programme. Thanks for coming and good to have you guys having it. Um hope you enjoy the rest of your day.
SPEAKER_02Uh you owe me now.
SPEAKER_01I enjoy seeing you guys here, and um let's go get a feed and have a bit of a kick at the barbecue. Barbecue.
SPEAKER_02I did this now now with my fifty. Barbecue.
SPEAKER_01Nicholas is obviously excited about a barbecue.
SPEAKER_02Yes.
SPEAKER_01All right, let's go.
SPEAKER_00She wants to.
