And then a conversation has evolved from that. And near the end of the conversation is when I've met with those uh with those individuals. So uh I can't tell you uh can't tell you more than that than the other than to uh describe the process. And I think you know what we're what we're focused on, what we've been focused on since uh uh since April 28th uh of last year uh after the election, uh has been having a very clear plan for the country and putting it to work. And since uh and this is an example of of that approach on the screen you have five pictures of the MPs that have crossed the floor thus far in the House of Commons.
SPEAKER_02Four conservatives and one NDP. Here's a breakdown of the five individuals or MPs that have joined the Liberal Party over the last several months, starting in uh last year. Now, we have four conservatives and one NDP. The latest one, Marilyn from the FP from Sarnia, she just affected. Now, what makes this so newsworthy right now? Why is everybody talking about it? It's because she, Marilyn from Sarnia, she was very staunch conservative. And it took everybody by surprise. Members of the Conservative Party, the media were all totally in shock that she had uh basically jumped ship and went over to the Liberal Party. And that's why it's it's a major uh floor crossing. That's a it's a turning point in in in the House of Commons, especially when you have this Piker person, which is a staunch conservative individual, now leaving the Conservative Party and going over to the Liberal Party. That makes it makes it that much in more important. And the other thing is it just in got the government, the Liberal uh party, which is in power right now, one seat short of a majority. Now we have those three by-elections next week, and now they only need to they only need to win one to get the majority, and if they win all three, they'll have a very comfortable margin uh as a majority government. K may ask yourself, why is this all going on? Why are we having why are all these people crossing the floor and joining the Liberal Party? Well, it's all boils down to economic uncertainty. This whole US trade war that we're in with with the pre President Trump is just created a an atmosphere of people feel more comfortable and have more confidence in Prime Minister Mark Carney in leading us in through this uncertain time and economic uh uncertainty. And and and he has the credibility because he's been around, especially in the Bank of England and the Bank of Canada as the governors and the governor of the of the Bank of Canada, and also um, I don't think they call it a governor, uh, but the governor of England. Uh, it's this the same, he ran the Bank of England. And so he has a already a relationship with a lot of leaders, a lot of politicians. So there's sort of a a uh counter, a comfort level for everybody, with the prime minister being in the uh in the in the leadership position right now. And I think the conservatives that have crossed over, and I would say the NDP, the one NDP MP that crossed over, is that they're just frustrated with the leadership under Pierre Polyev and the Conservative Party. I think there's a sense of frustration because the Conservative Party recently has cropped in the polls considerably, where they were neck and neck with the Liberal Party. And certainly the discrepancy between the polls between Mr. Carney as Prime Minister and Pierre Polyev as the leader of the opposition, that has widened as well, even though Pierre Polyev is trying his best to turn things around and change his profile and uh persona uh and how he comes across as as a person that's ready to be prime minister. So I think they're looking for quote unquote some serious leadership, and they see it in Mark Carney. As far as the floor crotzer for the NDP that um um crossed over, I think it's more about uh representation in and having a say in the area that she's from, which is the northern part, northwest uh Canada, northern Canada. And he she wants to have better representation, and that's why she joined the Liberal Party. But it is alarming, it is probably a big problem for the Conservative Party for sure. Probably that's the latest defection uh get the um liberal party closer to majority. It also puts a lot of pressure on Pierre Polyev as leader of the Conservative Party. It's just it's just one thing after another that Pierre Polyev needs to deal with that he just can't gain any traction. And just when he's starting to turn things around, boom, another person walks across the floor. And it's just not we're not talking about a conservative that is sort of new to the party or is not totally uh how should I say a hundred percent uh believes in every single conservative value or position or policy. Um we're talking about somebody that is a staunch conservative or has been. If you look at her website and her uh social media accounts, you'll see that she was 100% conservative. So it's a total shock that there this person was crossing the floor. And it's just a blow to uh uh Pierre Koliev and the Conservative Party. I don't know what else they can do. And there's rumors that there may be other Canadian conservative uh NPs that are thinking of befeck it, and that's in this AP um article that's on the screen right now. That um pretty is the headline and pretty well says that. And uh that's another concern because here probably doesn't know where it's coming from. Um and he's got also some internal staff um problems as well. Um I myself personally think the reason why conservatives are moving from the conservative party over to the liberal party is they see a leader like Mark Carney as a conservative, because I've said this before and I know some people don't like me saying it, but I believe Mark Carney is a conservative disguise as a liberal. And and the proof to that is that look at the policies that he's trying to bring forth, or and policies that he's trying to change, or positions that the Liberal Party previously took, he's slowly changing, and I think that is what's attracting um them over. The other thing is that's what might cause him a problem later with the other members of his caucus that uh are more left of center, sort of in between um the NDP and center of the political spectrum. And I think he may getting get some pushback, as he did when he signed the MOU and he had one of his MPs um uh resign his position within the government, and now it's just sitting there on in the cabinet there or the the house, and that's there's not one, there's many of them, and I think that's gonna become a problem. Now the Liberals right now uh hold um 171 seats, the Liberals. So they're only one shy of a majority. The upcoming uh April 13th by-elections could push uh Prime Minister Carney and the Liberals right into full majority. So they only need one majority, and then anything after that will give them more of a buffer. So if they win all three, then Gail they'll have uh a good buffer there, though it's still sliff. And don't forget, there's that one liberal MP that is going to be leaving the House to come and run for the leadership of the Ontario Liberal Party. At least that's what we we've been told. He could change his mind. Um, a majority will allow Prime Minister Kearney to pass legislation without opposition support. So all in favor, aye, it passes. Uh potentially government fell 2029 without an election. So we'll be without an election until 2029 if he uh obtains majority. This is the last thing that Pierre Polyev needed. He was on a good run there. I did his tour in Europe, um, made speeches, went down to the States, uh, showed showed that showed up with a new auto plan uh to save the auto industry. Um he appeared on Joe Rogan. So everything was sort of moving along at the right pace, and then all of a sudden somebody crosses the floor. Not just anybody, but a hard hardcore conservative. Now, the defection is is one thing with multiple defections, that's a blow to his leadership and the stability of the party. Uh, it signals that there's you know discontent and internal fractures within a conservative caucus. It could trigger more defections because as four go, one more might go, and so on and so forth. Also, it puts a lot of pressure on his leadership, on his leadership style. Um, do they believe in him? That's now we did win 80% of the vote at the conservative leadership review. So he does have a base in his party that support him. Um, but you know, strategic repositioning ahead of any next election, which may not even happen till 2029, you know, it's making the whole thing more more difficult for Pierre Polyev. So let me know your thoughts and comments on this. What do you think? What will you think the reason is that they're crossing the floor? Is it a good thing, bad thing? What do you think about Pierre Polyev's leadership? Please let me know. And thanks for watching. Be safe, and we'll see you on the next one.
