Business Class

How I made a MILLION pounds in one year : Ama Amo-Agyei, Founder of Plantmade

Vicky Owens

Welcome back to another episode of Business Class with your host Vicky Owens.

In this episode, Vicky sits down with Ama Amo-Agyei, founder and CEO of Plantmade - one of the UK’s fastest-growing clean beauty and hair wellness brands.

Ama’s journey is nothing short of remarkable. After being made redundant at the start of the COVID-19 lockdown, she pooled just £100 with her brother to buy raw ingredients and launched her first batch of products on social media. What started as a kitchen-based side hustle quickly gained traction making one MILLION pounds in just her first year.

But her path wasn’t without setbacks. A legal trademark dispute forced Ama to shut down operations under the original name, Planted, and rebrand entirely as Plantmade. The rebrand meant lost revenue and starting over, but Ama turned the challenge into an opportunity.

In this conversation, Ama opens up about the realities of rapid growth, the complexities of working with family, and the resilience it takes to rebuild when things don’t go as planned. She shares how she made her first million pounds in just twelve months, and how she has continued to scale her business.

If you’re passionate about entrepreneurship, startups, e-commerce, beauty and wellness, or simply love hearing the behind-the-scenes reality of building a business from scratch, this episode will inspire you to think bigger and push through obstacles with confidence.
