The Regular Point — A reminder to honor the small, everyday victories that keep us going
Episode 7 of The Still Point invites listeners to pause and appreciate the regular aspects of life that often go unnoticed. Drawing from Stoic and Sufi teachings, we explore how daily routines and simple acts can offer profound insights and fulfillment. Through poetic contemplation, we celebrate the ordinary as a source of extraordinary meaning.
Hello deep thinkers. You're in the right place.
We often chase the extraordinary, the milestones and the breakthroughs, the moments that dazzle. It's like we're looking for a non-stop highlight reel.
But what about those quiet victories?
Those everyday things, the mornings we rise without dread, the dishes that we washed, and those bills that got paid on time. Those are the unsung verses of our daily lives, the
unselaborated
victories.
The stillings taught us to
find contentment, not in grand achievements, but in the mastery of the everyday.
Epictetus reminds us,
practice yourself for heaven's sake in the little things,
and then proceed to be greater.
It's in these little things that we build resilience, character and peace.
Sufie Wisdom echoes that sentiment.
Roomy writes,
"Be like the tree and let the dead a shop.
Let it go of the need for constant novelty."
We find beauty in doing that. In the repetition of the routine, the regular.
So today we're going to honor
those regular things,
the maid bed,
and that morning walk that we take
at shared meal.
Those moments,
the ordinary,
are the threads that weave a meaningful life.
This poem is a tribute to the quiet constants that often go unnoticed
to the regular things.
Do we ever celebrate the regular things, the times we wake up and shake off yesterday.
Today, did we commemorate the making of our bed? Or, do we celebrate on time bills we pay, the book we read, words unsaid and not perfectly
toasted bread? Do we ever celebrate the regular things? Could we
today,
in the ordinary, we
can find the extraordinary,
celebrate the regular things
and you discover a rich life with meaning,
this has been the still point. Until next time, stay present, stay grounded,
and cherish
each moment
of the every day
