The Still Point
The Night Point — A spoken word on escapism, electric grief, and sleepless cities
Episode 8 of The Still spotlights the transformative power of night. Drawing from Stoic and Sufi philosophies, we explore how darkness can be a source of introspection and healing. Through poetic reflection, we embrace the night as a space for self-discovery and peace.
Hello deep thinkers, you're in the right place.
Nightfall arrives. One of the very few things in life that we have the luxury of being able to successfully predict.
But a lot of times we will look at it as the end of the day.
But how about an invite to look at it as a beginning? You see in the of the darkness we confront the parts of ourselves that we often avoid in the daylight.
And
if you live in the sea, you see those lights flicker, mirroring the thoughts that dance in all of our minds.
The Stoics taught us to find tranquility within. And Seneca once said, "Night brings our troubles to the surface. But also offers the silence to soothe them,
by allowing ourselves to be still. In that stillness we can observe our thoughts." Without judgment,
the Sufie Mystic Rumi
wrote, "Don't
get lost in your pain. Know that one day your pain will become your cure."
The night invites us to sit with our sorrows and to understand them and find healing in their depths. So tonight we embrace the darkness. Not with fear, but with curiosity. We listen to the whispers of our inner world, finding clarity in the shadows,
and this poem
is all about
finding clarity in those shadows,
I described it
as a love letter to the night itself.
So here goes.
Fear goes another day. Another sunrise unseen. Slide into the next day, the skies look uneven and night opens its arms time to play.
Electric lights grinds a fake dawn. What does the bottom my bottle say? Words blur as I watch sorrow drown and again. What does the bottom of my bottle say?
Another sunrise unseen. Night opens its legs in a way. The skies feel uneven.
And a night.
In the embrace of night we find parts of ourselves that we've long forgotten.
This has been still point, until next time stay introspective. Stay open and find peace
