The Still Point
The Progress Point — A poetic reminder that healing and growth are messy, but worthy
Episode 11 of The Still Point jumps into the shallow end of the often chaotic journey of personal growth. Drawing from Stoic and Sufi wisdom, we explore how embracing the messiness of development leads to meaningful transformation. Through poetic contemplation, we acknowledge that progress isn’t always pretty, but it’s always worth it.
Hello deep thinkers, you're in the right place.
Growth isn't always graceful. Sometimes it's messy, loud and uncomfortable, like a building under renovation. We're constantly under construction, scaffolding up, signs, warning, watch your step. Because you know the progress of it all, isn't always pretty, but you know it's still progress. And that's something, because sometimes we find ourselves trying to make perfect be the enemy of good.
Seneca once said, "It's not because things are difficult, that we do not dare. It's because we do not dare, that things are difficult.
Keeping this quote in mind, we've got to embrace the challenge
of growth, because the challenge of growth requires courage. It's endearing that we find our strength.
Rumi reminds us,
"Yesterday, I was clever, so I wanted to change the world.
Today, I'm wise, so I am changing myself.
You see personal development
and transformation starts from within. It's an internal process that reflects outward. So if you're feeling under construction with caution signs and all, know that it's a sign of growth, that it's a sign of renovation. You're building something new, and you're constructing something better.
This poem captures that feeling
of being a living, breathing work in progress.
It's called for development.
We are a constant work in progress. To our buildings, we have scaffolds breaking down. We build simultaneously, stressed, infested yet clean, wearing a yellow caution sign, watch your step.
Progress gets messy." I was told,
"Embrace the mess.
It's a sign that you're evolving. This has been the still point. Until next time, stay patient, stay persistent, and know that progress comes."
