What it is. Welcome back to the channel. I am your host, Bethany Skiller, and this is Teach Skills You Learn. I am about to put on new hinges for my garage door. It's uh you know, on the sides of the garage door, most uh garage doors have that gap. When you go out to the front of your garage door, you're gonna see like this looks like a rubber seal. It's either gonna be brown or it's gonna be um white. Those tend to be the two most common colors used. And what you do is it's like a rubber flap that's about this wide, and then it's attached to like some off-water, maybe composite wood or whatever it is, and then you screw or nail that into the fish uh or the um the outside part of the garage door so that it makes this tight seal up against the garage. But most of the time, garage doors have this probably it's got all this give. And I'll show you when I when I uh get over to the garage door. But I actually want to open up the new hinges that just came in, so I'm excited you're gonna open it up with me. So here we go. Alright, here it is. The box is here, it came in. Alright, it says there should be six in here. I don't know, we'll see. It says four on the box, but I don't know if that's because it says parcel. I don't know. Oh fun. Here we go. We got all of this stuff. That's fun. Advertisements, probably directions. Okay. It's called the green hinge. The green hinge um for garage doors and uh made in the United States, made in the US. It's a US patent, I should say. Um you can see down here number one. Number one. Oh good. And we have number two. Number two. Number three number three. So that's good. We got six. That's what I ordered. Perfect. Awesome. So here they are. Looks great. Now we're gonna go to the garage door. The tools that you may need for this assembly is um I got myself a drill. I've got myself a 3-8 bench, it's a chuck for, or it's a 3-8 attachment to the drill. Um, let's see if I can. I also have my socket wrench. Um, I'm gonna see if I can get this weighted down. There we go. This is a attachment. Oh, to go to the drill. Right? Here we go. This is an extender that's gonna go to a seven sixteenths. It's seven sixteenths made in the US, so it's gonna give us in um in inches or in uh in fractions. It's gonna give it in um regular. You either get it in metric or um S E A? S S S A E S A whatever. So we got we got the regular, the normal. Alright, we're at hinge one. So let's do this. They want you to check the instructions on the video that they sent to you. I believe it's green hinge system.com. And they say they want you to take, they also give you a piece of paper, you can line it up. They shows here that there's a number one. Okay, so what they want you to do is want you to line up to see if your uh screws here line up with the screw mounts here. They do so. Um, I mean, this really is a very simple system. So, what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna take this off. Now, they want you to take the existing screws, the existing hardware, and then they want you to take this bearing or this wheel off and put it um into the system here. And then what I'm gonna do is I'm going to finger tight, finger screw these in here. Okay. Why the fuck that is lined up behind there? Don't know. Crazy. Um I mean my god, why would you? So let's do this.

So now I've got this handy dandy little thing here. What do we need? Seven sixteenths? Here it is. Righty tidy, lefty Lucy, right? Fuck me. That's not gonna work. All right, give me a second, I'll be back. Love it when a plan goes together. That's great. Oh Jesus. So um, let's see if I have it's not in there. Great. I seem to have tools strung out everywhere. I don't think let's see if this works. Seven sixteenths. So let's do this. All right, till we get this fucker started. Let's do that. Oh shit. I'm not gonna tighten this down, right? I'm just gonna get this on here so I can line the rest of the screws up like this. Right. Okay, let's do this. Why don't you use the drill? That's a great idea, folks. Why don't I? Did I already explain that this is hinge one? Whoops. I hope I did. Okay. So the purpose is this spring here is supposed to push this bearing back up against this rail. Oh fuck. Can you not see? God Christ. All right, so this spring is supposed to push this wheel bearing back along this part of the thing so that like even now, like, I I don't know if you can see before, but there's a lot of play. Like, if you push it a garage door, there's a lot of play, but this is actually go figure. Um, this is actually pushing up against this this bearing, and it's causing pressure up against it. What a what a cool fucking invention. And too bad I'm not a smart lady to have thought of this myself, but I love it when something is made. I don't know if you can see that that all that give. So something's made to make our make our lives better. Um this uh for the sole purpose here's here's the one. I don't know if you can see it. Here's the one. Can you see that? There it is, one. So this is to make um a house more energy uh efficient, which is oh shit, oh shit, uh which is um um ideal. Like uh right now we're in the thralls of winter weather. Um and boy, is she uh has she been a cold one, you know? So we're trying to make life a little bit better in terms uh of energy efficiency, right? Where we're really trying to make um which just tends to be a garage door, it's just like a like one of those problem areas that just so much air leaks out because it just there's never been a system in place that has addressed that concern or that issue. So um, you know, to whomever invented this thing, okay? Huh. You deserve some accolades to uh why am I an asshole here I think my concern is that I'm gonna over-tighten this, which I don't I don't really don't want to do. And then I'm like you know, this is just showing me that I'm gonna need another tool. Um because this is so fat. I don't know if you can see that I got so close to you. I'm gonna like super zoom on this camera, but um ratchet, so the ratchet um whoever invented that, my god. Kudos to you for uh really inventing something that's okay. So uh she's already stiffened. That's so great. How cool is that, right? How cool is that? Alright, let's let's do this. And you're like, girl, you sound like you need to lose weight. And uh you would probably be fucking right. I am a fat fat fuck. But that's okay. That's okay. You know why? I'm I'm I'm happy. Yeah, I mean I'm happy, so shit, why not be fat? Okay, so you know, come after me in these streets. I don't give a shit. Alright, so let's do this. They said it does say do one hinge at a time. It does clearly state that. So I could imagine there was an asshole out there at one point and I tried to do all of them at once, which probably their garage door probably collapsed on them. Um instantaneously. I could I could, you know, if I was a guessing, if I was a guess-guessing person, someone has done it, hence the reason why they had to put that disclaimer out there. For idiots that uh I don't know, just for idiots out there. And the world's got plenty of them. And uh and it's okay if you're an idiot, you know? Uh we don't I try not to hold uh ignorance and stupidity and all that shit against somebody. Because you know what? The other day, sometimes I just don't know any better. And if you haven't taught skills, if you haven't been taught, um, or if you haven't self-taught, I mean I'm I'm a self-taught person. I'm uh, you know, I I was um raised a very sheltered or very uh um uh uh how do you say it? Uh I I mean shelter is probably the best way to say it. Um uh I was raised to, you know, uh simple minded uh by simple-minded people, and that's okay, you know. Um they they raised me with the best tools that they were given. Um and there's no fault in that, honestly. Um you you you really are you you really do try to do the best that you you know how. And um in that it sometimes can be this fun, because this one might be able to get this in here. Uh I was adopted and I was uh raised by two very sweet um white people and you know they they uh they did the best that they knew how and with the tools that they were given. And there's um I have nothing but love and respect for what they did um for me. So um okay, this is works a little bit better. Y'all are probably cringing right now as to watch me s you know possibly lose my fucking digits here. But do you remember? I did it for the vine! Did I eat myself? I'm sorry. So we're gonna look at this again. We're gonna look at this, because again, they always say the number has to be at the bottom. Okay, number at the bottom, number at the bottom. Alright, so you can see that I am doing what I'm told, what I'm instructed to do. So let's do this. Um, raised by really good people, um, they really gave me great tools to succeed in uh in life. They gave me um great tools to to be a really um level-minded human being, which you know, um sometimes the thing that you try to teach the most or instill the most ends up giving uh up giving that individual uh a tool that you never thought well was not the intended purpose so like i just don't um i don't fault them i mean there's no there's no there's no fault in doing what you think is best uh when you raise your kids i mean i don't judge i don't judge parents out there who are just trying to do the best with the information that they have or that they were given i mean we all have we all have our you know our our triggers we all have our um shit jesus shit all right number on the bottom can you see that number is on the bottom number on the bottom all right you're like that's enough that's enough so teach skills you learn this is a skill do you have I mean do I think you need to learn this I mean teach his own right um I I just want to show you that it is possible that this is something that you can do whether like you don't have to hire this out like you can save yourself money and you can do this yourself I mean this is so flipping easy and uh oh that's a butte that's a butte it's a butte now what they say right so now what they say let's do this now what they say is that you should you should Jesus Christ you should what I'm gonna do is um my garage is so fucking crazy right now. So you see this red tab here? Oh god oh god you see this red tab here all right this is what's gonna go all right and what they say that you should roll this thing up and down a couple of times right to make sure it works right to free ball it right that's what we did we find we're working it in right I want to go one step further WD forty and it says that it is what the hell is it uh white lithium grease okay long lasting let's put you down over here I told you I'm a fat fuck all right put you down the fuck oh for fuck's sake okay all right and what I'm gonna actually do I'm gonna I'm gonna hold you I'm gonna actually do is I'm gonna hold you okay shake all right so now all right so now this see this that's what we're gonna do right there on the hinge on the hinge on the on the uh spring on the spring right on the spring it's so funny my mom just talks to me she must have heard her her ears must have been burning she must have heard me talking about her um but anyways that's it it's great watch this we're going to now fuck you can see my messy garage crazy so sorry let's put you down there because nobody wants to see that all right nobody nobody wants to see that I don't think anybody wants to see that okay all right let's see let's watch this bitch run there we go cool beans so tomorrow what I'll do is I'm going to uh check by the light because as you see it's dark as shit outside um and what we're gonna do is we're gonna check to see how much light comes through um but as I can already see this is fantastic um the pressure on the back side of these amazing right the gap is closed so good it's been about two days uh since I've installed the green hinge on my garage door and um from what I can tell it it's a game changer it really is um the next part of this project is going to be that weather stripping that is on the outside or the exterior of the garage door so you want that weather stripping it's like a rubber flap that's connected to a piece of wood or composite wood and you nail in to the face of or the fascia of the um garage door on the exterior part of the garage door and what that does is um if you make sure that that rubber seal hits the garage door that is where you can close those gaps so on the inside of the garage door when the garage door is shut in the part that I've showed you um here where you see um that gap has closed during the day um because I installed these at night during the day you want to look at those sides and see where the light comes in and that's how you know where to take that um gasket or that that seal uh on the external part of the garage door and you want to kind of pull it away from the face or face of uh of of the garage and then you want to push um you want to push that rubber back to or towards the garage to seal that up and then on the bottom of the garage door there is a seal that you can you can get at your local box door and um there it's basically a T track and you just slide those two T tracks at the bottom of your garage door just slide that weather stripping um into those T tracks. So you might need a you might need somebody to help you you can try it on your own it's if you do it on your own it might be a little bit harder but um somebody needs to feed that in someone can pull it um through so but nonetheless that that seal at the bottom that's going to also help taking care of that part of the project here um soon um right now it's just extremely cold outside so I just don't want to open the garage door have it open keep opening and shutting because again you just you're just letting the heat out so um it may be tackled in a little bit warmer weather it really is um a game changer like just the the the principle behind how the system is created and what it does and um it's absolutely a game changer so um if you haven't looked into this I would look into it if you haven't seen anything about this which again I just came upon this video um on Instagram and I'm like oh my gosh makes sense and um yeah I'm extremely happy and like I said for the price it's gonna pay for itself so that is everything um I want to thank you for joining me um I hope that what I was able to show you um is that uh you can do this this is something that um it's it was so easy um very user friendly um the website um greenhingesystem dot com you get some reading material and um see if your garage door is compatible with the system and I would I would highly encourage uh I would highly encourage you to invest in this because like I said you're gonna get your monies back um thanks again for uh joining me um do something kind to somebody a stranger family member friend uh and remember you're not alone in this world and uh um thanks again and we'll see you next time
